Really fun game. Good graphics, sound effects and visual effects. It's fun to go shooting things and avoiding bombs.

corc0 2017-12-04 22:12

So, this game FEELS good, which is saying something. It's satisfying to shoot and it's fun to move and you really do feel it when you get hit... and all this for a game with a large ball as a protagonist?

Not including a jump was a really good choice. I dig. (EDIT: It totally does, @BinarySpark . I must just be enjoying the challenge.) Thank you for this!

prostone 2017-12-04 22:16

Pretty fun game, was a little harder for me, as I was dying really fast, but enjoyed every bit of it. Well executed, plays smoothly. Would maybe like to see a little more down, but thats just... not that important.

rob-white 2017-12-04 22:17

The game feels great to play. Everything packs a punch and the feeling of momentum increasing as you plummet down is great. It reminds me of Downwell. That being said, the shooting sound did grate on me quite quickly.

mathiouza 2017-12-04 22:18

17724 ! Is that bad ? Cool game ! Lacks music but fun game, I liked shooting bombs x)

Keep coding !

mrthee 2017-12-04 22:20

Fun! Game feel and feedback on this is very solid. A bit frame-y in the web browser, and I kind which there was a better indicator for what was up-ahead (er, down below), but overall a well-put together game and entry :)

neowedge 2017-12-04 22:21

The game feeling is great! Control and physics work nice :).

binaryspark 2017-12-04 22:21

@corc0 It does have a jump, press spacebar!

Thank y'all for your feedback! <3

happygreenfrog 2017-12-04 22:57

Pretty enjoyable game overall, though the lack of background music hurts it a bit, and more importantly, I wasn't really feeling the game's use of the "The more you have, the worse it is" theme. But don't get me wrong: I had a fun time with this game, and it's definitely one of the better ones I've played so far.

jcmonkey 2017-12-05 02:07

this is a pretty fun game to play, maybe add more explosions, yes more explosions!!

xarras 2017-12-05 12:55

Very good game! I found myself playing for longer I expected just because of how enjoyable it feels it's just right, I felt in control of the ball at all times, I decided how hard I wanted it to be and definitely died because I pushed myself too far in an overdose of confidence. The explosions, mechanic, the sound, the FX for when you are shooting, and of course the power ups. Great!

split82 2017-12-05 13:35

This was a lot of fun. Great job!

kafkalovesyouy 2017-12-05 14:00

Very juicy, very fun! I'd LOVE a wall jump feature (maybe a powerup if it's OP?) and some kinda adrenaline pumping soundtrack go get me Going Fast!

gruhh 2017-12-05 17:29

Simple but well executed game. I was a little wary of the controls to play on the keyboard but nothing to disturb the game. And I think a stronger soundtrack would help a lot in the feeling. Congratulations on the work!

Jogo simples, mas bem executado. Estranhei um pouco os controles para se jogar no teclado mas nada que atrapalhasse o jogo. E acho que uma trilha sonora mais forte ajudaria muito no feeling. Parabéns pelo trabalho!

meskaline 2017-12-05 18:56

Fun game and concept. GJ!

azlen 2017-12-05 19:05

Very exhilarating game, reminds me of Downwell but with a very different style and feel.

janachumi 2017-12-05 20:44

It's so cool I don't wanna stop to play

potti 2017-12-05 21:11

Looks and feels good. I might have gotten a little hooked.

dr-argus 2017-12-06 06:04

I streamed this game last night and found it to be very challenging (granted I was also very tired)! This is a great looking game. Very polished. I definitely need more practice but this seems like a pretty complete game to me. Great job!

binaryspark 2017-12-06 10:25

@dr-argus Thank you! I don't suppose you have a VOD somewhere? I'd love to watch it; I'm collecting feedback and intend to continue working on this game.

kafkalovesyouy 2017-12-06 11:11

@binaryspark Yes, please keep wortking on it!

draperdanman 2017-12-06 16:03

The use of resources is balanced very well. I always felt like I couldn't spam shooting in order to slow my fall or destroy every bomb. The destruction was quite fun in of itself, it reminded me of an old flash game called Motherlode! The score ticker also felt great!

gwolf86 2017-12-06 16:11

This is awesome! The graphics and sound effects are both awesome and the game is really fun to play. I did find that the best strategy was to just hug the wall, so if you keep working on it, maybe add some sections where you can't just rely on sticking to the side. Great work!

nick-rafalski 2017-12-06 16:33

Really well built game. The graphics and audio/visual effects all combine for a really satisfying feel.

I really enjoy the trade off between just plummeting down at break-neck speed, vs being more tactical. The resource management is incorporated very well too.

The only negative I have is that I felt like the level was too wide. If I saw a cool power-up on the other side of the screen, there was really nothing I could do to get to it. This kinda dissuaded me from playing as 'tactically' as I initially thought I was supposed to, it just devolved into me shooting and hoping I didn't happen to run into a mine. I think if the level was only ~7 squares wide, and I could see further down, I would feel much more rewarded for playing tactically. However, this would necessarily make the game less about twitch-based reactions, which may be what you're going for.

Regardless, one of the best I've played so far :)

nokusu 2017-12-06 17:15

Fun arcade game, i really liked how frantic things go when you manage to build up speed, the low poly aestetic was cool as well, the gamefeel overall is really tight and the pacing was really good.

The only negative i.m.o. would be the lack of music :(

but hey it's not that big of a deal, otherwise it's really solid, and i enjoyed the game.

well done, especially for a compo entry :)

binaryspark 2017-12-06 18:33

@nick-rafalski @nokusu @gwolf86 Thank you for your feedback and kind words!

Interestingly I was actually thinking about making the level *wider*, to perhaps give the player more room to manoeuver. You make a good case though, I'll have to think about this some more.

@draperdanman My previous LD entry, Unobtainium, is based on Motherload!

I intend to continue working on this, and yes, there will be music! If you're interested, keep an eye on the itch.io page, any updates will appear there.

honest-dan 2017-12-07 12:00

Once I got used to it, I found it enjoyable. Did end up feeling like I could cheese it a bit through sticking on one side and just timing sprays of bullets, but then it wasn't a flawless approach. The downside is that you go so fast you can't even predict what's below, but then thats the point of the game - it becomes hard to control if you go faster. A great feeling when you get a long falling streak with some rapid fire pew pew goodness! Thanks for letting me play on stream, good fun game that I enjoyed playing.

kyle-pham 2017-12-23 23:52

Really enjoyable game. Cool graphics and effects. The audio really suits it as well.

My only one suggestion is that to make the game suit the theme more, I feel like this kind of gets easy if you stay on one side the whole time and not free-falling. Also the boost sometimes are too beneficial (the extra life one) and there should be fewer boosts.

I really like this game. There should be a hall of fame or something like that because I spent so much time to play this game and I would love to see my name in that.

binaryspark 2017-12-29 15:32

@kyle-pham Thank you for your feedback! The issues you've mentioned are addressed in the Postjam version which I'll be releasing soon. I posted a video and some notes on the itch.io page, if you're interested! https://binaryspark.itch.io/the-floor-is-lava/devlog/19452/ld40-results-postjam-version
