Do you have a link to a compiled version?
@lukebandy I published the page without knowing I could unpublish it, I'll ping you again when the version is uploaded :) It's on its way
I liked it! For some reason the text of hud isn't there, so I don't know my score  And you're right! MORE EXPLOSION MORE FUN! hahahaha
The bug: where is the hud.png
@lukebandy The link is updated now, you can play it ;)
@pedrohph Yep this got fixed in the version that is online now, this is still a pre-submit version and I made the mistake to publish the game page before we were actually done haha.
Haha cool game! However the controls feel a bit weird
Haha this is so great - i really loved the game :D and the fun mode is awesome. Also good audio and perfect mood :)
Hah, the curse of early submitting! Well, in that case I will just give you the feedback that the square is actually called Place Charles de Gaulle. The Arc de Triomphe is just the building in the center.
Great fun.
@indigo I know that haha, well.. I'll change the description just for you then :)
Wow! That was really nice! :) The graphic, the mood.. fun mode was fun to play. Also the execution of the theme was great.
Nicely done with placing your name as advertisments and extra bonus points for an online high score list :)
My favourite game so far!
Also mental not that I shouldn't go and visit Paris ;)
Been there, done that. Really like the game !
Love this
Render looks great, sound design too. Main menu is really original.
However, the controls are too stiff. It's the core of the game and I feel it lacks polishing.
@mungobulge yep we are aware of that, we are currently trying to polish this a little bit more for the 2 hours we have left :)
Nice game, i like the graphics and the sound design is great, the controls feel jittery and clunky but apart from that its cool
Really cool game, might be worth also adding an executable download as it was pretty choppy playing in a browser!
@lukebandy We updated the controls and camera follow to make it less jittery. I'm also building the pc version right now ;)
Boy howdy is fun mode ever fun. As a fellow Roundabout-game maker, I definitely had to try this.
In-browser, things are pretty choppy when the player car breaks apart (at least on my MBP), but it's an exceptionally fun take on things. Like mentioned, the movement feels a little stiff with too little granularity (could be an animation thing too, really), but I definitely know how polishing in a jam goes haha
Excellent game, quite similar to a few other games but still a lot of fun. Watching the carnage when you lose is the best part!!
This game was INSANELY fun to play - the only reason I'm not playing it right now is because I had to drop a comment <3
I can't get enough of honking and blowing up stuff while trying to loop myself out of the arc hahaha
hahahah this is soo cool!! Pretty neat game!! I loved it, it's super chill and relaxing (which is kind of fun, because there's no way that's relaxing IRL).. amazing job!! loved it <3
HAHAHA, explosions everywhere!
Simple gameplay, controls feel nice, clean graphics, and plenty of explosions. I love it!
I've never driven in the real version of that roundabout but when I was in Paris I remember thinking "I hope I never ever have to drive through this roundabout. Well.. after playing this game I know for certain I never want to. Beautiful game, and such simple controls but put together super well, it conjures every feeling you'd expect from driving in that roundabout.
Hahaha - we also did a roundabout game! This was a lot of fun to play. I can see a lot of great work went into it as well. Fantastic job, team!
Oh I remember that 8 lane roundabout from hell. And this feels just like the real thing :joy:
Very fun game. Lots of nice detail. The billboards with the credits were a really nice touch
Not bad! I find the difficulty ramps up a bit too fast for me, but I'm also a pretty aggressive driver :P
I like the concept and the controls, however I felt like the cars honking all the time was a little to much. I've driven like 30 loops before realizing I'm supposed to leave the roundabout
Music is very repetitive.
Have you considered even more "fun" number of explosions?
@sprotex Yep I saw that the arrow indicating where you have to exit the roundabout is not visible enough when you are in the middle of the roundabout haha :) Well, I guess the music is stuck in a loop too :/
@mathemagician Thank you man! The movements were definitly the less polished part of the game and the part that was done the quickest I think, we tried to refine it during the last hours and found a good comprimise without rewriting any code :)
@ryan-paton Thanks man!
