LD37 — One room

One piece in one room by fufi 2016-12-18T15:13:00

I loved the idea of representing full stories in this simplified way... I just wish there was a way to keep track of the interactions with mouse click selection instead of mouse over, because they keep walking out of my cursor. Great game anyway!

Syrtet by hellforge 2016-12-15T00:30:00

It seems to be buggy after the first retry - the pieces fall super fast at the beginning, and once I was thrown way up and the pieces stopped falling. But nice idea / game name :-)

LD42 — Running out of space

Polygon Bash by josehzz 2018-08-15T04:12:08Z

Not only this is fun, but also it looks beautiful :-)

Squirrel's Revenge by AXaViaN 2018-08-16T11:52:51Z

This game is nuts! :)

But seriously now: I like that the machines are almost unstoppable (although for flavor purposes this is kinda sad), because it fits better the theme of space running out.

Running from ⭐⭐Space⭐⭐ by sobakaduka 2018-08-23T01:08:45Z

I think this game has a lot of potential, although I found it hard to land anywhere, haha

Also: My SO saw me playing this and they said they'd love to play something like this in VR... and I do agree with them :) (not that we have any VR system on PC...)

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-14T03:36:39Z

Thanks for the comments! @sylvie and @bilzc10 I was so focused on adding content that I ended up not adding a retry option, although I do intend to make a "post-mortem" version after the jam and this is one of the things I'll add to it. Also, the web version was done in a hurry (because I remembered it would be easier for people to play it than to download the Windows one), so it still says "Press [esc] to quit" which only makes sense on the Windows version.

@Bilzc10 about enemies being easy, there's at least one exception: the "Sunship". It's a rare enemy that moves in an orbit and shoots fire in 8 directions.

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-14T03:42:20Z

Oh, and the pun "Despacito" / "The Espacito" was the first thing that came to my mind - the whole game came after that. Something like "I bet 'espacito' means 'small space' in Spanish... so maybe a game where the available space gets shorter... in space?"

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-15T10:55:44Z

@oats thanks for your comments. I agree there should be more balancing, but bear in mind that the number and variety of enemies scales with the score, so although at first you don't need to move that much, eventually things get chaotic... Because of this, staying at the place the points home in becomes a risk VS reward situation.

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-16T17:45:52Z

@starhacker I do want to do more work on it, to be released after the jam. I don't know if I will add feedback for the laser movement, though, because I like the way the enemies can distract the player from them. Maybe a delayed feedback... Like after 1s of movement your "radar" alerts you or something. Anyway, thanks for your feedback - when I get home I'll check your game as well :)

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-16T17:59:19Z

@pixeljerry thanks for your comment :) I still can't believe how nice the ship ended up looking, since it was my first time trying to draw better pixel art. I made the laser eye ships on Friday night, then I googled for some pixel art tips and made the player ship and other sprites on Saturday/Sunday.

About the power-ups, I had plans (and made sprites) for at least 2 more of them, but time was short... I'll try to work on these and other things for a "post-jam" release.

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-16T22:55:26Z

@nam-nguyen thanks for playing, and sorry for the loud sounds, I guess my TV volume was too low so I didn't notice how loud it was. I'll have to check the yellow ship, but all the loot drops should follow the same logic: start at random points around the place the enemy was, and start moving with constant speed towards the point the player was at the time of death (so the player has a chance to catch them, but still requiring some effort if there are more enemies around).

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-17T01:41:10Z

@nam-nguyen oh, you mean the orange/red ship. Yes, that one was supposed to be harder than the other enemies (I put one at the beginning just to make things more intense).

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-27T21:23:02Z

Thanks for your comment, @vfabien21. I'm at work right now, but I'll check your game later at home. About variety, I'm trying to make a more complete post-jam version, to be released later on gamejolt (I could upload it along the ldjam version but I want to avoid confusion, so I'll wait until the voting period ends). I've put the most recent webgl build on http://scardua.net/the-espacito in case you're interested.

The Espacito by Wendel Scardua 2018-08-29T06:53:01Z

To anyone reading this: I've decided to post current and future post-jam versions on Game Jolt - the main package is still the LD42 version (at least until the event ends), the secondary package being the up-to-date version, both having appropriate titles to avoid confusion.

BLOCKADE by PixelJerry 2018-08-16T12:05:30Z

Nice game, loved the character :) Do your team intend to keep working on it after the jam?

Useless trivia: My LD41 entry (Claustroom) was also about walking over a Match-3 puzzle, but it was a 3D FPS instead of a platformer...

Finger Noodles by vfabien21 2018-08-29T06:48:40Z

This game has potential as a party game - or as part of one larger party game :)

Loved the way the game asked me not to cheat, hahaha

Keyboard warrior by ango97 2018-08-17T02:31:17Z

I love everything about this... except my own lack of skills to play this :) (my high-score was about 2500).

DE/VOID by randomphantom 2018-08-17T17:56:40Z

This is really cool, mainly how you take a simple mechanic and improve on it as the levels go by...

Damage Control by nolanfa 2018-08-17T02:44:14Z

This game reminds me of some kind of cellular automata... One suggestion I have: the tutorials for 'who-eats-who' should make clearer that, for example, the hawk eats all the other animals instead of only foxes.

Ouch! by Zachary Shah 2018-08-17T04:43:38Z

Cool game, reminds me of Bit.Trip Void (I'm a fan of the Bit.Trip saga). The things I'd criticize were already said by the others: a high score would be nice :)

Crash·Data by Jkabuto 2018-08-17T02:16:39Z

The game over error screen, with sound, was really awesome! Also, I had to facepalm myself because at first I didn't notice those things inside the files were trojan horses, hahaha.

Soggy Bunny by rexpeppers 2018-08-14T04:24:14Z

I loved this puzzle :) (but also I almost gave up at the last level, haha). I'm intrigued by this puzzlescript language, never heard about it before.

Soggy Bunny by rexpeppers 2018-08-14T04:51:52Z

@rexpeppers thanks for the link :)

SpaceLab 42 by Wassim 2018-08-27T20:48:56Z

@vfabien21 I went to check the comment you mentioned... And it's exactly the same they posted for mine (down to the typo on their URL). Probably they're copy-pasting it everywhere, which is both shady and kinda sad :(

OPEN-ME.ZIP by Adam Harms 2018-08-23T01:31:46Z

Great entry... Also: I didn't expect all those feels from a jam game ;_;

Zerg Coming! by hdmmy 2018-08-17T04:33:56Z

Wow, the swarm movements are pretty cool! (just played it after reading your post about pathfinding)

LD42 - GraveWorld by Azo 2018-08-16T12:16:57Z

Really cool models :)

Last Shot by jeke 2018-08-16T19:43:09Z

I like the idea, and that it actually works on mobile. Unfortunately I'm really bad at playing it, couldn't even reach the first planet, hahaha.

I thought about doing "fake but more fun gravity" for my game, but with the short time I had I too just did an "almost real gravity" instead. (two enemies have movement around some specific focus, as if there was a massive object there; I just apply the gravitation law's acceleration every fixed update). And like you said, maybe "cartoony" gravity would work better in both cases.

Interestingly I've just read a blog post here about someone using a realistic 3d black hole on their game, and then changing it to a cartoon-like effect because it didn't feel nice for game purposes.

Last Shot by jeke 2018-08-16T20:29:59Z

@jeke thanks for the pro-tip, I've managed to get to the first planet at least :)

WearOut by Abhis1Kadian 2018-08-30T00:30:06Z

I like how the drawing looks bad and good at the same time, and loved the humor. Like the others said, the gameplay has some issues (for me it turned into "just press W until you get tired"), but it has some potential. I hope your team is enjoying your first jam and keep participating in the next ones.

Space Invasion by Nam Nguyen 2018-08-23T02:02:52Z

Loved everything about this, the mechanics, the humor, even the "impossible" level :D

Trash Mage by Mustiman 2018-08-16T03:23:45Z

Is this what they call a "killer app"? :-)

I think everyone already said what I was going to comment: other than some tweaking of the controls it's a nice game (buy why is the browser called "Baron"?)

Trash Mage by Mustiman 2018-08-16T11:06:50Z

@anarchid oh, that makes more sense :)

ChromeStuck by Inferture 2018-09-04T18:56:24Z

I can't play it because I'm not home right now but I just wanted to ask, out of curiosity: Is your game title a reference? I do intend to play it at home later because the idea seems interesting, but it'll be too late for me to be able to vote on it :(

ChromeStuck by Inferture 2018-09-04T20:08:42Z

@inferture Nice :) For my entry it was the opposite thought process, first the name came to my mind and then I created the whole game around it.

Oh, and I see you checked my game... (thanks for your comment btw). If you get to play my post-jam version you may notice some HS references in it :) (and it does have a retry button now!)

Fluffy Tile World by sylvie 2018-08-14T04:47:20Z

I wish the character could walk a little bit faster, but other than that this is a really cool take on this puzzle genre...

We Have Important Work To Do by Five Side Studios 2018-08-17T03:57:25Z

The ads were great, sometimes I had to click them just to see what they did. But I got confused because one of the ads were in portuguese - I'm from Brazil and the game surely couldn't have detected that, so what gives?

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Mr. Cheeks Sweet Dreams by MrTroy 2020-10-06T06:36:56Z

Nice touch with the "Boo" made of spikes near the end :)

Stuck In Paris by CocaPasteque 2020-10-06T13:37:50Z

You were right with the "more explosions -> more fun", haha

I also loved the title screen, with the programmers' ads and the menu / high scores being part of the world.

I'll try playing more later, but I don't think I'll manage to reach level 20 (my best until now was level 3)

Debugger by wdebowicz 2020-10-13T21:32:25Z

Neat concept :) For bonus points you could remake the game as an actual IDE plugin in the future (were I more fluent in elisp, I'd try an Emacs demake)

Strange Loop by Joel Davis 2020-10-18T01:50:42Z

I like how you expanded Slitherlink to 3D surfaces - I suppose the hints where represented by pictures so they can make sense regardless of the puzzle orientation, it's a nice touch.

I wish there was some say to zoom in and out, otherwise some shapes are too hard to nagivate (torus, suzanne). Also, I would be nice to have some music, or at least some sound effects.

Arcade Legend by Samuli 2020-10-12T01:53:17Z

I loved your game! Good to see that I wasn't the only crazy one to make a ROM for a game jam :)

The ending was funny, but it reminded me that I never tried to challenge the elite gamer. I'll have to replay the game to check that later.

...

And I can't believe that only now - while writing this comment - I understood why there was a cat asking for a cheeseburger :face_palm:

Bob in Wonderland by smbe19 2020-10-12T08:53:30Z

I liked both the game art (don't know if it was intended but it reminds me of xkcd) and the "Computer Science paper" style of the description (which, in a roundabout way, reminds me of xkcd as well).

Unfortunately the game froze in the middle of the last loop, while I was pushing a crystal, so I couldn't finish it.

Periphery by agentparsec 2020-10-18T20:27:21Z

Great puzzle game, I like your music in general and the one here is not an exception :)

The Toroidal Tower by nanolotl 2020-10-16T21:24:58Z

The 1-bit graphics is good, and the "flipbook" thing was a nice touch. I haven't finished it yet, but I'll keep trying later.

Tempus Locus by MSiddeek 2020-10-20T14:23:58Z

I think yours was the most innovative take on this "interacting-with-past-selves action puzzle" sub-genre I've seen on this LD. I'll have to try getting the other end later.

Edit: just got the bad ending as well

Danger Castle by bwalter 2020-10-12T22:24:03Z

Nice roguelike, and it's cool how you managed to represent everything in with so few pixels :)

BULLETS FROM THE PAST by Cambryx 2020-10-07T18:56:37Z

So, instead of a bullet hell, you decided to make a bullet purgatory? (or maybe, a bullet reincarnation cycle) :)

Some details I really liked: the music progression (it reminds me of a song from a certain webcomic's OST that does this thing with loops that keep adding instruments), and the way the time and health indicators are part of the scenario (with 413 bullets flying around I wouldn't want to have to look outside the area to check these things).

I think the tutorial could've mentioned that long shots deal more damage - I know, I should've noticed because the bullet effect gets larger, but for a while I was confused about why some enemies died in one shot while others took two. Maybe it's more like a bug between the keyboard and the chair, haha.

Anyway, amazing game! (I'm still trying to beat the high score, but my best is still Round 10)

Golem Quest by celia14 2020-10-25T19:02:50Z

I like how you managed to make a magical version of the "character-following-looping-commands" subgenre, where others usually went by a "programming a robot" route. The art is really cute :)

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-05T22:45:41Z

@rhornbek is it something that can be fixed? (like, it was too easy to dodge, or too hard so it became impossible to win, etc?) I ask because there's a "one game per month" jam that will use the same theme for this month, and I may reuse this game for it..

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-06T06:19:32Z

@zashers I tried to make the difficulty self-balancing: as the end of the game approaches, both the player and the music get faster (so the slow music is kind of a penalty itself), which would increase the risk of collision. Unfortunately the way I coded the change of speed I could only slow it by a factor of 2, so at the slowest it is much slower than I wanted it to be.

About the counter-intuitive goal: at first I thought to make the game a normal "infinity runner" where the goal is to survive the longest, but with the theme being "stuck in a loop" I thought a more appropriate goal would be to escape from being stuck there as soon as possible.

(Maybe I'll re-reverse the goal before submitting to the other - monthlong - jam I'm participating)

Thanks for your comments :)

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-06T16:48:29Z

@stefan-b sorry for not making it more clear in-game (in my defense I did wrote all that in the description :) ), thanks for playing it!

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-07T16:13:14Z

@minibetrayal I agree, the RNG is a double-edged sword: sometimes it's impossible to survive, sometimes you can run in circles on the same track and win with no effort. I did have plans for some tweaking that would make for a more balanced game, but I almost ran out of time. But I'll try something for the next, post-jam version.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-08T02:05:17Z

@sophiemae0 I'd love to put a tutorial. Unfortunately I ran out of time, and at least for this game, I had to write most of the text by hand, pixel by pixel. Note to self: I should make some kind of font tool for the NES.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-08T02:28:18Z

@mrbamboo cool! I'm thinking about trying SNES dev in the future as well. I've been learning and making NES games since March, and if I'm not mistaken the compiler I use supports SNES asm as well.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-09T16:30:54Z

@eldar in a way you're not really wrong. The goal of the game (escaping in the shortest time in a single game session) can be trumped by the metagame, which is simply restarting the game until you run into a more favorable game session. I made the goal like that in order to fit the theme, but I can't really keep the player stuck in the loop if they can simply reset the console  (or as someone did, simply using the emulator's save/load feature)

Maybe I should've had reversed the goal at the price of not fitting the theme as much as possible; maybe I should try at least making this an option in the post-jam version.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-10T02:28:44Z

@etrealjunior there's no problem with the game, you simply skipped the description both here and on itch :) Please read the description, then try again.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-11T02:26:23Z

> First - the top and bottom crops in the outer track difficulties the readbility of the game state - also considering that is a reflex game with limited graphics/animations/transitions and found a little frustrating and this deeply weighted in cognitive spawn.

Oh, I know what you're talking about, @edugpinheiro ... It's (partially) the emulator's fault: some emulators cut the first and last few rows of pixels of the screen, because some CRT TVs did that as well. I forgot about it because the emulator I was using during development, Mesen, didn't do that.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-11T02:29:10Z

@edugpinheiro also, there is some complexity sure, but the basics of it can be learned from this online book: https://book.famicom.party (even though it's still unfinished)

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-12T00:10:03Z

@ursagames I'm watching the video right now (I missed the stream), thanks for playing it

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-12T00:59:58Z

@samuli I can't believe I forgot to test on my NES, nice to see that it worked fine :)

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-12T10:23:39Z

> as I know development for NES is *not fun*

@bentglasstube I guess "fun" is relative, because I am having fun learning and making these NES games :)

(you may want to check my other ones at wendelscardua.itch.io)

> At first I was annoyed because I couldn’t tell what was good to hit and what was bad but it turned out everything was bad

Yeah, between the color choices and lack of in-game instructions I'm seeing why people miss that. I tried compensating by putting instructions in the description - and then by highlighting the important parts - but I guess the visuals strongly suggest that some things are good and others are bad.

