LD38 — A Small World

Wee Planet by radmccool 2017-05-01T17:06:07Z

Nice little game, I dunno if its just my poor aiming skills but I found it pretty hard to click sometimes when I felt that it should have hit. Also feels a bit weird not being able to shoot all of the time (as in the laser only fired when you managed to land a hit)

Exit.. space left by HomineLudens 2017-05-01T17:14:12Z

Took me a while of mining into the ground to realise you had to walk off the edge of the asteroid and fly under it. Apart from that fun little game, could have been more indication that the laser was working on the gems though. Currently quite hard to work out what you are mining.

Tiny Colonies by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2017-05-06T09:30:23Z

Thanks for playing everyone!

@izunah Yeah destroying buildings was one of the things on my to-do list but I just ran out of time.

@swamphen I'm afraid the 'ai' of the workers is very primative, the order that you place the buildings sometimes takes priority of which get workers and thus you can get stuck with them not working the farms. It's something I'd want to fix in the future.

@radmccool Nice! Thats actually more than I managed in the most recent version of the game ;). Peoples hunger and sleep is tied to how far they walk, it was intended to be a mechanic to get you to plan your city better but because of the workers poor 'ai' it just ends up with them walking back and forth like you said. Yet another thing I'd try and fix when I get back to working on this game after my exams :D

Tiny Colonies by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2017-05-08T12:27:19Z

@rombus Glad you liked it, not gonna lie I find it hard to play myself (even though I know the exact mechanics behind everything) There is a lot of balancing to do with this type of game that I just didn't get time to do. I love seeing people who are able to work out my strange creation though :D Thanks for playing!

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-01T17:09:16Z

Found the aiming very hard to get the hang of, the grapple never seemed to go where I was pointing. Unique concept apart from that though.

A Bombtastic World by dennyrocketdev 2017-05-01T16:58:05Z

Nice little polished game, easy to pick up and a lot of fun whilst having some difficulty in the later levels that makes you stop and think.

Just You And Your Porch by lilroo 2017-05-01T16:50:37Z

Simple little game, would be better to have some instructions in-game so that you don't have to keep flicking back and forth between the game and this page.

The Inner Lock by EveningWayward 2017-05-01T16:35:11Z

Very creepy, pretty confusing at the start, was sat there waiting for a menu to appear before I realised that I had to press W to start.

RC kitchen Throwdown by oxrock 2017-05-01T17:01:26Z

Apart from the car feeling very sluggish, nice little game. I also feel that the audio of the dog could be a little louder than the noise of you taking damage as it's rather hard to hear.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Jelly Defense by LDP 2022-04-06T21:44:13Z

Cool twist on the typical tower defence style game. Graphics look great and gameplay feels fluid, really satisfying effects when moving the towers around and plopping them down.

I would say to display more of an end screen when the player becomes overrun. In an endless game like this I think it's important to see how far you got through the game as a kind-of score (think it was around round 14 for me).

The Short Dark by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2022-04-09T10:05:59Z

Lota comments so I'll try reply to them all in one :D

@forgin-bits Thanks for giving it a play. Footprints was one of the things we had from the start in our mockup, managed to just squeeze them in before the jam ended!

@adamjn Containers are just found in houses at the moment, you have to open the doors and walk in then you should see them. Thanks for playing!

@fc85057 Thanks for the feedback, happy that we got the vibe right. We would have loved to do more with it but was probably a bit ambitious, ended up a bit more like a tech demo than we would have liked.

@firescape-games Glad you liked it!

@guy-girmonsky We started out with the art vibe then built a game around that so glad you like it! Ideally we'd have a bit more of an in-game tutorial/make it more obvious but ran out of time. Likewise with the enemies we were planning for wolves and other wildlife but that was a bit ambitious :D

@math1369 Good to hear you like the style. The game doesn't have audio, was 2am here when we submitted so forgot to opt-out of audio, have done now (:

@kro Thanks for the review! Yeah there isn't a whole lot of content as we ran out of time a bit, I like the suggestion of more objects in houses, it's something we want to add on as a follow up.

@leiv-erik Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it's a little tech-demoy at the moment. We wanted a bigger/infinite level but we didn't have time to implement any kind of object culling so this is about the maximum we could have before FPS started taking a massive hit (drawing everything with CSS isn't the most performant way of drawing things).

@bougiebirdie I picked it up recently and am loving it! Just on episode 4 at the moment, haven't actually played the survival modes yet so this was a bit of a stab in the dark at how they should play. You can thank @burntcustard for the art, I love it too. We unfortunately didn't have time to make the level bigger/infinite as we started hitting performance issues making it any bigger - the level is procedurally generated but just with a limit on how much is generated :D And yeah, all drawn in HTML/CSS, many mannyyy divs (our second game this way, you'd think we would have learnt by now, at least it was just 2D this time :joy:)

The Short Dark by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2022-04-15T13:44:18Z

@cakts Glad you liked the style, doing everything with HTML and CSS is definitely an interesting way of rending things that's for sure!