@5daydreams Thank you so much, really appreciate your comment :)
@webox Thanks! And yes, I guess it is not relaxing irl, but more hell-like experience :id:
@peace-of-cake-games MOOOOORE EXPLOSIONS!
@melhem-fares Thanks!
@mmason It is sure an experience I never want to make, I hope this game serves as a warning to people that would like to visit Paris by car :D
@tad Roundabout team, noticed there are a few of those haha! Thanks for your feedback man.
@netmute Thanks! I had fun writing these ad boards, so thanks for noticing them :D
@rein It is a pretty difficult game when you reach level 4-5 that's true :) Thanks!
Funny concept. The graphics and especially the explosion FXs are nice.
Game is very polished. Explosions and car damage add so much juice to the game.
Its a bit disappointing that gameplay is repetitive.
Great submission!
You were right with the "more explosions -> more fun", haha
I also loved the title screen, with the programmers' ads and the menu / high scores being part of the world.
I'll try playing more later, but I don't think I'll manage to reach level 20 (my best until now was level 3)
level21.png
what can i say, except that this game is absolutely addicting. great polish, simple concept, executed so well that it's insanely fun and you get the "just one more go" vibes. i rarely give 5* on anything but this definitely deserves it lmao
@c42 holy sh**! I wasn't even sure this was actually possible, thank you so much for crushing the leaderboard man, it means a lot  You can pm me on twitter (@ThiryAntoine) and we'll find a car concept for your Easter egg man :)
@c42 Wow! That's insane! I didn't think anyone would ever get to level 20. Good job and thank you so much for playing!
Haha nice place de l'étoile simulator ! Very addictive. Bonus point for the background sound ! thanks !
I was looking forward to play this game when I saw your blog posts !
And the wait was worth it ! It was really fun to play ! I was feeling like I really was in the "Place de l'Etoile", non-stop honks, countless cars, they were even no car with blinkers on... just like real life Paris !
It was overall really fun and pretty simple to control, the graphics were pretty nice, it really does justice to this genre of game. The theme was absolutely respected and the Fun mode was a nice touch !
The guitar loop as a music wasn't that intersting but the overall sound design was pretty good. Here's my personal best: Capture d’écran 2020-10-06 193334.png
Amazing! I really liked this game. Such an original take on the theme, very well done and very polished. Good job!
LOL this is an accurate depiction of how it feels to drive in Paris. Love it.
Wow, this is great. The feeling is exactly the one you have when driving at le rond point de l'Etoile in Paris. The explosion might be a bit exaggerated but that's all.
Would recommend to every driver, every parisian, and every human.
Thanks for the game 💕
This game is put together so well. Fun to play around, nice to look at and very original theme execution. "Honk like a parisian" made me laugh throughout the whole gameplay for some reason. Cool stuff. lol
lol loved destroying everything! its got that gta-feel of wanting to cause havoc
Excellent, should have put more honk for realism, seems quiet for a day in Paris. Great Job
This game has really smooth gameplay and is pretty satisfying to play. I love the neat graphics and the repeating music. It also runs good and has a nice difficulty. 5 stars for this!
Very cool game, nice graphics and mood!
love the explosion animations, gives it a great cartoon them
First off, I thought that this game is about destroy any vehicle in a time... but then. Oh, anyway, main goal for me was to damage other cars and see the explosions, haha. That was really funny. Of course, the game itself is good enough for the main theme. Good job!
Absolutely love it, 5/5, I feel stressed out and wanna throw my coffee at these other f*ck*ng drivers.
And the creative use of those billboards to serve as your credits, what a nice touch!
Wow this is a blast!
Funny game :P took me some time to find the exit, was happily driving loops in the beginning.
Hands down the best LD47 game I've played yet. Loved it, I got to level 7. Great job!
Very fun game. Nice to see that other people also came up with the idea of a roundabout as the theme interpretation :D
I'm from Paris so I know this place and the game was very satisfying to play. Nice graphics, sounds and gameplay ! Great job !
