Really cute/innovative idea, and great use of the theme - it really did get tricky as the rules piled on. Great use of text to speech, also!
Really fantastic juice/gamefeel - every action you take is tremendously satisfying. The vibrant visuals are terrific, although everything is so bright and colorful and fast-moving that it's a bit hard to pick out enemies from items, which made my first few runs a bit confusing. Excellent work overall!
Good stuff! A creative and well-executed use of the theme, sold by quality art (love the character animation!) and really effective/theme-appropriate UI elements like the heart pointer and the flashing pink cones of jealousy. My only gripe would be that the visuals clash a bit in places - going from tiled floors with elaborate textures to tiles that are flat colors, etc.
Lots of great little touches in this. I like that there's an animation tell you have to watch for to predict the next wave of eggs, while also splitting your attention with the field. The fact that there are actually different varieties of chickens (and that you can see which ones you've "unlocked") adds a ton of flavor and even a sense of progression. Good work!
This would make a great addictive mobile game. I love the high difficulty, the level design, and the way it ties in to the theme. The aesthetics are appealing and consistent, if simple. That said, and I know you've heard this already, the countdown clock at the beginning is way too punishing, and it magnifies the frustration caused by "cheap deaths". I also think you could tweak the collision detection a bit to make it a tiny bit more forgiving - 90% of the time my deaths came from barely catching corners, and it didn't always feel like I'd "earned" my loss. Overall really excellent work, though!
Surprisingly tense and atmospheric, despite the extreme minimalism. The music and lighting effects really sell this simple concept as a complete, satisfying package. Good work!
That was... way more wit, detail, and social commentary than I was expecting from a Pico8 clicker game. Enjoyed the entire journey, from "supplanting mallow clicker jobs through automation" to "full-on Illuminallow-sponsored mallowcide".
...I think the crying robot animations may still have been my favorite part, though.
Great translation of Christmas iconography into SHMUP enemies/bullets, and the twist at the end is a great touch. Good job!
Top notch visuals, and the core gameplay that's there feels strong, if a little on the short and easy side. That said, I did feel the lack of audio feedback - might be worth checking out a tool like BFXR in the future to generate some quick sounds for your games.
Excellent work! The minimalist visuals and audio work really well to strike a tone, and the controls, combat, and especially enemy design felt polished and incredibly satisfying.
I felt like the combat became a little easy once I realized I could shoot through walls, but then that made the later stages (where you have to rely on the knowledge you've picked up about the enemy patterns to survive) all the more tense and enjoyable.
One problem: my run stopped abruptly when I ran into a staircase that just didn't let me progress when I touched it... I assume this is a bug? Kind of unfortunate. I'll def. be replaying & recommending this one regardless!
@lamossus Right, this isn't supposed to be taking the place of the original jam version - I still have a link to that version on the itch.io page. Could definitely make it more prominent. Thanks for pointing this out!
edit: Added a link to the original jam version onto this page as well.
Great use of the theme! Some nice aesthetic touches too, ex. the facial expressions and the background music. I will say that deaths often felt sudden and unexpected - if there was just a death sound/animation after touching spikes it would feel a lot more organic. (Even better would be if the camera snapped over to the character that died, so you'd know exactly where you messed up.)
Wonderful minimalist aesthetics and a very creative use of the theme! I will say that the HTML5 version didn't quite fit in my window unless I zoomed out - might want to tweak that a bit in the itch.io settings/CSS, if possible.
