LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Lofoten by Jonathan Whiting 2018-04-24T06:43:48Z

Woah looks cool. I like hitting the random button and watching the environment melt.

FetchQuest Rally by nuclearfriend 2018-04-24T05:22:23Z

Great voice acting! I especially love the gnome's accent and the banter, I got a kick out of it.

Legend of Zoom by pkenney 2018-04-25T02:00:37Z

I finally found you! I saw your blog post about this but forgot to follow, and I've been looking ever since! [For real, I even made a blog post about it](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shepherd-and-dog/is-there-a-search-function-on-this-website)

Hilarious concept, and I love the title! I like how the car looks like Link.

My Witch Shop (unfinished) by tinyworlds 2018-04-24T04:29:56Z

I was looking forward to the shop. I had fun blasting slimes though.

Revenge of the LuchaDorks by drtizzle 2018-04-25T22:50:24Z

Love the art, and the colors just POP! A lot of polish too and I like how you went with the burrito theme. I wish the controls were a tiny bit tighter on the platformer side (quickly tapping a button makes me move further than I'd expect), but other than that I had a lot of fun! Managed to make it to the end with just 10% health left. I hope you add more content to your game later, I would play it again.

Bouncing Cat by louis-denizet 2018-04-24T18:05:48Z

Cute game! Sometimes though, the cat clipped through the walls.

Fantastic and dangerous fishing Mr. Goose in the sea possessions of Sir Octopus by kovareka 2018-04-25T23:04:25Z

Love the art, and the colors are so vibrant! I like the idea of being a goose fishing in a boat, very cute and funny. I managed to catch a few fish.

That being said, I'd like to see maybe a scrolling bar or something horizontal for the timing. A shrinking circle is hard to judge, and I found more success pressing with what I felt was "late." Or maybe some other indicator, like how close I was? That might just be me though, so take that with a grain of salt. Also, I thought that button in the upper-left corner was a reset button, but I don't think it does anything.

Good job making a web game, and with libgdx too! I know it doesn't mean much, but I used to use it too, and as a fellow programmer, it's refreshing to see in a sea of Unity games.

Crystal Library by Goplite 2018-04-25T22:30:08Z

When I first started, I was stuck almost immediately. I might have missed the button, but I could have sworn I searched everywhere. When I restarted, I was able to make a lot of progress and had a lot of fun.

The line of sight thing is *very* cool, I love it. And the sound/music really adds to the ambience. My heart rate literally went up when I was hiding from those creatures. If you ever add more to this, I'd definitely play it. Good job!

Eggplant Kindergarten by LiquidBrain 2018-04-25T21:53:22Z

Hahaha amazing. The egglant with his seductive pose weirded me out at first, but it totally fits. Love the voice, and I love how every fun fact was true. Hilarious.

Gravity Chess by CaptainPilot 2018-04-24T17:47:48Z

Fun puzzle game. Easy to learn, and some of the puzzles really got me thinking.

I didn't get at first that chess pieces couldn't move into tiles that weren't designed for them. Maybe instead of not highlighting the square, highlight it with red or something?

BINGO FUEL by LancesCaterpie 2018-04-24T17:37:39Z

Holy smokes I think this is one of the most fun games I've played so far. It kinda reminds me of Luftrausers, but is unique in its own way. Even without the grapple hook, I like the idea of moving to the clouds to recover fuel. And once I got the the grapple hook, it was so cool. Having the game move in slow motion when trying to grapple was a good idea, as it would have been too hard otherwise. The ejecting mechanic also adds a convenient second chance without making the game too easy.

As for feedback, the first time I died, I instinctively clicked on the "RESTART" text and immediately dove into the ocean and died again. Also, there was almost no reason for me to ever stop firing when in the plane. The only time I stopped firing was to capture the required plane in mission 2, which was a cool idea.

I also like that crashing into the ship counts as a "landing," got a laugh out of that one.

BINGO FUEL by LancesCaterpie 2018-05-15T22:49:56Z

I ended up playing around 40 games, and I came back just to say this one is still my favorite. You got some pretty high ratings, congratulations!

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-04-24T17:19:52Z

Wow this is actually a really clever idea. I think it could work very well with some puzzle elements as well. With polish it could end up being a very good shooter game with a lot of thinking and strategy.

Pretty Pretty Pirates by Matt Fabius 2018-04-24T05:29:11Z

I like the stop motion, and being able to put on pretty clothes! To be honest, I couldn't tell if I was winning or losing a fight.

Oni Hunter by pataya 2018-04-28T21:43:15Z

I love the lighting and sound effects, it just looks and feels so cool to play. Puzzles provide some great brain teasers in the later levels too. The gameplay, graphics, and audio mesh together so well.

I wish there was a button you can click to restart the level. Since the entire game can be played with the mouse, it feels a little bit inconvenient I have to press 'R' on the keyboard to restart.

Match & Shoot by joekinglake 2018-04-25T23:26:24Z

I actually hadn't played a match-3 before, so I was foolishly shooting the single squares thinking I was supposed to make a big cluster lol That's my fault though.

This works surprisingly well, and I like the "reload" sound. I got hooked for a bit trying to get a high score.

I get that the bullet upgrades are to incentivize you to traverse the level, but I could ignore them for the most part. I wish there was a stronger reason to move around. 48 hours isn't a lot of time, but maybe have parts of the match-3 blocked by terrain or enemies? Just spit-balling.

I like the game, I think this could be very addicting!

