LD46 — Keep it alive

Dungeon Petscort by jwiggs 2020-04-21T02:56:07Z

Good Game but there were some issues

PROS Fun Idea Impressive Sprites Good Music

CONS AI Breaks commonly Weapon Balancing is a bit off (I went from pistols to a flamethrower within the first couple of minutes) Pet can sometimes leave the map Level Design is a bit confusing at times

Overall enjoyable game, 3/5

8-Bit of Farming by StinkyKitty 2020-04-21T04:47:45Z

I really like the style of this game, would be great to see you expand on this in the future.

AMBER by cakts 2020-04-21T11:55:14Z

@eryph We achieved the lighting by using the inbuilt 2D light rendering system in the URP engine.

AMBER by cakts 2020-05-11T23:49:21Z

@emperor-eagle Thank you for the feedback :D

AMBER by cakts 2020-05-12T01:21:54Z

@jmad Collisions were a bit of an issue due to how I did sprite layering, and I didn't have much time to fix how I did it so I made the collisions a bit larger to prevent overlapping sprites (bit of a dodgy fix haha). With the sapling plant, the rules are: "Can't be near a tree, campfire, or other sapling" and "Player has at least 1 log." I think a visual indicator (like a green circle showing the radius that turns red if can't plant) could've benefited the player greatly. I also really enjoyed your game, and i'm really impressed how you managed to stay organised with so many team members lol.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Legendary Orbit Golf by pschichtel 2020-10-06T08:09:19Z

I like the concept however I feel that the lack of instructions and some missing visual cues let you down a little bit. With a bit of work this could turn out great.

Stuck In Paris by CocaPasteque 2020-10-11T13:39:04Z

Really nice game, I'm inspired to make a 3D game after playing this :D

Time Crash by Gonzalol 2020-10-07T11:47:42Z

Despite its simplicity the graphics really helped me find myself enjoying the game more than I thought I would haha. You should be proud of what you've achieved :D

Candy Collector by Nikos 2020-10-06T09:49:53Z

great graphics, however I feel like if you found a way to incorporate this project with the theme this would have been a perfect ludum dare game :)

Ringchaser by jordantanner 2020-10-09T02:36:44Z

Awesome game man, loved how something so simple could be so fun. Hope you continue working on this :D

Very hectic and funny experience :D

Rewind Dungeon by FishMasterino 2020-10-07T11:27:45Z

Wow really awesome work :D Only issue I could find is the resetting music on each level change. Apart from that you should be really proud of your game!

Sisyphus Beetle Takes His Daughter to Work by pee-thief 2020-10-06T08:05:37Z

BULLET TIME by cakts 2020-10-27T03:03:25Z

@skleembof Wow, awesome feedback! I really liked your ideas and I've written some down for future development. We were originally going to make the time loop a manual mechanic however we felt that making it a forced gameplay element helped stick to the "stuck" in a loop theme. Your idea for the dive mechanic really caught my attention and I think it would greatly fit the gameplay, allowing the player to avoid the guards a split second before they are caught. Thanks for putting so much effort into your feedback :D

BULLET TIME by cakts 2020-10-27T22:39:03Z

@ale Thanks, really appreciate it :D

Dr. Needles and the Nightclub by funemaker 2020-10-06T09:11:18Z

Incredible graphics, like others have already said it did feel like a chore to complete the game with a lack of clues but I honestly think there is something unique about this game. Great job, you should be proud :D

Going Postal Starring Dick Danger by MikeW 2020-10-06T07:33:51Z

Apart from some graphical errors (player flashing) and the cursor being stuck on a pivot, I really liked the concept (rail direction changes etc.) and with some improvements this could become a great game :D

while(true) by Noah Kuhn 2020-10-27T06:20:02Z

As others have stated, this game could be much more fun to play if the enemies followed you. However the idea is really great and I loved the sound effects :D

Evo-loop-tion | Ludum Dare 47 by MrchickenBoy 2020-10-06T09:56:34Z

Decent game considering you were short on time. Like others have said, some control guides or a hint in the first level would be handy. Great name though hahaha :D

Time Saver by Daniikk1012 2020-10-06T08:58:28Z

Great artstyle!

K7Dungeon by Leonardo Coyado 2020-10-08T07:39:36Z

Visually stunning, some of the platformer mechanics felt a little iffy but I really enjoyed it and would say its one of the top 5 games I've played this jam so far. :D great job

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Dino Digger by dankar 2021-04-27T07:33:14Z

Nice game, with some audio and randomised levels this could become a nice mobile game.

