The Windows package seems broken...
@josef21296 @wiseclock. Thanks for the feedback, I will try and fix it in the morning and let you know.
@josef21296 @wiseclock Nevermind, I fixed it now. It should now include the resources. Thanks for the heads up. This will teach me to test my builds.
Sometimes when you start a new game some parts of the game are invisible, like you can only see the player or you can't see any clouds.
Erm... Could you learn more about the unity engine before trying a game jam? Usually, you learn and then participate in the jam, not the other way around.
@akai_Ookami Yeah, I am not sure why but I started notice that near the end of the jam.
@notpresident35 Wow, a little harsh don't you think? Was there anything in particular that you could elaborate on that was not so good so that, like you said, I could learn more?
@B34k3rm33p Sorry, it was rather harsh. I think sorting layers would be one thing, along with animations and physics. A better UI would be good too. As far as art, the asset store would have been your friend, since you are competing in the jam. Or, you could look up images. I drew and animated a stick-man for a platformer game in a very short amount of time. Just draw each limb separately. A paid course really helps learn anything, unity especially. This: https://www.udemy.com/unitycourse/learn/v4/overview worked great for me (Goes on sale frequently, got it for $10), but there are a number of sites for that type of things. Anyway, keep it up, but try to pick up some things and spend a LOT of time doing so. That's how I learned. I'm rather new to unity, having only used it for the past 6 months or so.
@notpresident35 Thank you for the feedback, I will always seek to learn more. I did hope to do better on the art but I was rushed for time since I was unable to give the full amount of time to the jam. I did have a question, what do you mean about the layers?
@b34k3rm33p This: https://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/topics/2d-game-creation/sorting-layers. It might fix the problem with everything only appearing half the time. I don't have the source, so i'm not sure, but that is likely the cause.
@notpresident35 Thanks, I will give it a look and see if anything improves.
This game isn't actually half bad! While it may lack in the audio and visual departments, it does offer a unique take on the theme which I found to be interesting. On the technical side, there were a few bugs that left the game hard to enjoy. From what I can deduce, I would say that all of these problems are due to the sorting layer not being setup properly. This is because the balloons, weights, and one time even the player was behind the background making it difficult to tell what was happening. But that doesn't mean that this game is bad. I'm actually looking forward to what you can do given more time and experience with the Unity Engine!
I love the take on the theme. The graphics were sub-par, but the gameplay is good for what seems to be your first Ludum Dare game. Congratulations on completing something! It was fun to try and balance out my weight with the balloons, (whenever they showed up.) The game could have used some audio, which would make the game much better. There were some minor glitches too, but that is expected. I really hope you can improve and make many more jam games along the line!
Hallo! That's a pretty good idea! As people are saying, you have to be a bit lucky to see all the layers. Keep practicing, good luck!
Thanks @Numnumdude and @huitre. I am still trying to figure out the layer thing and why they are not showing up have the time and it is my goal to get better and better.
there are a lot of bugs here. I would try to google or go to youtube to fix these types of problems. I would say probably you have problems with sorting layer. The gameplay is pretty innovative though and could be further developed into a real fun game. It does fit the theme.
This is a really interesting concept. Better visuals and audio would be good to enhance the theme of the game. There were also some problems where the player would jump incredibly high for no real reason. This is a really smart concept though, good work! :)
It's a good concept. The use of the theme was great, and the biggest suggestion I could give is that a little animation would go a long way here.
Animation and progression. I really like the whole balancing act. But I need additional places to explore and grow.
There are people have that have years of game development experience, but don't have the slightest clue how to make something fun and enjoyable. This was fun and enjoyable. Sure, it's buggy, but the light-heartedness is something I'll take any day over a perfectly polished game that bores me.
Hey ! I don't know if the issue is coming from the windows build but the game isn't working properly... Sometimes I see hte character and no balloons. And other times it's the reverse. Very difficult, and didn't seem really balanced :-/ also, no sound ? Haha I'm sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, the concept is very cool ! Keep up the work :-)
@josscomposer Yea, people are saying I have a layering issue but I am yet to find it. I only had 36 hours working time on the project so I did not get to animations or music (and for that matter decent art). But thank you so much for playing.
@notpresident35 Figured out the issue, it was the layer. The silly background object was moving in front of the other layers and rendering over the others so that you could not see the floor.
Quite a cool concept. I had to experiment several times with the weights and balloons. I feel it is missing some game mechanics, maybe survival or go up or not sure.. But there def is something here.
In one game I got stuck in the middle (on the left side) of a cloud.
Liked the idea, but you could have added another goal to the game maybe. Congrats!
It's a little funny game. I like it. It's simple and fun. Tune the graphics next time and it's going to be really amazing!!!
This game is pretty simple, but the idea matches the theme and it was pretty fun to play. I liked bouncing around with a lot of balloons. :D In general, a little more polish on menus, graphics and sound would be beneficial. Great work though and good luck on your future projects!
A lot of these comments are harsh. I am sorry about that. It's never to early to start a game jam, that's you do them, to learn. I am very sorry about that comment.
Besides the graphics and a few other things (user interface, a little bit of the physics), you did a really good job. I really enjoyed playing this game because I loved how it was quick and simple to the point (you don't need to understand anything). It was really fun and enjoyable.
I would suggest like most people, improving the graphics, but also, I would suggest tuning up the user interface. I am talking about the main menu and the game over screens. These screens have very small text inside the buttons and it isn't adaptive. This means that on my iMac, the buttons are huge but the text is tiny.

After fixing that and the graphics, you could improve some of the physics (which I don't see a huge problem with, but those things could always be improved). I made [an app](https://github.com/xeleration/fidget) that uses an algorithm for momentum and it could always be improved, just like other physics in games, they're never perfect.
Besides that, there could be more improvements you think of and then you could publish your post-LD release. Overall, I really enjoyed it and it's a great game!
@B34k3rM33p Called it! Lol. Good thing that it's fixed though!
The approach to the theme you took was very interesting! I like it, just wish the game had an in-game restart or how-to-play because I picked up 5 weights before realizing what i was doing XD
I was a bit confused when I first played without reading the instructions. My first design test for any simple game is if I can figure out what the game is and how its played without reading rules. Avoid rules that are unclear and try to make the effect of in-game actions as obvious as possible. The physics was a bit slow and floaty. It would have been nice if there felt like there was more weight in my character's movement when I have a lot of weight. Understandably this is hard to do without much animation so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. That said, I would be interested to see where it goes (this game has a lot of potential to expand).
Neat idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdHqgfn9vOI
