Just to be clear I created 2 levels! First one is the tutorial then level 2 is a full level :) level 3 is...errr well it didn't happen! Oooo and I also used TextMeshPro for text stuffs :)

This is more like: The less you have, the worse it is

simone 2017-12-04 17:05

Nice game, it would have been perfect if the shooting mechanics were not connected to the mouse. But the graphics is really cool and the music is not bad at all! ;)

kizzyman 2017-12-04 17:17

@darkgrisen that wasn't the intention haha, the idea is that you are constantly growing in size which makes it more difficult to complete the level. (The shooting probably needed a cooldown so you had to use it tactically).

@Simone you reckon having it on the arrow keys would have been better? defiantly something to try out :), Thanks I appreciate the feedback :)

I struggled with the jump and fire, some times it worked other times it didn't send me high enough. The sound loop is a little short and gets a bit too much, Nice idea with the slime though and was still a fun platformer

You use Bosca Ceoil as well, nice!

I'm not sure why the shooting was actually shooting - it didn't kill enemy slimes. Perhaps the interaction would have made more sense as a boost? It's a perfectly good function, but your form is off.

That being said, I found the shooting difficult to combine with jumps - it sometimes just didn't work. I had some similar issues with the double jump timing too.

This might be some very subjective feedback, but I didn't like the mix of high resolution type with the pixel art visuals. It just looks a bit messy to me.

Nice as a first entry though - keep at it!

Very neat! I love the concept and how you have to think about your size a bit. The text and UI in general is a bit sloppy in my opinion but my biggest complaint is that it was so short! Nice entry.

Okay, the platforming is extremely rough. I was constantly getting stuck on the walls and it felt like my jump was sometimes high enough and sometimes not. The level design is really not friendly to the game mechanic. I couldn't finish the second level because I could rarely make all the jumps successfully or I would have trouble getting past the 3rd enemy.

The level design is that of a basic platformer, not one where the character is a maleable blob that grows or shrinks in size.

Lastly, the music had way too much bass in my opinion.

So if you can fix the collision detection, and come up with some clever level design, then you might have something here.

Cool concept ! I like it

This is a great game for your first entry. There were just a couple things that were annoying such as not being able to figure out how to shoot slime and the level design on your second level. On platformers like this, the player should not be immediately hit by an enemy give the player time to learn the level. I also found myself getting stuck in the columns because my size was too big. Then being able to glitch my way to the top even though I was falling. However, I really like the graphics and mechanics behind the game and feel like with enough polish and time you could really get somewhere with this. Great entry.

I think this is an interesting concept, I just don't think it was used to its maximum potential. Like, there should have been some switches you needed to be big to activate, or a small passage you need to quickly shrink through or get popped by spikes.

So, it looks like this was your first time, right? My biggest advice: add sound effects. Even if it's just for jumping and shooting, I feel they add an incredible amount of player feedback and audio dynamicity to mix up the looping background music.

I liked the main idea of the game, the mechanic is nice, but it has problems, specially with the physics. I think there is too much friction with the walls, and it makes it really hard to jump, specially with the type of level you designed. I think it can be a good game if you fix some key problems.

kyle-pham 2017-12-13 05:16

I like the idea really much. However, the control is somewhat annoying and hard. A, D and then space (and mouse as well). It should be changed so that the jump button should be closer to the move buttons. Level 2 is kinda hard, but I passed it. Don't know if there is level 3 though. There is also the problem when you get stuck to the wall (which I don't know is intentional or not, I used to make a game fairly similar to this and I did not make it stick). But this game is overall good and really addictive.

It is a nice concept, however a little weird to control. I had problems to try to jump and shoot at the same time, and also why don't the shots affect the enemies? I expected that they did but no effect.

The art is pretty nice and the background music groovy, which fits nicely with the game. Some sound effects would be a great addition. And the slime animation was cool too :)

Also, kudos for creating a tutorial level! However, maybe you should allow the player to first understand the platforming controls and then after that introduce the enemies. The learning curve will be better.

But this was a great concept and I think you created a good base. Some improvements will help the game be even more solid :) Good work!

I actually liked the concept, getting bigger and bigger. Too sad I'm way too bad in platformers (and I generally hate them - due to controls), and I was unable to beat level 2.

The art is okay, the tutorial has steep learning curve, but it was good. Also I remember how making a tutorial can be challenging - we did so in LD 38. And you never make a perfect one.

All in all the growing was cool, the machanics of shooting under you and boosting yourself makes this quite playable and the game feels quite polished!

Keep up the good work!

Nice concept. But 5 second into the game, all i was wondering was why can't the enemy die. Tried shooting, squashing(like mario) then i realized it's not meant to be killed

Like others have mentioned, I have trouble jumping and shooting at the same time. The physics feels a bit weird. Growing mechanic was fine. However, I feel like growing based on time is not the best way to approach this. Not sure what's better though.

Overall, pretty nice game. I think the biggest problem is with the controls. If you fix that, it would be much better :)