(Also noticed some performance issues, not sure if this was just on my end though)

Debt Collector by thomz12 2021-04-28T07:16:31Z

Not what I expected at all, definitely adding this one to my bookmarks to play again later

Oculus Leviathan by NotExplosive 2021-05-05T03:01:53Z

Such an interesting experience, visuals and sounds were great, I really hope you keep working on this.

Daive Dangerous by kpded 2021-05-05T23:50:18Z

Nice concept, I think there is a bug where some objects move faster depending on the speed of the PC, this can be fixed by multiplying the movement speed by the time since the last frame.

Heart of the Planet. by gabbeeder 2021-05-05T11:40:09Z

Nice game, got a lot of nostalgia from one of the first platformers I ever made. I can see the effort you can put into this, and despite the super fast bats on fast computers which I think you are aware of, I'll give you some polishing tips :) - Keep the music playing on level reset, it keeps a nice flow to games like these and considering how much I died, hearing the intro over and over was a bit jarring. - Smooth/fixed camera: Although I pretty quickly got used to it, the cameras movement was very fast for me, especially in the starting level. - Whenever the player is on the right side of a bat, they fly upside down, you can fix this by just flipping the sprite depending on if the players x value is greater or less than the bats x value.

Overall, this was a really fun experience, really liked the sound effects of the gun as well. Congrats on your first LDJam dude :D

Dreamer's Depths by Kraemahz 2021-05-05T03:06:10Z

Awesome platformer mechanics, only issue I really had was the audio mixing being a bit loud in some places, but that was easily ignored, enjoyable game overall :D

BLAST MINER by SuperGamersGames 2021-04-28T06:46:57Z

Really fun game, can I ask what program/technique you used for sound design? I really like it.

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-28T06:40:44Z

Awesome game, was very fun to play :D

Throneless by AdamCYounis 2021-04-28T07:33:41Z

Enjoyable experience, wish there was some more audio so I could get more immersed

Into Debt by darqweful 2021-04-27T06:47:56Z

Cool concept, I think this could be a full fledged game with the addition of more humor, as I feel it's a bit too serious at the moment. I like to image this type of game in the style of Papers Please, could be a really fun experience. Good Job

Fight Your Fears by SkelleRoznik 2021-04-27T07:31:15Z

I liked the style, and the little story behind it. Only problem is the difficulty, I found my self stuck at the first two levels for way too long compared to the rest of the game, however with some fine tuning I could see this becoming a nice post-ld game.

Deep Breaths by Patsui 2021-04-27T06:38:42Z

Really fun game, never thought i'd enjoy drifting as a meditating bald guy but here we are lol

The Plummet by cakts 2021-04-26T21:39:55Z

@lauranto Thanks for playing . Polish was a big goal for me this time around, so iโ€™m glad you liked it. :)

The Plummet by cakts 2021-04-27T08:55:07Z

@random-thoughts Thanks so much! Unity physics like to bug out at high velocity, so there may have been a slight clip there haha.

The Plummet by cakts 2021-05-05T02:56:20Z

@ted Once the rope has attached to something, press R again when your player is on the ground, creating a rope bridge you can walk across between the two spots. Hopefully this should help :D

@notexplosive Thanks! I'm gonna upload a post-jam version soon with a default pickaxe item, that will break the block below the player, hopefully fixing the occasional annoying spawns. I definitely want to revamp the rope mechanics in a way, so a bungie

@justinmullin Wow, awesome feedback, thank you. I found the wall collision bug you talked about very late into developed, and moved it down in my to-do list to fix (possibly a bad idea looking back lol), I'm hoping to fix it by the release of the post jam update. I've already implemented about 4 new unique powerups/items for the new update, so I'm excited to release it. Thanks again for the great feedback :D

The Plummet by cakts 2021-05-05T11:26:00Z

@baconn00 @a0m1n3zone Thank you both for the feedback, the rope is a line renderer with each point using simulated gravity (a constant downforce) The amount of gravity is halved for each segment the further away from the centre point so that it tightens the closer to the start and endpoints. Once the player presses R again I unparent the start point from the player and enable an edge collider that copies the points from the line renderer. Hope this cleared that up, might make a tutorial some time.

@gabbeeder Thank you! Will give yours a try now :)

@majadroid Thanks for the feedback :D I plan on fixing those collision bugs in a little update coming soon, and as i've had some spare time I've recently created a much calmer, moodier soundtrack for the main game.

