Very cool game, But I failed to understand the "king" bit I think. I got stuck at this level, without understanding if taking the "K" would do something or if it's just a collectible.

guine 2021-10-03 13:51

Nice game!

nshbae 2021-10-03 15:09

@dekajoo Press it to use it!

ildenh 2021-10-03 20:08

Good game but a level select menu would be really nice.

joao-ribeiro 2021-10-03 22:53

Great game very creative way to play chess!

tharbakim 2021-10-04 04:58

Nice use of an existing game for movement mechanics, pretty well put together.

2021-10-04 09:38

I enjoyed it a lot, loved the idea of using standard chess pieces for something new :)

2021-10-04 12:39

Clever idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 49 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/d0CZearFG8U

zimny11 2021-10-04 15:22

I love chess so you get some extra "points" just for that :) Really cool and unique concept. It was fun to play!

jcmonkey 2021-10-05 07:23

was a really fun game to play. i always like to see new interesting things done with chess.

xmagpie42 2021-10-05 08:53

Really cool idea for a puzzle game Great Work.

schadocalex 2021-10-05 10:00

Can't rate it but as a chess player loved it!

nshbae 2021-10-05 10:02

@jupiter-hadley Thank you for playing my game. I added more middle difficulty levels for learning advanced movement. Hope you play my updated version!

@ildenh If you play it on computer, you can input the stage you want to play at the start of the game. You just need to press "by nshbae" and input the number of the stage you want to play!

kroporo 2021-10-05 10:07

Really clever and new way of incorporating chess movement! Can't wait to see what you guys do with it post jam!

izaya 2021-10-05 10:14

The puzzle is well-designed, but it's a little be frustrating if there is no rewind option :P. May be a little bit shift from Unstable?

nshbae 2021-10-05 10:17

@izaya It would make the game much easier. So I'm planning scoring system including time spent, total moves and rewinds used. I think player who does not use rewind should get higer score.

concker-88 2021-10-05 10:22

Really excellent. Mechanics are simple to understand but challenging enough to make for a great puzzle game. Lacks just a bit in aesthetics to wrap it up as a complete experience but very interesting game nonetheless.

cakts 2021-10-05 10:32

As an occasional chess player this was a great brain exercise, managed to get perfect score on all levels. Loved everything but the incorporation of the theme was lacking a little. Great stuff and one of the better games I've played this jam :D

nshbae 2021-10-05 10:37

@concker-88 I agree that the game is poor in design. I'm looking forward of adding artworks and characters to each rook, knight and bishop like a game helltaker.

dobrila 2021-10-05 11:03

it was so fun to play! the sounds were satisfying, and the design was made easy for you to continue playing (I liked that you can reset back if you remembered a better move). a really fun idea

dinwy 2021-10-05 11:08

This is such a great puzzle game! I really enjoyed playing this game, reached till 18 stage and stuck over there. stage12.png

nshbae 2021-10-05 11:12

@dinwy Looks like there's another player who outsmarted the developer! Congratulations!

jackroxton 2021-10-05 11:15

a simple, well thought mechanic for a very fun puzzle game to play while on break I can't ask for more.

nshbae 2021-10-05 11:19

@jackroxton glad you enjoyed it!

m0dsat 2021-10-05 11:28

This game is so cool. the mechanics and puzzle difficulty is brilliant. Really well done. Oh, and I managed to beat the record on level 12  Screenshot 2021-10-05 130357.png

nshbae 2021-10-05 11:31

@m0dsat Need to fix some errors for the next version... However, great job and congratulations! Hope you enjoyed it!

bluecalx 2021-10-05 12:37

Clever puzzle game using chess mechanics. Puzzles are smart, and that is the tricky part of making such a game. Good job !! But I felt that the take on the theme was a bit light as everything is 'predictable' and thus 'stable'. The twist with the K is a sweet extension of the concept.