This is something that I'll have to fix on a postjam version... There's a local one-game-a-month jam reusing the LD theme, and I intend to submit this game there as well.

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-13T16:17:52Z

@initialposition I remember that! I loved the frantic movement, hahaha

Ouroboros by Wendel Scardua 2020-10-13T20:54:25Z

@javasaurus hey, that "earlier comment" you said that "got lost"? I just found it by sheer luck - it's on this other game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/loop-stuck

(I was confused for a moment with your comment about "valid NES game" on a game that had nothing to do with it)

Loop Heart by NeithR 2020-10-08T02:39:59Z

This one was so cute, really nice how much was done with such a small palette

Princess stop the princes by winniehell 2020-10-09T17:39:16Z

I love the stained glass art style; also, congratulations on making this game so funny, starting by that mute button at the beginning :)

I found it weird that the intro explains the unicorns, but not the other buttons. Also, it would be nice to have a Retry button on the Game Over screen.

Jump 'n Loop by invader 2020-10-17T16:44:01Z

Small issue I had: after finishing the last level the game just stopped - I think it should at least return to the main menu. Also, in "Running" thought the jump sfx was way too loud compared to the background music, I think it would be nicer if they had similar volumes.

Other than that, it was a really nice rhythm game :)

Dude Ranch by ColeSlaughter 2020-10-12T02:37:00Z

Great art style! Took me a while to get the relation with the them but then the penny dropped :)

One thing I'd nitpick: at least on the WebGL version, the mouse cursor was free to move out of the game, so I ended up clicking outside after lassoing a dude.

Ludum Fair by AlexHicks 2020-10-09T22:46:30Z

This is one of the most unique takes on the theme I've seen around here :)

Managed to enter the high score at 1min26s

River Express by ProdigalSon 2020-10-19T18:00:25Z

Cool puzzles with a nice progression. To avoid the "build mode" I think it would be better to change the instructions based on which mode is currently active. Like, when in build mode, the controls box would tell about "WASD" and "R", and in play mode it would tell about "Space" and "R" buttons.

Roundabout Way by Quandtm 2020-10-06T07:05:15Z

Loved everything about this, the music, the aesthetics, being able to see the chaos unfold at the Uh Oh screen :)

My first time - after many crashes - was 01:06, later I did it in 00:35.575, abd I guess I'll keep this tab open to keep playing later

Pip's Journey by JemSmith 2020-10-16T15:54:59Z

I liked how you managed to turn chess into an adventure, I found some bugs but still managed to reach the end. I'd love to see a full game like this.

Time Crash by Gonzalol 2020-10-10T16:44:10Z

I liked the difficulty progression, how the game starts simple and then later it throws lots of similar shapes :)

(my high score was 25)

Unholy Echo by Dizzy 2020-10-07T21:33:02Z

The book giving indirect hints was a nice touch. Also, I really liked the art!

PS: I must confess I tried attacking the mirror at the end to try avoiding my fate

Phil Alone by Gabriel Dias Oliveira de Almeida 2020-10-07T02:44:04Z

Could you post some spoilers somewhere? I've managed to do lots of stuff, but I feel like I'm still missing something. For example, I got the "Luke Inn..." and "...your room" clues, but I don't know if this is about stuff I had already found in the room or not; and I think I tried everything with the clock and the magazines, but it didn't seem to change anything. Will the true ending stop the loop?

I'll keep trying later, anyway. Congrats for making such intriguing game...

StarHamster 64 by Zashers 2020-10-06T06:49:21Z

> Post your final health total to see how you stack up against others!

Unfortunately my final health total was zero because I'm bad at this kind of game, but I loved it anyway :) (at least I've managed to play for one loop... I'll try more later, I want to see more of the story)

Bee, leave it or knot by Hanra 2020-10-08T18:11:13Z

Maybe the issue isn't much that 60 bees are too much, but that we lose all of them on the smallest mistake.

I liked the pun in the game name, sometimes my game jam ideas come from puns :)

MonkeyVM by abvadabra 2020-10-06T16:17:28Z

I loved both the puzzle and the aesthetics - and it reminds me that I still haven't played Shenzhen IO

Crash Thunderstud Returns by JavaSaurus 2020-10-17T17:02:51Z

I loved everything here, the humor, the game play, the pixel art and its animation, the writing and recording of Crash's lines - all that must've took a lot of DEADication :)

Ring Rush by blotosaur 2020-10-09T21:20:19Z

An innovative take on the theme, but I didn't get what causes the change of the circle (this circle change kept killing me in one of the levels)

Light footsteps after the rain by Chocolat-Endive 2020-10-07T17:55:53Z

The memory we type, is that sent to you? Not that it matters, I felt like writing something even if it was just for me - and I don't even like writing, that's how much I liked your game. Thanks for making it.

Time Loop by _Kassjak_ 2020-10-09T22:23:48Z

I liked the concept, and the pixel art with limited palette :)

The only thing I'd complain is that any key can be used to leave the game over screen. Given I was pressing lots of keys while playing I kept going past that screen back to the title, so I have no idea what my high score was

Time Wizards by Sininenblue 2020-10-09T17:57:24Z

Finished in 8:30:5 (and then 2:36:3 after seeing the comments about wall jumping out of the pit), great pixel art and animations.

Ebontale by JUSTCAMH 2020-10-11T02:20:34Z

I really really loved this one - even though there were too many bosses, seeing Piamont City was worth it all. ;)

WhileLoops by Ausstein 2020-10-10T16:26:18Z

I love a lot of things here: the humor, the metalanguage, the risk/reward thing where sometimes you have to lower a variable (or even the score!) in order to keep the system working...

PS: as someone said above, playing fullscreen on a 21:9 screen causes some popups to appear out out reach.

Hiccup Time by Somogy 2020-10-07T22:01:24Z

The hiccup mechanic was very innovative. The only thing I didn't like is that the spike corridor is really frustrating :( There could be at least a lever to turn the spikes off on the other side of the corridor, like the one near the red fountain. (or I should just get good at the game, haha)

Hiccup Time by Somogy 2020-10-07T23:48:39Z

@ericbolseiro the problem is not going back through the corridor (oh thank [insert divinity here] for the teleporting!), but if a monster takes the red potion you have to go through the corridor in the original direction again.

Hiccup Time by Somogy 2020-10-11T00:12:22Z

Maybe @pov can help, they may be able to remove the Audio/Graphics categories. (I'm not sure but I think I saw something similar happening with another game)

Oops Loops by michaelaranda 2020-10-12T11:11:04Z

The card mechanic is fun and the platforming itself is great... I only wish there was some suicide/restart button because I got stuck inside a hole

The Island by kuviman 2020-10-12T19:05:38Z

I had played it a little before, tried playing again today. There's some lag (I guess it may be because I'm too far away) but I went as far as making the raft and later a golden pickaxe - couldn't find any magical rock to apply the golden pickaxe to it, though. Also, I found out that the statue doesn't like pebbles, I seem to have decreased the score go from 15 to 14, sorry

I like how the movement seems to be grid-based and yet the grid isn't apparent - I spent some time moving the pentagon-shaped cursor around my character, trying to understand this invisible grid :)

Racecar racecaR by Russ Moonbase 2020-10-12T15:36:43Z

I liked the idea a lot, but I'm not a fan of the physics - it didn't need to be perfect, but I wish curves weren't so impossible to make.

Good Morning, Beautiful World by Miyolophone 2020-10-10T17:21:05Z

I'm a big fan of time travel stories, this one was really fun to play/read. I know it probably wasn't intended but thanks for letting me drink my frilly strawberry drink after the "THE END" :) (I totally forgot it was in the inventory until then)

Pillars of Anguish by Outfrost 2020-10-07T23:46:07Z

Finished with 108 deaths, and as I said on the stream I really hated your game in a good way :)

"10/10 would be bullied for taking a plasma ball in my face again"

Lucky Lefty Loves Loops by TheBookSnail 2020-10-06T15:45:16Z

39.93, at least it's a palindrome

So, the meaning of the universe is that it is made of snails all the way down? Anyway, very cute recursive snail :)

Swop by igaryhe 2020-10-12T14:34:28Z

Just finished playing, and I liked the concept of the puzzle. In particular, it's nice how Level 1 teaches two important rules at once - the swapping when the next tile is right beside the bubble, and the traveling followed by swapping when the next tile is far away.

It slightly bothered me that the rule presented by Level 2 - that the player can move while the bubble is moving and this isn't a turn-based game - wasn't needed in any other level. But this is only me nitpicking, really, it's a great game overall!

Lazy River Racing by sacredbacon 2020-10-08T13:41:41Z

I did enjoy the water shader :)

I liked how even with the lack of collision with the walls the game didn't let me cheat my way to victory.

Break the Loop by XeduR 2020-10-08T17:45:28Z

Cool way to match the theme, there being even a "meta loop" from the last level back to the first :)

It just took me a few moments to get the `sub` function, but that's more a "me" problem; my first thought was substitution instead of substring because I use Ruby at work. Playing with the arguments and checking the output made easy to solve the level anyway (in hindsight I could've googled for lua docs )

Hangin' Around by Nocity 2020-10-16T18:37:45Z

Both fun and funny! I like the addition of a "challenge mode" after ending the normal game (my best score was 9)

Fearcle by Jupperevie 2020-10-11T01:48:57Z

Just finished playing your game... The art was nicely done. Also, I liked the puzzles and how they were connected to the horror in the game, like that part when you flip a switch and suddenly you start hearing a monster running towards you, but nothing actually happens; somehow that was more scary than if the monster had simply appeared there.

Infinity - 1 by Potato Imaginator 2020-10-19T04:10:52Z

I really like this infinity mechanic (I've played until level 5, because it's 1a.m. right now)

I'd love to see a full game like this, with more puzzles :)

Loop Stuck by Kirby 2020-10-13T20:51:54Z

Finished after seeing it on Outfrost's stream - that one level is really hard (and I don't know if the reversed version of the level has different hitboxes but it felt even harder). But the humor in the writing was good, and I liked how

Congrats on making your first jam game :)

Tomb of the Mummy RL by Eldar 2020-10-08T03:45:09Z

Cool roguelike! By coincidence I've resumed playing NetHack recently, it's nice that this uses the same movement keys (don't know if this come for free from the RL engine or not)

A tale of Loopism by Pomo 2020-10-11T00:04:52Z

loopism.png

Finally finished your game - and wow it was hard! (I don't think the time on the screenshot is accurate, though - I had left the game open for a while to do some stuff)

My SO saw me when I was stuck at the part where I got the arms, they asked "what is this, 'Spider-man from Hell'?"

The dialogs were really funny. It seems that while in Portal the cake was a lie, here the [REDACTED] was true

Hyper Hamster by Nazorus 2020-10-06T14:04:53Z

"Hyper! Hyper! Hamster!"

I really liked the effects used to give the sense of speed - the speed lines and the hyperspeed camera

Re:Live by Ciber_Turtle 2020-10-10T04:20:56Z

I've played until level 2-4 and not only I liked the puzzles, but I've really appreciated the small details as well, like the character's costumes.

Sisyphus Beetle Takes His Daughter to Work by pee-thief 2020-10-17T17:29:16Z

The only problem with this game is that there aren't enough Dung Bettle Dad Jokes (tm) :) The art is really cute.

Re-Slash by Croxel Studios 2020-10-09T23:12:14Z

Great concept :) Only thing I missed was some way to know the length of the recording, but even without that it's a good game.

Quantum Split by InitialPosition 2020-10-17T20:53:52Z

The last puzzle was so clever, it was really satisfying to solve it. I like how much detail you packed in so few pixels, like the lighting of the buttons or the warning stripe on the moving platform.

Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-11T14:45:20Z

Cool arcade game, nice spin (pun intended) on the genre with the defense being the only attack :) (I'm bad at it, though, my high score was 21k)

NeonLoop by aDaxxas 2020-10-07T02:59:50Z

I really liked the mechanic, reminds me of some bullet hell games

Cycle Breakdown by TheJohnyFeeD 2020-10-08T00:57:11Z

Your game is amazing! And it felt so good when I finally noticed the boss "tell" and defeated them (I died a lot before that).

Orbit by DaSpikeyBoss 2020-10-09T17:24:23Z

Nice arcade game, one thing I'd nitpick is that maybe the camera should be a little farther, so we could see the enemy ships better (I liked the back shield, but it was hard to point it to the enemies direction when they were all attacking me off-screen).

Loop of Shapes by IronWood777 2020-10-25T19:57:04Z

Congrats on making your first jam game :) My high score was 28 - I was trying to play in order to place the shape I got as soon as possible, and I think it would be nice if there was some bonus for managing to do so.

Resurrection by etrealjunior 2020-10-07T16:01:39Z

I liked the way the theme was represented here, and endless cycle of reincarnation. By the way, I had already played and rated yesterday, just couldn't comment because the comments weren't working.

PS: as the others already said: please refrain from copy-pasting the same comment everywhere; if you want more people to play it, I think your best bet would be submitting to (and then watching) streamers. On this tag you can find people playing Ludum Dare games: https://www.twitch.tv/directory/all/tags/c8d6d6ee-3b02-4ae7-81e9-4c0f434941cc

Stuck in a Timeloop by Stefan B. 2020-10-07T01:11:21Z

Loved the game, nice touch with the text scattered along the levels waiting to be found :)

I found a small bug: if you start a level, then return to the main menu without completing it, it still unlocks the next level. It doesn't really needs to be fixed for the jam, only if you were to expand this into a longer game in the future.

INSIDE THE LOOP by aerloth 2020-10-19T03:55:06Z

The controls felt kinda weird sometimes, but that didn't stop me from enjoying your game :)

SpaceMan by sefan 2020-10-15T22:28:12Z

Cool concept. I think you should write in the description that there's no actual ending, because I kept looking for more gems until I gave up. I like how the direction changes gradually, it was a nice touch.

Cycloop by Erlioniel 2020-10-16T20:48:04Z

I liked the puzzle mechanic, but I wish the levels themselves weren't that long to walk - or maybe the robot should be able to walk faster. Great pixel art, the "cycloops" robot is really cute.

Looper by Shortbread 2020-10-16T18:03:13Z

This game looks and feels so great.

The only problems I saw were:

1. sometimes, moving to an end of a straight line would teleport me to the other end 2. it was hard to move between some short lines in level 18, even more because of the bouncing when we hit the end of a straight line.

Other than that it's almost perfect and I agree with the comment above: this has potential as a full (probably mobile) game.

Looper - The Last Mission by Coding4rtist 2020-10-08T01:55:29Z

Great game, beautiful pixel art, I *had* to play it at least until I had managed to enter the leaderboard (with 400 points).

I have only two little things to point out that you may or may not want to fix in a post-jam version: One, I think the timer being in front of the view made some targets harder to hit. Two, maybe ties in the learderboard should be broken in favor of the first player to reach that score, instead of the last (there were other two players with 400 points when I entered the leaderboard).

Shoot Loop by novalain 2020-10-13T14:00:04Z

Nice neon visuals... I think the description could've told more about the gameplay (at first I didn't even try to move my character). Also, I don't know if it's a bug or a feature but on the level with a single, long vertical wall, the enemy managed to stay glued to that wall and shoot bullets through it.

PS: remember to play, rate, and give feedback to other people games, that way you may get more ratings as well.

