The game was too difficult to play, but the music was really great.
Interesting idea, only issue I have is that the monster has no attack telegraphing so I don't know when to start blocking. Also since the timing on the enemy attacks seem random, I can't avoid getting hurt because sometimes It attacks, then immediately attacks again without waiting, assuming I could attack after the enemy attacks I release block and he instantly hits me. Giving a delay after an attack to give an attack window, and a small animation to telegraph before an attack would go a long way to making this better. Take a look at something like Dark Souls, or even Megaman every enemy has a wind up animation or a predictable attack pattern of some degree that tells you "Hey if you don't dodge, I will hit you" giving the player the information needed to decide to dodge or block that way when they get hit, it's on the player for not paying attention to the wind up animation, and not on RNG.
I can't seem to play. Only sometimes it goes in the game and I can block, but as soon as I lift the space bar I die.
This is a cool concept, which can be expanded, but doesn't seem to work for me. Using chrome on linux. On firefox it doesn't even load. Maybe flash is the problem.
Edit: on windows it works fine, I managed to slay the shadows! Glory! (for a while :) )
There are some good ideas here... I like the mood of you're game and the aesthetics ^^ GG ! (our game doesn't appear on my profile, so here you go : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/the-darkest-light )
I really like the ambiance of the game, the graphics and sound come together well! I have always liked Scratch since it was the first language I ever learned :). As other people are saying, at times the gameplay is a little frustrating, it's hard to tell when to properly block, and I just tend to hold down the spacebar and randomly releasing it, hoping not to get randomly killed. Also it is not super clear how the speed of movement is effected by items. Even some sort of stat display would help. Good luck on your future game-making endeavors!
I really liked the mood, the audio really did help in creating it. However I did get to one point where I just kept blocking everything and they fell like I had hit them. Previously it felt a little difficult juggling between blocking and attacking, however after getting tired and trying to keep blocking, it was really easy/simple. Dunno if this is a bug or not. Overall it is a nice concept that I feel that definitely has space to be expanded. With maybe some feedback about the attacks, like previous commenters said. Good job, congratulations ;)
Sorry, can't let a quality review, don't have enough time, just want to help to get out of danger zone. Overall i think game is good, keep going. Happy Holidays.
Good atmospheric music and visuals, but I don't quite understand what I am supposed to do. Once the bar goes down all I can do is block, basically I just press block constantly, that's it.
hmmm. i couldnt play it. just white screen