The Plummet by cakts 2021-05-05T23:47:14Z

@louis-mareau Thank you! Tile collider is fixed in the post-jam update I plan on releasing tomorrow :)

Wobble Waddle! by Gen Liu 2021-10-13T10:45:07Z

Loved it. Graphics reminded me of old PSP game LocoRoco. Awesome entry! :D

Path of the Pogo by Human Writes Code 2021-10-07T00:21:06Z

Graphics, audio and humor done perfectly. Difficult but engaging. Good job and solid jam game :)

Outstanding Acaipowered Spaceship by Derek Volker 2021-10-05T10:37:00Z

Super impressive work for a compo game, great retro aesthetic and gameplay. Nice job

Mint by Prรฉda 2021-10-05T07:04:41Z

One of the most attractive games I've played so far, and great use of 2D lighting. Walking up those glass corridors was one of the most visually stunning things I've seen in an indie project in a while, and the doors were really well designed. If you do continue this I'd recommend adding a waypoint marker on the edge of the screen to guide the player, as the ship is quite large and the no-gravity situations made it a bit difficult to manoeuvre. Really well done on all parts and congrats to the entire team on making such a polished game in only 72 hours.

Eye See you by Julien Darras 2021-10-05T06:27:38Z

Fun experience and great graphics, although a little confusing to understand at first, a tutorial level would be a great help to new players. If you expand on this game further I'd recommend you add some different enemy AI to really allow the player to experiment with their arsenal of weapons. Super cool aesthetics and sound design, and a solid jam game :D

The Last Light by Neon Glass 2021-10-11T00:32:44Z

Good concept but a bit confusing, maybe a better explanation of the main mechanic at the start of the game would be helpful. Excited to see where this game goes in the future. :D

My First Nuclear Manuela by Franci 2021-10-05T08:53:53Z

Loved the graphics and sound design, with the music being the best i've heard in a game this jam. However the game mechanics were a little confusing and immediately puts the player in the deep end (which may be on purpose). If each panel was introduced slowly then the progression would be comfortable and could lead to a slow stress build up of managing more and more panels overtime. Super good jam entry, feels very polished. :D

Atomic Rock Paper Scissors by lucasvb 2021-10-08T14:23:10Z

fantastic concept, with a fantastic execution. It isn't often you get both of those in a game jam. Great graphics, sound design, gameplay, and really cool custom engine. Great work

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T10:50:13Z

@magic-mike Thanks for the great feedback! Glad you enjoyed it.

I might release a post jam update tomorrow to balance the boss, but my strategy is to aim for the head and run to a safe place to heal. Once you get the final powerup your core is immune to damage from the walls, so feel free to spam it inside those crate holes.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T11:08:24Z

@polymathld Appreciate the feedback! Another way to tell the stability of your core is too see how much fire is emitting from the core itself.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T11:21:05Z

@digitaldude555 Thanks! The immune to ground powerup is actually for the core eject, so when the core hits the ground it doesn't get damaged.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T11:22:03Z

@devundead Thanks for the feedback, I tried getting the player as smooth as possible but it is quite hard with a pixel perfect camera setup.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T14:02:45Z

@daivyishere I actually like that idea of yours that enemies should target the core, but iโ€™d like to save it for a new enemy type i plan to add in future updates that are more intelligent and understand what the core is. I like to think of the Hazzies as pretty braindead I guess lol.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T14:03:04Z

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T14:08:25Z

@jane-wei I was originally going to lower the blood spawn rates but there was basically zero performance impacts and was pretty funny to see an entire area covered in red from just a few enemies. I decided to add a slider in the settings just in case though hahaha. Thanks for playing :D

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-05T22:42:40Z

@derek-volker I've never played Abuse, I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for playing :)

@senevri There is one fairly long stretch between the autofire checkpoint and the next one, so I might add a new powerup somewhere between there in a post-jam update :D

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-06T08:21:43Z

@MasterProject Thanks for the feedback :) I agree that those leaps of faith are annoying and iโ€™m currently working on a post jam update that fixes these issues, along with flattening parts of the occasionally confusing layout to make it more apparent that moving right is 9 out of 10 times the correct strategy. Glad you enjoyed the other aspects and really appreciate the detailed feedback.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-06T23:36:53Z

@future-labs-unlimited Thanks for the feedback! I'm working on a post-jam update and one of the values i've tweaked is the base core healing speed to avoid the shift spam.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-07T00:02:41Z

