By far the best game I've played so far. Nice art style, great audio work and actually really fun. Great work.

starven 2018-08-13 14:49

Love it, love the minimalist graphic style, love the music and especially love the concept. So far easily one of my favourite games from this years Ludum Dare.

bennyqbd1 2018-08-13 14:53

Pretty fun and quite challenging. I love how the concept is so simple, yet it can be taken really far. Great atmosphere too

handle 2018-08-13 15:47

This is a fantastic idea. I love the minimal aesthetic and the gameplay is so clever. I also appreciate that they stop at size 42. Honestly, this could be a great mobile game or something (though the controls might be a bit difficult to figure out). I could see this growing into something even better. Definitely one of the most enjoyable games I've found so far. Well done!

beard-or-die 2018-08-14 02:53

All fives. The menu, the pause screen, the gameplay, the challenge, the sound, the mood, the insane amount of levels. Holy crap! This is amazing. Great job.

jegus9 2018-08-15 13:40

Very good for a compo entry. You also game some attention to the UI features (the sfx/vgm bars), most compo games overlook those details. The minimalistic graphics were a good choice because they're simple to execute.

This isn't a game issue but I couldn't get past stage 3. I think it's a good idea to record a gameplay video of your game and make a blog post with it, it'll help you promote your art. Overall, good job, hope you make it to the top 100 in the compo at least.

shess 2018-08-15 22:38

Beautiful game, nicely crafted and balanced. The motion is fluid, and the color palette is perfect for long playing sessions. Awesome job!

subsage 2018-08-15 23:53

I think the level design here is fantastic. Level 4 hit me really nicely with how creative you had to be to design out interesting levels. Good stuff all around :D

iamsodarncool 2018-08-16 00:28

Lovely game! Very creative - and fun - game mechanics and take on the theme. The graphics are really slick, especially the dissolve transitions, and I love how almost every level has something unique about it.

However, my enjoyment of the game was somewhat ruined the the lack of ability to restart. If you trap yourself in a position where you can't win, you can't just click a button or tap a key to restart, you have to kill yourself. And when you die, it's a solid second or two before the level actually restarts. These breaks in the action really add up. If they weren't there, I would have finished the game for sure, but by level 11 I was so frustrated by them that I had to quit :/

akusan 2018-08-16 09:45

This is one of the best games I played so far. The gameplay is fun, unique, and interesting. I could see this into an actual published game for hand held devices or even consoles or PC lol. Great job on the innovation on the theme and making a well polished game. Thanks for sharing!

agwblack 2018-08-16 13:00

Just brilliant on every level. Love the minimalist aesthetic. The best thing though is how every level is a new iteration, a new twist on the basic mechanic. Really well done.

wfmg 2018-08-16 13:45

Really cool! I found it a bit too difficult, but I liked it a lot! Good game!

smurf 2018-08-16 18:49

High Fives all round. Great concept, simple game brilliantly executed. Great work.

lndrstrll 2018-08-16 19:53

Amazing game! i love the minimal look, music and everything else :black_circle:

keyurrana 2018-08-16 21:23

Amazing game. Nice minimalist art, simple gameplay mechanic, very polished. Also music and sounds are cool too. Great job for a compo game!

iwa 2018-08-17 14:22

Smart idea and good execution. To be honest it becomes too hard for me after the two first levels but it's as addictive as it's frustrating so it's all good. Good job.

weine 2018-08-17 14:33

A fantastic compo game. By focusing on innovative game mechanics instead of unnecessary graphics or sound, you have created one of the most fun compo games I've played so far. Impressive how you have just kept adding more and more mechanics to the basic idea.

Wonderful game!

demn 2018-08-17 15:02

Pretty nice game. That's a good take on the theme, and I really like how you just used the concept to make a shitload of levels with new mecanics that keep on surprising us. I really liked the fact we can hear different version of the sample for the shooting sound, adds some layers to the game and doesn't make a stupid noise during the play. Very good job !

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 15:13

Fantastic entry, simple geometric but works perfectly, the ambient music does add up the mood for the game. GJ. I think sometimes when the circles overlap, the texts also overlap, which is fine for me but if you want it to look pretty (to match up with the polished level of the game), maybe adding a white outline for the text? Just my 2 cents.

18.png

Really enjoy the game, unique mechanic, fits the theme perfectly, lots of levels to play. I really cant beat many levels, I checked out some of the last levels and they are really really difficult, I think you did a good job with putting enough levels for everyone to try according to their skills. I dont know if you have a button to go back to main menu, I might have missed that so I always have to refresh the browser every time I want to go back. Would love to watch someone playing through all of your levels, do post an update if someone does hehe.

randomphantom 2018-08-17 17:00

@nam-nguyen I agree I don't like the looks of the overlapping text so yes, planning a white outline, great suggestion! You can press spacebar to pause and there's a button to quickly exit to the main menu. Yes, the later levels are intentionally full on crazy especially the last level :red_circle:

@handle @akusan this was actually inspired by a mobile game (Hundreds), however twin stick controls are going to be a challenge on mobile. Thanks for the encouragement!

