I think your link is broken
Dead Link Sir
Can you try again guys? It should be okay now!
worked for me. I lost tho. I seem to be quite bad at rhythm games :D are you supposed to press the buttons in a rhythm? are skill/item/escape working
Unfortunately, items, skills and escape were not implemented.
On an idea level the game sounds great and considering the time frame well executed. However for me it was really hard the play the rhythm game with the background music track & SFX when hitting a note made the actual rhythm track you were supposed to listen muddy :/ Great idea and good sounds, I like the mechanics a lot! I think improving the sound & music balance during Rock section would make a huge difference :)
Wow the music was awesome, and the voice indeed made my ears bleed a lot. Fun game though i found it difficult don't know if i suck but the lapse of time when you are supposed to hit the key is hard to nail. My game is also inspiring by the metal music universe (at some point). Maybe the hero of my game went at the concert of yours, it's fun to think that way.
i think if this was a more complete game with equipment, bosses, levels n such i might actually try to get good at rhythm games Really good idea, had fun failing :P
Yeah! Turn-based battle of the bands -- I love it! The timing made it really hard to progress, but I want more of this awesome concept :)
Hi guys! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I know the timing really sucks I wish I had more time to fine tune it. Glad you liked it!
THIS IS CRAZY HARD XD
Timing windows could definitely be widened a bit, but still a neat concept. I don't really understand where the turn-based came in to play though :(
@Karai17 Thanks for playing. Yeah the timing was really way off. It's turn-based because you have to wait for your time bar to fill up before you can play the next part of the music. The crowd also has their own time bar (not visible on screen) and when their time bar is full, their crowd meter (the vertical meter on the right) goes down. That is, while you are waiting for your turn, the crowd is losing interest and gets bored. Our original plan was to include skills and items that you can use to increase the crowd meter but sadly, those didn't make it :(
It's always interesting to see how games were envisioned, then chopped down to meet the time constraints, haha. Our game had to drop the collectables and "story" to meet the deadline, heh.
I think that it could have been really good, unfortunately, it's complicated to see the genre mixing here. I think that, waiting between partitions, isn't really a turn based game. But, reading what the game should be, I clearly see where the mix is, and it's a excellent idea ! It's a shame that you couldn't implement all the feature you talked about, really, nice game. The singing made my ears bleed, but it was fun to play. A bit hard with the timing, but hey, only 72h, not blaming you here.
Nice game though
This is pretty cool. Seems like you chose a pretty tough pair of genre's. I had trouble with the timing as well but I don't often play rhythm games. If you get enough similar feedback it might be worth adding a slower beginning piece (possibly optional) to help players pick up the controls. Nicely done though.
I am a big final fantasy fan so I was totally here for that. As someone already said, at this stage the mechanics do not feel much like turn based rpg but the idea is nice. Also nice music ;) And I totally failed! ^^
@Sabeurre Thanks for playing! Actually, you and the crowd take turns. They have their own turn time bar and mostly when it's their turn, they get bored and the crowd meter goes down. I was planning to add some more crowd actions like throwing tomatoes or something but unfortunately for this jam, i utterly failed in scoping the project!
Very cool concept to have the "band vs crowd" dynamic in a JRPG battle format! Unfortunately I'm pretty bad at rhythm games, and most of my games were GAME OVER in literally about four seconds after my attempt to rock began. I tried a bunch of times and managed to get to the start of the vocals once, but I never made it to the crowd's second turn. Ha, yea I'm that bad!
Dug the concept and art though.. wish I could have tried further into the game!
Thanks @pkenney!
Cool concept! The music was nice, as well as the graphics and comic-vibe. If the music was synced to the rhytm, it would have been much better. As a musician, I probably would have had better luck with the sound off, because I kept wanting to play to the song, not to the timing of falling "notes". I'm sure the syncing would be hard to pull off (not sure I'd want to try). Hopefully you keep working on this game, as I'd love to come back to a more-polished version of it!
Great concept!
The music is absolutely awesome! I was laughing really hard here, for some reason your art style also gave me I little bit of a nostalgic feeling. The only thing I have to complain about is the typing check, which I felt a little bit off, I think that the precision of the notes and the feedback for missing them ( or playing right) should be reinforced.
Overall it is a great and very funny entry! Keep up the good work guys!
I enjoyed the game, unfortunately found it very difficult to get far into the song, though I am terrible at rhythm games D:
thanks everyone! this is actually the first time I made a rhythm game so I kinda broke one of the rules of game jams "Stick to what you know" (I can't remember where I've read that...)
Haha I couldn't get far in the song, but I liked the graphics and animations. Song was great too, however I couldn't do anything in the waiting phase, or I could unlock items and skills etc. Maybe a bug? Still great game, very good for two days!
Nice Idea, I really like the crowd animations, bad that I suck at rythm games :)
Difficult rhythm game is difficult. It has lovely animations and sounds and it is responsive. However some more punchy feedback on hitting notes would have helped. Often times it felt like I missed notes even when I hit them.
The rythm part was challenging and well adjusted to the kickass audio. Seems that the waiting section doesn't add a gameplay element and the console rpg system could have more rocking options. It feels like the base mechanics to a much bigger game. Keep on!
alright the game is pretty sweet, nice graphics good sound. great concept...but the controls man, it seemed like it ididn't want to acknowledge even though it looked like it was in the box. that was frustrating, either i'm really bad or it's really really hard.
I really like the idea you were going for, and I had a few laughs at the lyrics, but the unsynchronized background was a big turnoff for me. I liked the instrumentation a lot, though I think the vocals are a bit unfitting. I wish you had more time to work on the game, since it seems like you had a lot of great ideas that got cut due to time constraints.
It's cool!So many rhythm game in this jam.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

The audio actually aligns with the rhythm game. That's great!