Express Without Remorse by alpacalypse 2020-10-09T17:07:50Z

The "please stay behind the yellow line" thing made me stay behind the "Warning" yellow line for a while, lol.

I'm confused because I finished the game but I didn't get why it ended - was it by the number of travels, by the amount of junk collected, by how many upgrades I've made?

The bullet hell was nice, not too easy neither too hard.

. by gorrgolem 2020-10-14T16:35:29Z

I think something would've helped is adding subtitles for the poem, since it was important for playing the game; lacking time for implement it in game, at least write the poem in the description (it would be a nice touch to replace the "Say something" in the current description as well)

I felt like the mouse sensitivity was too high, fortunately most of the game was a straight line so it didn't bother too much.

I liked how you conveyed progress with the drawings on the walls, and with the poem finally ending after defeating that creepy person.

Loop Deleter by Zachary Barbanell 2020-10-08T01:31:00Z

Great puzzle game, I'll have to keep playing it later as I got stuck in level 8.

Donut Island by odedro987 2020-10-06T23:05:38Z

This must be one of the *sweetest* games on the jam :)

Who Knows by Whom 2020-10-07T22:25:19Z

I think this is the first time I've seen a gravity reversal mechanic that isn't simply a signal change of the gravity constant, that's cool :)

Concentric by Scraggle 2020-10-25T20:18:32Z

The only thing I didn't like is that it was possible to get stuck - maybe the game could change a rune randomly when there are no more valid moves to prevent that. If you ever consider turning this into a full (mobile?) game, I think there should be separate game modes for points and for objectives.

Too Many Phases by ItsAina 2020-10-10T04:12:01Z

Really good bullet hell :)

I would like the phases to have some form of progression, though. For example, the first phases could have fewer weapons than the following ones.

Collateral Damage by Michael Parrish 2020-10-06T23:52:33Z

Great game! Maybe a bit too hard, but that's fine :)

One thing I'd point out is that it's kinda unfair when the enemy changes orbit right before being hit... I think the suggestion someone else wrote here - some form of indication that it will change orbit soon - would help with this.

Oscillator Panic by tjm 2020-10-14T20:13:33Z

I was watching your game on PomoTheDog's stream (and then stopped looking at his solving attempts so I could try it myself). I love your use of Game of Life here! And the diagonal walls for breaking the period of the loop were a great addition.

I agree with the other comment that a preview of the next state would help a lot, but I don't know how hard it'll be to do it in Puzzlescript.

Aztec Ride by Idan Rooze 2020-10-08T20:33:47Z

The aztec pixel art style is very beautiful - I saw a screenshot on the feed and I just had to check it out.

I wish the game wouldn't do that zoom out / zoom in when the ride returns to the beginning, but that's just me nitpicking.

Purgatory Mechanic by Flawed 2020-10-07T20:54:43Z

I liked the concept, the art, the audio, almost everthing. But, weirdly, I have the opposite problem from the other people commenting: once I got the hang of the mechanic, it became too easy to continue playing forever, to the point I had to lose on purpose to stop the loop (with an score of 24). I don't know what to suggest, though... maybe the time to fix everything could shorten after a while?

LD49 — Unstable

gunstable by torcado 2021-10-06T01:31:45Z

Found your game from someone commenting on mine about both having unstable shooting abilities, and... I really loved yours! Currently my high score is just around 1k points but I'll keep playing it. The only thing I'd nitpick is that it's not clear that the loadout menu navigation is by WASD, since we use the mouse for everything else in the UI (maybe there could be arrow buttons for scrolling, or something).

It will Fall by jeremyfa 2021-10-10T01:03:50Z

Even though you've made it in only 24 hours it looks pretty polished, and I really liked the weird shapes - it stands out compared to similar games based on tetrominos. The score falling with the rest of the game area was a nice touch. The only think left for me to nitpick is that I think the game should track the high score (I think mine was 1.5k points, but I don't remember now).

Train Tilt by mrjoshuamclean 2021-10-06T21:13:16Z

Nice game :) I wish it kept the "score" (current level, number of boxes delivered) on the game over screen, though. Also, I don't know if it was intentional to make it more difficult but whenever I landed over a box I couldn't jump from it.

CryptoCoaster by the.jahn 2021-10-11T16:14:04Z

Very creative take on both the theme and the runner genre. It like that you actually added a leaderboard to the post-jam version (got the #8 place there), and that the track is consistent (so it's a fair competition).

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T00:54:57Z

@ricardobusta thanks :)

@elveverx thanks and yes, that's the reference :) my idea was using the Improbability Drive on a different kind of spaceship

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T02:17:38Z

@agameortwo The second type of enemies were supposed to prevent safe spots but I ran out of time to implement that.

@noctiphobia I thought about doing that (at least moving the whole row left/right, as they're drawn onto the background because of the NES limitations). Maybe I can add moving enemies on a post-jam version.

Thank you both for playing!

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T15:04:43Z

@vectrex28 thanks! And you nailed everything I still had on my TODO list. For example, the code is a little bit more convoluted than it should be because it supports multiple enemy types on the same screen, but currently it never happens. The slowdown is probably due to me using C this time instead of Assembly 😅 (even making only 25% of collision checks per frame wasn't enough)

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T15:15:44Z

@bloodbane thanks... and, Gunstable is this one https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/gunstable, right ? I'll check it (and yours) later

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-05T15:25:59Z

@firetaku thanks for playing... one thing that I liked making is that the first "transformation" takes a little bit longer than the others, in order to surprise the player :)

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-06T12:58:02Z

@verysoftwares there are actually 3 NES games on Ludum Dare 49: https://ldjam.com/tags/platform/nintendo-famicom :D (thanks for playing!)

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-07T04:18:06Z

@euler-moises eu acho que vou aceitar as aulas viu 😅 obrigado por jogar

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-07T14:55:12Z

@samuli the tree ended up looking better than I expected (for some reason I haven't yet played in on my actual NES, and even then I don't have a CRT). Thanks for playing and for the picture :)

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-09T23:48:49Z

@cppchriscpp Thanks for playing :) And I think I'll expand it - or at least polish what's already there - for a post jam version.

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-20T12:16:10Z

@omiya-games thanks again for playing it. Addressing your comments: I've been making some changes for a post-jam version, I've already managed to optimize my code so there's no more slowdowns. The enemies being stopped is in part a limitation of how they're drawn on screen (but even that I think I found a solution for).

The only thing I didn't get is when you say you "would have also liked the ship you swapped to be randomized as well", because the ship *is* randomized (maybe it didn't seem so because there were only 3 ships, and it never turns into itself?)

Instability by R3L0ad1 2021-10-15T16:27:49Z

The graphics / UI are really polished, this is a great entry. I only wish the player wouldn't collide with the ropes, because that makes chaining jumps between ropes almost impossible (even jumping safely out of a rope is hard).

Unistable by boaheck-artgent 2021-10-13T15:15:25Z

The game concept and art style gives a vibe of old flash/smartphone games... Unfortunately I'm really bad at this one so I couldn't go past the second obstacle 😅

Dream Dog Dilemma by potatolain 2021-10-09T22:47:42Z

I like how the game used those NES PPU glitches as instability effects :)

CHEMYKAL by RicardoBusta 2021-10-05T00:12:11Z

I liked the idea ~~but I couldn't figure out how to make 50% and 75% colors (diluting affected only the Alpha channel) so I got stuck after a few levels.~~ Update: I figured out, the canvases explain it, just need to combine the diluted potion with a white one 😅

Unbalanced Brawl by yopox 2021-10-17T15:10:09Z

Great game, if you all ever make a post jam version I'd suggest just making the hand and the battlefield more distinct, and making the current prices for buying/selling/etc more visible as well.

Ark by ProdigalSon 2021-10-10T15:43:25Z

Great puzzle, your take on this genre of game felt refreshing :) I only wish I wasn't so bad at it, got stuck on Level 6 (maybe I'm missing something, I don't know 😅). The only thing I felt was missing is some indication of which levels were already completed and which is the current one.

1THRUSTR.EXE by verysoftwares 2021-10-05T00:26:54Z

1thrustrexe.png

Congratulations!

For having made it in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 49

:)

(I only found a little bit weird that the victory animation is an "explosion", I almost thought I had done something wrong at first)

Hazmat Magic by Ismael Rodriguez 2021-10-07T14:50:55Z

Loved your game :) (finished in 07:57 with 17 deaths) Small details, like the idle animation, were a nice touch...

Only thing I'd change is that the text sometimes changes too fast and we may not have enough time to read it.

Atomica by Wassim 2021-10-11T15:20:26Z

I feel like idea is good, but the progression is too slow for it to be more fun. If you ever do post-jam updates, I'd suggest having some groups of particles around (even whole smaller atoms, maybe?) so the player can increment the counters faster (the player having to avoid going past the target values would add some risk to the game).

Stack'N by KingOfNova 2021-10-12T22:05:32Z

I liked the aesthetics, with the different palettes each game, and the relaxing music. Only think that I'd nitpick is the scoring - it seems to count whenever a collision happens, so: 1. when the physics cause some shaking we get lots of points for free, and 2. it keeps scoring after the "game over".

ŮNSTÅBLĒ by Dominium11 2021-10-10T21:27:15Z

I think I can barely enter the leaderboard? Playing with touchpad is almost a hard mode, I think :)

ikea.png

I really like how, not only the object have durability, but it also is very clearly displayed for us, it's a nice detail.

PS: I was about to ask if IIILII meant something but I think one of the comments above already explained it (unless they're wrong, who knows)

ŮNSTÅBLĒ by Dominium11 2021-10-10T22:18:10Z

@adriankrawczyk I did get the IKEAish logo, what I missed was the loss reference (until I saw dwid28's comment)

Short Fuse by beats 2021-10-09T15:03:28Z

Even though the game was short, it was fun and funny :)

I liked how it begs for a speedrun - we first keep trying stuff (e.g. it took me a while to find how to dispose of the clock), then when we win it says how much time we took... and now we get the motivation to find a shorter sequence of actions to beat that time (but I don't have much mouse dexterity so my best time was still 11 seconds)

In that sense I agree with other comments here, I wish there was a restart button when we win (it could've even be flavored as "next day..." or something)

Neon Saber by Kaish 2021-10-06T15:56:21Z

Why didn't you want to be rated for Humour? (I see what you did there with the Vi'Kooreentcha planet :) ) Also, are they called Redi because they di over and over again?

But seriously, I really liked the soundtrack and effects, and I love how the game is both a really hard bullet hell and very forgiving (as being hit just restarts the level instead of making us play from the start).

Spelldraft by patrickalfa 2021-10-12T19:42:06Z

The mechanics are really interesting, I could see this working as one of those "card minigame inside an RPG" :).

I like the idea of having the rules described on screen with drawings instead of text. I was going to say that I wish they would match the actual rules better, but I have no idea how to say "Air: 2 points if not adjacent to any other Air card" with pictures 😅.

One thing that I missed was something telling which pictures correspond to which elements (eventually I've managed to deduce / remember, but I think the written rules would work better if we had that information).

Gunsundheit! by Papabirb 2021-10-06T20:54:04Z

I liked the crazy premise, and the sun is the best :)

One problem I had was that the high score didn't seem to work, it was always the same value as the current score.

Gunsundheit! by Papabirb 2021-10-06T21:15:58Z

@papabirb you're welcome :) And yeah, I've noticed the destination getting longer, I like how that adds some challenge for the player (but I'm bad at it so I haven't reached it yet 😅)

Breakoban by OgelGames 2021-10-06T16:20:11Z

I love how the puzzles teach about the mechanics without spelling out everything. Good work with the level progression, 10 took me a long time (funny how I managed to solved just when I was about to give up 😅)

Just out of curiosity, was this made in Puzzlescript?

Stien by Bauke Regnerus 2021-10-10T00:37:37Z

The UI looks really polished, the help tooltip with the rules during gameplay is a nice touch. To compensate for the RNG I think it would be nice to be allowed 2 rerolls per turn, like other similar games usually do.

Feed Me Pizza! by yikescloud 2021-10-10T02:07:35Z

Congrats on emulating that old cartoon style (although I'd wish that "feed me" text wasn't reversed)

Off-topic, @yikescloud, it seems you've posted here on your own page a comment that looks like it's intended for someone else's game, something about a "nice shoot’em’up arena"

Professor Unstable's Chemical Combustion by Kazatan 2021-10-12T21:49:57Z

It was really fun to trying to get all the reactions, I like how you've added optional goals even though the player is free to just mess around (btw, my current score is 119, with 9/9 reactions). One thing that could've been interesting here was a button to enable "heat vision" - basically your debug view, but with the game's flavor.

Wizards Quest by Lakea 2021-10-08T11:18:33Z

The idea is good, looks like a good base for a roguelike. I think it would help the player if instead of having to click to pass the turn, the attack button itself did that.

Emily vs the Unstable Creatures by JPatchZ 2021-10-06T18:18:47Z

The characters are so, so cute! This has a lot of potential as a mobile game :)

One thing that slightly bothered me was the "⏩" button to advance the story, it could've be mistaken with "Fast-Forward". Maybe just a single "▶" would be fine.

Drunk Hill by Jvdwijk 2021-10-07T12:33:00Z

That screen effect was a nice touch :) The best part was that unexpected last log, haha

Unstable Tricky Table by Pomo 2021-10-07T03:11:42Z

I tried the space-smashing thing you mentioned on Outfrost's stream and this happened 😅

(and it kept stable after at least 5 or 6 pieces)

Hammer Keep by BadPiggy 2021-10-09T07:00:08Z

I really loved how much depth the mechanics have. In particular I like how healing is balanced: not only it's risky but sometimes it's even undesirable.

The Lesser Evil by Jon Topielski 2021-10-10T16:17:08Z

The low-resolution, 1-bit pixel art of your game is amazing! The variety of the curses, enemy patterns, even multiple game modes (I almost beat it on normal, then went with easy mode to see the ending, may play some more later), I can't even thing of something to criticize here. If this weren't a jam game, the only thing I'd miss would be some kind of collection showing which curses you've already got during your runs, for some extra "replayability".

AstroJump by odedro987 2021-10-07T14:11:35Z

This was very addictive, this was my high score for now:

astrojump.png

(one thing that I'd nitpick is that when the current score is better than the high score, it should've become the new high score on the same screen too)

Cemetery Pinball by DDesignDude 2021-10-16T14:42:07Z

Nice to see more homebrew on Ludum Dare :)

I wish the ball were launched with more speed, most of the time it didn't go to the upper half without bumping. I also wonder if the game could work better with a smaller ball, but this is just a guess.

Road to joy by arya-s 2021-10-11T14:31:50Z

I liked the concept but I found it hard to play in practice (it may be just me lacking dexterity, though). Little Beethoven is very cute, and I like how the game tells the story (with the notes getting dimmer representing Beethoven's hearing). I appreciate the "coyote time" thing the game does (where the jump works even if we just left the platform), it's a nice touch.

Eerie Erratic Expedition by Bloodbane 2021-10-06T02:51:49Z

Did you use a beat-em-up engine to make a shoot-em-up game? :) (I just googled for "Open Beats of Rage").

Nice execution, I liked the variety of attacks but I think some enemies were impossible to defeat (like someone said above, some of them move faster than us).

The Lonely Ghost by firetaku 2021-10-05T15:51:08Z

Nice game :) Only thing I'd nitpick is that I wish it was more clear where and when the level ends (I accidentally fell from the top of the end of level 2, then level 3 started and at first I thought I was back to level 1 again)

Genomancer by Noctiphobia 2021-10-06T03:09:24Z

Cool idea... I wish the difficulty progression were more smooth though, so the player could have more opportunity to play with the gene mechanic. Also, I've noticed the enemy attacks hurt themselves, was that on purpose?

Hardwork Simulator by cabjhegas 2021-10-07T13:35:08Z

This has a lot of potential :) I like how there's some strategy factor, we can't just shoot randomly because it counts towards the lost letters...