This such an original way to implement the theme in a game! And you can totally feel the stress of driving in a crowded roundabout haha. It definitely kept me entertained for a while. The only big problem I see is the music, but good job anyways!
Sooooo cool minigame, you could add some features in the future like an upgrade system, other levels, like Another countrys like US, Spain, Japan, Brazil and ad some modes like god mode just to destroy cars without explode ours, there ar infinite possibilitys, go on, loved the idea.
Fun game! Very tempting to just crash into the traffic. Nice graphics and effects!
Haha a lot of people went with roundabout games and they're all great. I loved that you leaned into the explosions :) Paris is a great setting for a game like this, that roundabout is terrifiying in real life haha. Great job!
Always wondered how people drive that round-a-bout! Now i know its hornmania!
I like the game but the controls feels kinda wierd. Sometimes I want to turn right for a while but the game immediately made me turn left. It's so sudden. If you can ease it down a bit, the game will be a lot better. Anyways, nice interpretation of the theme. Neat art, cool explosion. Congratz on the entry
This was fun! I love the art, the only downfall is being stuck in the 2nd most outer ring and someone merges right into you >:( drivers these days, I tell ya.
That was fun! Riding into this kind of a loop would be fun and challenging as well.
Here are my attempts:
https://youtu.be/7duhwyd5ouY
@cocapasteque and team great concept and really cool game :D well done!
This game is too good! the only problem I have is the sound gets a bit too repetitive. One of the best games I've seen! i would give this 10/5 stars for innovation!
Best game I've played from this Year's Ludum Dare. 10/10.
I really enjoyed this. Good work!
WOW! Very nice, addictive and beautifuly polishd gameplay! Perfectly done!
Impressive...... :thumbsup_tone1:
Love the idea and gameplay is fun. Super frustrating, but fun. I guess that's what you where going for. Would have been nice if honking gave you a way to clear your path a bit or speed up the cars in front of you or something like that though, I kept getting stuck one lane away from the exit completely locked in on all sides.
Very good idea. I know this issue in Paris and it's fun to see it in a game and a pleasure to destroy all this cars!
Thanks for all the comments :)
@drunkardwolf Honking does clear your path some of the time, the cars around you will check if they can change lane and there's a chance that they will if they have space to do so :) There's also a 1% chance that they will go into your lane and crush you like real parisians do.
That's impressive to see a so well made 3D game in a jam. Almost accurate to the real traffic situation on the Arc-de-Triomphe!
I wish driving around the arc IRL would be that fun. Great concept
Loved it! How did you do all this audio?
@cakii23 Thanks! I own a sound library for all explosions/cars sounds that we pitch shift based on different parameters :) Simply pitch shifting the engine clip based on the player velocity works great, and honk when a car changes lane. Also 3D sounds with small minimum distance so it sounds like some cars are far in the distance based on the player position :)
The part I dislike most in driving a car XD But this game's awesome.
The game was fun and easy to understand! I liked it a lot!
@c42 It's done man, your special reward is included in the game! Thanks for playing it <3 <3
yep, this is great. i love everything about this, fantastic job. If I had to give any criticism, it would be that fun mode should be the default, lol
Haha hilarious idea XD. Well implemented as well. Very good entry.
After 20 loops on level 1, I started wondering if I'm just natural on your game or there's something more to it. It turns out there was more to your game and I was not natural :joy:
This games sums up my first few weeks driving during rush hour in france (coming from germany). Very well made.
Awesome!!!!
This is one of the best games I've seen on this Jam. Congratulations, keep working on that game. Success for you.
Nice job, love the connection to the theme.
woah, i got dizzy before i understood that i have to pull out of the circle XD
Just so good. Just so funny. I loved everything about this. Easily a top 5 favorite so far. Great work! :zap:
Capture d’écran 2020-10-07 232810.png
Haha It was fun ! Simple and great to play. Showing the high-scores and communicating it on the page of the game is a cool idea ! You want to play with your players ;)
The music is a bit repetitive though...
