LD38 — A Small World

UFO in a box of bricks by maartene 2017-05-05T02:46:26Z

Really enjoyed the music a lot for the game. The little people were somewhat frustrating as I never fulled figured out how to kill them. When you say squash them I first assumed with the ship but that didn't go well, but I was never able to get blocks to fall on top of them. The game is a solid experience, and my only complaint was that it would have been nice to have a fire delay; at least when using the big shots. It was really easy to spam out the huge shots and fill the screen with them, causing all kinds of funky collisions as they bumped into and overlapped each other.

Tub of War by quill18 2017-05-05T02:55:38Z

Had a lot of fun with the game Quill, it handles well and plays well. I was a little sad that I didn't end up watching you make it this LD as I was busy working on my own title; but its nice to see yet another great polished title. Thanks for the game.

Cardboard Cats Online by Ilseroth 2017-05-05T01:25:57Z

What an undertaking for a game jam, I commend you for attempting something crazy like this for the jam. I played up until level 5 almost 6, and got my full cardboard outfit. I thought for the time you had you did a great job, I did find hitting the enemies sometimes to be hit and miss, and there was definitely some lag issues. I enjoyed the art, as well as the inclusion of music. I found myself wishing there was a little bit more content, maybe a couple more rooms with a bit harder enemies, but I can only imagine getting this out being down to the wire.

Great job.

Where is mommy? by jQnas 2017-05-01T19:46:56Z

I loved the atmosphere of the game, it took a little bit of time but I was able to navigate around the house, solve the puzzle and leave the house. I did almost give up after hitting the buttons as I couldn't find where to go, but I found the door I missed after a couple passes.

My only real gripe was the child getting scared and running to a candle, this is neat the first few times but it started happening at seemingly random; I assume it has to do with the ambient light around because she would gasp quite often if I turned and my flashlight was near or passed into the wall.

Overall I enjoyed the horror theme, the art was alright and most of it meshed well. I really liked the look of the main character. Good job guys.

Step-Squish by NumNumDude 2017-05-17T01:34:35Z

Simple, straight-forward, cutsy, and frustrating. I didn't end up playing too long because of the hitboxes in the game, I saw it mentioned in another comment but you can die by just touching a foot even on it's way up, or even if nicks a corner of your hitbox. I found myself in a lot of positions where it seemed near impossible to escape the foot (I realize I was also quite bad at the the game.) Good effort, and @ me if you polish up the game a bit and I'll play it again for fun.

Mallows World Adventure by geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01T19:56:29Z

I enjoyed the humor of the game, and it was a really pleasant experience, from the music to the concept. I found the world a little disorienting and it took a bit of time to get used to the warping that the doors seem to do. I got stuck after digging out the dirt; I see in the comments here that the crowbar is support to open the guinea pig cage but it did nothing for me, I am sure I missed something.

Overall a cute little game.

An Ant World by wolar 2017-05-01T18:21:17Z

As it turns out, I am quite bad at this kind of game. Took me a few tries before I was able to survive the onslaught of the first ant. Interesting kind of game, I enjoyed the sounds as well as the art style. The first time the screen shook it took me off guard, and after it was over I thought to myself 'neat'.

I would have liked a small mission early on to ease me into the core experience; as it seems quite difficult until you get used to the mechanics, but overall it is well done,

HexaHover by AJ Weeks 2017-05-01T22:50:51Z

Really enjoyed the controls for this, I felt it handled really well with a controller. Not so great with a keyboard though. Going to set this aside to play with a full group of friends for sure, I can see people having a blast with a full roster. It's a big undertaking to develop a multiplayer game for a jam but I think you guys succeeded and have a fun concept here for sure. Good work guys.

Planet Desumaton by SiegfriedCroes 2017-05-01T15:49:53Z

Hey, really loved the art style in the game, the expressions of the planets / asteroids is great, and I found the use of your 'mood' as a representation of your health a great way to handle that while keeping the UI to a minimum. I wasn't able to beat the first (only?) planet after several attempts, but I was quite entertained the whole time. I did notice a minor bug in that the opponent health bar doesn't reset on a new attempt until the first hit. Very minor, but when I first saw that I expected I may have a chance against him; but it promptly reset to full after the first hit.

Good job.

Edit: Just went back and beat the planet. As I leave the page I noticed in your gif that you could throw the asteroids, and that made the fight a lot more engaging; and easier.

Annulus by Zarkonnen 2017-05-01T18:48:05Z

Hey, awesome game, had a lot of fun exploring it. I really enjoyed the art style of the game, as well as the music. Like @mutfak-studios I ran into the populate every turn and not being allowed to do anything else. It did happen on the first time that event popped up so it must just get stuck in that loop. I would like to explore the world a bit more and read the rest of the 'monuments', so I will keep my eyes out for a post-compo bugfix.

Also, the camera zoom does get slightly annoying on repeated movements, but not really a deal breaker; and I do like the emphasis it provides when viewing new structures.

littleBLASTplanet by gamepopper 2017-05-05T02:22:41Z

Simple but effective, I turned out to be really bad at the game (thanks for gamepad support by the way, that made life easier.) But overall liked the concept and the art style grew on me as I kept on playing. I think the music added to the easier and I am glad you took the time to generate some with Abundant and add it; I feel as though the experience would be bland without it. Thanks.