Hey thanks for the super in-depth feedbacl :D I'm glad you enjoyed most aspects of the game, and I do agree that the core can be annoying which is why in the post-jam update I've added a faster core heal speed as well as a "core grapple" powerup to add a bit of extra usage to the core (as well as getting some super cool airborne kills). As with the bug with falling out of the second level, could I ask how it happened? Did it occur when you respawned after a death, because currently my only guess is one of the checkpoints triggered strangely. Thanks again for the awesome feedback

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-07T00:03:47Z

@sprotex That reply above was meant for you sorry :)

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-07T00:06:59Z

@ddrkirbyisq Thanks for playing! You are correct as my development strategy throughout making this game was basically "It would feel badass if I could do X to kill Y". Cheers for the review :)

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-07T21:07:28Z

@junr Really appreciate the awesome feedback! Iโ€™m definitely planning on a full release because iโ€™m so happy with how the game feels and looks, and have already planned the first half of the game, with what was made in 3 days being the first two levels (however i believe you missed out on the second level, due to the crash. Sorry about that). The post jam update is almost done and fixes a majority of the problems you mentioned, however i wasnโ€™t aware that 4k resolutions were a problem, so iโ€™ll have to add that to the list. Iโ€™m not too sure about the crashing issue however, was it because there was a large amount of blood on the screen? If so that should be fixed in the new update. Thanks again for the awesome feedback.

GUNSTABLE MAYHEM by cakts 2021-10-11T22:36:30Z

@guitarbro Wow, super appreciative of this in-depth feedback. The level design and maybe even movement speed need to be tweaked to definitely embrace the "run and gun" feel I was going for, as the game originally started off as a stealth experience but the mechanics I kept adding were so enjoyably "badass 2012 action movie protagonist" that the game feel kept evolving. For a main release, I'd like to make the game flow nicer, but still keep that idea that you have to play stylish to play well. I'll experiment with some new camera zoom levels as I agree with you on that point as well.

I was brainstorming ideas for how to counter the occasional mishaps when the player falls into the water/road, and the idea of bouncing them up and removing 50-70ish hp feels like a good idea, however a ledge grab (if implemented well) could be good too. Of course for a full release each level will be loLS

Space-Fix-Attack by John llyod Apolo 2021-10-13T10:54:52Z

Super cool stuff! Only problems I had was that the mouse input felt delayed or smoothed out, and I didn't feel like I had much control over it. Maybe some more enemies and potentially switch to a top down view with more freedom on the X and Y and it would be a really solid experience. Great stuff for only 72 hours though, good entry :D

ROBOKILL by E.E-Wick 2021-10-08T14:14:18Z

really REALLY good game, one of my favourites this jam 100%, but their are some issues with the download process that possibly explains the low amount of ratings. Here are my suggestions:

REMOVE THE DONATION OPTION

For game jams it is typically a good idea to not ask for donations when downloading. It's a bit out of pocket in a game jam setting and can confuse users into thinking the game costs money. I'd recommend you change this setting on itch.io.

VIRUS ISSUE

I got a virus detection during the download and had to disable my firewall the entire time I played otherwise the game would get deleted by windows defender. I was super interested in this game and decided to disable it, any other game and I would have given up playing before I even downloaded it. **SOLVE THIS ASAP!!!**

NO AUDIO ISSUE

Unless I missed it I could not find any audio volume settings, not a massive issue but I'd recommend you add it.

I apologize if the review sounds harsh but this is honestly one of the best games I've played this jam and just want to help you to get the amount of ratings you deserve. Keep it up!

Boomsheep by leggy 2021-10-11T00:37:03Z

A balanced and immersive experience, cute graphics and good audio as well. I felt the difficulty curve was in a good spot based on the style of the game. Overall good stuff, great entry. :D

Stable Table by Diana Asadova 2021-10-05T09:26:16Z

I like the concept! I have an idea that you could replace the Q and E presses with a quicktime button that if accurate enough will freeze all rigidbodies that have already landed to add a bit more user input. The graphics are polished and don't feel out of place. Great stuff! :D

Unstable Genius by Doc Kaos 2021-10-08T14:25:50Z

Super unique way to make a game, loved it. Great work :D

uns(table) by Chiara Marker 2021-10-08T13:33:32Z

Probably the largest team size I've ever seen . Enjoyable experience that definitely shows the entire team's contributions and hard work well, I have almost no issues with this game and was a solid jam experience