This one was a good one! Unfortunatelly, the WebGL version was quite a bit laggy but I still enjoyed it very much. Yep, it was that good. :D
Very similar to the other game I played on this Ludum Dare, but with different execution. Had much fun playing! Managed to get to level 8 and exploded with 7 buses... :D
Cool game, feels like real life haha. I only reached level 10 :(
hahaha! I started a chain reaction. I think this game should be defaulted to fun mode :) Cool art style, brings back memories. I went to france years ago and went up the arc the triomphe. You captured it perfectly. Maybe you should have used some heavy metal music instead? haha.
got to level 18 and diiiiiied! Damn Parisians and their driving skills (car drove into my lane and hit me side on, twice, even after honking) Overall, neat lil game, nice sounds, and a decent challenge
Ok, this game is silly (in a good way) and super fun. You made a great job, it's simple but flawless in the controls. By the way, as a member of the "chocolat-endive" team, I can only approve the name "cocapasteque".
10/10. Thanks for the dog <3, he is now my second child.
Congrats on capturing the clusterfuck that is roundabouts in major city centres in all their glory
I live in Paris, this is my daily life. 20/20
Well it's fun in a silly way XD. I found that you could cheese some levels by driving in the innermost lane though. The crashes reminded me of burnout. The camera made it a little difficult to see other cars though. Great job on the main menu as well. A nice entry overall
This is a fun game! I got a bit nauseous after a while but there's not much to be done about that, loops will loop I guess. I feel like the controls could've been a bit smoother if it didn't forcibly snap my rotation to 0 degrees as soon as i let go of the button, or something like that. But really fun otherwise, wasn't too difficult to get used to the controls!
I just love your take on the theme. I only made it to level 7 but I had plenty of fun. The higher the level, the closer it is to what can be found Place de la Concorde.
Could you try and fix the problem where almost every time I honk my horn near a bus the bus drives straight for me? I've lost count of how many times I've been on a roll towards Level 20 and then a bus driver decides to kill himself to take me out.
This is surprisingly fun, and *deeply* stressful. I already had a healthy dislike for roundabouts, and being on one this massive with drivers even more prone to sheer lunacy and irresponsibility than those in the Truck Sim series is a nightmare come true.
Almost all of my deaths came from other vehicles shifting lanes whilst literally perfectly parallel to my car, and even if it didn't kill me when they did so, the resultant mayhem of upturned vehicles usually would.
Graphics are great, the screenshake when things are exploding adds a nice degree of punch, and the audio isn't bad (if a bit mood-whiplash-y with the music - it is WAY too chill and upbeat for a roundabout straight out of the ninth layer of hell), with the puttering retro car noises being quite lovely.
Best score was level 14, and I may yet try again later to see if I can't get that level 20 mark - I'd hate to turn down an opportunity to spread the Trabant love...
Great work overall, and I hope for everyone involved in its development's sakes that this is *not* based off a true story :P
Really cool game, it's fun to play. But from all this driving in circles I got a bit sick... ;)
Brilliant game, but not enough French swearing haha. I really wish that the acceleration wasn't toggleable, and instead accelerated on hold, like in any other game. Other than, it's one of the best games I've played so far this jam. I made it to level 10!
It took so much restraint on my part to avoid hitting the other cars. Watching the carnage and cartoon explosions was fantastic! Great work great game!
Awesome idea, laughed a lot when I saw the cover  The game feel is really great!
I really tried to get to level 20, but the AI drivers are idiots who keep ramming me even if I honk nonstop. I have never been to Paris, but something tells me that this is realism, not lazy programming. ;)
Really fun game (obviously fun enough for me to try for lvl20 several times). Graphics are charming, and the sound is *honkhonkHONKhonk*.
Really fun game to play and kill the time! Also fits the theme perfectly
(And the explosions and all make this game hilarious)
@firetwoonenine There is actually a tiny chance that cars try to switch in to your lane when you honk. Just for fun and to keep things realistic :D
Me: I'm gonna get to level 20! Also me: Well... 😅
CapturaParis.PNG
Lovely. I liked the crash animation a lot. I like a well done death mechanic. The sound was great too.
