Cool idea, but weird realization. Editor is very confusing and uneasy to use

towerhufham 2017-12-05 21:39

I love it! If you expand on this, I have no doubt that it would have success as a commercial title. (Assuming you don't get sacked by LEGO's team of lawyers, hehe)

magnega 2017-12-05 21:39

This seems really cool, but is admittedly pretty light on the instruction side of things. It took me a while to figure out how to place blocks, and I still don't know how to rotate them.

justking144 2017-12-05 21:41

Gotta be careful around Lego

Was really cool, but I had a hard time figuring out how to work it

mess110 2017-12-05 21:47

Took a while to build a "car" but it was fun. Nice implementation. Still needs polishing, but the core is there.

bonelazy 2017-12-06 06:36

@nehvis

Thanks. Since the core game framework took a lot of time, we unfortunately did not have enough time to polish the game. Due to this, creation mode camera controls are a bit wonky :( We will be patching the game with added QoL features and easier controls.

@TowerHufham

Thanks for the lovely feedback :) Your comment mirrors on what we thought after having finished the jam (including the lawyer part :D)

@Magnega

The basic controls are included in game, but more details are now added to LD page. Unfortunately rotating blocks are not an option for now :/ You need to create the same brick with the inverse of your dimensions.

@justking144

Hopefully it won't be an issue since this isn't a commercialized game. Also thanks, and we added instructions to the LD page :)

@mess110

Thanks a lot :) The core took most of our time so unfortunately we didn't have enough time to polish :(

szekeres-szabolcs 2017-12-06 16:09

With some polishing this could be an amazing game. I really love playing games with building blocks. Good job

pixelformedstudios 2017-12-06 16:11

Nice idea and executed well. Had a bit of trouble using the editor. The graphics were very well done.

yngvarr 2017-12-06 16:43

Hey, Linux version works like a charm!

The idea is so cool, and the fact someone made working Lego designer in 3 days just blows my mind. =) Enginering games are hard both to create and to play and you succeeded to make it enjoyable. Great!

The thing I don't like is the UI. White text on white background (there is a lot of white in the sky) is a strange decision. Plus, the behavior of block designer is unpredictable: it keeps giving me something I didn't ask such as 0x1x1 block.

But still the game is awesome! I'm looking forward to play a post-jam version.

bonelazy 2017-12-06 16:49

@szekeres-szabolcs, @pixelformedstudios and @yngvarr

Your feedback is appreciated very much. It brings us great joy to read these words from you :)

As we mentioned in the description, polish is greatly lacking due to the scope of the "builder" aspect of the game, and this unfortunately includes UI as well. We will be releasing a post-jam version with much better UI along with some additional QoL updates soon (as soon as I can get over the 3 day fatigue). Thank you very much :)

oceanosaurus 2017-12-06 16:55

It's really, really impressive you managed to make this for a Jam! I personally found the editor a bit hard to use, but the results were great once you got a hold of it. This has definitely a lot of potential for a full release, I would love to see a complete version. Congrats on releasing this Played it on Mac.

fasterthanlime 2017-12-06 18:11

Had a lot of fun playing around with it, I only wish there were more. Well done!

denbaum 2017-12-06 18:13

Nice game Dude. U are a real pro with Unity. A 3D Lugo editor+Game in 3 days nice! But i missed the Music. And i do not understand why i was losing in the second level all the time.

bonelazy 2017-12-06 21:18

Thanks a lot for all of your feedback. Your comments are really precious to us.

@denbaum Unfortunately we didn't have time to do any music, so the game is completely silent :( Also, the second level was bugged and now fixed in v1.2

@everyone else: We just released v1.2 with some bugfixes and creation controls overhaul. You now have more control over the camera. If there are any other constructive feedback, please keep them coming. Your great compliments keep us going :)

We will also be releasing a post-jam version in the future with more polish and level content. Be on the lookout :)

6smith 2017-12-06 22:01

after my first goal, the car seems to want to drive rapidly backwards without my input? anyways, really impressive for 72 hours

ithildin 2017-12-06 22:31

It looks awesome and I'm eager to try it, but for some reason I cannot play. Both the current and the deadline versions get stuck as soon as I press "Start". I get the loading Windows cursor and that's it :(

I'm on a freshly updated Windows 10-64b, and I can run relatively modern games without issues. Any ideas?

moski 2017-12-07 00:29

I know what I'm doing, okay?

Lugo_2017-12-06_19-25-09.png

That you managed to make a (somewhat) full fledged car building game in this little time is mind boggling to me, let alone one that is this functional, flexible and fun, even with a (very wonky) propeller. Just making it through the second level was a challenge for me, but one that I tackled with a moronic grin on my face.

What else is there to say? This game is sandbox lego building goodness. In a fair world, we wouldn't be asking for more than this. In behalf of my team, we look forward to seeing what other wacky projects you can come up with in the future. Cheers! :whale:

bonelazy 2017-12-07 06:42

@6smith Sorry about that! I think I made a "tiny" mistake and introduced that bug in the last build. I'll fix it this evening (EU time).

@ithildin The game loads after pressing Start. Maybe it takes quite a while for you to load? Have you tried to wait a bit?

@moski Yeah the propeller is kind of a WIP (work in progress), maybe I shouldn't even put it in, but I wanted some more variety. Thanks a lot for your amazing comment. Believe me, it put a much bigger grin on our faces after reading it. Thank you! :)

dudum-lare 2017-12-07 12:50

First of all I love the car creator builder thingy! It’s so innovative. I’m impressed!