Chill Bill by drtizzle 2017-05-01T23:01:20Z

This is probably the most amusing game I've played for the jam, the humor definitely hits home with me. I love the audio cues and the animated sequence when you buy a (missing) sprite. Only had a couple issues with the game, the biggest that I feel your stress climbs a tad rapidly. The second being fart bombs being dropped in your immediate area, which I think leads to part of my first issue; if you get caught in that fart bomb unintentionally you may as well kiss your sanity goodbye.

Definitely had a good time with this, even though my high score was pretty pitiful.

Food Fight by Scornz 2017-05-05T01:47:01Z

Interesting idea for a traditional twin stick shooter. I played a couple times and wanted to keep going to get higher in the leaderboards; but after a couple plays decided I had an understanding of how I felt about the game. I liked it, I had fun with it, however I found myself getting frustrated with the colliders in the game. I think it would have been nicer if when you bumped an edge that you slid along it as opposed to getting 'caught' by it. There were a few times where the colliders on a couple objects weren't exact and I would get stuck trying to pass between them. It also would have been nice if the falling food squashed the enemies as well, since if they land on an enemy you can actually shoot the object off the table.

Good job, I also enjoyed the diversity of the artwork but I see you opted out so.

DUCKTRON by neontropics 2017-05-01T22:20:02Z

Ran through the game a few times trying to get a good high score, seems like the optimal way to play is hunt down that flashing duck and get him while ignoring the others. Anytime I tried to confront the others they would lay waste to me. I liked your music track for it quite a lot. The only real issue I had with the game was the abrupt ending when you died, many times I'd skip over and start a new game because I was in the middle of mashing x. The performance seems fine on the web version, at least for me.

Vespuccia by dusho 2017-05-05T02:28:35Z

I nearly did not make it to the end of the level, collected the last rum barrel with 6 hp left. Was an interesting experience that played well from start to end. Enjoyed the multiple weapon options that were present and liked the idea of collecting them off of fallen enemies. I would have like to have seen more levels but all in all, well done.

LD38: Planetary Command by schiapu 2017-05-01T15:04:46Z

This game is definitely quite a challenging experience even on normal. I am however, not so sure that is a good thing. I found the difficulty to be arbitrary and due to the speed of the incoming asteroids. Sometimes it felt like you didn't even move around the planet fast enough to get around to the other side in time to stop a collision. It seems as though the speed is fine when they come from left or right, but if they come top or bottom they just come in too fast.

The mechanic of having to dodge of the alien shots while still trying to destroy the asteroids was interesting, but I had to completely ignore it. If I stopped to dodge a shot I would let an asteroid hit the planet so one way or another it was over.

For me personally it is a very loose interpretation of the theme, which isn't a big deal as I would rather a fun game than a game that stuck completely to the theme anyways.

Aside from the issues I did play the game a few times (highscores, normal: 19, hard: 13.) I feel like I would have played a bit longer had the game felt a bit more fair to me. The sprites and sounds are simple but they do the job and the game is very playable.

Goo Game by koreus7 2017-05-01T15:37:20Z

I really enjoyed the concept of this game. While I unfortunately got stuck early on because I am bad at puzzle games, I had a lot of fun trying to figure things out and progress. I enjoy the minimalist art-style and the music was quite nice as well. My only issue in the time I played with the game was I wish there was something that explained the modifiers you can place down. It isn't hard to experiment but when first encountering a new modifier it would have been nice for a little blurb that said what it did.

Mind's Eye by Kosmo 2017-05-05T02:07:18Z

When I started reading the comments, I was thinking that this sounded like a really cool tactical game with programmable movement; something that is quite common in modern board games but I don't think is really done in any modern computer games. As it turns it it was a really cool and really fun mechanic. You executed it quite well; and while I was bad at it, I still had a great time. Thanks for making this.

Tiny Colonies by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2017-05-01T19:23:58Z

What a wonderful little game. I really like the way you have presented the game, the art style while very low bit pixel art, conveys all the information you need to manage your planet. I would have liked to have been able to destroy / remove buildings or trees that I created in order to re-arrange and re-optimize the things I need on the go; however it's not a deal breaker.

Little Mouse Planet by Frodewin 2017-05-01T23:17:30Z

I've only seen a little bit of Scratch and from the little that I've seen you've accomplished something pretty impressive. I enjoyed the game and the art is very cutsy, as well as the sound assets. My biggest gripe was the visual feedback I got, I wish I could tell / reinforce that I am doing the right actions when watering plants. My logical reasoning is that the more I water the faster they grow(do they grow when not being watered?)

Great job, I cannot imagine the degree of difficulty it was undertaking this.

World Battles by Thinkofname 2017-05-01T22:41:45Z

I like this idea a lot, I hope that you choose to flush it out more in the future. I played for a little bit and after the first wave felt like I could kill anything that came my way. I only died because me and 2 other planets got stuck together, then the rest swarmed and destroyed me. I would have liked to see some variety in the weapons, and maybe a few weaker planets in the early waves to ease you into it; but I had fun regardless.