Rook Bishop Knight by nshbae 2021-10-05T10:32:08Z

As an occasional chess player this was a great brain exercise, managed to get perfect score on all levels. Loved everything but the incorporation of the theme was lacking a little. Great stuff and one of the better games I've played this jam :D

Unstable Tower by Dumrum 2021-10-08T13:43:25Z

Originally played it alone but I enjoyed the concept enough to get my sister to play as well. The concept is original and could definitely be expanded on into a full game. I think that instead of the rooms just appearing, make them spawn on the right side of the screen out of view and have the camera move right, killing the other player when they go too far left, this will make it feel a bit more seamless and ensure smooth game flow. Really liked this game and encourage you to keep working on it. Great entry

Crystal Town by Lucy Lu 2021-10-05T08:05:27Z

Awesome game and I'm glad you were able to successfully funnel your creative vision into this game in such a short time. Great stuff :D

Riot City by metalboyrick 2021-10-05T10:44:53Z

Great game with great aesthetics. Only struggle was finding the deploy button, maybe give it a white outline and animate it to make it more visible?

Ninja Mindness by Jupitern 2021-10-05T11:44:07Z

Really cool game! Loved the art and effects. As others have said a bit of polish would work nicely but apart from that a really good concept.

(Btw you should change the itch.io link type from "source code" to "microsoft windows")

The Swirl by cybuuorg 2021-10-05T06:35:52Z

Fantastic play on the classic detective stereotype mixed with the theme. I'm usually not one for dialogue games but this one kept me captivated with it's great writing, artwork and sound design. A really solid entry, good job :D

Glide'r Die by adamk33n3r 2022-04-09T11:27:41Z

Really fun game, made me really happy playing it for some reason, so good job on that haha. My only suggestions are to implement a parallax background with some clouds and mountains to make it easier to understand how fast the player is moving when the ground is not on screen, and a distance travelled statistic when you crash the glider. Super cool game, good work!

Thermal Runaway by TeamMonumental 2022-04-09T11:17:43Z

Awesome graphics! Some improvements I can think of: - Render the weaposn on a different camera layered on top of the normal view to stop the weapon clipping through walls - Visual indicator for death - Maybe an easier way to tell how close the reactor is to splodin - Maybe a map? - Bug when reactor explodes (you already know about this one) - Smoother/More responsive FPS controller

Apart from these minor things, this is one of the most polished games i've played. Great Job

Back2Work by radmccool 2022-04-06T04:40:16Z

Super cool stuff, liked the low resolution, gave the game a very nostalgic feel. Great Stuff :D

Super impressed what you guys achieved with CSS, I would probably cry if I saw how many divs there were. Love the art, definitely a very impressive technical feat. Great stuff!

EMBEJEAL by neowhoru 2022-04-12T14:47:07Z

I found this game really cute, graphics were nice and the concept was cool. As someone who makes a lot of platformers, my best advice would be to watch this video by Mix and Jam on recreating Celeste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STyY26a_dPY It goes over some really nice points on how to make a smoother, more functional platformer controller with concepts such as coyote time and climbing. Still impressive how you managed to create a decently lengthy game in such a short time, and it was really nice to hear the idea of the game came from your son, I found that really nice. Great entry! You should be proud

Shakhmaty by rodel77 2022-04-18T05:32:23Z

This was a super cool concept that fit the theme well! Only issue was I was able to move the king into check, which ended the game. Graphics and Audio were great. Overall a great entry that you should be proud of!

Mia's Bear Service by Lumous 2022-04-06T05:22:19Z

Loved the artstyle and the concept. however I wish the boss fought back somehow. Maybe some boss music would be beneficial as well. Great entry

The Coup by Darylsteak 2022-04-12T05:21:18Z

Little confusing at first but once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed it. This was one of the most innovative games I've played this jam, and I loved the graphics and sounds. Great work!

A Last Stand by RustyMonky 2022-04-12T05:51:52Z

Nice gameplay, however the spike traps could be used to cheese the enemies pretty easily. Wish there was a bit more variety but apart from that this is a solid entry :D

Crystalysis by jordantanner 2022-04-09T12:50:13Z

Cool graphics! Definitely need to fix those performance issues, but apart from that I liked the concept and the atmosphere, good work!

