Everything about this game is so well crafted. The music, the graphics, the controls, all of it. Solid 10/10.

Very polished entry. I feel the music editor element could be explored more but overall it's a fun game!

dragonxvi 2018-04-23 17:50

This is fairly nuts :D

nilstastic 2018-04-23 19:21

This is my favourite entry so far. Very well implemented - the bouncy feeling is spot on which makes it very enjoyable to play. Good (great) work!

tommislav 2018-04-23 19:32

Wow, very polished! And all the enemy waves! It's a bit hard (or maybe I'm just not good enough), but other that that an amazing, well looking and well sounding experience!

thiago-oliveira 2018-04-23 23:23

Only thing I think could be made better is the non stop drop down from the ropes. The flow of the game is very good so as the aesthetics. (Sorry if bad english)

ehtd 2018-04-24 03:49

woah this was pretty cool, one of my favorites so far

viridiangames 2018-04-24 05:48

You're my front-runner right now. This is the rare game that is okay with few instructions; the basics are easy to pick up and you figure out more stuff (like what the note lengths do) as you go. The bounce mechanic is great and the shooting feels good. Great stuff.

Really lovely pico8 game this. I'm only here because I saw this on Twitter and thought I HAVE to play that, so clearly the graphics are great and it's an exciting twist on the theme. Spaceship has a fun springy feeling.

saoi-games 2018-04-24 07:58

I'm not sure if you saw, but I played your game on my stream tonight https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames

I love the pico8 titles that have been submitted, and this one was very polished and fun.

The best part is shooting rests at the space ships. So weird and quirky. The only complaint would be that the intro text moves by too fast to read.

Lovely! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBigr-DBUjI

This entry is a lot of fun to play and very polished. My only complaint is that it took me forever to figure out what the shoot button is. The intro text looks like is says 'X' to change weapons and 'O' (or maybe square button?) to shoot. Turns out shoot is 'C' for keyboard.

eldemarkki 2018-04-24 17:57

The theme was very well implemented here. I think the font was sometimes hard to read; too pixelated, even though I like pixel art games.

Cute game and super unique scenario! I like that you can transform between different note types, I appreciate that detail. I mostly stayed as the eight note though.

As for feedback, I think there should be some kind of penalty for letting an enemy through and reaching the other side. When I realized that I don't lose points or health for letting enemies through, I just sat on the same line and firing only when an enemy showed up at that line to get a high score.

man thats very creative, very nice concept and quite fun game, really great job!

ghust1995 2018-04-24 20:46

Great idea, super polished. It would be awesome if it was also musical while shooting the notes!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-25 02:29

Good job! Cool game!

I rate your game, if I can give a game in my game, Witch's Escape.

yay Pico-8 entries! Very cool how the sheet music lines had some bounce and physics!

vilcans 2018-04-25 21:08

Silly idea and good execution (just like a Stephen King novel). One of your best so far.

I like the physics of the lines.

rjhelms 2018-04-28 03:20

Yeah, what @vilcans said - silly idea and good execution. The physics of jumping off the staff lines are an awesome touch. Really great entry!

velocity7 2018-04-28 14:14

Nice work man. I like the idea. Its a funny little game

ropedog 2018-04-28 17:49

This is a great entry! Fun gameplay while mixing in some musicality?? Sign me up! I like that different note lengths have different abilities, and I thought they each played (ha!) well with the physics of the staff lines. I also found it pretty hilarious that the notes shoot "rests" at enemy fighters. I would have like to have seen the music part played (ha again!) out a bit more. Maybe by being able to have multiple notes at the same time, and possibly by eventually forming a song or melody idea. I'm not positive exactly how that would work, but it's just where my brain is taking me at the moment. Anyway - nice job!!

sheila-ayala-heady 2018-04-30 00:19

I love this so much. This is my favorite of this jam!

neon 2018-05-01 17:15

The graphics and the idea are beautiful, but playing is a bit annoying as I couldn't really grasp the up/down mechanic and the game feels a bit fast for me. Maybe I'm just too slow for these jams, but good game anyways

ithildin 2018-05-01 18:22

Impressive entry! The unusual blend of themes fit together fantastically, retro music was catchy and there were lots of nice tiny details here and there that made the game feel very polished.

Changing notes in a single direction was a bit challenging at times if you needed to do a full cycle, but other than this the mechanics worked great.

One of the best compo entries I've played so far. Congratulations!

jimbly 2018-05-02 14:18

My high score: 2778! Took a while to get the hang of it, but finally felt like I was doing okay. Gameplay felt super fluid which was nice. I love the take on the theme. It was sometimes too easy to drop off the bottom, seems like I often tried to drop down a couple whole steps and ended up falling to my bass clefy death.

csanyk 2018-05-10 02:06

I loved the concept and really liked the visual look of the game.

The audio was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping that the audio would be all notes played according to my position and note length on the staff, and the result would be a kind of procedurally generated song made by my actions. Instead, I just got an (admittedly not bad) standard BGM soundtrack. Oh well.

Play-wise, I found there wasn't much point to moving horizontally, and just moved up/down. This made me think that gameplay would have been better if the note moved forward at a speed determined by the time signature on the staff, a bit like an endless runner in that you don't have control over your forward motion, and this affected the speed of the oncoming alien ships. Bouncing on the top line of the staff was fun! Falling down if I held down too long was frustrating. I didn't see much point to changing the length of my note -- did this give me stronger shots for a longer note, in exchange for a longer cooldown between shots, or slower moving shots? It didn't seem like it did anything really.

Fewer ships, placed more deliberately, would have turned them into incentives to play the "right" notes, and you could have set it up in such a way that it creates a song when you play a level correctly.

All in all, lots of potential to be a very awesome game. As is, it's not bad, and I'll give you bonus points for doing it in PICO-8. Just not what I was expecting/hoping for when I saw the screen shot. But decent nonetheless. Would definitely be interested in playing follow-up releases of this.
