Wow! I really enjoyed the audio design in the library! Having the crystal knocking when it was nearby was a huge immersion boon! Great work!

Wow! I really enjoyed the audio design in the library! Having the crystal knocking when it was nearby was a huge immersion boon! Great work!
This game was a lot of fun to play. It had some intense moments where I hid behind a bookshelf as a librarian searched the room. Hiding areas I wouldn't be able to see made it feel there was always a chance a librarian was around the corner.
The main thing I'd add would be more intense sound effects when the librarians see the player. It could really up the fear.
Really nice game, and quite good soundtrack, too!
Impressive to have implemented a level generator with lock-and-door support! I wish I had had time to do that on our entry haha.
Have to say though, the player sprite could use some more contrast in relation to the scenery.
Loved the sound, the mood of the game is great, it feels very intense at times which is the kind of thing you want in a horror game. Good job!
The music, art, and lighting really worked together to give that creepy mood, well done on that. I enjoyed having to explore and try to get around the enemies to continue on my exploration of the dungeon. The locked doors really went far in this. Great game!
This is a great game! I've never seen a roguelike regenerate the level behind the player, but it works really well for this. The librarian's movement and animation is fantastically creepy. My one issue is that it makes it a little too easy that you can hide behind any bookshelf.
Neat game, impressive level generator for a jam game, and the "light visibility" algorithm was really cool. It was a bit hard to see the player since hes the same color as a the floor. Great ambient sounds too, it was spooky and mystical. Not sure about the "2 incompatible genres" fitting the theme. Nice work!
Good Art and design. Simple Gameplay But its fun
@joel-davis actually this isn't an algorithm, for the sake of speed I used a trick and some shaders. This technique is explained in https://simonschreibt.de/gat/teleglitch-viewcones/ I improved it a bit, but the idea is same.
Of course, the rendering is good! And being chased in this mysterious library by monsters lovecraftien works very well! it lacks a map or a level design better built to be discovered because everything looks a bit! Nice game !
Damn, I was not far from beating your high score ! That is for sure a great game ! To make the monsters more threatening, I think it would be better not to have these square corners, cause it's quite easy to use them to hide easily.
Great build of atmosphere. I think if you added some lighting while keeping it dark, it would boost up the creepiness factor!
Am I the only one having a problem loading the game? After I click START, it turns black with only 2 book icons...I can hear the background sound tho.