KEYMASHER ULTIMATE by Raivk 2022-04-05T15:51:01Z

ORANGE ROLL ๐ŸŠ by Yokin 2022-04-12T05:11:21Z

Couldn't see the connection to the theme but I liked the graphics and gameplay, wish there was a bit more variety and sound effects though. Overall, decent entry, good job :)

I Will Not Die. by HenanBoy 2022-04-12T12:52:33Z

Super atmospheric and moody, art and sound is amazing. My only suggestions are to add checkpoints because it isn't very motivating to have to play the entire game again, and to make the movement feel a little more responsive. Apart from those small issues this game is truly something to be proud of and a great entry. Great job!

Re: Placement by Outfrost 2022-04-10T02:11:08Z

Fun game! My only suggestion is to move the camera higher or to a top down position, as it's quite difficult to see the components in the back row. Great stuff

Cat in the Bag by JoshH 2022-04-12T06:17:38Z

Really funny game with an interesting premise as well. Graphics and Audio were amazing and the dialogue was well written and funny (probably my highest humour rating yet). Great entry and a big congratulations to the team that put this great game together in such a short time. :D

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-09T12:04:57Z

Such an impressive game! Fantastic work, I hope you release on Steam because I will 100% be supporting this project.

Delay The Inevitable by eboatwright 2022-04-12T03:57:31Z

Very short game but you did say you did not have a lot of time to make it so I won't judge that too heavily. I really liked the graphics and audio but I think you could have added a bit more variety and tried to fit the theme a little better than just naming the ship "the inevitable". Good entry and it appears you achieved what you set out to do so good job

REWOB by alanxoc3 2022-04-12T05:28:46Z

Super cute game, loved everything about it. The simple pixel art graphics were mesmerising and remined me of some of the effects from Celeste, and the chiptune soundtrack was really good. Gameplay was fun and easy to understand. Great entry, the team should be very happy with what they accomplished. :D

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-06T08:13:44Z

@bogden Wow, great feedback. I definitely need to keep balancing the coins to prevent the infinite coin strats, and also work on zombie spawning and pre-round moving to stop them suddenly surrounding the player. A lot of the card descriptions are vague (like the destroy all card), so I'm currently rewriting every card now to be completely accurate and better understood. I agree that health is basically useless in this version, which is why I think adding a ranged enemy will give it a bit more use. Also your final point just solved that bug for me, as I wasn't sure what was causing it, so thanks haha. Really appreciate the time you put into my game :D

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-09T06:29:19Z

@sasquatchbstudios Thanks so much for the review, really appreciate the kind words. I have a list of about 30 new cards I plan to add, as well as some more enemies to keep the later waves fresh, and am still trying my very best to keep the game balanced as I do agree that it is quite hard. Thanks so much for playing

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-09T06:32:16Z

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-10T22:31:19Z

@666savior Thanks for the feedback and for playing the game on stream with @outfrost. I really appreciated the kind words while you guys played.

@dreamscale Thanks so much for playing, I feel like experimenting with the movement system is something I'd like to look into in future builds. Thanks for the kind words :D

@ehon Thanks for playing and for the kind review! It was definitely a lot of work and not a lot of sleep being a one-person team but I'm glad so many people have enjoyed it.

@teammonumental Thanks for the kind words! I do have an idea for multiple characters that I might begin working on soon, and I will keep that larger level idea in mind. Thanks for playing

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-12T13:23:47Z

@cyzaine Hey thanks for the great feedback! Each draw is completely random but I do plan on experimenting with unique cards from each draw to stop the double ups, but I don't think it's something major I need to change atm. I do like the idea of hazards spawning, and there technically is already a fire hazard in the game that spawns from a BFR kill, but that card is super rare so most players won't actually see it. I'd also like to add some "base building" cards of sorts, including placeable spike traps etc. I feel like this could be a cool mobile port as well at some point in the future, so we'll see :) Thanks for playing.

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-13T03:02:05Z

@vixenmink Thanks for playing even though you've already seen it in about 100 other streams haha . Really appreciate your kind words about the music and the graphics, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The zombies walking off the grid was a temporary fix for their pathfinding freaking out about boxes and getting stuck on edges, so I just allowed them to walk off the map, which I don't think is too much of a problem gameplay-wise but it definitely looks unintentional so I will most likely implement the ability for them to break barriers in a later update. Definitely want to make a mobile port and also get back into the YouTube scene so I might make one of those "Making a mobile game in 48 hours" videos that is tradition for every gamedev channel lol. Thanks again for playing and I will most likely see you in another stream chat haha.

