Your itch.io link is giving a 404 error!
My only critique is that when you're running around wildly it's really hard to tell what's coming at you, but traversing carefully doesn't feel as fun. That is my ONLY complaint, however. I love this so much!! Easily my favorite of all the games I've played tonight. Be proud of yourself!
It seems to glitch when you interact with the flower before anything else. On the second day it soft-locked, and on the third day I got an error message:
FATAL ERROR in action number 1 of Key Press Event for
Moving to next room after the last room. at gml_Object_txt_IMissYou_KeyPress_32
The game's visuals are great, though.
I keep accidentally placing the bucket after I pick it up. Then I accidentally placed it outside the apartment and watched in horror as it burnt down.
PIRATE MUSIC! PIRATE MUSIC!!! I honestly enjoy just sitting at the menu screen more than playing the game. That's not because the game is bad, but because the menu is just so much fun.
I like the game! I just want to give a word of warning: be careful creating games (or anything) that's about making fun of people. It's a slippery slope to go down! Some things are funny ("arrow keys move you like the art in this game moves you"), but some things aren't so much ("Thomas the Tank Engine is our gender identity"). With jokes like the latter, try taking a step back and think about how many people it makes uncomfortable / not want to play your game.
Please don't take this comment as an insult. I'm just giving a friendly suggestion to help keep ludum dare a fun place for everyone, hipsters included. :)
Really fun! I got up to 42 stable objects, and I gotta say it made me feel pretty proud.
The background is a bit disorientating, especially when moving up or down. I like how the charge beam feels fun to use.
I would have liked to play more, but I couldn't figure out how to get over the first pit of water. I love the graphics! The sprites are fully animated and look lovely!
I like the mechanics of losing control of your character because of the "powerups". Some of the jumps feel a bit too finicky, though.
Python is a pain to package! Your options are really just pyinstaller and py2exe. If you are still interested in roguelikes but don't want to deal with python, I recommend rot.js. It's got a lot of features and since it's javascript, it'll run on just about anything no problem.
About the game itself: I love it. The ascii graphics are super blocky and cute. The music is good, and the game incorporates mechanics I've never seen before. Be proud of your game!
I love the concept! I would appreciate a way to choose the number of troops you have before the round starts.