@iamsodarncool that's a great suggestion actually - a quick restart button. Looking to add that in the post-jam!

@jegus9 @iwa yes level 3 is where it starts to get really tight fitting and slightly bullet hell-ish. My strat is spreading out shots between the circles and not be boxed in the four corners, while choosing the right targets to shoot and hopefully not get squished!

Also @demn @weine @keyurrana @lndrstrll @smurf @wfmg @agwblack @subsage @shess @beard-or-die @samoatesgames @starven @bennyqbd1 thanks for checking out the game!

chaoclypse 2018-08-17 17:34

Brilliant! Super fun. If this doesn't get to top 10 overall I'll be very surprised.

roidz 2018-08-17 17:55

way more in this game then you would think at first sight. Excellent job

wendel-scardua 2018-08-17 17:56

This is really cool, mainly how you take a simple mechanic and improve on it as the levels go by...

nufflee 2018-08-17 18:03

Really interesting game and a unique take on the theme! I could absolutely see something like this on mobile or even PC. Very minimalistic and fun!

stefan-jovanovic 2018-08-18 14:49

Nice and minimalistic! One of the most polished games in the compo I have seen so far!

Keep up the good work!

daniel-rincon 2018-08-18 16:01

Wow! the game feel so polished, nice implementation of the theme, nice sound and sfx, nice graphics. Congratulations! Keep it up!

mike-inprinciple 2018-08-18 22:59

I got as far as a few levels in. My primary problem with this game is the inconsistency in the UX communication. Some level have balls that have physics, some don't. Some shrink over time with physics, some don't. Some levels need you to complete all balls to 42, some don't. This put me off of the game quite a bit. I think I would have appreciated different aesthetics for "balls" with different properties, so I would have been able to attempt to successfully resolve the levels before the dev forced failure on me as a user, just so I could understand what was expected of me.

sebastian-m 2018-08-19 03:22

One of the best puzzle games I've seen. Not just in the jam but ever. Is amazing the way you introduce new mechanics as the level progress and then combine them to make them even more difficult. The UI is slick and the sounds fits very well.

Overall, one of the best entries I've seen in the gamejam. Amazing job!

matank 2018-08-19 05:46

Great puzzle game, and amazing how much actual content you've managed to create in 48 hours!

eduardo-yukio 2018-08-19 17:51

Definitely the best game I've played here on Ludum Dare. The game design is marvellous, you introduce the mechanics in a nice manner and then combine them to make challenging but not unfair levels. Very fun and rewarding! It inspired me to, someday, make a game like this, all alone, simple, but awesome. The only thing that bothered me was level 34 was very laggy, even if I disabled the post processing =(

prodigalson 2018-08-21 03:06

Very interesting puzzle game and so well implemented. I like the simple nature of it and deceitful as you really do have to use your nogging to win the later levels. Controls felt good, if not a bit fast on the acceleration, but satisfying to fly and shoot.

randomphantom 2018-08-21 15:57

@nam-nguyen check out https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299083899 at the 2 hour mark, he beats all of the levels :heart_exclamation:

@mike-inprinciple I agree that the inconsistency might throw some off although the variety of mechanics (and the trollish nature of some of it) was totally intended. Maybe a little more aesthetics to differentiate the various ball states would help, thanks for the great feedback!

@eduardo-yukio yes level 34 can be quite taxing with so many bouncing rigidbodies, thanks for bearing with it! (its not the best designed level and I was clearly running out of steam at that point)

@prodigalson @matank @sebastian-m @daniel-rincon @stefan-jovanovic @nufflee @wendel-scardua @roidz @chaoclypse thanks for playing and glad that you liked it :smile:

shakedimus 2018-08-21 16:32

Very nice way of incorporating the theme it's kind of a mix between a puzzle and action game. The simplistic art style and music makes it a very clean experience and it's fun on top of that. It's crazy you made this many levels which are really different. Great job man!

cristihkj 2018-08-21 17:21

Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D

wabble 2018-08-21 18:02

pretty cool game! Music is nice, and it takes patience and strategy to beat the levels

ctrble 2018-08-22 03:36

Oh wow, I really loved this one! The art was perfect, the sound felt right, and your take on the theme was very cool. The idea of a twin stick puzzler like that is pretty neat, and you did a great job on it!