GRIDLAST by cakts 2022-04-16T07:11:38Z

@fromage Thanks for playing, Iโ€™m glad you enjoyed! I will most likely keep working on this game and have already started planning a story of some sorts and a bunch more items. ๐Ÿ˜„

Colony Defender by Henrik Ganard 2022-04-05T16:03:38Z

Not much to say that the other comments haven't already, but I really liked the aesthetic you went with, and the camera movement is really great. I felt the game was way too easy, you could definitely make each ship need 5 or more shots to die and I was a little confused about what to do when my human numbers hit 0, and why they went down when I built turrets, but other than that it was a great concept and kept my attention. Good stuff

Lumberjack by DAk001 2022-04-07T16:39:04Z

Great concept, I loved the graphics and audio. There were a few typos but I didn't punish your score for that as I assume English is not your first language. I think having only one tree makes the game a bit easy, maybe if it was a forest of trees being burned down by the ghosts and you had to manage 100 trees instead of 1 then it could definitely be a very stressful/strategic game. Great entry! Good Job

You Are A Bomb by Benjamin Halko 2022-04-09T11:58:56Z

Super cute game! At first I was sceptical of another bomb game but you really nailed the theme in a unique and addicting way. Great work!

This was a super fun jam game! I can't think of anything I didn't like about it so great job!

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-12T03:52:41Z

Very spooky entry, great mood! My only big complaint is that some of the art assets didn't match, for example all the items like the phone and coffee cup did not match the pixel art used for the rest of the game. All the art was fantastic I just felt the composition of these elements could have been better. Apart from that, movement was great, the concept was great, I loved all of it. Super good job to everyone on the team, and good job to @vixenmink who has managed to find me in every single live stream I join hahaha.

The Assessment by Okamit 2022-04-05T16:11:20Z

Had lots of fun playing this, my only complaint is that I think showing the rocket between each mini-game can be a bit abrupt and ruin the fast-paced flow of the games for a 5 second cut-scene between each one. The art style was super great and I loved the audio as well. Great work!

Final countdown by Lamamour 2022-04-12T05:04:58Z

Mouse controls were a little painful but this game is easily one of the funniest I've played, had fun getting every task done and I think the game fits the theme well! Great job :D

The Adventures of: ๐‘บ๐’๐’Š๐’‘๐’‘๐’š ๐‘ฑ๐’๐’† by SephoWepho 2022-04-12T04:04:02Z

Really nice art! I'd recommend telling the player the controls in game because I usually try not to rely on the game page for control information. A bit more variety (moving platforms, lava balls flying up from the bottom of the screen etc.) would definitely make this game replayable for longer. Great entry, you should be proud.

Giraffe o'Clock by Kepsert 2022-04-09T11:51:50Z

Fantastic visuals and insanely self aware. Only few problems I have are the dialogue, which was funny at first but it felt like every bit of dialogue was 4th wall breaking to some degree, and didn't feel very genuine until the end, and the game was a bit too easy imo, even on the harder difficulties. Overall, this is one of the best games i've played this jam, and the team should be very proud.

The Death of Time by OminusGalaxy44 2022-04-12T05:35:48Z

Congratulations on finishing a game in 72 hours! I liked the concept and the lore, but I think you should have stripped down the complexity of the graphics by a lot, as it was very difficult to tell what was happening when the background has as much detail as the characters. Overall a good entry, hope to see you compete in LD51 :)

Losing Your Sheet by rickylee 2022-04-05T16:20:15Z

Loved the art style and music, however I feel like there wasn't much incentive to follow the intended gameplay loop and I got a score above 200 by letting the boat move for 2 minutes without me doing anything. It's a great concept and I'm sure you can take it somewhere. Good work!

Inevitable The Game by Craftgineer 2022-04-10T01:44:00Z

Nice concept, reminds me of some of my favourite old flash games. Only problem I had was during delay the cat, where clicking on the space between letters doesn't count as clicking the word. Great entry though, fits the theme well!

Not usually a big fan of visual novels but this one was a good experience. Great art and story, good job!

This is a really solid entry! Loved the 3D object effect and the UI is incredible (for real, I've never been mesmerized by menus and death screens before). My only suggestions are: - Settings Menu - Explain the base mechanics in-game, not with dialogue (something as simple as having the spacebar above the first gap and C above the first slide area etc.) - Work on the player animations, it felt odd having the slow framerate pixel art animation transition to a smooth slide animation. Both work on their own, but if instead of slowly moving the players head down when sliding you just switched to a 1 frame sliding pose it would feel much better to slide.