Fun fact: I was about to suggest a feature, but I just went back to play again and the feature was already there, haha 😅(I felt bad when my text went past the enemies and had to type a whole new line to reach them... It turns out that *backspace actually works!* 🤦‍♂️)

Twin Tails Jetpack by ExpiredPopsicle 2021-10-13T16:30:36Z

Wow, can't believe Hatsune Miku is here making games! (no, Minecraft doesn't count).

The balance between fuel and stability was a nice idea, and I liked the texts made of coins (although sometimes it was a bit hard for me to read them while they were spinning). One thing that slightly bothered me was that when we end up out the screen the "game over" was almost always inevitable, but it takes a while to actually happen (in other words, I wish there was a retry button).

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Terrible Brakes by TimBeaudet 2022-04-14T01:01:22Z

I should try playing this with a controller later, this was my best score with a keyboard (zone 5):

terrible-brakes.png

One thing I felt missing here is that this screen only shows the last score - I'd like to see the best score as well. But even without that it was really fun, and the fast retry made it really addictive :)

Color Cage by Apples_mmmmmmmm 2022-04-10T20:05:35Z

Nice game, it took me a bit to understand how to play it but eventually I got a score of 31. Only think I felt was missing is some sound effects for when the ball hits each circle, I think it could make a sound similar to when the ring hits the center.

Overworked & Underpaid by Chartle 2022-04-18T04:05:38Z

I was so tense playing this one...

overworked.png

The way the controls are presented to the player right at the beginning was really nice.

Baking Simulator 2022 by Sarah 2022-04-19T13:55:59Z

Unfortunately I couldn't play it well because of my unusual resolution (2560x1080):

baking.png

But I liked the humor in the introduction :)

Drawn Out by mechanicallife 2022-04-07T00:30:54Z

I like the concept, even though I'm not much a fan of autobattlers (and I'm actually surprised Wizards didn't make a MtG autobattler at this point)

One thing I missed from this game was some scoring of how many games we lasted.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T01:45:48Z

@nbumgardner it... should just work on the browser, the embedded emulator should start automatically. What happened when you opened the itch.io link?

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T02:10:35Z

@nbumgardner it must be some browser compatibility issue, because the usual behavior is for the emulator to start the game automatically, no need to click on the arrows or anything... Anyway if you're downloading the rom, you can install any other NES emulator on your computer as well to open it (I recommend Mesen: https://www.mesen.ca/)

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T08:45:56Z

@cppchriscpp thanks for the feedback :)

I *am* curious about your fix, if it's not much of a hassle I'd like to see it.

About the emulator, I wonder if Chrome changed something because I could swear em-fceux used to work fine on it at some point in the past...

About the lack of an ending, the original plan was to make the random parts more and more difficult (for example, occasionally a goal flag would actually move to ambush the player), so it's still infinite but more likely to end, and also making it more clear that the game is angry at the player "cheating" the original ending.

Unfortunately I've got sick on the last day (and I'm still not fully recovered), so I couldn't do it in time... Maybe I'll do it in a post-jam update.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-05T23:23:54Z

@jvdwijk you have a good point, once you've start playing there's not much reason to go back to the title screen. I'll add this to my TO DO list for a post jam version.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-06T17:11:16Z

@renge I understand the feeling - it's "trollish" on purpose - but it's possible to learn which version of that segment is which by the position of the stars by playing multiple runs.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-06T17:25:44Z

@renge if the middle path has no stars on it, it's the right path. Otherwise, if the bottom path has no stars, the top path is the correct one.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-07T15:16:49Z

@nbumgardner I've updated my embedded emulator setup, it should work for you now

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-07T17:32:42Z

@bluishgreenpro yes, it's feasible... Maybe I could even do a "bag" system like Tetris does - taking a list with one of each chunk then shuffling that list.

Stallar by Wendel Scardua 2022-04-13T20:09:23Z

@kaldrin thanks, and although I couldn't make it in time my original plan included stuff like occasional moving goal flags, either falling into the player or even chasing them.

Feline Flood Fiasco by potatolain 2022-04-06T03:47:57Z

What a sad coincidence that you also got sick on the last day, I hope you are (or get) better.

About the game: I liked the puzzles, the art and the "meow-like" sound effect, and I only have a few nitpicking points to make:

* I think it would be n**ice**r if moving over ice didn't have the same animation as walking, the character just sliding over it instead. * For turn-based puzzles like this, I like the character to slightly pause after each step - too many times I'd walk past the point I intended and had to undo a step or two. * I know it's not trivial, but when pushing blocks it would be nice if they were temporarily turned into sprites for a more continuous movement.

Gate Keeper by Lawrence 2022-04-13T22:17:02Z

This is very cool, the only thing that took a bit of the fun is that the wave with two archers get way too hard if you don't have enough boxes to reach them - even the strategy of jumping on the falling boxes is hard to apply when there are twice the arrows flying around and breaking them. I'll have to keep playing later to see how it ends (in my best run I died on wave 8)

The Manbutton Project by AndideBob 2022-04-07T02:47:37Z

I really liked the tension the game generates, at some points I thought more time had passed than it actually did ("this time I'll enter the leaderboard for sure..." "wait, what do you mean my time was only 1:08 !?")

The Lars Mission by Honest Dan 2022-04-11T01:12:06Z

Watching people play this one made it seem easier than it seems 😅 Escaped with 9 researchers on my third try. The game was so polished, the only thing I can suggest if you decide to keep working on it is that we should be able to get the lizard when the rocket is ready to launch :)

PS: I just found one small bug, when I select the quality in Options, choosing any of the non-High ones changes the font for all the four quality buttons:

Will There Bee Another? by Gabriel Dias Oliveira de Almeida 2022-04-10T19:31:43Z

Jogo adorável, principalmente pelas expressões da Mel... E muito boa aplicação do tema, uma das mais criativas que vi.

Acho que realmente só fez falta um pouco de som mesmo.

Weed it & Reap by JavaSaurus 2022-04-13T23:34:58Z

I liked the concept, the voices were a nice touch :) One thing I found weird is that sometimes I kept hitting a zombie in the same place for a very long time - it seemed like the zombie was dying and another was respawning in the same place (or it was just blinking once in a while). Also, I found the information on the top left of the screen a bit hard to read, I think it should at least have a darker background.

Message in a Bottle by hechi 2022-04-07T01:51:03Z

The island was really beautiful, and I liked the idea of sending and receiving actual messages in bottles. One thing that I had a bit of trouble was trying to grab my own bottle to throw, but other than that everything was fine.

Wait for It... by beats 2022-04-18T04:17:48Z

The audio was great :) I feel like there's some potential here for a more challenging game, if you were to keep working on it after Ludum Dare.

Doomsday Run by Kaish 2022-04-10T21:35:29Z

Nighty Night, Nosferatu by Shawn Moore 2022-04-18T03:49:31Z

I liked the variety of the puzzles you've managed to create around the same idea of avoid the sun... But I almost didn't manage to finish the game because sometimes it would almost freeze my browser - For a moment I thought the last level made the whole tab blank on purpose as it coincided with the two suns meeting in the sky 😅

Childhood Memories by Alexthehuman2 2022-04-07T01:33:41Z

I had some trouble trying to play it on itch - some things were visible only on fullscreen, while others were only visible out of fullscreen. Although to be fair, my screen does have an unusual resolution (21:9)...

Other than that I liked the concept of the minigames (but I couldn't do the bicycle one).

Rocket Lawnchair by jitspoe 2022-04-18T03:11:19Z

I'm really bad at this game, I'm still at the point were I just hit 01 pools 😅. It wants me to hate it, but I can't, the sounds, the physics, everything was great - except for my skills at piloting a flying lawnchair.

Lethal Dice 50 by marcmagus 2022-04-11T02:24:23Z

@almost: I think you misunderstood one of the cards, there's no "1 1 1" card, the "\* \* \*" card is supposed to be "3 dice of any value".

@marcmagus: finally got to play some games on TTS (my high score was 350). I like how "strategic" it can be - there was a moment where I knew that I lost not because of the randomness, but because I made a bad decision when choosing a card for scoring. The only thing that could take a bit of the fun is having to check if the dice added up to 50 when playing IRL.

Also, I think one thing that could help with the instructions would be to first present that picture with the example and labels for each type of thing ("upright score cards", "upside down penalty cards", etc), so then the instructions could refer to them more easily.

The End? by michaelaranda 2022-04-19T19:45:24Z

end.png

It was very fun to try coordinating the two characters, the physics made it a bit harder but the game is short enough that we can just keep replaying until we succeed (one "strategy" I've found was to make one character deal with the thrusters, the other deal with the fuel, but when the first is holding a thruster the second would pause the fuel task to start making another thruster, compensating for my bad aim 😅)

Super Crusher Fighters by Vectrex28 2022-04-07T02:29:00Z

Loved the graphics, the music... Also, I liked that "trick" of using a wall of 8x16 sprites to hide the bg updates :)

Unfortunately it was too hard for me (this may be more of a "me" issue 😅), maybe it would be a bit easier if there were a more direct way to place the crates (e.g. B to place a crate, Select to change the type of the next crate to be placed)

Extremely Exteme Sports by kuviman 2022-04-07T15:30:59Z

I find it amazing when people manage to make actual online multiplayer games for LD, and yours is very n**ice**.

Populus Romanus by Bauke Regnerus 2022-04-13T22:50:20Z

The graphics are very good, and I liked the concept (vaguely reminds me of Reigns)... At first I found weird was that we only have information about which constructions we will place (and which of the four classes will be affected) *after* placing the classes' houses, but it's ok to learn after replaying a few times (I've managed to "break the game" on my third try :) )

Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-09T15:04:09Z

Loved the game, placing the components feels so satisfying, the only extra feedback that I could give that I haven't seen already on other comments is this:

I wanted to post a screenshot of my score here (I don't remember how much I had, surely above 130000¢ but could've been ~160000¢), but when I started pressing the keys to take the screenshot the end screen closed, returning to the main menu. Maybe that screen should only be closed by clicking on "exit to menu" instead? Or if allowing to close it with the keyboard, restrict it to a few keys, like space, escape... (or at least allow the high score to be seen from the main menu)

(likewise, when I tried to pause for a bit on one of those "end of shift" screens, as I started to press alt-tab it closed it)

Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-09T15:33:39Z

Managed to take a screenshot with Print Screen (which also closed the end screen):

**Score: 224800¢ in 12 shifts**

Computer Scientist Training Lab by YellowKamel 2022-04-15T12:26:20Z

I liked the tutorial and the mechanics, the only thing I didn't like much is that those timed walls seem to require a bit more thinking than the movement speed allows, so I ended up just treating them as solid walls and avoiding them as much as possible 😅

Hard Light by Guardaro 2022-04-09T16:27:12Z

Loved the aesthetics, I just found the controls a bit weird and it took me a while to get used to them. Played until I've managed to enter the high score list (at the bottom, but still...)

Uma coisa que eu sugeriria é colocar desenhos representando os botões do mouse, porque de início eu também achei que era pra clicar dos lados esquerdo/direito da tela.

Good Morning Game by Ben Yazi 2022-04-19T20:19:10Z

The art at the end was beautiful, and I found the jumping mushrooms very creative and versatile. I didn't understand why some doors were weird with flying watermelons and stuff but I guess dreams don't need to make sense anyway :)

Heat Death by RoofloorWall 2022-04-10T20:35:09Z

I liked almost everything about this game, it's challenging but at the same time it's forgiving (bumping into stuff doesn't result in a Game Over, for example)... I think it would be nice to have at least some sound effects, but it's a great game even without them. The explosion effect was a really nice touch.

Keep It Steaming by Jvdwijk 2022-04-14T00:04:26Z

Really liked this one (got to day 32 before writing this), the sound effects are great... Only problem I had is that sometimes there was an indicator pointing towards the locomotive, but it was already fueled.

PS: I knew the main character looked familiar to me... It was the same [Mink from LD49](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/drunk-hill)!

Carpe Diem by Pomo 2022-04-07T00:59:35Z

Loved the neon aesthetics! Unfortunately I'm bad at it so I've yet to finish - even using shortcuts. I'll have to go back to it after playing more entries...

One thing I'd suggest is that the tubes could have some (neon?) borders as their outside can blend with their inside.

You Are A Bomb by Benjamin Halko 2022-04-09T16:08:24Z

Had fun with this one, I like how some strategies can emerge from the simple rules of the game (for example allowing some bombs to explode walls to make it easier to move around the map)

My current highscore is **1:50.78**

RIITA by wobs 2022-04-10T05:08:28Z

I liked the concept of using short rhythm minigames, so we have the fun of playing more of them on a single run. The "swamp song" was a funny surprise. I've played just the Sun side for now, will check the Moon side later.

I have a question: Is that final score counting the results for across all the players?

RIITA by wobs 2022-04-11T14:25:33Z

Just played again as the night side, and something just occurred to me... Is the bucket dialogue related to a thing I've saw recently about Finland's appreciation for free buckets?

Giraffe o'Clock by Kepsert 2022-04-18T02:56:01Z

Forgot to send an actual feedback before 😅 I found the giraffe neck platforming very creative, and even though it may have been a bit excessive I do love some fourth wall breaking (and puns, like in the joke about the dog called Rolex). As I mentioned elsewhere the only problem I had is that the game didn't support my resolution on Windows (2560x1080) cutting the top and bottom of the screen.

Death's Gambit by osh.studio 2022-04-09T17:02:54Z

Great game, the voice acting was a nice surprise. Only things I felt missing were a way to see the rest of the map and/or an general indication of where the reaper is when not on screen, and some indication of the reaper's reach.

JellyJam by potkirland 2022-04-19T19:33:15Z

It seems that most of the critics I could make about the jam version were already addressed in the new html one. I liked the "organic" look, and loved the jellyfish emoticon faces. This was my score playing the html version:

jelly.png

(the jam version seems to be very hard to lose, I've even left the PC for a while to finish making coffee and it kept going past the 100k points)

Way before death by Arfilish 2022-04-19T20:34:22Z

The move and turn speed made it hard for me to even pass the first level, but it may be just me because I didn't see people playing on streams having the same problem 😅.

One thing that I'd like here was a faster retry after losing (or even a restart button for when we already know Blant won't have enough time).

Other than that, the low-poly graphics are nice :)

Nature Is Healing by KingOfSpill 2022-04-14T00:41:40Z

I liked the style of the intro. Also, the way the mold spreads feels very "organic", that was really good. One thing I didn't like much is that apparently the fire from the flamethrower hits the player as well (mostly because it was already hard enough for me to avoid the mold without having to worry about that)

My best time was 02:07 on the first try... Somehow every other attempt after that I died much faster 😅:

@dis0rder I didn't expect someone to actually mess with the ram on an emulator 😅.

Also, about the pun, you see... the game kinda exists *because* of my pun :) I thought about it first, then tried finding what game I could make around it.

Find Ten Seconds by dhim 2022-10-10T13:32:08Z

I liked the concept a lot :)

One thing that I'd suggest is to use a font which avoids confusion between some symbols (like between lowercase L and uppercase I, O and 0, and so on). Maybe a serif font (but then it should be one where 1 (one) and l (lowercase L) look different - they look almost the same on the text box I'm writing this 😅)

Find Ten Seconds by dhim 2022-10-10T15:15:05Z

@dhim ooooh, if that's intentional then it's an awesome idea :) (and it's sad that you couldn't implement it before the end)

10-sec-flip-1.png

By the way, I found a bug but don't know what exactly caused it - it was right after the timer ended, and I had a piece with the power up effect, and that's all I remember. The screen stayed like that and I couldn't do anything:

10-sec-flip-2.png

I really liked this game :) I wonder how much the game would change if we were able to rotate the pieces like Tetris

Tumbletris by JavaSaurus 2022-10-06T01:41:21Z

TumbleTris.png

Nice entry, I liked the combination of genres. Only thing that bothered me a little bit (just a bit) was that it was too easy to unalive the zombies (so I lost my lives mostly due to taking longer to drop the barrels than I should 😅) Maybe this could be alleviated by the barrels needing to be in a row in order to match or something?

