Sorry, the game won't run. It pulls up errors on the title screen.
@kafkalovesyouy You should add the external files to the project on GM:S. I ran through the source code, but it also throws a bunch of errors after the initial dialogue, so I couldn't play it :/
@valkling-friend-of-all-things @ryuzaki-mrl does the zip file not extract the included files to the same folder? I'm not having any issues running the compiled exe on my end, so it's hard to pin down the issue. Also what OS are you on? I am like 90% certain it just won't run on Win8
I'm on Windows 10 and also seeing errors when it launches. Cute intro music! I'd love to give this one a shot, so I'll check in later on to see if you figured out what the issue is and got it running for people :)
It won't run on Win 10 either. - 6ab767a0f6c356c8dda5bceabb214b70.png
@willisika and @basecase can I ask you to check the folder with the game exe in it for files like "level_0" and a txt file called "dialogue1"? I'm afraid I can't recreate the issue even when I install the game on an external drive so long as the included files are in the same folder as the exe. Thanks for notifying me though, this is obviously a huge problem!
Yeah it's not working on my end either (Windows 10). I get the same error as @willsika. Maybe you forgot to include a file in the zip? Here's the list of files that were extracted from the zip by 7z: manifest.jpg
When you upload a fixed version let me know and I'll check it out!
@ale those are all the files... I don't have time today, but I might have to set up an option to manually find the files (which, uhhh, needless to say is suboptimal) because I do not understand the underlying issue. But thanks again, everyone, for being so helpful and patient!
Same error as @willisika :sob:
The music sound great though, it's a shame!
If this issue gets fixed I'd be happy to play - as with the other commenters
@kafkalovesyouy Good luck!
Sorry same error as @willisika ... also on Windows 10...
:sob: So far it seems to be a windows 10 issue which I don't really have opportunity to do QA on, I honestly don't know what to do. Thanks everyone for being so kind about it.
Same as @Ponchoguy and @wilisika wasn't able to play, though the music was really good !
Update for people with issues; Please check the itch.io page again https://kafkalovesyou.itch.io/ld40 and hopefully the new file (marked Win10HOTFIX) should work? If not, please show me the exact error message. Thank you thank you all for your patience and helpfulness!
Very nice, could use some more feature but great overall!
Check out my game if you would like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected
Game's cool! If you weren't under the effect of any substance when you made it, then I gotta say you're very fucking creative dude! I loved the talk they have at the beggining, and the game mechanics seemed cool, but I kept spawning in the first level so I just saw that one :(
Btw, noone uses windows 7, so next time try making the default game for win 10 ;)
The hotfix works on Windows 10. Great work!
Oh guy. I was happy when I saw the gamemaker studio 1.4 and... it is really good ;) i really like this game the experimental version works on win 10. Good luck.
Thanks everyone for the reassurance! What a relief!
@peredom you're absolutely right, I really ought to get Win10. But of course they dropped the free Win10 updates exactly when it stopped being terrible :stuck_out_tongue:
I'm being spawned in the same level over and over again after I beat it, so I wasn't able to see whole game, but I still like it. And the music is great <3. Good job!
@korpokrowa I'll look into it :) Thanks for the kind words!
Charming little game, music is good, graphics are not very good but it is a compo so. Overall, not bad. Music is my favourite part and the idea is pretty interesting/funny
Nice puzzle game dude, I liked the Gameplay and the music, Continue like this, you are on a good way
I get an error saying that the level failed to load after the dialogue and can only play the test level.
@stevenjmiller I've gotten a few reports like that, I'm looking into it. I don't know if I'll be able to fix it without essentially changing a lot of stuff, so maybe it'll have to be a post compo-version. Thank you and all for the feedback!
Let me know if it gets fixed, I love what I've seen so far!
I'm also having the "repeat the same level over and over" problem, so I can't assess the game fully. But it has a nice idea.
I only had a couple small issues. One is that the camera doesn't stay at a constant position relative to your character, so it can be annoying to try to throw a coin while jumping. The other is that the walljump should maybe only happen while you are holding towards the wall you want to jump off (like Megaman X). There were a few times when I was just trying to double jump up something but because I was too close to the wall, it would wall jump on my second jump.
Edit: the thing with the camera would probably be fine if you could see where your cursor is, but with just the arrow it's a bit strange.
thank you @sadcolor, they're good points! I'll consider it for the postjam version!
So... I made a [post explaining](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/ld40-entry/a-question-for-all) why I might consider postponing a post-jam version of the game indefinitely.
After some feedback and reflection, I've decided to do exactly that. That is to say that the post-jam version is essentially canceled, unless I find interest in it again.
This was a fun first LD, but I have to return to other projects. Thank you all for playing, for leaving feedback, for bug reports and for encouraging words. It honestly means the world to me.
