LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Ignorance is Bliss by Aurel300 2017-12-06T01:52:17Z

Really like the retro/cybernoir aesthetic! It took a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing; gathered that I was a sentient AI hooked into the surveilance and communications network, but wasn't sure what the goal was. Still, great job on immersion and a unique minimal interface. Hopefully you'll expand on this in the future!

Not candy crush by eptwalabha 2017-12-06T01:00:34Z

Very addictive! I wasn't going to play originally since I'm personally up to here with all the Candy Crush clones. But so glad I did because this game is a blast! Like Sudoku but with emoji. Great job with the expressions and emergent gameplay. You opted out of the audio voting, but honestly I think the lack of sound makes it that much more immersive (like doing a logic or crossword puzzle). Awesome job!

Lava Cave by Goplite 2017-12-06T00:30:15Z

Nice work with the jump/climb/ledge mechanics. I also like how it gets more difficult as you get higher. Wasn't expecting progression or level design in an LD game! After a while it did start to feel repetetive and became an exercise in jump coordination, but if more "doodads' were added as the player ascends I can see this being a really fun game.

Petrucio, the gem stealer by Thiago Ferraro 2017-12-06T00:11:49Z

Great game! I found myself aiming more for the pickaxes than the gems. Nice graphics and music too, everything fit really well together. Found "just one more turn" becoming a problem, which is always good.

Retro Rave Meteor Strike! by ksbdude 2017-12-06T00:36:36Z

After getting a hang of the controls, I found myself seeking out likely asteroids to hit rather than avoiding everything. Nice concept to merge two play goals at once (avoid and hit). The music kind of started to grate though after a few plays. Asteroid graphics were good, felt very retro.

Starbage Man by BryceLTaylor 2017-12-06T00:49:55Z

Okay, this is by far the best game I've played for this LD so far! Excellent mechanics, interface, graphics (seriously, cutscenes in an LD game?) and even worldbuilding. 5 stars in everything (except audio, which gave 3.5 for voice acting). I want to keep playing, and will likely be back just for fun. Curious, was this in any way inspired by Schlock Mercenaries?

Beware the Slime by SophieM 2017-12-06T00:05:54Z

I liked the graphics I saw, but would have been nice if an xbox controller and 2nd player weren't required though.

Don't take my coins by JanaChumi 2017-12-05T23:57:00Z

Concept was interesting, kind of reminded me of the classic Peter Pan and the Pirates NES game. The climbing controls felt kind of clunky when mounting/dismounting a ladder. Overall nice job though.

LD42 — Running out of space

Brick Brawlers by Tony Li 2018-08-14T19:09:57Z

Excellent concept! I LOL when the brick missed, and flew back at me from the other side. It's like a strategy based puzzle platformer, rather complex for an LD game. Maybe add a little more time to the timer?

Great job.

Space Escape by paulhocker 2018-08-14T20:00:52Z

Not usually a fan of Match-3 games, but this works really well. I was paying more attention to the board than how things affected the ship (while remaining aware that the goal was to get as many blue Warp gems as possible). One of the more addictive games I've seen for this jam. Nice job!

Explodasharks by Micahtron 2018-08-14T20:30:52Z

Thanks for the great feedback everyone! Glad people are having fun :)

@nam-nguyen LOL yep. The next item on the list was actually to implement random respawning for the sharks and barrel, but... deadlines ;) BTW your game Space Invasion is amazing!

@sylvie Was it the water? When I put in the "float" mechanics it took away jumping ability if standing in the water, unless you're sanding on a submerged platform.

@josehzz Yeah, that's a bug. The collision processing for held items is calculated from the player position, so If the barrel is carried above the screen (and therefore outside processing coordinates) then the JavaScript complains and locks everything up.

I'll most certainly continue working on this beyond LD 42. Meanwhile looking forward to playing more of the other games out there!

Onion Ring by Don Fouts 2018-08-14T20:38:00Z

Really like the graphics! Became kind of disoriented for the first couple of playthroughs (Mario 64 syndrome). What did you use to make this?

Overall nice concept. Getting the first growth booster pretty much decides the outcome of the match for me.

Cybermind by GrizzledBoor 2018-08-14T18:18:17Z

Really enjoyed the graphics. Nice work!

Space Goats 2 by Tim Ruswick 2018-08-14T18:12:14Z

The voiceovers really sell it! Significantly high production value for a LD game. I never did make it past the group of vikings near the end, and found it faster if instead of eating things to just dash and dodge. Has serious potential with some polish and more content levels/items. Has an urgent Kirby-esque feel to it.

Construction Pit by TheSomeoneXD 2018-08-14T02:37:41Z

NIntendo hard, just how I love it! The move/jump mechanics could use a little finesse, but this is an LD game so that's not really expected. The concept is brilliant, and the music is something straight out of 30 years ago. Did you write it. All in all, excellent game.

Oh, and props for including an in-game cutscene.

Mouse Trap! by Krooked590 2018-08-14T02:46:24Z

Fun game, and I like the concept. Was able to learn to play as I go, so the gameplay design is good. Also like all the random items that show up in the maze. My only problem was the "walls-closing-in" mechanic. It felt more punishing than challenging. Maybe have the inner walls shift so you're not just trapped in a pocket of isolation awaiting your Game Over?

Delete After Reading by AndrewW 2018-08-14T19:33:57Z

Excellent game! It took a few tries to figure out how to play properly, but once you get going it's addictive. I would say the lack of backtracking is an issue (i.e. can keep ejected disks on the side for re-insertion), but maybe the one-time-only decision is an intended part of the gameplay. Love the graphics, retro done right!

Growth Rates by kalcoslinder 2018-08-14T19:17:55Z

Was fun, good concept. Kind of has a Katamari Damacy mechanic to it. Would really like to see expanded to include further levels/areas.

Due Process by scottyseus 2018-08-14T19:44:35Z

Nice concept with the prisoner-pairing mechanic. Never was a fan of grimdark (says the guy who made a game about sharks with rocket launchers), but your concept is really clever. Was a nice treat to see some recognizable characters. Good job!

Inventory Quest by acfaruk 2018-08-14T19:03:05Z

Fun and addictive. I second on the immediate feedback though, since while collecting I wasn't sure what I was going for other than freeing space. There were items I knew to keep from their description, just didn't know for what. Also love the Mega Man style graphics!

Space Invasion by Nam Nguyen 2018-08-14T20:13:48Z

By far my favorite game of LD 42 so far. The graphics are beautiful and amazing, the gameplay simple and addictive, and the ambience ties together really well. Plus the "encouragement trolls" are a nice touch. Really can't identify anything that needs improvement. Excellent work!

Space Collapse by Steffanie 2018-08-14T02:08:53Z

The graphics were great, and the music very easy to play to. Maybe I don't know how to steer the ship correctly, so all I did was circle strafe the sun and spam attack everything coming in. Still, fun game!

High Tide [html5] by SuperQGS 2018-08-14T02:27:15Z

Nice idea. I got to the innermost part of the island and still lost. Is there a win condition?

Puzzle #42 Running out of space by calixjumio 2018-08-14T02:58:43Z

Great idea. Was able to get the final large box halfway in. The "scrunch" mechanics took a while to figure out, as did the view sliding. Fun game though. I always love a good slider puzzle! Nice job.