Dr. Word's Machine by Kaish 2022-10-09T19:38:43Z

Time Thief by YellowKamel 2022-10-09T18:52:40Z

A few things I'd point are:

- I think either there should be more illustrations during the story, or none, for consistency - I think [enter] while the text is being written on screen should first skip to the end of the current page, instead of skipping to the beginning of the next page (I wanted to read it faster and ended up missing a couple of pages)

But nice entry, I liked how the decisions affect who will help you in the end (and how the first scene hids who was with Alex at the final battle)

Gemstones by Spike Studio 2022-10-06T13:33:29Z

Gemstones.png

Got 349k points :)

As I said on some twitch chat elsewhere, I really liked the asymmetric mechanics - and by making new gems unlock during progression it was easy to learn and get used to each one, that's nice.

If you intend to polish this gem of a game after the rating period, some small issues I had:

- sometimes the tutorial progresses by interacting with the board (like the first one, about switching gems), but sometimes we need to click on the pop-up, and it's not clear which is which (so maybe the tutorial pop-ups that need to be clicked should have a "close" or "next>>" button?)

- at some point in the middle of my playthrough there were two pop-ups at the same time, and one was in front of the other so I couldn't read the second one (and they both closed together).

Also, not an issue per se but maybe you should consider adding support for mobile/touch devices :)

Carrot Conundrum by blinry 2023-01-14T21:12:27Z

I saw the posts about the game on Mastodon and knew instantly I *needed* this game to exist :) I'm a great fan of things revolving around time travel and metalanguage, and even more so of things that combine them (like Carrot Conundrum).

Total Extinction by Samuli 2023-01-15T19:01:57Z

I found the grim dino-reaper very cute :)

I don't know if it's a NESMaker thing, but when I go back to screens were I already reaped a dinosaur it reappears for a frame or two.

BTW which emulator did you use for the WebGL version?

You Got Served! by beardywombat 2023-01-17T21:32:16Z

Besides the camera issues, one thing I'd point out is that I feel the end screen should display how many people you kept alive (because otherwise it doesn't make much difference if you try to save them all or not)

Moon Harvest by Wendel Scardua 2023-01-10T00:56:11Z

@la-bread I just uploaded a hotfix to make it cheaper to get the jetpack (actually a meta-hotfix, because the previous hotfix was wrong). And yeah, the original plan was a bit longer (multiple shops, upgrades, etc) but I spent most of the time making the "scroll back the level" thing work (compare with https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/stallar, where the level only scrolls in one direction).

Thanks for playing it :)

Moon Harvest by Wendel Scardua 2023-01-11T19:47:14Z

@grizeldi you can't get softlocked; as the instructions say, you could use "Home" to sleep and regrow the plants (and to be even friendlier with jammers, you can use it even if out of money). But thanks for playing it anyway :)

Cattle Juice by Togis 2023-01-15T14:17:43Z

I guess everything I could say was already said by others.

One small and unimportant bug I've found: no matter which country you choose, it always says "Belgium" on the top right.

Also, it's funny how your description says "In Cattle Juice, you try to eradicate the population of the world", but I still kept being afraid of killing everyone and running out of juice 😅😅😅

I won in 22 days at first, then I turned on the post-jam better AI and beat it in 14 days (right before needing to pay the second week tax).

One thing I found missing: I wish there was a way to see the delivery queue for the units we've bought.

Hex-Yield by AndideBob 2023-01-15T18:38:29Z

One thing I missed was a way to see a tile's recipe once I've managed to make it, because there were some times when I missed what interaction created it - doesn't even need to be the full recipe, just telling what tile it was before would help.

Oh, also I couldn't find a way to quit the game (other than alt-f4'ing)

VR Farm Life by FlyingKaida 2023-01-12T14:39:19Z

@flyingkaida one suggestion: you could change the type of your game from "Web (other)" to "Oculus", so it shows up on the list of games made for it: https://ldjam.com/tags/platform/oculus

If you make other builds like WebGL and Windows you can repeat the same link with different types, like I did with my game (which has the same url for both "Web" and "NES")

King of Veggies by pinchazumos 2023-01-17T20:54:44Z

score.png

I liked how the various mouseover sounds make up for the lack of a soundtrack :)

One thing that seems to be either a bug on the game or on the rules: it is stated that "If you plant a veggie next to a watered border, the card’s value increases by 1 for each side touching water", but this implies that on the top left corner the value would increase by 2 (as there's 2 sides touching water) but instead it only increases by one.

I know it's probably hard to define it properly but I wish there were some kind of chaining (for example, you plant a 3 near some 3s, then we reap those 3s and they become 2s; then if these 2s are touching *other* 2s, reap them and they become 1s, and so on)

Edit: forgot to screenshot but I just got a score of 152 :)

Harvest Heist by 3ggplant 2023-01-15T14:42:07Z

Captura de tela 2023-01-15 113407.png

Some things I missed: some way to know where enemies are when they are too far away from the screen, something to avoid enemies from spawning right besides the player, and this is a selfish thing but I wish the game accepted WASD besides the arrow keys (my laptop's arrow keys are too small 😅)

Hectic Harvest by Junglerally 2023-01-15T16:06:42Z

Other than the balancing issues already mentioned, I liked a lot your idea of the resource (the wheat blocks) doubling as a weak wall, so the player has a reason not to always harvest them.

Why Deliver Y ? by Aurel300 2023-05-06T14:49:49Z

Just finished the game and, only then, I got the pun ("Harry D. Boyle" / "hard-boiled") 😅

It's very cool that you managed to make clever uses of the sliding puzzle mechanic.

Pneumatic Postman by klausklapper 2023-05-08T01:55:40Z

I'll try playing it later but I was watching a streamer playing it now... and I think it could be fun - or at least funny - if there was an option to play it like Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes, with a second player dealing with the binder for the first one.

I loved everything that I saw. It's nice how the scoring is conveyed through a letter instead of having it in UI. The menu intro was something I'd expect from a full game, so... "cinematic".

If I were to suggest something, it would be to space things out so the first day starts easy with simple deliveries, then the next day (or later) introduce valve failures and so on.

DElive by IcyLava 2023-05-05T18:12:29Z

I need to play this one more later, wanna enter at least 10th on the Manual Leaderboard™ :-)

delive-26.png

I love the... "organic"(?) way the ♦ enemies move, wonder how hard it was to make them move like that.

Hover Bites by Togis 2023-05-07T18:14:43Z

I liked how forgiving the game was - it's (probably) always possible to eventually reach the goal, so the player can aim to try it in fewer days, or using fewer drones, and so on.

(not me, though, I just delivered salads for days until I had money for more drones 😅)

Holding Out by Jeremy Ryan 2023-05-09T17:11:56Z

I love the funny conversations with Gary, they (and the many cat ears everywhere) give an extra charm to the game, which already had some of it on the art and animations :)

Elevander of the Emu Express by Honest Dan 2023-05-09T16:59:36Z

Can't think of anything to say that either wasn't already mentioned, or you haven't already addressed on the post-jam update 😅... like, the art is great, the controls are very original (but hitting my head on stuff felt like an unnecessary extra difficulty point)...

Ok, one small thing: I feel like the Emu Express logo should be a bit more prominent, we barely see it on the transition between tutorial and game

The Great Beer Robbery by PoshDan 2023-05-07T22:08:56Z

I've yet to beat this one (clicking on my trackpad is hard). I like how hectic it got eventually :)

Rawnhill Post by grizeldi 2023-05-09T18:16:45Z

The puzzle itself was interesting, and I like that there's an extra replayability with the golden stamps. Only two things that bothered me a bit were:

- sometimes it was hard to see the vehicles (on this one level I thought there were 2 cars and was surprised when the game pointed out there was a third one to move) - the indications of where to take the packages looked like packages themselves, which felt weird

WAR SAND by MateusBoga 2023-05-09T20:03:40Z

The pseudo-3d thing is really well done :) I'm only a bit saddened that the audio logs don't have subtitles, though (but that's most a "me" problem I guess 😅)

Hot Dog Rescue by Roolow 2023-05-06T16:10:59Z

Rocket Lawnchair 2: Baby Deliverydoo! by jitspoe 2023-05-08T20:18:50Z

Tattered Tunics by tetrapteryx 2023-05-02T03:18:26Z

Congrats on finding a really original pun for a game :) (I don't know why but at first it took me a bit to notice I was the right character and not the left one 😅)

Impasta by Jozef 2023-05-05T01:30:24Z

Although an AI may not be the best judge at comedy, at least I liked the idea of mashing two wildly different things :)

BTW, for some reason it gave me 75 out of 10 once:

Impasta.png

Oh, also you may add a notice about the computer time on the description (I couldn't play it properly before because my PC time was wrong, now on the laptop with the correct time it's working just fine)

PS: Got a score of 54 :-)

The Convoy by Vectrex28 2023-05-04T18:12:26Z

Playing during lunch time, got 33800 points :) (will try on my actual NES later)

I love how you make your graphics seem more "3D" and "metallic". And I gotta check the scrolling stuff someday, I've yet to play with scroll splits without using a mapper IRQ.

The only reason I'm not more impressed is because by now I'm already used to being impressed by your entries :-)

I was going to post a worse score at first, but the game was fun and short enough that I couldn't resist trying it a bit more until I got a better one. BTW I'm using Firefox and I didn't notice any performance issues.

Mail-In Vengeance by YellowKamel 2023-05-09T19:29:38Z

My first delivery was so bad, I thought surely the game would be impossible to beat. But then I understood how to push the cards so they fly faster, and managed to defeat the dragon :)

Maybe there could be a bit of wind coming from the cursor to the balloon to make it clearer that we are blowing it?

Courier Cacophony by SugarSugarSugar 2023-05-16T01:53:50Z

Just got to the end :) I liked how each different type of block was introduced; one thing I really missed was a "undo" button (to revert step by step instead of restarting the whole level)

Good Vibe Delivery by Kepsert 2023-05-19T22:57:23Z

Finally played this one, just in time 😅 I loved everything from the mechanics to the dialogues (including the giraffe o'clock reference). I also had the bug people mentioned above, I think mine happened when I pressed space right before the dialogue options showed up, not sure of it.

The Ferryman by Lomby 2023-05-09T03:07:51Z

If you ever get to make a post-jam version (judging by the comments here), a few things I'd suggest are:

- a larger area for clicks (at first it took me a while to find where to click on the docks) - a tracker of which endings where obtained (I like that you numbered them but my memory is bad - I think I got them all, though)

One question: the person who took your coin is one that ended up being not included on this version, right? Because at first I thought it could be the person on the first area but in hindsight they don't seem tall or gray enough 😅

Crash Courier by Ategon 2023-05-04T18:23:43Z

At first I was going to say that I didn't like the horizontal movement much, that I wish it moved in discrete steps, but I kept trying playing and... I kinda got used to it? Eventually I got a high score of 7222 points :) (I ended up not using the dash much, because I kept bumping into walls after using it, but that's more of a "me" problem 😅)

Pizza Here On Earth by Little Doctor Games 2023-05-10T14:51:26Z

Didn't expect to see the Akira slide, hahaha

I found the bosses mechanics very clever, so the game wasn't just a sequence of "just hit this enemy a lot". Unfortunately I'm very bad at it so I had to use the cheat button to see the ending. (How bad am I? Well, I've managed to get a game over *after* learning about the cheat button 😅) Loved that ending and it's music, though.

Bloody Boxes by Augmotic 2023-05-05T15:10:53Z

Got some ~80 points, but I was having some problems with the mouse movements (maybe it was the sandbox thingy I was using). While someone else commented that they wanted more hints, I was wondering the exactly opposite - if it would be more fun to have to discover the meanings on your own. I guess in the end having those notes are a nice middle ground :)

Alien Elevator by nhcarter123 2023-05-06T15:09:44Z

I liked how chaotic it becomes when suddenly there are too many aliens. Can't think of anything to criticize here - if I were to say I miss something, the only thing that comes to mind is a tracking of high scores.

I'm On My Way by KorionArt 2023-05-10T15:47:25Z

The art is beautiful :) and also the way the pigeon flies is very well done... I only wish we had more time to react to the worry ghosts (like if the action was zoomed out a bit)

LD54 — Limited Space

Target Ball Z by TimBeaudet 2023-10-11T12:09:19Z

One thing that confused me for a little while is that the camera does an almost instant 180 turn when we move backwards, I wish that camera turn were either bound to a key or not so instant because sometimes it was a bit disorientating (and the first time it happened I actually thought the car was going the other way 😅)

Total Party Swipe by Sheepolution 2023-10-18T01:40:06Z

I just played it and, as my party died, I just figured out the name of the game (it's a pun with "party wipe", right? like the one I just witnessed? 😅)

I liked the concept, the variety of skills, even the choices of typical RPG monsters like the gelatinous cube :) Only thing I missed was an ending: after my party died the game just kept going on turn after turn...

QPCA-77B by Jimbly 2023-10-20T21:00:43Z

My head hurts 😅 I'm at exercise 6/9, but I still need to play some other games before time runs out so I'll pause here for now. You nailed the Zachtronics vibe, and the channels thing was a really nice twist on the genre. I only wish we could see the other people's solution (maybe after we solved the respective exercise?)

Arcane Echoes by Krassenstein 2023-10-08T14:41:12Z

Was the game updated after the jam period? I ask because I see people speaking about not being able to shoot in a different direction than the one they were moving to so I wasn't sure if this was there from the start and people just missed it or if it's an undocumented post-jam update.

Anyway I got to the 10th wave before dying. The game felt a bit unfair with the difficulty scaling faster than one could get upgrades to fight it. With the way the level clears between waves leaving the gold behind, I felt like I was fighting in wave N to get gold during wave N+1 to *maybe* get upgrades for wave N+2.

MIROH by Wendel Scardua 2023-10-06T08:40:38Z

@ethan-g but the blocks don't hurt you, you only lose by hunger (only if the board is filled and you can't place more blocks the hunger bar would fill faster to end the game sooner). Are you thinking it hurts because of the flicker? Because the flicker is there just to circumvent a hardware limitation - the NES can't show more than 8 8x8 sprites on a single scanline. So if I don't flicker, some of then would be actually invisible.

MIROH by Wendel Scardua 2023-10-21T14:07:27Z

@alexrose ping! I'm not sure if it *will* work on MiSTer but it probably should; I tried looking it up and apparently it does support the mapper I'm using (mapper 028)

Rover Under by ColeSlaughter 2023-10-04T18:13:46Z

Loved the art, and it was cool to see the development on stream (even though I was mostly lurking and plinkoing while trying to finish my own game). Finally stopped to check it out luckily the team I chose was already winning :D

One thing I didn't get is what capturing the square areas do... isn't the score just based on the painted areas? Or is it a combination of both?

Rover Under by ColeSlaughter 2023-10-07T13:10:54Z

@honest-dan the Windows version is known to be crashing (it says so there with the link), but the web version seems to be working fine (I came back to check how the best team - Yellow - was going :) )

Hope Falters by Jeremy Ryan 2023-10-15T14:35:52Z

The game was so perfect, even though it was short. For me the best part was when the name of the levels clicked on my head and gave me hints about what to do (I bet I would've taken way longer to figure out the Theseus one if it wasn't named Theseus 😅)

Fowl Play by Simon Rahnasto 2023-10-08T15:38:37Z

I loved this game, one of my favorite things was the whole theater aesthetics with the ducks moving around the scenario ("vrooooom").