iradchenua 2021-10-05 13:32

Excellent game, I like it at all from falling blocks behind chess board to music and puzzles. I appreciate that u split chess board on pieces that u want. Do u think about to add not right pieces by color ? I mean for some advanced level it could be pieces of same color one near another.

nshbae 2021-10-05 17:14

@iradchenua I think the color of the chessboard itself is a small hint to the player. Because bishop can't move to different color and knight can't move to same color. So, I think player would need them to plan and play the move. Maybe challenge mode with same color? It sounds great to me.

meansquarederror 2021-10-05 19:11

This is fun. It takes the logic of chess, but forces you to think differently about how to use the pieces and their movements. Also, everything is crisp and well-coded: I didn't see any glitches.

I tested and reviewed the game within a youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfAVRo-ZxYM

nshbae 2021-10-06 02:16

@meansquarederror Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed my game!

cabjhegas 2021-10-06 15:00

I really liked the way you mixed chess mechanic into your game. Good job. It was really fun to play

jane-wei 2021-10-07 12:19

Really cool puzzle game! would totally download this as a mobile game for my daily puzzles :p

fear-games 2021-10-07 12:29

Great puzzle game. Love the concept.

tailsgamedev 2021-10-07 12:33

Helloo, I'm watching the game at https://www.twitch.tv/justcamh stream and loving it, congraats. I loved the mechanics: simple and clever. As much people know chess rules, I think it was a hit to use it.

andidebob 2021-10-07 12:35

This game is so cool, a real brain melter, especially once you combine Queens and Kings... But the music and the artsyle really work for a simplistic game such as this. Really well done!

nshbae 2021-10-07 12:55

@jane-wei @fear-games @tailsgamedev @andidebob Thank you for playing! I'll update the UI more intuitive later.

justcamh 2021-10-07 15:09

Hey matey, thanks for submitting the game to stream! T'was a good time, here's the vod if you'd like to rewatch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1169813985

ruruie 2021-10-07 17:29

Saw this on stream. This _is_ indeed a smart puzzle game.

ismael-rodriguez 2021-10-14 00:31

Great chess variant! Imagine GM Hikaru or the Botez sisters playing this on stream :exclamation: :exclamation:

This is a great entry and just needs a bit more polish to be a little bit better. Level select would be very convenient, especially for players who get stuck and wanna come back later without replaying levels...as fun as they are! Some kind of message or tip on how the special abilities work. A limited undo button would be nice, especially for the longer levels; maybe just 1 undo and it lowers your star score to 0?

Even easier than an undo would be quicker access to a reset. Right now it's 2 clicks when it could be 1.

I think the 'unstable' part of the game may be a little under-represented. The pieces changing is predictable (stable), and I didn't encounter any spaces that would break if I stayed on them too long (played to lv 14). It would be quite interesting to see some moving platforms in something like this.

Visually it's nice. I like how the board dissolves away. The raining squares in the bg. The 3D overall is very clean. But it can also look a little bland and boring without anything really shining or glowing. The gray background might also be adding to that bland feel. (I think my game had this grey bg issue too)

Anyway, I liked it a lot! Good job!

nshbae 2021-10-14 09:20

@ismael-rodriguez Thanks alot! Planning more updates including level select, undo, intuitive abilities UI and extra special platforms. And more artworks too! I'll let you know when updated version releases!

jonathan-lorenz 2021-10-20 12:41

? I don't know what happened, but when I click on play, Firefox tells me that "Your browser does not support WebGL.". But I've played numerous games made with unity on my browser since the beginning of the jam. Strange.

maximeg 2021-10-20 21:37

Really nice idea, first puzzle I saw this year

xsangyhix 2021-10-20 22:06

Very nice game. More levels than I thought and made me think hard. It would be nice to have the possibility to adjust audio volume. Additionally it would be nice to see the best number of moves before finishing the level. One last thing, for a jam game it would be nice to have the possibility to check all the levels out withoug having to complete all previous ones.