You made a pretty well works ! that's really clean ! The only things I can tell is that I don't think the menu like this is a good ergonomics idea  (even it's fun)
It did take me back to my time visiting Paris :D I was pleased to see pomo! The honk mechanic was nice
I've seen a very similar game on this game jam but I think this one is executed better. The graphics is nice, sounds are great as well. It is fun to play, the explosions are nicely done. I noticed, that even if you honk. some cars decide to go for your lane and ram straight to you. Not sure whether that's a bug or it was an intention to make the game slightly harder.
@flying-basement-studios that is totally intentional, aiming to add realism to the game, there is 1% chance that the car next to you will merge in your lane :) Thanks for the feedback :D
Your visuals are on point! Great game overall, but controlls feel a bit odd.
I've probably played this game the longest so far, it's really fun
I think that it's a bit confusing at start, I have been just looping around, seeing my loop counter go up and wondering where the fun and challenge is. At first I thought that I will get to a new level after a certain amount of loops, but then I tried to go to the right after the arrow and it clicked.
I think having the loop counter is a bit confusing and misleading, if that wasn't there, I'd probably just go straight for the arrow.
Other than that, this is a really fun game! I've enjoyed getting better, even if the experience was really frustrating sometimes (I hate those suicidal drivers that get in my way). I also like the graphics and audio. Simple but very effective. Cool main menu as well.
P.S. that guy named Milan with 21 levels, that's me
@mvasko2 Thanks for the feedback! By the way, since you reached level 20+, you can ask me for a special model you would like to see in the game as easter egg, we already have a fiat multipla and pomo the dog on top of some cars :) Congrats anyway, that's great to see people achieving such high levels in our game and it means so much to us!
@cocapasteque Thanks! I'd love to see the [Flintstone car](https://sphero-media-sphero-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/cwist/cwists/03/0c/fred%20flintstone_500_500.png) if you're up for it
To be honest, didn't realy appreciate the game-play. BUT it was really fun to crash other cars, and I spent lot of time on it
Original! Clearly the traffic was much more fluid than the real thing ;) I got 20+ loops by just looping in the innermost circle, where no cars seemed to ever spawn. I would have expected other cars to change lane more haphazardly and forcefully; more realistic and more challenging. The motion blur was also tad overboard, otherwise good job!
@fmdkdd Hey thanks for the feedback! It is a bit unclear at first but you have to exit the roundabout by the exit indicateed with the orange arrow, we should have added more instructions about this somewhere tbh :/ The innermost lane is more for the player to start when he wants and chose a spot where to start :)
@cocapasteque Aw, man, you have to exit it? I thought the point was to be stuck in there forever, avoiding cars. I did wonder why this giant arrow was pointing backward though. So I would suggest putting a car just behind you in the innermost lane, so that the player is forced to at least move off it after one lap.
@fmdkdd that is a great suggestion, thanks for that :) but i thknk also a little text somewhere as a hint may help the player understand the goal better :)
This game is incredibly fun guys, well done! Also, love the super chilly music, super appropriate for when I create a chain reaction of non-stop explosions :D
@mvasko2, it is done :) You can now play the version with your special car ;)
@tommy Thanks for the feedback man :)
A fine game with simple, but very fun gameplay. Great job.
Really nice game, I'm inspired to make a 3D game after playing this :D
Very nice game, fun gameplay and good audio and visuals - a great effort for a jam :)
Genius idea! I loved it. I drive a lot. I hope no one will build such loop. :D I would change the damaging system, only wrecks destroys the player. So you can mess around, but the next loop will be harder.
Simple and short, but pretty fun and funny game :) It communicates well the difficulties of navigating a roundabout :joy:
It's basically one of the ideas I wanted to make for this jam, just Belgrade instead of Paris :)
I like the simple art, looks very clean.