I should have gone with my first guess on my first playthrough, but I second-guessed myself and went for the wrong culprit, so I had to replay it 😅

Flob the Bloing by Branquelo 2023-10-12T12:27:44Z

Olá, mais um 🇧🇷 aqui :)

bloing.png

AnathemA by 3mpty 2023-10-11T12:51:57Z

anathema.png

One thing I liked a lot is how each upgrade has some sort of flavor text :)

I suggest you to put the controls at least here on the LD page (you can edit it), because it took me a few tries until I found out it was "hold right button to aim, click left button to shoot" 😅

The Fregstival by Honest Dan 2023-10-08T01:10:07Z

Now I feel a bit dumb 😅 I played it twice; on the second run I even had learned to sacrifice fregs and food to block stuff... But I was still thinking "it seems unfair that they are attacking without me having turrets to defend myself". Then when I came to write this comment it hit me that obviously that was also a time I was supposed to sacrifice them.

But I really liked the game, both the aesthetics and the mechanics :)

Plungebot's Playroom by Andreadbx 2023-10-07T12:44:12Z

I like how you got some original mechanics there with the different objects having different effects while being pulled. I only found it a bit unexpected that the train could be pulled sideways, but it's fine either way. Besides what everyone else already said (the camera, lack of keyboard controls for next level and restart), I wish the level selection had an indicator of which ones were completed (at some point I went to the menu to check how many levels I had already done and how many were left, and then I had to guess where I was again 😅)

Plungebot's Playroom by Andreadbx 2023-10-08T13:16:50Z

@andreadbx oops, I guess I just got lucky and the one I clicked was the one I was before, and it was at the end of one of the level pages 😅

Greatest Sandwich by Fis 2023-10-17T13:04:02Z

Game felt really polished - the restaurant-themed menu was very pretty :) Only thing that got me confused was, is there no end to it? It seemed to keep going on after level 8 (unless I did something wrong 😅). Also, I think the conveyor belt should be a bit more balanced in its RNG, because even being patient and doing everything right, sometimes I would lose an order because an ingredient never arrived.

Denpo by Strato 2023-10-12T14:27:33Z

H.amazon E.mployee L.earning L.ab by Rhoka 2023-10-08T13:44:45Z

It was fun (and funny) to play (and to watch others playing on streams). I just had one problem that I can only guess it may be related to my 21:9 resolution: moving up/down was way, way too slow compared to moving sideways; it seemed to have not only way lower speed but even acceleration (I almost thought it was something with my keyboard not sending inputs)

Introvertigo by Scott Steffes 2023-10-12T14:06:26Z

Finally stopped by to actually play this Myself Simulator (after watching it so many times on streams). I don't think I have anything to add that wasn't already mentioned by everyone else at this point 😅... Except that maybe I would like to have the option to retry separate scenarios after the end, but even that is not a big deal.

DARQY by Euler Moises 2023-10-12T12:58:57Z

Robo Rush Hour by michaelaranda 2023-10-07T13:41:49Z

robo-rush-hour.png

Nice spin (*wink wink*) on the tetris genre :) I had some trouble with the perspective and with noticing that I shouldn't place robots in the middle area, but the worst part was on me: I kept wanting to move the robot sideways without hard dropping them 😅 (now I know what people felt when accidentally hard dropping blocks on *my* game)

And even though I ended up missing those at first, I liked how some game features were... how can I say... "embedded" into the world, like the timer being the station clock, the "next piece" being just robots waiting for their turn to enter the car.

Headbanger's Beer Run by Bauke Regnerus 2023-10-12T13:50:42Z

My front row mates will unfortunately stay thirsty, because the best I could do was to deliver one beer 😅

BTW, sometimes I would get the spiky person stuck on the emo person, was that an intentional thing?

A Living Place in Limited Space by YellowKamel 2023-10-16T21:14:27Z

My scores have been all around ~160 😅 I guess one thing that would have made it more fun for me was if there was a way to discard a card to get a new one - even if it cost a turn and more sheep arrived - because sometimes we get in a situation where there's nothing to do but to place columns, just waiting for the game to end.

Keepsakes by poboy 2023-10-11T12:19:56Z

Even though it's short, it was such a sweet experience <3. I love how you reused the ukulele and the GBA on the music and sfx volume sliders :)

(but I confess I found the absurd weights kinda distracting 😅)

The Giant's Globe by Jvdwijk 2023-10-08T14:14:06Z

\*reading the comments\* ... oh, I thought the theme was being used as "**limited** functions for the **space** key" 😅

Just finished it; one thing that I liked was having to discover stuff while playing - like the way that white block (snow?) dampens the jump but not the dash, so that staircase full of them becomes not so trivial (but I still lost much time on that last step because I kept trying to jump over the last white block 😅), or the way the order of the functions matter in one other screen (and that we can manipulate said order).

One thing I felt was missing is some tracks to tell the path of the moving platforms; sometimes I was misjudging the way a platform would go.

A Pawfect Date: Pomo's Cozy Romance by Pomo 2023-10-08T16:24:00Z

Finally, I've beaten the game (on easy mode, of course) :) Of all the final attacks, the final final one was really unexpected and I'm glad I avoided spoilers of it. I don't know if you already added this to the post-jam version, but can you save the unlocking of the endless mode? Because at least for me when I reopen the game it doesn't seem to remember it was unlocked.

A Pawfect Date: Pomo's Cozy Romance by Pomo 2023-10-08T20:28:12Z

Oops, somehow I forgot the description already says that 😅 (I didn't even need to scroll back to check, once I read your comment I instantly remembered it)

Function f by Notinatal 2023-10-16T14:04:46Z

I loved how, for some puzzles, you have to literally think outside the box :)

Someone could think this game is **derivative**, but I felt the **limit** in space was very **integral** to it. (Forgive me for the **sin()** of making math puns on a **tangent**ial comment)

Safe Space Passage by Kepsert 2023-10-07T15:26:02Z

Nothing that stops me from thinking this was an amazing entry <3 (I had to quit on the last level because I couldn't get past the rest of the level after collecting the heart, but I'll try to come back to it later)

Wizard n' Slims by rickylee 2023-10-09T01:51:42Z

The Aqua-Eyed Banana by Jerem Watts 2023-10-07T12:00:10Z

Pixel Piles by Gabriel Chan 2023-10-15T21:16:33Z

At first I didn't like the mechanics at all ("I need to bump on a wall far way to rotate? it rotates even when I bump by accident? I can't even move the piece while it's dropping!? how would I even complete a line here!?!?"). But, as I was playing it... the game grew on me a lot :D

The only thing I still don't like, and I kept making mistakes because of it, is that the "next piece" shows the same piece that's already visible above - at first sight it seems to imply that would be the next piece *after* that one.

The worst part of your game is that it's good so I can't make the joke of saying it *sucks* :)

But seriously, everything feels so polished here; I'd say the only thing that took a bit of the fun was that the waves start dragging too long at some point (but maybe it was just me being bad at the game and missing all the power-ups 😅)

Firewall by Mascoll 2023-10-03T01:10:51Z

Oh, another NES game, and not from one of the usual "culprits"... You should consider submitting it to this year's NESdev Compo jam :)

Firewall by Mascoll 2023-10-03T13:05:18Z

@mascoll yes, the compo is very open, not only it's fine to submit games from another jam, you can even start making a game before the jam officially "starts". As long as it is an original NES game and it fits the requirements stated there (*), it's fine :)

(\* requirements are mostly about size (up to 64KB) and specific mappers; submitted games have a chance to become part of a physical multi-cart in the future (**), and the requirements make sure everyone's games are supported and fit on it)

(\*\* but the cart isn't guaranteed - and in fact because of various reasons they are still preparing the cart for the 2019 compo...)

The Big Crunch by Ategon 2023-10-07T14:06:00Z

Tried both versions (jam and postjam) and while I rated based on the former I think everything I would criticize on it was already addressed on the latter. But it was fun playing either one :)

STOP BURYING ME ALIVE, BEAUTIFUL! by robobarbie 2023-10-17T01:42:05Z

Finally played this one - I had seen a glimpse of it on someone's stream a while ago, it seemed so intriguing and beautiful that I stopped watching and saved it on a browser tab to check it later...

As I had thought, the art itself is beautiful; the story was also great, but the card game felt like just a cute random pastime. Now I'm downloading the latest version because I want to replay it to see the other endings, and to see what changes were made to the card game :)

In Search of Space by helluin 2023-10-17T13:31:50Z

The art is very cute; the cave mood was well done with the glowing mushrooms, the sound changing when you get in the water, etc... The gameplay on the other hand felt a bit repetitive with all the going back and forth - I know, it's because of the theme, but still...

BTW I saw people on the comments confused about the "E" button not doing anything. I think when you show a button prompt it's better to make it do something, anything, even if it just shows some text like "Uh, I should put valuable stuff here", or "If I had some fuel I could make this generator work". Otherwise the player may thing there's a problem with the game inputs.

PS: I accidentally killed the yellow thing on my second playthrough, sorry yellow thing 😅

Plummy's Tummy by Little Doctor Games 2023-10-08T13:14:03Z

plummy.png

I liked the art and, most of all, I loved the subtle plot twist that the game doesn't tell you anything about the angels :) You just see "oh, it's a cute dragon eating random food" then suddenly "BE NOT AFRAID" 😅

(I also really like how you made something clearly recognizable as a red bull can with so few pixels)

Tiny Houses by Ethan G 2023-10-04T05:22:45Z

You can add a ludum dare tag to your game on itch - and when doing so it asks the url from here, so it will link this page from over there (I say this because I got the itch link first, then I had to guess the LD url to come here)

Trash.exe by Natano 2023-10-15T14:19:19Z

Nice Park! by Barbabulle 2023-10-12T15:15:47Z

nice-park-2.png

Great game, I like how there's a mix of action and puzzle challenges; I can only wonder how hard must have been to make the physics work so we can push the cars correctly in some of them. Also I love puns in general, so I appreciate that you used so many that you ran out of them :)

That being said...

nice-park.png

... can I never see one of these small cars in my life ever again? 😅

SokoSnake by imontheweb 2023-10-06T15:26:49Z

I may not have played many games on this LD yet, but from the ones I've already seen (either by myself or watching on streams) this seems to be the one that most fits the theme. Having to move in such **limited space** almost gives me anxiety; for now I've solved only the first two puzzles, maybe I'll come back later to try the third one.

(I don't have any new criticism that wasn't already pointed by the others above me)

LD55 — Summoning

Afterlife Taxi by TimBeaudet 2024-04-19T21:40:59Z

The story was very well written (even if a bit short). Only small issue I had (but it's mostly a me problem) is that on my ultrawide display the dialog window covered most of the scenario - but I've managed to "fix" this by just resizing the game window 😅

Echos of Players Past by Jezzamon 2024-04-20T15:53:56Z

I just wanted to say that this mechanics of summoning past players alone makes me want to give 6 stars out of 5 in Innovation :) Now, I know only the winning inputs are saved, but it still surprises me that I managed to finish that level full of buttons and spikes 😅. One small QoL thing I felt missing was a way to restart the level while keeping the same players I had chosen, but it's fine either way (I'm just being lazy, I can - and did - simply memorize their names)

Summoning Circle Specialist by Jimbly 2024-04-28T16:14:29Z

I stopped at level 7 for now (and for some reason level 3 was way harder for me than all the others together 😅). The way you count the cells was clever - if it were me, I'd try to figure out a "geometric" way, fail to do so and give up.

One very small issue I noticed is that the % appears to be rounded, so a score that is almost 80% (the goal) would show as 80% and yet the puzzle wouldn't complete.

Anyway, great entry :)

The Omnomicon by nopogo 2024-04-18T03:53:44Z

I'd never expect the game mechanics of "try to merge two things to see what they turn into" to be used in an horror(?) game.

I only had a small issue that sometimes it was hard to click on stuff - to the point where I thought the seed cards on the plot were already planted 😅 - but once I figured it out it was fine

I liked how the monster seemed to teleport out of view when approaching from far away.

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-28T17:37:37Z

Loved the art and the mechanics, unfortunately I couldn't complete that level where the door is in a small platform surrounded by saws - whenever I teleported right besides it I'd fall to (re)death again and again ;_;

Given how hard it is, I wish there was at least a way to resume playing later, like a level select screen or something (on my first attempt, as soon as I left the first level I thought "wait a minute, it said every level has a lantern... so shouldn't there be a lantern there as well?", then i found I couldn't go back to a previous level unless I restarted the game)

But other than that (and the occasional clipping out of bounds that happened at some points), everything else was very, very good.

Gacha Panic by Squidly 2024-04-20T16:53:20Z

Saw one comment about this looking like a NES game, but for me it feels more like a Game Boy Advance game, I wonder if that's intended :)

Not only the graphics are beautiful, I like the attention to detail, like the base of the characters being an indicator of how damage they took.

Tiny Summons by Jeremy Ryan 2024-04-16T14:24:19Z

One meta-suggestion I have is to try to submit the game to other streamers (https://www.twitch.tv/directory/all/tags/ludumdare), because it would make more likely to have more people playing at once :)

theGRIMOIRE_ by 0x0961h 2024-04-21T16:42:55Z

Finished the 2-x levels, but I'm still stuck on the 1-x ones... I'll check one of the vods to see the solution, but I bet it's something that I just overlooked 😅

But that didn't stop me from enjoying the game; the summoning via moves is a clever mechanic (and it has a very cool UI too).

My Little Demons by Kaish 2024-04-25T02:22:19Z

Diner Dash by OgelGames 2024-04-21T15:17:18Z

I like how much you've conveyed in such few chonky pixels :) About the menus looking like plates, I guess just making them more rectangular instead of square would help (like, 5, maybe even 6 pixels tall instead of 4)

Salmoning by kuviman 2024-04-18T04:13:05Z

Forgot to mention here earlier: one of my favorite things about this game was learning that salmoning is the actual term for what happens in it; for a while I was thinking it was just a random pun away from "summoning" 😅

Funny how one of the bird has music even on their scientific name (Song sparrow / Melospiza melodia), very appropriate for this game :)

The First of the End by Flokami 2024-04-26T13:47:01Z

I saw the comments above about the controls and I was thinking it would be really hard to use the mouse as the two hands are already busy moving and casting spells... but then I had an idea:

Currently you have to type the action then the two parts of the element, and the last input casts the spell, right? That leads to players typing only two thirds of the spell then waiting for the right position to finish casting it. So, what if instead the player is required to type the whole spell to prepare it, then it's the mouse click that actually casts it in a certain direction? Maybe even let the player keep casting the same spell once it's prepared (keeping that cooldown between uses, of course).

Middleman Summons by Jvdwijk 2024-04-21T14:38:42Z

I liked the puzzles, the last level took a bit of "thinking outside the box" when I noticed the path I wanted to create wasn't possible (for a moment I was afraid it would take too long to solve it)

Other than what people already mentioned, one thing that felt a bit weird is that all rotations are counterclockwise, except when going from East to North where it turns all the other way around.

Dungeon Summoner by Pomo 2024-04-18T02:28:55Z

Had a bit of fun playing it. But then I remembered about the jump/float/fly thing and it became way more fun :)

btw there's a typo on the instructions:

Sem título.png

It's not that important, except it was the first line I read so I got confused for a while until I read the rest 😅

Besides that, I...

uh...

... I just got the meaning of the title, we are *summoning* a *dungeon* (I was reading it as a summoner *in* a dungeon 😅😅😅)

Saturna's Hand by parkuhrmd 2024-04-20T15:22:53Z

I liked the mechanics a lot - at least when I finally got the hang of them :) (forgot to capture the screen but I got 6 demons and 512 points)

Only thing that I found a bit weird is that there were two different goals that (apparently) don't talk to each other - the score and the number of demons captured. Maybe the demons should add a large bonus to the score, or failing to capture them should cause a penalty, etc.

