Nice space game, nice story!
Very nice game, I completed it and the difficulty does not seem that high. Very fun game though, loved the ending. "I am bob, you will be bob. Fighting is useless" -Bob
Loved the cutscenes! Lots of great looking models for such a short amount of time. Gameplay was a little bit frustrating at first but I think I eventually "got it" by the second level. Good work!
@aligator - Thanks!
@noobhereo - Thank you! Glad you liked the ending - it was a last-minute addition!
@wonz - Thank you! I'm happy you liked the cutscenes and models! I couldn't figure out a way to properly explain the gameplay, but at least you figured it out eventually.
Interesting game! In the end I found that sitting in one spot and shooting to the rhythm was the easiest, since eventually enemy ships would cross the path of the weapons fire.
I appreciate that you took the time to subtitle the voice work on the cutscenes.
I thought I had a good sense of rhythm but apparently not... This game is super funny and the cutscenes are crazy well made!
I really like the cutscenes and the ending, very impressive for the compo!
@viashimo - Thanks for the feedback! Interesting strategy, I didn't think about it. I hope it wasn't too boring this way. I actually created the subtitles first as a placeholder for the VA - glad it helped!
@markymark - Thank you!
@cagibi - Thanks!
I really like the awesome intro cutscene and the take in the theme as "They only can delay you, you'll always win" is a very smart move :)
Really neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/PKNtuuCFWt0
I love that you made cutscenes, thats a lot of work for compo! The animations were really cute too.
As far as the game mechanic, its actually quite clever to combine a rhythm game with a shooter, but i think there are some problems that arise since the movement of the ships youre trying to shoot is not synchronized with the music. I think with a bit more attention and tweaking you could really make it work though.
Nice work!
Had so much fun!! Thank you :). Everything the other guys said + maybe the game was a little too easy? I got hit a lot, but never died. Maybe some feedback on one's health points would be nice. However there was just so much in there for a jam game, there was probably no time left I can imagine!
@ccglp - Thanks! I'm glad you liked my take on the theme!
@jupiter-hadley - Thank you for playing it! I'm happy you liked the triangle robot - they were fun to voice!
@josh-bothun - Thank you! I'm glad you liked the animations & cutscenes - they took a lot of work indeed. You're right about the ship's movement - I don't know how to synchronize it without it seeming too robotic, though...
@unfinished - Thank you! I'll take too easy over too hard any day :) Taking damage only delays you (reduces your rhythm meter) since that's the theme, but I should've probably communicated that better.
Passed happy minutes helping the worm. I love the intro with dilley Russian accent (and Grunt with a bit of Borat isn't it?). By the way I didn't undestand how to be in rithm :(. I will check source code on how you made the cutscenes, thanks for your entry !
Funniest game I have played for LD50 so far! Really good jokes. Although I guess it's good that I saw some of the last few MCU movies. Came for the gameplay, stayed for the cutscenes!
feels a lot like the cutscenes in donkey kong 64, I love that, the voiceover is lovely! the nature of the fight feels also like star fox 64, which is also a good reference to have in a game, not sure if that was on purpose but you nailed it :clap:
@nenechico - Thanks for the feedback! I didn't really think about the characters' accents (besides General India), but I'm glad you liked them! To be in rythm, you need to both shoot on the beat and hit enemy ships with those shots (hitting doesn't need to happen on beat - only shooting). It's a bit confusing... Most of the cutscene-related source code is from my [UnityUtils](https://github.com/GurLad/UnityUtils) repo, although it will probably make more sense if you view this game's source. I hope that helps!
@diego-escalante - Thank you! I'm glad you liked the cutscenes so much! Yes, it's a very reference heavy game, for better and worse.
@velvetlobster - Thanks! I've actually never played Donkey Kong 64, although Star Fox 64 was indeed the main inspiration for the gameplay sections!
@frogman have a check, I believe you will understand why I thought it was a nice reference :smile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KIObmo4rSM
Donkey Kong 64 is one of the best games of the n64 era imho
This might be the best fit for the theme, Dilley the Inevitable, genius! The cut-scenes made me laugh, and the music was good too, though moving in order to time the shots was a bit tricky. Very impressive!
I just realized this is a compo game, which makes this one even more impressive! Had a great time playing it and welcoming you to the stream today! Here's the link if you want to rewatch it: https://youtu.be/LUs4mltqVVw
@tompudding - Thank you!
@erkberg - Thank you so much for playing it on stream! I'm glad you liked it! You're totally right about moving & shooting - when I made this game, my intention was for people to either move or attack on the beat, but in the final game there's little incentive to do so. Looking forward to watching your next streams!
Forget claptrap! That triangle bro is awesome
Great game, love the fact that you've added cutscenes with voice overs!
This was absolutely hilarious. I was laughing the whole way through. Really good job implementing a story with lots of cutscenes, and it was super fun as a parody of Infinity War.
Something I like about the gameplay itself is the specific use of the theme. At the beginning of the compo I had thought about trying to make a game where the "inevitable" part is something positive, such as winning, and I think this is the only game I've seen so far that really went for that.
The rhythm part of the gameplay, I think, can be fun--there were places where I would shoot three bullets in a row all on beat during a specific part of the music. However, it seemed to me like usually lining up the shot with the correct square made it impossible to actually hit the button on beat correctly.
I think perhaps it would work better to have no movement keys at all, and just have maybe like 4 different quadrants for the spaceship--then each quadrant would be assigned a single button, and the button would do move and shoot. Then it would just be a pure rhythm game, which, while somewhat less novel, would probably make the gameplay flow smoother.
That said, this was definitely one of the most fun entries I've played. It's just a good time all the way through. Very good job there!
