cool concept! had a lot of fun until the game crashed around wave 4

benjamin-san-souci 2017-12-05 05:20

@6smith Oh noooo! We've had this random crash for a while, we have a hard time fixing it :/

I just submitted a fix! You should try it again, things get interesting beyond wave 4 :p

Your game Oh No Zombies is a really cool idea and really puts the theme of "The more you have, the worse it is", into a really cool game. I enjoyed the game a lot and the idea of having to strategically change your weapons and keep watch of your ammo is a cool idea.

Pros: - The large choice of weapons - The achievement aspect of the game to unlock all the guns - The overall game

Cons: - The achievements tended to be too often and kept on interfering with the game - The graphics could be improved

Overall this was a really nice game and you should be proud of what you achieved. :)

An interesting premise. I enjoyed that the sheer amount of guns, hotkeys, and achievements made it nearly unplayable. Great satire. It took me a while to figure out the up arrow was asking for me to hold the shift key. The art could have used a little more movement. A second frame can add a whole lot of character to a sprite. The variety of enemies and weapons was great. Congratulations on finishing an LD!

Love zombie games. Too many achievments got in the way, but it was also fun to juggle with the keys to use new weapons. I couldn't play the game in Chrome so I had to switch to Firefox. Just letting you know. Liked the graphics but would've appreciated being able to use the mouse. Congrats on the game!

schmavery 2017-12-05 18:35

@Gris I'm surprised you couldn't play it in Chrome, that was our main testing browser for web. If someone wants to let us know what this problem looks like in more detail we'd love to be able to resolve it. :D

I think if we had to go back, we'd pick a less obtrusive animation for the achievement so that it interfered with gameplay less. Unfortunately we ran out of time to polish up the animations more but I think our artist @QcMaude did a great job with what we were asking for haha! Thanks!

Wow, at first I thought this was going to be another top down zombie shoot em up but I was pleasantly surprised at your take on theme, graphics were ok, sound meh, mood was good, but more importantly it was fun. I did not like how every achievement paused the game and put it right in your face. other than that good

annaad 2017-12-06 01:54

Like other people are commenting I was surprised at how well the theme was implemented. I did in fact end up dying because of all those weapons...To many...So many... It was quite fun and I liked how it felt to play the game. I ran into a few weird quirks where a gun got stuck firing (or maybe it was intentional) but nonetheless it was good!

victorsimoes 2017-12-06 02:01

I just think that it would be more fun if ammo returns automatic when you stop shooting with it! But Nice Work Guys! if you want to play my game here's the link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/fishing-day

this was so fun and hectic! I loved it! I only wish if the achievements did not stop the game constantly.

rob-white 2017-12-06 20:25

I really liked the addition of many different guns that gameplay-wise acted differently. I like the inclusion of multiple enemy types and the design of the characters. I would look into some more game feel aspects (some great youtube videos on it) that will help your bullets feel more impactful, which will make the game even more fun (you already have some by implementing some bullet spread and different fire rates for your guns). Good job!

megabrutal 2017-12-06 23:18

I... just... totally love it. :D

mooncalf 2017-12-07 01:15

Great take on the theme. I really liked it, I thought the pacing could be made a bit faster - more dmg from player and zombie. Controls worked well.

landosystems 2017-12-07 06:13

Took me about 7 weapons to pick up on the gag, cracked me up. The achievements could have been a bit quicker to pop up and go away, or be moved to a corner notification that doesn't pause gameplay. Regardless though, it's a solid game with a funny hook, a fairly satisfying set of weapons, and it compelled me to keep playing... made it to wave 11. Great work!

megalink 2017-12-08 02:12

Awesome game and concept. I loved the variety in weapon and enemy types. The sound effects from the zombies were especially great. Good job!

patrick 2017-12-08 02:33

It's been a long time since I played a game that frustrated me so much but still really enjoyed playing. I especially liked the twist and it took me several achievements to figure out what was going on.

You did a great job an I enjoyed playing.

west 2017-12-08 06:29

quite a fun game maybe instead of using buttons you can have it cicle through with the "q" and "e" button

wakka2 2017-12-08 12:27

This is so the best match for the theme I’ve seen :D At first I thought you left some debug option in, until I realised that I just never stopped getting achievements and weapons. Just amazing!

Oh and the game is very well balanced, too!

@west I think you didn't get the point of the game if you want convenience with cycling through weapons :D

100th-coin 2017-12-08 22:37

Well made, and lots of fun! Each gun having unique properties was enjoyable, and once i found out that switching guns was a way to unlock them, i mashed the number keys for a while, unlocking a few rare ones. Fantastic game!

lmb 2017-12-08 23:07

The best one I tried so far in terms of fun! As others have pointed out, achievements tended to get on the way. Also, I found it a bit hard to switch weapons (or, at least, to select the weapon I intended to -- hmm, the more you have... OK, I guess I can forgive this).

Thanks and kudos for making this one! Very nice!

wolfo 2017-12-08 23:44

Really nice and quite fun, wish there was an option to manage the volume though ;-;

Good job!

kamekai 2017-12-09 02:48

I thought I was going to get bored quickly but by wave 5 things were starting to get intense. Dealing with the inventory was more challenging than hitting my targets. Job well done.

cubeeo 2017-12-09 04:25

So, there's a bunch of comments here complaining about the achievements... but THAT'S THE POINT! I can't believe how off-base these comments are. To the game makers, ignore those comments, but you're probably doing that anyway. I'm guessing you achieved exactly what you set out to achieve, so well done.

I mean, the game description literally says: "Kill zombies, get achievements!" And this game effectively makes fun of what a lot of games have become. So, this is effective satire.

cubeeo 2017-12-09 04:51

P.S. Someone said something about chrome above. I did this in chrome:

OhNoZombies.png

Took me forever to realize shift 1 was a 1, and not an I or an L (or some other symbol).

justin-toyo 2017-12-09 05:11

I really liked the idea of constantly getting new weapons to experiment with, I just think it was a bit difficult to control using the arrows keys. Using the mouse would've sufficed. otherwise, this was a terrific game!

cameronjsamuels 2017-12-09 05:17

This is a unique game! I love all the different guns with their own unique sound effect, key stroke, and bullet pattern. I love this game. It's really fun to play, and it is really enjoyable.

You all did great making this! Keep up the great work!

invixel 2017-12-09 08:50

The game was fun but a little repetetive after a while, but hey, basically all Ludum Dare games are repetetive after more than 10 minutes. I enjoyed the diffrent kinds of guns, although some were vatly superiour. But balance is another thing that's really hard to fit into the time limits. Overall, the game was fun.

cubeeo 2017-12-17 16:18

The more I think about this game, the more I love this game. (I'm also pretty good at it.) By the way, I just returned here to bump up your theme score, but apparently, there's no more room. You win!