This doesn't stop me from thinking this is a very good entry, though. Very polished. :)

ps: I hope you all have a great day too 😁

Make New Friends by Benjamin Halko 2024-04-23T23:05:47Z

Hi, I wanted to try it on mobile, but I can't start the game at all. It asks for the username, but when I tap "username", it temporarily hides the title and show only "username", and less than a second later it goes back to the title.

Captura de tela 2024-04-21 185130.png

One thing that I found a bit counterintuitive is that there's little incentive to actually plant the trees - sure, each tree gives lots of points, but they also increase the difficulty. On my second run I kept farming biomass and power ups for a while then I resumed planting tree only because the easy enemies were too easy by then 😅. A more patient player could just keep playing on easy indefinitely to get a higher score.

Three Sigils by galactical 2024-04-29T16:23:45Z

I loved the different rules and the way the game teaches them :) (I got stuck at some point but playing on the Eternal Suffering room I think I learned the rule I need, I'll go back at it later - more exactly the interaction between blue and green blocks)

I should take a better look at Puzzlescript one of these days - I even thought about the possibility of porting Puzzlescript games to the NES but I fear the whole rules system is too much for me to implement 😅

Mobius by Jerem Watts 2024-04-21T20:41:32Z

@rollcreators I just finished the game, the game ends when you find and play the tape at the very top.

Mobius by Jerem Watts 2024-04-21T20:46:48Z

The game was great, just finished it and played a bit of a second run because I wanted to check some tapes I missed... Which I guess would be one thing I missed: a way to continue after the credits to keep looking for tapes.

I like how the map is spaced in a way to make use of the movement mechanics, it was cool to nyoom around with the long jump :)

Also, one thing I found weird is that apparently there's a limit to how much we can turn around, sometimes I had to spin all the way in the opposite direction to look somewhere (but maybe it's just me, or a side effect of me playing inside a sandbox, I dunno)

Command: Summon by Gastar 2024-04-18T15:34:13Z

Loved this, and I see the terminal seems to be made by someone who uses terminals :)

The game itself doesn't need much more, I think only thing I felt missing was an ending for when we try to spawn multiple enemies, to mirror the ones with multiple rooms, players, and princesses.

Summoner Tycoon by FlyingKaida 2024-04-19T13:34:15Z

@cheesepencil the summons and the walls consume the specific element "runes". When you summon runes it adds a random amount to each element.

Idle Hands by Saryah 2024-04-18T04:04:50Z

Given one of the best points of the game is the dialogues, I think it would be better if the missions were sequencial or if still random, that it wouldn't repeat the same one twice.

Also, crab.

Crab?

Crab.

I've yet to play your game but...

Captura de tela 2024-04-22 094425.png

... your page says it has an HTML5 version and I can't see one on itch, you may want to either add such version or remove that line (otherwise it will incorrectly appear on the [list of games with HTML5 version](https://ldjam.com/tags/platform/web-html5) )

Summonster by Poutine Studio 2024-04-22T17:22:28Z

After playing it... I liked the of summoning different helpers for the platforming (I think it was one of the ideas that crossed my mind before starting my entry). I had some weird issues, like places I couldn't walk or couldn't jump. Also at some point a spider pushed me down the ground and I fell forever, couldn't click on the reset button and had to close the game.

If you're going to keep working on it, I'd recommend balancing the physics so the jumps feel less floaty.

A Following Wind by digitaliliad 2024-04-18T16:32:42Z

This is not really a criticism of your game but it was a bit hard to play it on a touchpad 😅

I saw the other comments and the idea you mentioned of having different directions for the ship and its sail seems very promising.

I found it interesting that we have an experience that is both chill (slow ships, calm music, summoning some winds here and there) and hectic (too many ships to take care of, ships crashing here and there, colliding with each other...) at the same time :)

Chimera Combat by P3ngui 2024-04-22T12:22:25Z

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Traction Bugs by TimBeaudet 2024-10-11T21:38:59Z

As a meta-commentary, I got confused for a bit because the title screen shown here is not in the actual game.

Now, I'm not surprised it's a racing game, but I'd never expected to pilot hundreds of ant-driven cars all at once :) It was fun to try to aim for a flawless run as fast as possible, I just wish there was something tracking the best times (and whether they were flawless). Also, it was cool that the credits were a track on itself.

Vox Regis by Sheepolution 2024-10-19T22:11:43Z

Finally got to play this one, and I liked it a lot :) The random latim gets some extra humor points from me 😁

A funny thing, when I saw the game earlier (either the pictures or streamers playing it) I had found the buildings kinda familiar, but it took me reading your post-mortem to figure out they were from Townscaper 😅 .

The whole way you composed the screen to make the king look down on those tiny people was very cool (I kinda wanna "steal" the color reduction trick in a future LD entry, don't know how much it'll work with the NES palette though).

Finished my first run with 7 speeches. Then I tried two more runs, but I got greedy and lost both after two speeches, hahaha. Did anyone else finished with less than 7?

TINY PACK by xk_the_name 2024-10-14T16:44:10Z

The only complaint I have is that you made this in 48h as a compo game instead of taking months and making it a longer game hahaha /jk

But seriously now, I loved everything, from the dice-shaped animals to the different challenges... The dice effects even seem to combo with each other (like, A re-rolls B with increases C...).

DWARFS by Jimbly 2024-10-16T23:03:14Z

Just so you know, the HTML5 link (on the proper submission links field) is pointing to the post-jam version:

Captura de tela 2024-10-16 195155.png

(but I did play the compo version, linked in the middle of the description)

It took me a while to grasp the DWARFS system but I liked it. The risk-and-reward situation of having to choose between dismantling and shipping was interesting.

One thing I didn't quite get is the endless mode. I mean, endless modes usually end anyway when the player loses the game, but here there isn't a lose condition is there? Other than closing the game (which I did after I finished the 3rd planet), does it really never ends? Or was I just impatient and it's possible to lose at it? (sorry if that was the case 😅)

I don't think I even knew this console existed until I saw your entry as the only one in the [Nintendo (other)](https://ldjam.com/tags/platform/nintendo) platform 😅

Although I have already too many unfinished NES stuff I should work on... I'm kinda curious about this thing, maybe I'll try playing with it someday (I'll bookmark this page just in case, your source code and references will be helpful).

PS: My best score was almost 90 points.

Friends Adrift by Samuli 2024-10-12T21:39:04Z

I'll need to stop playing for now because I keep failing the 3rd stage 😅 Worked great on PCSX-Redux, which I just downloadeed.

Sadly it didn't play any sound on the JavaScript emulators I tried before it - otherwise I would be tempted to jump on the PSX bandwagon next LD (I'd like people to be able to play and rate without needing to download an emulator)

I think any criticism that I could bring was already mentioned before: I wish there weren't gaps between tiles that don't require jumping, but other than that the platform gameplay was great.

Cellspace: Cellular Automata Sandbox by loveapplegames 2024-10-18T17:42:28Z

Hi, I got curious when I saw a post on the feed and started playing this, but I think I found 2 bugs.

First: on Level 2 I'm not able to pick the "~" for the rules, which seems to be required for a "solution". Unless the idea is to do some workaround solution with the other characters, but then it's too tricky for a Level *2*.

Captura de tela 2024-10-18 143901.png

Second: I tried playing Level 4, and apparently one of my rules moved X to the left, outside the grid, then the game stopped responding. I couldn't even press restart.

Cellspace: Cellular Automata Sandbox by loveapplegames 2024-10-19T12:08:47Z

@loveapplegames oh, okay then - i thought "follow the trail" meant "change rules so the ~ follows the : towards the o instead of spreading everywhere" 😅

Time to address some specific comments...

But first, thank you everyone for your kind words :)

> @magopian: (...) The floatiness of the controls wasn’t very fun for me at least, but maybe it’s part of the idea of the game? (...)

> @samuli: (...) Heaviness of the movement was a bit much (...)

The floatiness was a bit intentional yes. I have no experience with a microscope, but I had used a small telescope a long time ago, and more recently a camera with x20 zoom, and in both cases it's hard to move exactly where you want to. Although TBH in those cases it's more "overshooting" than "floatiness". The exact parameters I used were **not intentional** though, I would've balanced them if I had more time (the current acceleration, max speed and drag were pretty much the first or second guesses I made)

> @andreia: (...) A small improvement could be to show the controls (...)

I'm not against the idea of showing controls, but it's a bit complicated to do it in my case 😅 (for LD54 I tried this by making two separate builds, one that shows the NES controls and another for the WebGL emulator showing keyboard keys)

> @euler-moises: (...) Há um final? (...)

> @moonlightbomber: Looks like this is the only NES game for LD56, based from my itch.io search (...)

You can also check the Platforms page here on LD: https://ldjam.com/tags/platform/nintendo-famicom (admittedly it's a very hidden page; if it wasn't already on my browser history I couldn't even tell you how to find it 😅). Sometimes I check it to see which unusual platforms got entries; I collected some from this LD here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/petri-plate-potpourri/entries-for-unusual-platforms-ld-56-edition (there's even a game for the Pokémon Mini console, which I didn't know was a thing)

@pov I don't know if you'll read this but this Exa user is spamming comments on multiple entries. I just clicked on a handful of the top graded entries and there's almost always a generic comment by them. Most of the comments are the literal string "Nice game, very interesting plot!!!!Nice job!!!!" but I've seen a couple of variations (including the one above).

Petri Plate Potpourri by Wendel Scardua 2024-10-26T03:53:45Z

@sebbernery I have a question, did you say you lost immediately after an error happened? Because that isn't supposed to happen, and I never saw it happening to anyone else; the game does track mistakes and ends after 3 errors across all plates in a run. I wonder if it's a bug on the virtual console emulator...

Peculiar Pickings by Dis0rder 2024-10-12T06:13:20Z

It's 3am. I should be sleeping. Why am playing this nightmare inducing game? (affectionate)

It may not have a win/lose condition or anything, but it's still an intriguing toy...

BTW other than the bug mentioned above where a creature gets stuck in the hand, I had also a bug where, after I moved the mouth, I couldn't move it back anymore.

Triflings by Squidly 2024-10-12T01:03:52Z

Funny how I had the same experience as Wind1e above - lost the game with a couple of different characters, then finally won with Christabel 😅

I don't think I have anything to add here in the comments. The only issue I had was a lack of a way to focus on the spawn point... Then I re-read the description and I found I totally forgot about the spacebar, hahaha.

Fry Quest by Togis 2024-10-12T03:29:18Z

You know what you did? I was supposed to be playing more entries, but now I'm reading an article about the Belgian fries ( this one, which includes a recipe: https://tastecooking.com/belgium-fries-never-wimpy-sorry-america/ )

The art is great, audio idem, potato puns were the best :)

Sammich by ColeSlaughter 2024-10-09T01:38:41Z

I guess the only thing I can complain about is that you all keep making it more and more difficult for me to find something to criticize 😅

I'm only saddened by the fact that I keep getting worse at this game (I got to 11th place; then I tried going for the 10th and instead got bumped down to 12th, and from that I proceeded to never get to 4k again)

My Keyboard is Full of Ants! by Jeremy Ryan 2024-10-16T05:25:47Z

ants.png

This was one of my favorite games, although somehow I got this score on my second run and have gotten worse results ever since 😅

The only thing that stops the game from being perfect is that it still gives one round of "choose an upgrade" at the end, when the upgrades won't do anything (although the fact that one of the upgrades was just coffee tells me that this may be intentional somehow).

Play With Me by gord10ahmet 2024-10-15T16:20:48Z

I guess the only small criticism I could bring was already mentioned on the other comments above: - the bug during the notes minigame (for a moment I got confused as to why I had failed it) - I wish it was a bit longer to lower our guard and slowly tease that there's something "wrong" going on (but on the other hand this is like 4 games in one, it was probably a lot to make during a weekend already)

Anyway, I liked it for what it is :)

PS: I came from the post-mortem, and... I find it weird that people missed the "Z X C" prompt at the bottom of the game - I wonder if, were the letters written directly on the buttons or near them as label, people would be less or more prone to miss it.

Animal Golfing by Andreadbx 2024-10-12T05:06:23Z

Lots of great things here, the UI, the art, even the little dance on the title screen. The whole thing feels polished. I'm just sad that I'm really bad at it so I couldn't enjoy it more (I'll keep the game around, maybe I'll keep trying it later).

Sprite Containment by epb9000 2024-10-16T14:45:00Z

First a meta-comment: funny how above me are comments from 8 days ago, 8 hours ago, and 8 minutes ago.

And now the comment I wanted to write: you wrote "I’ll upload an HTML version after work" but it seems you never actually did it 😅 I'll need to play the native version for now.

Sprite Containment by epb9000 2024-10-16T20:27:59Z

@epb9000 thanks, although I ended up playing the Windows version already 😅

I played until level 15, I assume it just keeps going, right? At that point I just gave up because the sprites kept stopping all my walls 😅

I think it would be more fun if: - the walls were a bit faster, and/or, - the sprites didn't change direction all the time (like, they could almost always bounce on walls perfectly, then every once in a while change the bounce direction)

... so the player has more chances of placing walls successfully.

(but maybe the point of them being sprites instead of balls is exactly because they can move more erratically? 🤔)

PS: the level skip buttons were a nice addition :)

Sprite Containment by epb9000 2024-10-19T19:15:55Z

@epb9000 oh, so they do have specific behaviors... I had the impression there was something going on but never connected the sprites with the movements so I just chalked it up as being purely random 😅

Shrew by LightningST 2024-10-10T02:55:19Z

Pausing in the middle of playing it to tell I found a typo: pygmy rabbit says "the sum of the first **the** digits" instead of "the sum of the first **three** digits"

I'll go back to playing it now :)

Shrew by LightningST 2024-10-10T16:58:25Z

I went to sleep after I finished it and forgot to submit my comments 😅

I really liked the whole game (in particular the code puzzle). I can't even think of a something that I could say like "hey, [...] would be better if [...]". Details like the the outline for interactable stuff, or the panning to the statue everytime a riddle was solved, were very welcome.

(btw I just searched for pictures of the Etruscan Shrew and... how can it be so tiny? You really picked the best animal for the theme :) )

Fear of the Ungnome by Scott Steffes 2024-10-11T23:06:32Z

Loved this game, even though I still haven't figured out all the puzzles (but I'm still trying; the last room when all colors are the same is one such case (no spoilers please)).

In other news I was happy that I got to finish it in 31s:

ungnome.png

... only to come to the comments section and have my happiness crushed 😅

Multimorph by Shakedimus 2024-10-14T16:18:53Z

This was my best score so far (and on the first try - every other run since then I had worse scores hahaha)

I'm amazed that you've managed to make all your mechanics out of automata rulesets, it was fun noticing the little "gliders" that show up sometimes.

Shadow of the itty-bitties by Kaish 2024-10-10T02:00:01Z

Baby Race by kuviman 2024-10-09T17:13:05Z

I've yet to figure out the strategy here, but it was fun to race with other people anyway.

PS: I just noticed the adults at the bottom are looking away from the babies 😅

One small complaint I have is that at some point it get a bit tiring to drag 200 buildings from the top left to wherever I want to place them 😅 (at some point I just button-mashed over there directly then started placing platforms right below them)

G-news by Aune 2024-10-13T00:13:48Z

Very fun and funny entry, and the music was amazing :) Got an audience of over 1.7 million (1,760,000 iirc)

Now, it's gnome by everyone that gnomes don't exist, but I think you could have put some gnomes (fictional, of course) in your game to make it fit the Tiny Creatures theme. [insert twitch Kappa emote here]

Kumamushi no Samurai by Codeman1010 2024-10-11T03:56:36Z

Your tardigrade samurai is a pretty cool design :)

I wish there were opportunities to block, unless I did something wrong I didn't seem to need to block attacks until the end of the game.

