LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Blocks of Nibiru by LeviDSmith 2018-04-25T23:34:33Z

Love the controls. Aiming by rotating around the outside is an interesting challenge that I don't think I've seen since Tempest although that was less... aiming I think. Everything was smooth and responsive too. Nicely done.

Infernoculus by icxon 2018-04-24T03:23:33Z

Nicely made! The controls are intuitive, the gameplay is engaging, the art is amazing, there is definately depth and strategy to it. The animations are strong and the ui and feedback is clear and looks good. All of the elements work together really well too, I'm not noticing anything that distracts or takes away from the game.

BunkerDefense by UnlikelyNomad 2018-05-04T00:30:37Z

Nicely made. I like the user interface and how the command line is used. It took me a while to get the hang of it but the computer's remarks kept it really entertaining all the while. The auto naming of the drones is an awesome touch too.

Harvest Doom by Fiote 2018-04-25T23:23:32Z

Really well made but the beginning pacing seems a bit much. I can't seem to get a first request done or collect enough to build anything before dieing. Even so the interactions are very satisfying. The sound effects, animations, and UI work together really well. You have a nice aesthetic going. I do keep finding my self wanting to close the request window with esc though lol.

Don't Shoot (Visual Novel / Tac Shooter by tigerrenko 2018-04-26T01:10:02Z

Lol I like the hatsune miku music. It fits the theme of clashing genres, aside from that I like how you hit a very serious tone and kept me engaged in the narrative as short as it was. Nicely written and implemented. The hover making the selection caught me off guard the first time through but I think you could make something really engaging if you built out a full story in this.

Get Out Of My Dungeon by biobazard 2018-05-01T23:47:43Z

This is really nicely implemented. I like how intuitive and predictable yet challenging to master the controls are. Your mechanics and art work together really well and your concept fits the theme perfectly. Nice job!

Checkmate by aevek 2018-04-25T03:17:33Z

Awesome game. I like the mechanics and the pacing. I ran into an issue where one of my programs stole focus and the game lost capture of my cursor, I kept clicking applications on my other monitors lol. It was totally worth it though. Nicely done.

[VVV] - Vibrant Voxel Vengeance by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2018-05-03T23:56:29Z

Nicely done. You really sold it well with the over the top game description. Aesthetics are nicely done. The t-rex that follows you left and right looks a little unnatural. Also I didn't seem to get audio on the gamejolt html5 version. Good job on the design though. I hope you keep updating this.

Band Battle Fantasy - A Turn-Based Rhythm Game by MartinTristan 2018-04-25T22:39:25Z

This is pretty cool. Seems like you chose a pretty tough pair of genre's. I had trouble with the timing as well but I don't often play rhythm games. If you get enough similar feedback it might be worth adding a slower beginning piece (possibly optional) to help players pick up the controls. Nicely done though.

Engine in Shadow by visumecadroide 2018-04-25T23:06:19Z

Nicely done. Thats quite the challenge to drive stealthily. I kept getting caught on the geometry of other cars though.

pressspace by Michael Arcadi 2018-05-02T01:09:35Z

Wow. Really nicely designed. From the text on the background of the page to the noun icons popping up, just about everything served to support the atmosphere of the game and the story you told. I didn't see anything in particular working against it.

The one thing that stood out to me graphically was that the spacing between letters was a little inconsistent at times. Its a detail that probably won't bother most people but will make it look that much better in the end if refined. The story was really well written and told also. You might be able to increase the impact of it by changing up the music as it goes to carefully match the meaning of each sentence. Maybe using sound effects for the icon spawning that reinforce what those icons are too.

All in all this is amazingly designed and put together. Nice job.

F.P.S - Frootz per Second by Albuquerque 2018-04-25T22:49:33Z

Lol Very nice touch with the physics objects. I just which I could press the space button and shoot the thing on screen.

Type n' Jump by Richard N Silva 2018-04-26T00:52:10Z

Awesome game. That level kept the difficulty/flow curve perfectly. It would be cool to see you expand on the mechanic and maybe add multi command support as an aquired abilility. ex. "left jump" or gradually introduce more actions. This mechanic could have a lot of depth.

Also very nicely done on the aesthetics, animation, and on the feel or the feedback the game gives the player. Working the tutorial hints into the level was a nice touch too. Well done.

Spin.ENG.RefleX by bunnybreaker 2018-05-02T00:43:16Z

Very nice. I like how the game speeds up and encourages you to really learn to quickly recall the associations between word and type. I'd like to find something like this for math. The UI and background work well to support the concept and mechanics and don't distract from the gameplay at all. It kept my eyes fixed on the arrow and quadrant labels each time I'd finished reading the next word.

I didn't notice the audio feedback when selecting the part of speech my first time playing. It might be worth refining them a bit to make them a bit more noticeable. Maybe making them slightly louder or giving them a little more contrast from the background music? It's good that it goes with the music well and it doesn't demand all of your attention though.

Nicely done.

Spike-Stricken Love by bigda 2018-05-04T00:19:43Z

The moment to moment pacing is great and the aesthetic and audio work together to set the tone well. I like the amount of challenge in avoiding and hitting specific spikes and how it leaves moments of just the right length for you to read the bit of narrative, choices, and feedback. Unfortunately I couldn't seem to get past the first choice. Nice Job though. Keep up the good work.

Adventure Pong by TomPK7 2018-04-27T04:05:33Z

@blushine Thanks! Extra verbs and commands was a feature I wanted to add but wound up cutting to keep scope down. If I come back and update it after the jam I'll have to add those and build out the system further to better to tie how you hit it to the opponents chance of returning it. I was also considering adding a max number of returns so that you couldn't get stuck in a round that takes way too long.

Also I'm not sure what might have happened with the server. Everything appears to be available from here and its a third party host. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for letting me know.

Adventure Pong by TomPK7 2018-04-28T01:49:46Z

@blushine I managed to recreate the issue or at least something similar. It looks like there was an issue with the way my subdomain was setup and it was going down intermitantly for rather short stretches of time. The download would have still worked since it was on the main domain. I've moved the project over to where the main files are kept and pointed the subdomain url at it so hopefully it'll be stable now.

If anyone else runs into this, please let me know so I can look further into it. I'll also post a secondary link without using the subdomain url at all as a backup.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback you've given so far.

Adventure Pong by TomPK7 2018-05-02T02:34:08Z

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.

@LeviDSmith I was rather attached to the idea of using the placeholder text on the input field as the vehical for delivering tutorial information. I was thinking about building that out further and adding hints and/or meta-remarks to each of the gamestates and maybe having them vary the wording each round.

@Richard N Silva Lol yes! I should have watched that show for inspiration while working on this. xD It's been quite awhile since I've heard mention of that one.

Also, in case anyone reads through the comments and cares about it, I removed the original main link because the subdomain is still causing issues. I'm just hosting it as a directory under my main site now. Sorry to anyone who may have run into the 'site cannot be reached' error.