Speeding and crashing (and losing) is so satisfying, I had trouble progressing, I just wanted chaos :joy:
Good job!
Ha, this feels very accurate to the real thing! Especially how infuriating it is when someone cuts into your line! A real game of patience… and a bit of luck. Made it to Level 10, but I will be back to make it to the Arc de Triomphe! Thank you for this realistic traffic hell simulation :‘D
That was really fun! Awesome take on the theme, and discovering the fun mode made it even better :)
A little bug I encountered: sometimes when taking the exit at high speed (as you should ;) ), the little car gets stuck in a loop itself and you need to unstick it at the right point. But you'Re not taking damage while doing that, so it's not gamebreaking.
I didn't understand at all that I was supposed to take an exit and not keep turning around  Otherwise, this is very novel and extremely fun. Very accurate too, as a Parisian. Good job!
Those 6 lane roudabouts be damned!
Simple but cool low poly artstyle, i am also curious how you guys programmed the cars AI, not to bump into eachother
Great Game!
Thanks for the feedback!
@onkel-mo interesting, never got to see that bug, you do have some invicibility frames when exiting the roundabout but never saw any other bugs like the one you described:)
@wabble the full source code is in github, you can go there and check the NpcCarControl.cs file I think for the AI and the CarSpawner.cs for the spawning mechanics, where they don't spawn into each other ;)
@wabble For not spawning in each other, I simply check if there is already a car on the new spawn position and if so, look for another position. During the game they could only bump into each other when switching lanes, because all of them have the same speed. And for that I have a List of all the cars in each lane. And when a car wants to switch into a new lane, I check if there would be a car near its new position and if so, they just don't switch.
This was surprisingly fun :) It shows that a lot of thought went into designing the game. The game play mechanics were well polished and the game itself ran smooth like butter. It feels kinda hard in the beginning due to the nature of the controls but once you get the hang of it, it's rather easy (at least to the point I played). Since there isn't really any variation in the levels (aside from more cars, I guess?) the game play grows stale rather quickly. Just competing for a high score doesn't cut it for me to keep me engaged. I played until level 10 without any real issues and quit after that. Since you don't really have a time limit, you can safely find gaps to the outer lane and then just wait for the exit. But like I said, it was fun! The art und music added a lot to the enjoyment and the art direction was gorgeous. Congrats!
First game in this jam to take me into "the zone"! I was fully concentrated on not colliding and getting out of that cursed roundabout. Thank you for that experience, it was super fun. Which caught me by surprise with how seemingly simplistic this looks at first sight. Oh and the audio does its job so so well. Good work y'all!
Fun entry to the jam! Nice an simple idea well executed. I tried my best to get to level 20 to no avail. As far as gameplay goes Ii found myself wanting a more smooth throttle adjustment rather than set tiers of speed. And for sound design, simply pitching a sound up or down a bit would get you a lot more variety in things like car horns. Good work overall!
Great audio and art. it was fun to play as well. Great work guys
"Honking does clear your path some of the time, the cars around you will check if they can change lane and there’s a chance that they will if they have space to do so :) There’s also a 1% chance that they will go into your lane and crush you like real parisians do."
Oh dear hahaha.
This was great. Echoing most of the other comments as well.
Very funny! Great stuff!
As a french guy, I can relate. 10/10!
Hah, great idea and superb execution, very funny, neat and polished jam entry. Congrats!
It is hard I think :( but cute 3d models and nice idea
One of my favourite entries so far! Pure, unadulterated silly fun. The "Fun" mode was a laugh, and the cute little cars have a nice wobble to them. I liked the ones with a cat on the roof.
It was potentially a bit to slow to try again and replay the first few levels to try and do better.
Surprisingly close to that real roundabout!
I really enjoyed the aesthetics of this game, I feel like the controls could be just a bit tighter, mostly because whenever I released any direction I had input on it it would kickback just a tiny bit and made it harder to fit along the lanes at times. Other than that I enjoyed this entry a lot, good job guys!
