shrapx 2017-12-05 17:50

I especially liked the pixel art kitteh, and the spirity ghost kitteh, the rest was nice too, looked okay. I only played it for about a minute though as i couldnt get past the water obstacle. Concept and Art - great!

At first I couldn't jump over the water pit and was about to quit until I realized that the Shift button made you sprint. That wasn't in the instructions, so you should probably put it here. Other than that it was pretty good. Attacking was a bit slow. I liked the ball cannon mechanic. Rated the audio a 3 since I don't have headphones with me and couldn't listen.

Hey don't be so hard on yourself, this is a pretty good base for a game! I actually liked the graphics, and you had some interesting ideas for enemy types. There wasn't a connection to the theme, but that's only one category in the competition. Anyways, it's good to identify the challenges you had and what kept you from achieving your goal. Next time, you can look over that list and try to make it a little bit shorter.

In my experience, the best way to get a game done in 48 hours is to pick a solid design as quickly as possible. I always spend the first few hours drawing detailed sketches of how I want the final product to look, and try to get it as complete as possible before I write a single line of code or open GIMP. Even if it feels like you're spending too much time coming up with an idea, you'll likely waste more time later by not having one. Once you have sketches/concept art/etc, spending the remaining hours actual building the game becomes a lot easier. I also create an "asset manifest", which is a concrete list of every sprite/sound effect/features I predict I'll need for the final game. With more experience, you'll gain a stronger sense of what you can/can't realistically complete within the time limit.

Interesting game. The premise definitely works and getting weaker with every life is a nice idea, even though it's technically the exact opposite of the theme ;D The controls were a little too floaty, but it was manageable. I feel like some of the dogs had weird hitboxes and I died from seemingly nothing a few times. But hey, it's your first Ludum Dare, good work nontheless :D

I like the character sprites, and the variety of enemy dogs. I think it could be improved by adding some kind of feedback when the cat or dogs take damage, such as particle effects or flashing red.

korpokrowa 2017-12-05 17:58

I don't know how to pass first gap across the water :P. Besides of that, the game nice ;) I really like graphics, but it's a pitty that there is no sounds and music.

iamtalin 2017-12-05 17:59

Cool style, and is a finished game. Sometimes it's unclear which things block movement and which you can jump on.

Also, GO CATS :)

Cute graphics, i like the cats and dogs. But i don't like the premise of cats and dogs fighting ;-) I think that dying to water is a little harsh because the platforming doesn't work too well. In the end: good job and it seems that you learned a lot. By the way I think a Ludum Dare game shouldn't be longer than 5 to 10 minutes because of the voting. The shorter the better to get other people playing it.

elemel 2017-12-05 18:00

This is actually pretty good. Really like the setting, and the graphics and animations are the most successful aspects of the game. I think it would have looked even better if you had used the same resolution on the background and the characters. The platforming is fine, but it would have been cool with multiple paths. Combat is hard, wasn't able to defeat enemies without taking a lot of damage. (Might need more practice.) Never made it past the bridge -- is it possible to jump that far? Some music and sound effects would have complemented the graphics.

towerhufham 2017-12-05 18:40

I would have liked to play more, but I couldn't figure out how to get over the first pit of water. I love the graphics! The sprites are fully animated and look lovely!

pizzatotino 2017-12-05 21:29

Pretty neat!

bastienre4 2017-12-05 21:36

Good little game. The cat animation is really good !

shinyogre 2017-12-05 21:40

Great art work. I like the dingy streets look.

ehe 2017-12-05 21:40

Really like the graphics (: The game was a bit hard for me, but I guess I'm just bad at platformers. You did a really great job on that, I enjoyed the game and will play it more (:

antoined73 2017-12-05 21:42

Very nice, too bas it had not music and sounds ! UI is very clean. I didn't tried to kill first cats, only to fight the boss. Boss not too hard, perfect. An hit effect could have been nice to know if we hit the ennemies or not. Good job and wish you luck

mattcane 2017-12-05 22:18

Good fun! enjoyed it alot! :D

roka-josh 2017-12-05 22:20

Very good for a first entry, the game was quite difficult in my personal opinion but it was still manageable. I would encourage you to keep working on it as you have a good base here, and you can really work it into something special. All the best, good luck and Merry Christmas!

nihilist 2017-12-05 22:23

Love the idea as a fellow cat lover, definitely needs some more polishing like making the platforms a little clearer and damage indication for some enemies. Otherwise, nice work for a compo!

kyle-pham 2017-12-05 22:39

I really love the graphics here. The animation of the cat is good. The theme is not really represented well here though (I also made a platformer game so I understand how difficult it is to integrate this weird theme to a platformer game). I could not hear any sounds. You should have opted out of humor and mood because they don't suit well here. I like the innovation where you can walk through the houses and then jump on top of them. This is a really fun game overall, too bad it's kind of short.

kakarotsan 2017-12-06 18:54

I liked the design of the dogs. The tennis balls were a nice touch.

It was really hard playing this with the keyboard. The controller worked, but the buttons were mapped to weird buttons. If this was fixed, I would have a much better time playing.

It would have been nice to toggle sprint too.

Was there music, because I couldn't hear anything? It might be better for your score if you opt out of sound.

james-studd 2017-12-06 18:56

I really like the art, the perspective of the world looks really cool too, I think you did well! Obviously lacks sounds/music, but don't be so hard on yourself - it's your first LD and people definitely seem to be enjoying the game :D so good job!

jfraser314 2017-12-06 18:59

Your artwork is great, I love the animations and the backgrounds are pretty cool. Controls can lag a little making things frustrating and a couple times I was walking in the air. Also, in windowed mode, for some reason I jump half (maybe less) as high. In air.png

billeclipse 2017-12-06 19:13

Love the art style :D

szekeres-szabolcs 2017-12-06 19:19

I really really like the drawings of the cats and the dogs, those are clean man. I wasn't able to make the first jump at the bridge idk what i did wrong sorry.

nivbeth 2017-12-06 21:31

Omg the gif got me <3 The art is so damn cute! Love your work :3

saphires 2017-12-09 23:17

There's no way I can't like a game with a kitty in it ;) You did really well, I especially like the graphics, well done :)

vasco-rodrigues 2017-12-10 01:55

Loved the art style. All the sprites are very good, but the one I liked the most was the boss, it had a great design. The game needs some small fixes with collisions, but overall I had fun playing it. Congratulations!