Gnomin' by Jvdwijk 2024-10-14T21:17:38Z

One thing I liked is that, while the movement is getting-over-it-like, and some parts of the map seem designed for that salty feeling of accidentally losing progress, it is still somewhat friendly thanks to the checkpoints. One thing I never got the hang on (pun not intended but not unwelcome) were the hooks. Most of them I couldn't hook to, and when I did hook, it didn't seem to be touching the pickaxe at all.

I finished with 15/20 wisps, but for some reason the collectibles page still says I got zero :(

gnoming.png

(well, at least I got to enter on the top 10 leaderboard... for now)

Looking forward to the post-jam version (even though I know I'll be as bad at it as I was here 😅)

BoroPoro by Pomo 2024-10-11T02:06:35Z

I would never ship QWOP with LocoRoco, even less expect them to have a child, but here we are :)

I'm so far from mastering the controls, but sometimes it clicked and it was satisfying to move around... only for me to get confused between left and right mouse buttons and then the run was lost 😅 . At least I'm ok with my score of 7 for now.

And I'm still not sure what kills the Jamos. There's times it's a instakill, other times I'm just taking them to a walk along the stage...

One thing I felt missing was some sort of audible cue when a tiny creature got eaten - and another cue for when it is in danger would be even more welcome.

Miku's Minion Madness by Miku 2024-10-13T00:55:23Z

I lost during the 3rd round, but had fun anyway. I saw people commenting that they wanted to see the creatures on the field but I actually liked the tiny squares :) But I did wish there was some kind of animation or something showing the cards the enemy used before their units appeared on the field, so we may learn what their tiny squares represent.

LEAF SLURPERS - tiny creatures by Tankou 2024-10-19T20:12:59Z

I liked how the "enemies" (the water drop, the wind indicator leaf, even the bug's back) had evil/skull faces on them (I didn't notice any markings on the wasps, but everyone already know wasps are evil 😅)

Lil' Demons by MorePixels 2024-10-09T23:50:16Z

lil-demon.png

Got the same 320 points twice in a row. I guess I won't be reaching the dev high score of 400 😅

I didn't dislike the skeleton per se, but I feel that maybe part of the map doesn't "connect" with the rest of the game - like, you want to do everything as fast as possible but then you need to stop and wait until the skeleton slowly moves away from your path. Didn't stop me from playing a handful of runs though :)

Mon - Shared Pet Simulator by Andreia 2024-10-10T01:26:12Z

I liked this idea of having multiplayer but it's people coming and going and taking care of the same pet, no need to join lobbies or connect at the same time, etc... I just wish there was more to it than just pressing buttons whenever they're available, but I guess you've already got plenty of comments about that 😅 The details added to the cat animation were cute, though :)

Da Eg Hatcha by itsBoats 2024-10-12T19:55:03Z

The mechanics should have made this a rage-inducing game, but the cute characters make the journey way more pleasant :)

Got all characters and later all the money (I almost thought the first one could not be reached 😅).

Blob, To the Top! by MetRiko 2024-10-14T20:40:04Z

The last level was so tense, I almost thought I wouldn't make it in time (ended up saving 11/10 blobs). Very fun, very polished...

I was going to say that only thing I wish it was there was a way to see your scores across the levels and to be able to replay them (for example, to try getting the missed golden blobs, or even just to beat the previous times), but seeing in the comments that the original goal was to have one single tall level it kinda makes sense to not have that.

Tiny Ducks by osh.studio 2024-10-10T19:26:46Z

As a meta-commentary I find it funny how many people as asking you guys to keep working on the game when you already said you don't wanna make a card game ever again 😅 (but it's your fault for making such a great duckbuilding game)

Thanks for making characters revive between rooms, otherwise I probably wouldn't have beaten the game on my first try.

The graphics are very good, I liked the art slightly leaving the frame of the cards like the Fireball one.

PS: I played two runs. Funnily I got multiple Heal cards during the second run, but I never saw any on the first one - I even thought about asking why there was no way to heal 😅

Gob by rickylee 2024-10-09T03:49:02Z

This is probably the only entry I'll rate Frog/5 (poor worm, though)

Neckmeat's Tiny Adventure by Jerem Watts 2024-10-11T07:07:03Z

After a handful of attempt I almost gave up, kept losing to some question where both options were bad... Then I said, ok, one last time (bc it's almost 4am here, why am I still awake?), and finally got to survive the whole week (this seemed to be a way too realistic simulation of a work week now that I think about it)

I really liked the weird 3d paper people, and I bet it would be way better with that mp4 background going on...

Somehow I enjoyed the vibes of just answering nonsense questions with nonsense answers and effects (I don't know how random are the effects, but I never saw the chicken nugget question affecting my chicken nuggets lol).

Critter Quest by FlyingKaida 2024-10-11T22:08:48Z

I'm in the middle of playing the game, but I came here to say that for some reason this dialogue was mirrored 😅

critter-quest.png

(don't know if it's a bug or intentional)

So far I think the first boss fight was interesting :)

One issue I have, is that either the sound effects are too loud, or the music is too quiet.

Critter Quest by FlyingKaida 2024-10-11T22:10:30Z

Forgot to say: I really like how the "attack" persists for a bit after pressing the button, makes it easier to hit the enemies :)

Window Creatures by Ategon 2024-10-12T02:33:41Z

At some point coins were spawning right after I got them 😅

Everything being so polished, I only wish it saved the progress between runs.

Relics Return - Point and Click Adventure by Cassreads 2024-10-14T22:43:41Z

@tyrannas I had the same bug as you when trying to use the polished gem... But I've found out that if you double tap space (to open and close the inventory in sequence) it frees the mouse.

Birbs Chat by SpaghettiCupcake 2024-10-08T20:40:52Z

My suggestion seems to have backfired, sorry (but at least I got to play it enough to rate it)

Skyfall by Sevadusk 2024-10-10T17:56:56Z

skyfall.png

One thing I found that takes a bit of the fun is that moving sideways feels kinda slow - which wouldn't be a problem on itself, except the game gets fast really quick. With a field that large, maybe the mouse could help control the horizontal position.

But it was still fun, I even got a leaderboard-worthy score :)

Tiny Trails by Custodi 2024-10-10T19:46:21Z

I liked the aspect of having to figure out how to move each creature, and how they interacted with each other (I avoided reading the spoilers :) )

Bakudan Baku-tan by TwinkleSoft 2024-10-08T01:52:18Z

The game itself was very fun, it felt very polished... The only thing I think it's missing is a way to see our final score - when I died the game went right back to the title screen, so I don't know how many points I had.

(em pt_BR: o jogo em si é bem divertido, pareceu bem polido... a única coisa que achei que faltou é um jeito de ver o placar final, quando eu morri o jogo voltou direto pra tela de título então não sei quantos pontos eu fiz)

The Great Dangling by magopian 2024-10-10T18:17:30Z

I liked the voices :) I wish there was a bit more of a challenge (e.g. player having to figure out and remember what matches with what instead of it being always selected, or at least the spiky thingy showing up on any level before the last one) but it's fine as it is now.

Speaking of the spiky thingy, I had some issues with the game not restarting after I got prickled by it (well, at least it's a short game so I just replayed it all over again 😅)

Koi by A Priori 2024-10-10T17:33:34Z

I think I'm satisfied with my (future) placement on the leaderboard (for now)

koi.png

I need to stop playing for now because it is addicting 😅 Not only the game itself is good, but it's very quick to do "just one more" attempt... But alas I still need to play and rate more entries.

PS: I love that the logo shows the koi reaching for the food :)

LD57 — Depths

Can't rate it but I gotta say that 1. I liked it a lot (thanks for adding checkpoints instead of making it foddian, otherwise I probably wouldn't finish it for a while) and 2. I bet my presence on the leaderboard won't last even a day 😅

A New Hell by Kaish 2025-04-24T18:01:41Z

Deep Fry by thyoi 2025-04-24T21:17:28Z

Loved how quickly everything became chaotic. Felt very dumb when the boss asked for a timer tempura; I thought I had to, like, combine the ingredients to make the shape of the timer 😅, only when a following order asked for a coin tempura the penny dropped (pun partially intended)

Claustroom by Wendel Scardua 2018-04-24T03:59:32Z

@creepyounguy thanks for your comment. I tried to think about some way to enable moving blocks to empty spaces, but without sacrificing the swap mechanics (which I like because it makes things harder than if I allowed any two blocks to be swapped) but I've ran out of time so I didn't implement it :( (At least I've managed to draw some nice cubes on Blender, almost at the end of the Jam)

I've seen a post of yours on the LD blog, my first thought being "hey, someone else had the same idea-ish!"... I'll play it right now :)

Claustroom by Wendel Scardua 2018-04-24T04:16:23Z

@Bodaciouslycrazy Thanks! I had the same complaints/thoughts (mainly the sensitivity), but I had no time to do it for the jam. I think I'll try to these and other things on my free time and then upload to Gamejolt or something.

Claustroom by Wendel Scardua 2018-05-03T03:03:31Z

@weekend-panda you've described the same idea I had after the jam: some limited ability to pull blocks, maybe earned by making N matches or something. Without it, the game is too hard, with unlimited pulls it became too easy. (I'm trying to make it better in my free time)

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-04-26T00:48:02Z

I liked a lot of the games on this jam, but this one is the first that made me think "wow, I'd buy (a version with maybe more levels of) this!"

ps: I really loved the way the title zooms into the first level

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-24T04:33:09Z

I liked this idea, a lot, but I think the rhythm part would be better if other game parts followed it. For example, the health bars should pulse with the expected rhythm (unless they already are and I'm just bad at rhythm games), maybe some enemy patterns could follow the beat, etc.

Witch's Escape by cristiano.m.garcia 2018-04-24T04:43:36Z

Cool art everywhere, from the game sprites to your team's logo :)

The only things that bothered me are the "How to play", which doesn't match the actual controls, and the fact that sometimes I could mash the buttons and solve the puzzles before they appeared on screen.

Operation Alien Translation by Sheepolution 2026-04-25T22:05:00Z

On my run I think I only got the fourth symbol, which meant "above". The game felt very complete, fun and funny.

Now that I think about it, this reminds me of another jam game from some previous event; don't remember the name and the mechanics aren't that much similar, but it had this concept of the player doing the association word-symbol themself and having to keep track of those.

@coleslaughter @conduit-games @embedder72 about an undo queue/stack, as of now it's pretty much unfeasible. I mean, if I ever decide to polish and do a proper release of this game I may consider the idea but like Jared said it's very hard to implement if it wasn't planned from the start. Even more so in a limited environment where I can't just save the whole game state every step. (... or can't I? hm... 🤔)

But I think at least allowing the player to cancel the script if they made a mistake would already do wonders to usability (or, with a proper tutorial, I could make Select/Start be the Prepare/Send buttons, then "B" could be the backspace/cancel button... and maybe "A" could be a new action, who knows).

> I think the level difficultly ramps up a bit too fast. Yeah, as I wrote in the description, the difficulty doesn't much ramps, it goes on a rollercoaster 😅. But I intended (and may even do it in the future) to have some sort of "2D" level progression: each level unlocks one in the front and one below, with levels on the same row using the same concept in progressively harder puzzles while each row introduces a different concept.

> Also, it lacks much audio and I do love me some audio. It does. It does lack audio a lot. I need some help with that.

@Emsea thanks for this very detailed feedback.

I just want to mention two funny(?) things:

- About the gate blocking signals, it actually wasn't my original plan. I did think about letting it pass through the gaps... and now I don't remember why I ended up not doing just that. oops😅 - About the robot colors, I *did* start designing the yellow robot with the intention of it being the player, and then just applied some random palette and called those sprites "other robot" (like, I had RobotIdle1 and OtherRobotIdle1, etc). But it felt dumb to have to double every sprite just to recolor it, so I made the software recolor the sprite instead. Given the only different robot was the player, I ended up keeping the original color for the other robots, and only the player got recolored. If I ever make a post jam version (and the feedback I'm getting is making it more and more likely), I'll be sure to make the player be yellow again as intended.

> Realmente a música faz muita falta! Pra você ter uma ideia eu liguei uma playlist de NES aqui pra entrar na onda. Estava valendo qualquer coisas pra não torrar a cabeça no silêncio absoluto. Já sabe quem chamar na próxima.

Sim, mil vezes sim.

Principalemte do meio pra frente.

you're welcome :)

I like how the other levels have some kind of error tolerance just by the fact that, as long as we understand the message, it's fine (not just because I kept missing some letters 😅)

I wonder if TAS is really as fun as your game makes it seem to be. Kinda wanna try doing it with my NES games (I've found that someone already did it to some of them 😅)

I loved it, the way the instructions are given and easily understood, the well placed challenges, the cute art... I think the only thing I didn't like much is what another comment already said, it feels bad when momentum makes the drone fall out of range - but I guess it's just a matter of "git gud" 😅

Gotta say I agree with the sentiment of other players, this is a great entry, very polished. You all should do this hot potato challenge for more jams :) (says me, having no idea how hard it was to coordinate this)

There were only very few things I wasn't a fan, like having to wait the whole level to rotate to free me from my prison 😅

I'm still playing it, and having fun, but I wanted to tell about a funny bug I found: the game keeps running after the Game Over screen, so eventually the zombies all die and the screen changes to "You Won".

Hi, I'm still reading the PDF (and the whole game looks interesting so far - I'd never think I'd ever be interested in the journaling aspect but I kinda wanna try it now), but I paused just to tell I found a typo (I think):

> If you didn’t fully comprehend the Snippet, total up the value of the cards that **weren’t** removed from the Snippet, then total the cards still in the Snippet. Is the total of the cards removed less than the Snippet total

I think that *"weren't"* was supposed to be *"were"*, right? (because the cards that weren't removed are the same as the ones still in the Snippet, unless I misunderstood something)

PS: why did you opt out of the "graphics" rating? Surely the PDF counts as graphics, and it's very well illustrated.

The only bad thing about this game is that it ends.

Reading the comments, it's funny that I was not the only one who forgot for a moment that we could stop for a beat, luckly one of the earlier levels requires it to progress.

@lllarso

> @wendel-scardua Under 100 deaths after bonus levels is quite good. Thank you for the kind words.

I must confess I changed it to "easy" at some point because I kept missing notes (probably I just didn't calibrate it correctly)

I think I can stop for now 😅. It was funny that at first I would lay down dozens of "X"s and had to dig them myself because they didn't dig them for me fast enough, but by the end even when I tried spreading them across the beach they were sooo fast, most of them didn't even need to move to clean them up.

Checking the other comments, I guess I don't have any feedback that wasn't already given, so I'll just say I loved the groan-inducing puns 😅

Gasp Away! by Emsea 2026-04-26T14:52:28Z

One thing I don't get i why the game embedded here is different from the one downloadable on itch:

- here, the letter graphics are simpler - and yet the word count works - and it's easier to see if a letter is partially coded - the .exe at itch draws cards for each letter - and yet the word count is always zero - and it's less clear where we are in the letter

Is the .exe supposed to be a "post jam" version?

PS: why only now I got that "gasp away" is a pun on "cast away" 😅 I even told Kuvi the Wilson was a Cast Away reference....

@emsea got it... I had thought it was either that you had updated the exe after the deadline, or that you had forgotten to update the html before the deadline; I totally forgot about the third, secret option (Murphy's Law) 😅

Funny how, even if I don't know the language itself, I recognize it as toki pona 😅. I assume the glyphs are random toki pona words as well? I tried playing this but I'm not coordinated enough to score more than 1 point, apparently.

Out of curiosity I tried to search if there was a CHIP-8 emulator for the NES and someone already did it (as the person who keeps making NES games for LD, the thought of making such emulator crossed my mind 😅)

CyberSignal by RIKOw 2026-04-26T18:25:12Z