Minebot by flyingbear 2018-04-25T23:41:15Z

This is a cool game, and I appreciate that the game teaches you how to play it without needing to read instructions. I felt like I immediately understood the game, and I would slowly learn extra mechanics over time. Cool tunes too.

A lot of the areas looked identical though, so I got lost pretty often.

At first I thought it was boring that you had to slowly move all the way back to the drop box so often, but then I realized you can purchase extra drop boxes. That ended up being one of my most purchased items.

Jean-Micheng VS Goblins by lo-x 2018-04-25T22:04:28Z

I like the audio, especially the clapping, felt like a real crowd cheering me on. Jumping felt very floaty, and jumping into a platform caused me to teleport above it. I think there's a lot of potential in your idea though, would love to see more without time constraints.

Sheet Music Editor Shoot'Em Up by hypp 2018-04-24T17:57:46Z

Cute game and super unique scenario! I like that you can transform between different note types, I appreciate that detail. I mostly stayed as the eight note though.

As for feedback, I think there should be some kind of penalty for letting an enemy through and reaching the other side. When I realized that I don't lose points or health for letting enemies through, I just sat on the same line and firing only when an enemy showed up at that line to get a high score.

The Fish and the Furious by Relsqui 2018-04-24T04:28:32Z

I played this game with my brother, we had fun crashing and fishing! Love me some multiplayer.

The Fish and the Furious by Relsqui 2018-05-15T23:21:01Z

Wow your innovation score is so high, congratulations! I just wanted to come back and say that after playing around 40 games, this is still one of my favorites.

Last Girl On Earth by Reality Blind 2018-04-24T04:42:48Z

I downloaded Windows zip, but the contents was an apk, no exe

Farmer 21 by Jon_Nova 2018-04-25T22:11:30Z

Oh jeez that legit spooked me. Very short, but I liked it.

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-24T05:11:53Z

Thanks everyone!

@nuclearfriend Yeah I regret not getting around to sound. I really wanted to make some dog noises!

@judy-kim If you don't have a PC, it's playable on the web browser (Chrome). Same link.

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-24T06:20:48Z

@YuukiMakoto That's a legit good idea. I'll definitely do that or something similar to make it more clear if I decide to continue the game after the jam.

@judy-kim I get stuck sometimes too X_X I used Box2D for the physics, but I didn't use it properly so it's my fault if it feels clunky, I just rushed my code too much haha. Yeah I get scared too when a wolf comes after my sheep!

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-24T19:59:15Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it feels great to know you like our game! To be honest, I haven't played Don't Starve, so I don't know what reference we made...

@dudum-lare Yeah not adding in music/sound is my biggest regret. It's a shame too, because both of us are musicians, and we love music!

@Sengi Thanks! We're brothers actually. Yeah C++ was tough and slow progress, I'll try using Unreal or Unity next time haha.

@nidup Yeah you're right the controls are a bit clunky. I was using Box2D for the first time, and I already made a lot of progress before I realized I wasn't supposed to use so many small boxes for the map :P

@Rayne Thanks, I want to continue this game too, but my future is uncertain at the moment (job hunting). One day though!

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-24T20:17:30Z

@lo-x Yess, C++ dev high-five! I guess I just like the control. No yea, the skip button is only there because of the jam. It's come in handy when a streamer played my game and they got stuck.

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-25T04:27:27Z

@PeachTreeOath Haha that dog butt is turning out very popular. I haven't played I Am Bread, but I know what you mean, and you're totally right. Actually I was thinking of giving a unique action to both the shepherd and the dog, but you know, ran out of time as per usual. I was thinking if you hold down the shoulder button, the shepherd would stand still and move sheep around him, kind of like how Olimar can choose which side the Pikmin will stand. For the dog, I was thinking something like a bite that could stun the wolves, not too sure. Again, wasn't able to design or try it out.

@pkenney Yeah those wolves are nasty. I added a timer to make the wolves back off every once in a while, just like the ghosts in the original Pac-Man, but it might be too slow for such a fast-paced game. Funny that you mention nature shows. When I was testing the wolves, I made a level with just a bunch of sheep and wolves and nothing else. The sheep clumped together but the wolves pressured them until one broke off and all the wolves started chasing it. The sheep ran for its dear life but the wolves eventually caught up. It was kinda sad, and reminded me of something David Attenborough would narrate.

The Colossal Carrot Caper by rush 2018-04-24T17:11:29Z

I had fun, definitely an interesting mashup. As others have said, the music doesn't always sync up. I also wish there was some map or other indication of where the remaining carrots are.

Gun Appetit! by Nyunesu 2018-04-24T06:04:03Z

Rad music! I like how the music even switches between genres. I think I got to around stage 4 or 5 by hiding behind the boxes. I think it would be cool to switch ammo types. Michael Jackson zombie was my favorite!

Rogue Ball by ctran13 2018-04-25T22:38:35Z

I like this idea, fits the theme very well. The player was too sluggish for my tastes, even with sprinting, but killing enemies with the ball was fun. I think you could make this into a very thrilling action game.

IDLE CLIMBER - Love Platformers but need your Idle Clicker Mania? Look no more. by HomoLudens 2018-04-24T05:07:17Z

I didn't get it at first, but then it CLICKED ;D It's very unique. I like the feeling of managing the character you play. It kinda reminds me of how I would pilot a robot or complicated vehicle. Having a friend play with me to click was fun too, as I'd shout at him to click faster.

The text was very helpful, I definitely skipped over the description at first.