Concerning the graphics you did a great job, I can totally see where you got your inspiration ;)

Overall I like this game so much. I had an amazing time playing it. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

sosonyamuchhon 2017-12-07 19:21

Hi, enjoyed ur game very much. There is a weird bug, if u dont rebuild u vehicle after completing the level, it goes backwards with a ridiculus speed (Sry if it wal already mentioned). Thanks for the game and gl in this ld )

markopolodev 2017-12-07 19:49

- I like the blur / focus effect, but it seems a bit strong for me - I made a super long car and trying to figure out if I was lining things up properly was difficult; consider toning it back a bit?

- The controls for changing height work very well and made working on multiple levels pretty fluid. The camera animations are not very fluid, though, and the camera always zooms in when going up a level. Smoother movement there would be nice.

- I had some difficulty getting wheels to properly attach to axles - they ended up floating in space: [](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDGnOnrZ_3o)

- I like the walled arena on a wooden tabletop feel, definitely gives off the "I'm actually putting this together on a desk from my childhood" vibe :relaxed:.

angelkyriako 2017-12-07 20:05

Great job guys. It took me a while to get the concept and did not manage to build something helicopterish. I would put some more work on the instructions if I were you :)

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it a lot.

I also had the bug SoSony mentioned and that was the point I stoped playing.

syrapt0r 2017-12-07 20:06

Very cool game! It just felt like building a lego car in my childhood - well done! Controls were nice once I had them figured out and driving felt really smooth as well.

What more can I say? Good job ^^

bonelazy 2017-12-07 20:07

@sosonyamuchhon Thanks for the comments. We just uploaded v1.21 which should fix that issue hopefully :)

@markopolodev Thanks for the feedback and criticism :) I just saw your comment after building v1.21 so that camera zoom bug will have to be fixed later :/ We are planning on adjusting the depth of field / blur while in creation mode in the post-jam update. If I understand correctly you would like smoother camera movement between changing levels and moving camera around with WASD? If so, we will take that into consideration for post-jam update :) Also, I had that wheel bug once in my testing and I couldn't reproduce / fix in time, so thanks showing it clearly, I will definitely try to fix it soon :)

Overall thanks a lot for the very in depth feedback and criticism. It is seriously appreciated. Also, we are glad you got the feeling which we wanted to invoke :) Thanks!

bonelazy 2017-12-07 20:10

@angelkyriako

I am so sorry about the bug. We literally just fixed it and put an updated version. Also, the propeller is kind of a work in progress so I couldn't make a helicopter as well :P There is currently no way of having movement in the air so it's kinda useless :D

@syrapt0r

Thanks for the great feedback :)

acr515 2017-12-07 20:15

Editor seems very slow, and it takes a while to make bricks, especially when I keep changing the depth and width settings and they aren't applying correctly for some reason to the new bricks I'm creating. Otherwise this is a very impressive game you have here for 72 hours. You have every right to be proud of this project; good job!

ciaranw 2017-12-07 20:19

A really pretty looking game! The distance blur could be a bit OTT, but did look really cute and toy-like. The building system was also pretty good, and i liked the ability to make custom block sizes. Nicely polished for an LD game too!

I did have a couple of issues. Firstly my car kept reversing backwards and I had to rebuild it. Second I thought it would be good to be able to delete single blocks without wiping everything, if there was a way, I couldn't find it.

But overall, a nice little game, and an amazing achievement in such a short time!

bonelazy 2017-12-07 20:20

@arc515 Thanks! :)

About the brick issue, I tried to reproduce it and failed. Are you sure you are clicking the "Save Brick Template" button, and then using the new brick you created from the list below?

soerensen3 2017-12-07 20:22

I really liked the idea, nicely done! Only the cumbersome editor is a bit of a drawback. The amount of depth blur matches the theme very well :P Only kidding! The editor should have a remove and a rotate tile feature and also it would certainly help if the steeering part had an arrow indicating the direction or somehow the steering was flipped. I had to restart three times from scratch because I made some stupid mistake. Looking for forward for a more polished version!

bonelazy 2017-12-07 20:23

@ciaranw Thanks a lot! :) Great feedback and criticism.

We just fixed that problem (I think!) with the recent v1.21 release. Are you using that or the previous ones? We had a delete feature but it got bugged during development, and to be honest we forgot to fix it! :O We will try to patch it up asap. Sorry about that

juancarlosgdm 2017-12-07 20:25

Nice game guys! It's amazing you got the editor and game! It's true that the editor isn't so fancy and easy to use, but for a jam is more than enough. Willing to know how the project is evolving :)

king-kujito 2017-12-07 20:33

Great idea :-D

Things I'd like to see: holding alt + LMB does the same as holding RMB (like a 3D modeling application would), The lowest graphics option should remove the heavy visual effects (my computer fan was going crazy even at the lowest setting).

tulipekoni 2017-12-07 20:35

Nice entry! I found the editor bit hard to use but eventually got it to work. Good job!

king-kujito 2017-12-07 20:38

Also whenever I press start on Osx, nothing happens

kurekurecicz 2017-12-07 20:45

this is amazing! Just, amazing

odd 2017-12-07 21:22

Really bright and attractive idea but the UI/UX design is a bit confusing : it's hard to identify which brick you choose, maybe an image of the brick would have been better. Then it's a bit frustrating to not have the possibility to remove the bricks. Except those minor details, it's an really impressive 72h-made game ! Well done !

markopolodev 2017-12-07 23:12

@bonelazy > If I understand correctly you would like smoother camera movement between changing levels and moving camera around with WASD?

the WASD movement is fine, just changing layers vertically that has a bit of jerk to it. I guess if you wanted to be really fancy with wasd you could add a bit of lerp to smooth it out, but I think it's fine as is.

bonelazy 2017-12-08 14:17

Thanks to everyone for great feedback :) We will consider them all.