When I first started, I was stuck almost immediately. I might have missed the button, but I could have sworn I searched everywhere. When I restarted, I was able to make a lot of progress and had a lot of fun.
The line of sight thing is *very* cool, I love it. And the sound/music really adds to the ambience. My heart rate literally went up when I was hiding from those creatures. If you ever add more to this, I'd definitely play it. Good job!
THe music is super creepy but it really give a strong disturbing feeling. The work on vocals reverb is really interesting. The gameplay is overall pretty good but it miss some more events in the level.
I love your level design system, with top down view and 3D wall. Good jobs guys
Wow nice work. Super difficult to figure out what to do, how do I use the books?nice procedural work ,pretty compelling game really, just some tlc and polish could be great.Love the music btw.
@finalspace Oh, it's a shame, can you please tell which browser you are using and if you have updated it recently? The problem may be in unupdated webgl API. Also now you can donwload windows build as well as untested macOS and Linux builds from the bottom of the game page.
What can I say... You have managed pretty well to prevent me from sleeping today XD The atmosphere is very good and the music fully integrated. My congrats! PD: with some darkness you could make very cool effects, like using lights and warning the player that the boss is coming with red flashes on the screen. Keep working on it! Good job!
Oh jeez. I don't like this what is this thing get away get away get away. Okay I'm safe. Now lets ransack these bookshelves. Okay now lets press this button, ooh cool the door opened, lets see whats-- NOPE. run run run Oh now I'm dead :(
- my thought process while acquiring my high score of 6
Good job, fun game. However as you mentioned, it really doesn't fit the theme. Good job for making something anyway though!
This game made me really tense while I was playing. I liked the atmosphere and sound,as well as the randomness of the elements in the scenario. Great work!
Really neat atmosphere, The light visibility was really neat although it doesn't quite work right in some edge cases. Screen Shot 2018-04-26 at 10.24.41 AM.png Cool game.
Oh man, this is a great game! I was a little confused at first, but I really got into it when I figured it out. Sneaking around the monsters is creepy and exciting. I even got confident enough after a while to start luring them around. I need to know if there's any pay off to collecting books? I got 22 and 4 so far.
I'd love to see more of this!
@adsilcott Well, books is kind of your score, but they also increase game difficulty(more Librarians will spawn) and rare books increase your speed.
I tried it on Chrome and Edge, and both of them were updated to the newest version...not sure why... Anyways, I downloaded it and it is a really good game! And a hard one as well! Once I was detected by the crystal, it was almost impossible to get away from it, which made me get really nervous! The background music helps build the atmosphere too. Great game!
It's really a great game! The music is good with the mood, the graphics are good too (mostly the title screen ^^) and the mood is very successful!
And the random generation of all the "dungeon" is very well done! GG!
You managed to create a very creepy atmosphere with great audio and gameplay style :) The topdown view really gives you this, almost claustrophobic feel. Kudos for making the map procedurally generated too. I wouldn't dare attempt that in such a short time! :)
Damnn, u got me right when the first "monster" appeared, their movement creeped me out XD Wont sleep very well today! The sound behind it creates the perfect atmosphere. I imagine how creepy it would be if you could only see with a lantern or a small area around the player 😱
Great game. I ended up playing chicken with the monster for the thrill of it. I don't know if I was curious or creeped out- awesome!
Really neat and fun experience! Loved the wall effects on top-down. The tearing down libraries to find the books thing is very satisfying. Died on an ambush, though :( Haha!
@goplite Was wondering how did you achieve to make the character face towards the direction you're looking at? I tried to make mine work as well, but wasn't as smooth as yours and would love to figure out what is it that I was doing wrong! :P Any chance you can share the character controller for learning purposes? 🙏
@sndr My code for ludum dare entries always is a mess, but basically it is a quaternion lerping between current rotation and rotation, facing movement vector and it's changing only if input is nonzero, that's all.
@Goplite I'll try again using lerp again and making sure I only change it when there is any input (that could've been my mistake). I'm sure without the pressure I can get it working :P Thanks!
I dont know why it had to be a crystal monster, but it made things really interesting. The overall mood of this game was pretty good. I felt unsettled when the monster entered the room or spotted me. I am not sure on how good this matches the theme though. It just felt like a good idea (and I interpreted the theme as: make something weird out of 2 themes). But that maybe just shows how wrong I was about that. I liked your game, it was a nice one
Really good use of some sounds and fantastic atmosphere. Things got really tense on occasion and the game felt les cheap than a lot of horror games. Add some meat and polish and you've got yourself $10.
I really enjoyed this. Sufficiently creeped me out with the sound, music, and that super freaky librarian. I like the world that you created. Very original but also felt like it could be related to the Hellraiser world. :P Very nice game!
If more time was put into the sprites and lighting to be a bit more atmospheric, it would be definitely "sleeping with lights on today" stuff, but still the mood is strong with this one, and the audio is very guilty of that. If you're gonna expand this into a bigger game, do some more work on the sprites and lighting, and (most importantly?) let the player explore some lore or story (in the books?) to hopefully find out what the hell is that librarian creature and what the hell happened in this library, then I'm so into your game! Controls feels smooth and comfy and librarian navigation feels very good, like you do have a chance, but still there's pretty strong sense of threat. Great work, thank you for that, I really enjoyed it!
Super freaky sound, and the way that monster rushes you really makes your heart jump in your throat - Good Work
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

The art and audio creates a really good atmosphere. I just wish I had some way to know which button opens which door and how many buttons are already pressed, to give a feeling of progression. But anyway, great game! =)
That's a really neat game! I ain't big on horror games but in this one you can really feel the tention, it's pretty well done. The sound effects for the ennemies are really good indeed - it's a shame the mastering isn't quite on par - on my computer at least. Good job anyways, I had a good time checking out your game, thanks for making it :-D
It's a cool game!