Apart from these very minor and nitpicky issues, I really liked this game. Like I said, easily the best UI I've seen yet. Great Job

Great entry, the art style is like a combination of "Aww" and "Eww", and I love it. Super polished, well done.

Dilate the time! by milq 2022-04-09T07:13:03Z

Genuinely impressed with how long I played this for once I understood the mechanics, easily one of the funniest games I've played this jam. Music and audio was good and the graphics gave me some old flash game nostalgia. Platformer mechanics worked great, game was almost philosophical haha. Really awesome work, one of the best (and most unassuming) games I've played this jam. Great work!

Really fun once I got the hang of it. Art and sounds were cool, however I did randomly die after going through a portal? This is an overall great entry and you did a good job :)

Can't Tax Me by SasquatchBStudios 2022-04-09T06:49:20Z

Really cute game! Graphics, audio and animation were great and I had lots of fun playing it. The platformer controls were really smooth, however I feel like this game could have worked better as a top down game, as constantly fighting flying enemies and gravity did get a bit painful at some times. Despite this, I think you have managed to implement the platforming controls well and I would be very happy with what your team achieved in (what appears to be) your first Ludum Dare! I will also check out your Ludum Dare devlog on YouTube after I review a few more games and I hope to see your team competing in LD51! Great work, keep it up

Really nice mood and narrative, however I feel like all spamming J and L did for the game was hurt my fingers lol. Maybe if instead of J and L you had to type "wake up" or "keep going" or something similar, as it felt like the game had two mechanics that fought each other, and I also think that you could remove the need to manually move completely, as the only time I had to move left was to read the letter, but I feel like I could have worked out the word without it. This could let you focus on just the typing, having to multitask between typing "wake up" and "slay" etc sounds more fun than multitasking holding D, spamming J and L and typing the words. Congrats to this very large team of people however, great entry!

Paddle Panic ๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ฑ by Marlon 2022-04-10T05:57:12Z

Super cool game, one of my favourites so far. Maybe add a vertical display on the left under the wind symbol to show the player where they are positioned on the river. Apart from that, fantastic game!

Ambulance Simulator by CaptaiinMz 2022-04-12T04:15:41Z

Really nice entry! I loved the art and how the music kept in time with the heartbeat, and the gameplay was addicting and kept me playing multiple times. You should be proud! Great job

Nice game! A bit difficult and very luck-based but I enjoyed it. Maybe allow the player to smoothly drive between lanes to add a bit more skill to the gameplay? Overall, great entry!

Hey dude, super cool project! Congrats on your first Ludum Dare, I'm impressed you managed to create a fun gameplay loop in scratch! You definitely have a bright future in game development if you stick with it over the next few years, and it's always exciting to look back at what you've made!

I'm 18 and have been making games since I was about your age, here's some of my best tips: - **Start learning how to code in game engines as soon as you can,** it might seem scary but it's definitely worth it. I use Unity engine for my games, but I'd recommend you start with GameMaker Studio. Follow some tutorials on YouTube (I learnt GameMaker from Shaun Spalding www.youtube.com/c/ShaunSpalding) and maybe try recreate some games you've already made in scratch with code! - **Don't delete any of your old games.** You might one day look back at some of your games and think they're cringe or bad and feel like deleting them. Don't! Every game developer starts somewhere and it's always fun to explore the experiments you made when learning game dev. For example, here's my first ever game I made in GameMaker: Capture.PNG When I compare it with some of the images from my newer games, I see how far I've come and that makes Game Dev really worth it.

My final advice is to have fun, you're young and already a very talented developer. I wished my games looked as good as this at the age of 12. Hope some of this helps you in your game dev journey and I hope to see your next game in Ludum Dare 51!

Really interesting concept, I liked the art, and the pathfinding enemies impressed me. Here are some small issues I noticed:

- The player can't move diagonally - The player constantly gets stuck on the box's colliders - Some enemies will run inside the player and not be able to be killed. - There is no way that I could find to kill the rocket launching enemies. - I couldn't see my health bar when the screen covered it almost straight away

These issues are very small and didn't impact me too much however. I feel like this game has some potential and you should be very proud of what you accomplished in such a short time. Great job

Super polished and fun game, got difficult quickly but stayed enjoyable. Really funny entry as well, I laughed when the demon started cat-popping. Such an enjoyable entry that fits the theme fantastically. Great stuff
