LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Babies! Babies! Babies! by Local Minimum 2017-12-09T21:40:34Z

This game is going to give me nightmares... And I guess that is a good thing. Atmosphere is definitely a strong suit of this game, and I liked the interpretation of the theme! I would like a bit more content but overall it is a cool idea for a game.

No Name Ninja Game by mooncalf 2017-12-06T01:38:09Z

This game is fun! It's simple but very satisfying when you do manage to play well. Sometimes the pacing can be a little weird, very slow at the start then all of a sudden chaotic. But it illustrates the exponentially growing difficulty of more and more enemies in a way that matches the theme!

Overkill Redux by Iak 2017-12-16T14:28:04Z

This is a fun simple game! I think it would really add to the game to add more responsive effects when you take damage, because I constantly had to check my health bar, unsure if I had been hit. I like the shooting mechanic, it's interesting and unique. :) Nicely done!

Eatly by zenwraight 2017-12-16T14:22:08Z

It would be nice to make the game have an auto-restart option, but I know that isn't as easy sometimes in java. We also made our game in java and I was wondering if you used any libraries or anything, because it was a bit of a nightmare when we were exporting the game and yours seems to run smoothly! I liked the simplicity of the game, although I did run into a glitch one time where my screen stopped auto-scrolling before I got to the end. Overall, I enjoyed learning the controls to be fast enough to beat the level. Great job!

Tactical Marshmallows by applejam 2017-12-16T14:43:09Z

The animations, sound and graphics take this game to the next level in terms of polish! Myself, I'm not the hugest fan of tower defense games, but I could definitely see this becoming a real, enjoyable game! Looking forward to seeing your future entries!

Pixel Cartel by automatonvx 2017-12-08T21:53:59Z

I really like the consistent art style and music, it really brings the game together and livens up the setting. As other people are saying the theme would be more apparent if more enemies spawned when you have money, not just more enemies noticing you. Also, it would be relatively easy to limit the camera, so you can't see over the edges of the map (which is a little immersion breaking). Overall the game was well made though and movement is fluid and fun. I enjoyed it. :)

Octopode embrace by ThiefViolinist 2017-12-09T21:46:46Z

My game also crashed at one point. I really liked the graphics and art style though. I do have a soft spot for sea faring games. :) Overall the combat is really difficult and at a certain point of money, I was swarmed by impossible amounts of enemies for my minimal cannon firing ability. The controls were also a tad bit cumbersome. But I really liked the theme, and the concept is cool!

Six by CodeChomper 2017-12-08T22:08:25Z

This game feels polished and well put together. Overall, I enjoyed playing it. I like the robot model quite a bit (so cute). I would like greater ability to edit the instructions while making them (like a delete option). I'm not the best at rights and lefts so this game was not too easy for me... :P But I really like this type of logical, step-by-step thinking (I am a programmer after all) and I the elements of the puzzles were well varied and built upon themselves nicely. Great work!

Globstopper by James Dunlap 2017-12-06T02:14:41Z

I wish the controls were a little tighter but maybe that's personal preference. You achieved a great amount of polish for the time constraint! Different worlds and bosses! Cool!

Speed Skier by JoshyOshKenoshi 2017-12-18T22:14:57Z

I liked the game! It feels polished, the little ski track effect is adorable! I agree with the others who are saying that your ability to control your turns isn't the best, and it would be cool if your turns slowed you down a little, like real skiing. Also, it would be nice if restarting the game after dying was quicker. Overall, I liked the atmosphere and it was a fun simple game.

Home Raider by Rongo Matane 2017-12-16T14:39:07Z

This game was really fun to play! Successfully stealing an expensive item was really fun! The main mechanic is well illustrated to the player, and I found myself strategically choosing which items to go for first and which to quickly grab on my way out. I got into it and it was rewarding! I'm thinking about getting into LibGDX for my next ludum dare project, and this has shown me you can do awesome things with it!

Diet Time by GerardB 2017-12-05T13:19:18Z

This game looks very polished! I love the art style and overall aesthetic.

Dorm Doom by Cataractar 2017-12-16T14:48:19Z

The game probably could use a little balancing because I won on the first attempt by just immediately and constantly working on my project. The models are very cute and the audio was minimalistic but added to the experience. Fun concept!

Fireball Dungeon by Andrew White 2017-12-16T21:02:56Z

Cute game! I liked bouncing my shots off walls and that was a fun mechanic. The game felt a little claustrophobic and hard to get too much control. Maybe it's just me but I think it would benefit from a bigger play area/smaller fireballs and character. Otherwise the fast feel was fun and the mechanics illustrated the theme well! I enjoyed playing!

Balloon Baffoon by B34k3rM33p 2017-12-09T03:21:57Z

This game is pretty simple, but the idea matches the theme and it was pretty fun to play. I liked bouncing around with a lot of balloons. :D In general, a little more polish on menus, graphics and sound would be beneficial. Great work though and good luck on your future projects!

Aimmo by WoooWooo 2017-12-18T22:20:58Z

Short but enjoyable game! I agree that enemies would make this game fun! The concept was easy to understand and grasp. I could see the possibility of added depth, in carefully scoping out levels to see if you could safely waste bullets and refill them later or not!

"Savior" by AnnaAD 2017-12-06T00:38:11Z

@davidvallee42 Yet another struggle of writing and exporting java programs... Though maybe you can get around Windows Defender Smartscreen(?): https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/windows-10/windows-defender-smartscreen-prevented-an-unrecognized-app-error/

Apocalypse2D by saviourgaming 2017-12-09T21:53:08Z

It was fun to play! Very satisfying to pull off a jump and mid-air fire off a finishing shot to kill an enemy! Overall, a tiny bit of variation in gameplay would be an improvement. But the simplicity works for a quick to play ludum dare game. Nice work. I had a good time!

Leaning Tower by Patrick D 2017-12-08T22:32:10Z

Cute game! It is one of those games that is simple and good because of it. I found the game satisfying to play and the calm ambience makes it pleasant too! I could see adding a few features to this game for some added depth and replayability and it being a decent mobile game! Nice work.

MONTIS MALI by Willy_Bean 2017-12-08T22:27:21Z

I really like the ambiance of the game, the graphics and sound come together well! I have always liked Scratch since it was the first language I ever learned :). As other people are saying, at times the gameplay is a little frustrating, it's hard to tell when to properly block, and I just tend to hold down the spacebar and randomly releasing it, hoping not to get randomly killed. Also it is not super clear how the speed of movement is effected by items. Even some sort of stat display would help. Good luck on your future game-making endeavors!

Armed Descent by Acr515 2017-12-09T20:58:35Z

I'm fairly bad at this kind of game, so it was definitely a challenge. The main mechanic of gaining ammo but losing health, is fun in terms of gameplay, but to me somehow doesn't make intuitive sense. But on all other accounts the controls and level design were fun and I really enjoyed it! Great work and I look forward to seeing your future projects!

Oh no! Zombies! by Benjamin San Souci 2017-12-06T01:54:26Z

Like other people are commenting I was surprised at how well the theme was implemented. I did in fact end up dying because of all those weapons...To many...So many... It was quite fun and I liked how it felt to play the game. I ran into a few weird quirks where a gun got stuck firing (or maybe it was intentional) but nonetheless it was good!