gudval 2018-08-22 14:26

This is great. I won't repeat what other comments already said but I really appreciated the details in your graphics, like the transitions, the glowing effect, the movements... I found it rather hard to play with a pad, guess I'll have to borrow somebody's mouse if I want to reach further levels.

vekstr 2018-08-23 06:25

Thanks for the 30 minutes of fun (first 34 levels) **and** the 60-90 minutes of *frustration* at the last level, which I ultimately gave up on :anger:

I mean, there's ***no way*** that was pure physics, was it? The whole thing felt like a living thing whose only purpose in life was to kill me...

radical-dog 2018-08-23 14:01

Superb game. The ship is a touch on the twitchy side for my taste, but otherwise really excellent.

jiri-hysek 2018-08-23 15:55

Wow, this is awesome! Great use of the theme, minimalist art style looks very nice, it plays well... great entry!

randomphantom 2018-08-23 16:56

@vekstr So sorry for sapping your time on that last level - it was intentionally over-the-top nuts being the final level. The balls do chase you a bit there but otherwise the spin cycle flinging blocks at you is all Unity physics and totally intended lol. One possible strategy would be to clean up the blocks first, get the spinning block close to fully extended and just try to focus your shots on the balls and be mindful where you land the last blow on the balls. Otherwise, I think I might tone this down in a future update as I need a few tries myself to beat it!

@radical-dog I agree that the ship speed needs a little tuning, along with the balls - they are a little challenging to dodge at the moment!

@gudval this really needs a mouse (i'd be amazed if you could make it that far with a trackpad!)

@ctrble @shakedimus @cristihkj @wabble @jiri-hysek thanks for checking out the game :D

vekstr 2018-08-23 17:21

@randomphantom Nah it's all fine. I get that it was intentional, but it's just not for me I guess

Seriously though, I never realized that Unity physics can do that.. I was totally convinced that you nudged the collision physics every now and then so that one of the colliding objects got knocked towards the player, since that happened like *all* the time to me

tigerj 2018-08-24 01:50

wow just an amazing game. loved it. I have given your game the creativity award. you will have a link to your game under the hall of fame on my main channel page. Here is a link to your segment from the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299088812?t=04h23m50s

greenandsubmarine 2018-08-24 23:20

I'm impressed! The sounds and minimalistic art have a very distinctive feel, controls feel tight, and the idea is great! Well thought out and executed, this looks like something that took way more than a weekend, nice work!

rend 2018-08-25 13:55

Wow, that's the most original game I've played in this LD. Congratulations on the unique idea. And the minimalist UI and art is stunning, everything fits well and the game is really pleasant to play. It becomes difficult quite fast I must admit and I'm not really good with twitch-based games so that must explain it :) Really well done!

chrissx2 2018-08-26 20:11

This was one unique, fantastic and beautiful game. 5/5!

zinski 2018-08-28 21:10

I really enjoyed this little puzzle game! The minimalist style is very immersive and successful! The gameplay is really well thought but the game is quite difficult in some levels. I think a more progressive difficulty curve would make this game even better! Great job! :)

By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!

roman-petrov 2018-08-30 13:39

Fantastic approach to the theme, perfect match! I loved the minimalistic graphics style, which suits the game very well. Puzzle shooter is an interesting genre :)

randomphantom 2018-08-31 06:25

@tigerj thanks for playing it! Its awesome that you're recognising games this way :smile_cat:

@greenandsubmarine thanks for checking out the game!

@rend no match for your fantastic entry though! Thanks for playing :D

@chrissx2 thanks for playing :smiley:

@zinski did play rate your team's stunning entry as well! Yeah the difficulty is a little bumpy at parts. Looking to smooth it out although I wanted levels at multiples of 7 to be more challenging.

@roman-petrov yeah maybe the start of a new genre? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: thanks for playing!

atom0520 2018-09-03 16:16

Really cool and fun. The graphics look good and the audio is also great. The game well interprets the theme and the gameplay is very interesting with the use of physics. It's amazing that you could make more than 30 levels in such a short time while each level has its unique mechanics. Really impressive!

ursagames 2018-09-04 11:33

One of the best designed game and executed out of the 200+ that I played! Great level design constantly adding in new / tweaked mechanics. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 2:37 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299401837

eduardo-yukio 2018-09-05 00:00

Haaa! I saw your game on one stream and it was one of the best that I've played here. I came back now to see the results and I'm very happy that you got top 10 overall, congratulations!!!

randomphantom 2018-09-05 02:46

@ursagames Thanks for streaming it too! Too bad I couldn't be on twitch to view it live. Love your jolly playstyle as my game can be incredibly frustrating.

@eduardo-yukio Thanks for remembering my game! Your window slashing game was also really cool!

@atom0520 Thanks for checking out the game

ursagames 2018-09-05 08:07

Congratulations on top 10! Very well deserved.