@gatlink Oops, now you mention it I never thought about the inventory scrolling. Not sure I ever lived that long with that many items to need it. Running does use up food and water quicker than walking, but maybe it's not enough of a noticeable effect to make a difference. We wanted to have a kind of stamina system too but didn't get it implemented properly in time. Thanks for playing :)

@grumpy-gecko The art style was the main drive in this project so nice to know the style worked for you. I'm personally super happy we managed to squeeze in the footsteps at last minute, I think they add a lot to the feel of the game. Definitely want to take this one further, we ran out of time a little bit with the scope of things to do.

The Short Dark by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2022-04-16T14:20:19Z

@sugarsugarsugar Thanks! We had a lot more planned but ran out of time unfortunately.

@masterofcheese Great to hear you like the style :) It's mine and @burntcustard second project using CSS for rendering now, it can be quite powerful but is a right pain to work with haha. We were planning for an infinite world but didn't manage to get that implemented in time.

The Short Dark by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2022-04-17T16:05:23Z

@zimny11 Thanks! We ran out of time a bit so didn't manage to get as much content in as we wanted in the end.

@noiyy Glad you liked it :) Yeah the map only generates so far, we didn't manage to implement an infinite world like we would have liked and this was about the limit of objects before performance started taking a big hit.

TOOB by Gatlink 2022-04-09T09:50:18Z

Wow, you've nailed it with this one. Very polished, movement feels nice and smooth, audio is great (and a volume slider ), decent end game screen so you can compare against your best times and with friends, just the right amount of frustration and quick jump-back-in that you want to keep going and going again.

Amazing work!

In the end I managed to score 2:46.86, 778 points :D

Across Death Street by Jonathan Lorenz 2022-04-15T17:32:32Z

Cool idea with potential but like you say in the description in it's current state there isn't much gameplay. Graphics look neat, there is a good atmosphere with the lighting, but game was pretty jittery for me.

Beer for the King by SirMichel 2022-04-08T22:22:12Z

Great game! Took me a little while to understand what I needed to do but after that was very fun, could easily see myself spending a lot of time making supply routes.

Could do with some polish in areas like UI but great start for 3 days.

Inevitabone by Leandro4002 2022-04-15T20:52:41Z

Nice! Like how the game is laid out with the UI elements around the playing space, looks really good. Controls feel a bit floaty, not sure if this was intended or not, made it quite hard for me to adjust when in the air. Good job!

The big ADIOS by Tobias Kiehnlein 2022-04-15T20:59:51Z

Neat idea, nice looking graphics too, the style works well. Was a bit confused how the totems worked, they didn't seem to have much effect on death or the humans, maybe I was using them wrong. For the most part I just used the walls. As an improvement maybe some visuals (area of effect etc.) on the totems would be helpful. Nice work :)

Warrior's way by Remn 2022-04-15T17:23:18Z

Cool idea, the graphics look pretty decent. The main sticking point for me is the camera, it started giving me headaches after a few rounds. Also not sure if the game bugged for me but I don't seem to be able to die? My health went to zero but I can keep getting hit without the game ending.

Demons don't breathe by Dreyer 2022-04-15T17:50:59Z

Fun little game, the comic book intro is a nice touch.

Like @jzucc12 said the controls need a bit of work, having WASD for movement and E for attack (things you want to be doing at the same time) is awkward, I found myself playing with one hand on WASD and the other on E. Moving attacks to the mouse would probably be better. Also felt I needed to push into enemies with the movement keys for my attacks to register?

Would also be nice to see an end screen showing how many waves you survived rather than dumping you back to the main menu.

Regardless, good job!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-08T17:17:30Z

Fun game, could do with some kind of score/end screen so you can keep track of how far you got. All I know is I got far enough that the entire screen was filled with Karens :joy:

Night Castle Battle by YaMaisiukDranko 2022-04-15T17:27:03Z

Bit confused at this one? Player can't take damaged and can't attack enemies?

Dike Defender by Raptarr8 2022-04-15T22:46:32Z

Took a bit of getting used to the combat, that charge attack is a bit strange. Cool little game though, the pixel art works really well, movement feels solid and you've got an end screen to show how well you did. Good work!

Snowcastle Meltdown by Noiyy 2022-04-15T17:40:16Z

Cool little game, I managed two days, the castle melts so quickly! Took me a little while to work out what I needed to do, but once I did it was a bit repetitive walking between one trader, one cave and the snowcastle. Would be good to see this developed further, good work!