Connected World by beetracks 2017-05-01T14:40:39Z

I found this title interesting, and played through it a couple times. My biggest issue with the game is the best way, is to play is to leave it idle for a bit of time; for me personally, that was not fun. If perhaps there were another mechanic that you could do while waiting for animals to respawn; alternatively maybe if they respawned in a different way. (Maybe jaguars pop up in high densities of rabbits, rabbits propagated faster when there was many.) I would say I spent a solid 60+% waiting for respawns because I'd run low on food and had to wait for enough rabbits to spawn around me, to keep up the balance.

It would have also been nice if you had different ways to get to the castle; but if you allowed bridges to be building together on 2 wide spaces you could get to the castle much earlier. Minor issue, and doesn't really affect your first play-through.

Overall I did enjoy the title, it made me come back a couple times to get the best ending I could. I found the artwork to be cohesive and I liked the aesthetic; I feel the music also fit quite well with the game.

Super Small-io World! by micahcowan 2017-05-05T01:55:26Z

Fun little title you have here, I did find myself getting a tad frustrated with the coin respawn time. Unless you get a perfect scenario it is quite difficult to gather up all the coins, I tried a couple times and I think the closest I got was about 2-3 coins away. I really enjoy the Mario galaxy style galaxy, and was quite sad to find the game was only 4 bodies, I think this could have been a lot more fun with some more places to go. Thanks for the game.

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-01T17:45:34Z

Thanks everyone for your comments!

@theslate Ah that would have been a good idea, increasing the spawn rate of the enemies over time. That's something I'll look at for my update for family and friends.

@wolar @clegamecoop The time your allowed to destroy the enemies is quite small, I think it's half a second. I initially had it longer but that would result in you being stopped and swarmed too easily. I had thought about making you instantly kill enemies, but that took out part of the strategy I had intended.

@zarkonnen That probably comes down to the difficulty of aiming, it is my biggest gripe with the game and something I wish I was able to fix before the end of the compo.

@mhgamework @physcokillermonkey I'm glad you guys enjoy the concept as well, I think it would be a lot more fun when I iron out the aiming issues.

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-02T01:55:56Z

Thanks everyone, I see the aiming is a big issue. I knew about it / didn't like the feel completely during development but chose to not / ran of time to fix. Given that is has hampered a lot of peoples experience I regret not fixing it.

@scornz I chose not to opt out of any categories as I feel my game should be rated / judged based on what is and is not there. I probably should have opted out of humor and mood as they don't really apply but may be too late now. I didn't use any outsourced art, music, or sound so I feel it is right to criticize the use of primitive shapes and the lack of music, etc.

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-02T22:25:05Z

@kosmo I wish I was able to put music in, while playtesting I spent a lot of time with music on in the background and that greatly improved the experience; hopefully next LD. Your right that it does feel like a mob herder in many ways, I think that would have been helped out if I had got around to making the floor panels disappear at random. Also different enemy types would have went a long ways. Thanks :).

@gamepopper Yeah so, the issue with the aiming is when I first implemented it early on I assumed that since I rotate the character to the mouse pointer that by simply firing the grapple along the forward axis it would go where the mouse was. The was a huge mistake, I found the aiming wonky while testing and I wish I had spent the 10 minutes to fix it; I think the fun factor would have been much higher. In my post-jam patch I'm working on for friends / family / etc I fixed the aiming and the experience is so much better. Thanks :).

I am currently working on the tutorial so I can show the game off to more friends, but tomorrow I plan on looking at / rating more games. I will definitely get to the rest of the games in my comment section that I haven't hit up yet, that's a promise!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-01T15:23:41Z

Overall this is a really fun and solid title, and I really enjoyed it a lot.

While It definitely doesn't seem to fit the theme at all, you guys went on to create a very fun and compelling game anyways. I quite enjoyed the art style of the game, as well as the music.

My biggest gripe with the game is there is no health bar as far as I can tell. It makes it hard to make the right judgment calls ingame.

My only other gripe is that I find the lock on quite slow. I am sure that is intentional but I feel like I'm only looking on when I get lucky or force myself to take a couple hits (especially on the harder enemies.)

Beware The Idiots by Gris 2017-05-05T02:15:49Z

Great job finishing your game in time for the end of the compo, that in-itself is a great accomplishment. I enjoyed your game, was a funny concept and I think for your first LD as well as it sounds like your new to programming in general; that you did a good job. Like @maggardjosh I also had issues with some sperm going past the walls, but besides that everything else worked fine. I agree with basically everything in your bugs section of the entry page.

The Wonky Wizard by MHGameWork 2017-05-01T19:15:49Z

Fun experience you have here, it felt like you guys put in quite a bit of content over the 72 hours and I really appreciate that. Like the previous comment mentions, I think lightning might be a little powerful as it easily destroys every enemy type. I didn't finish the game, I stopped after the tenth wave as it felt like an inflation on the play time, and after kiting and getting the enemies stuck behind rocks 10 times over, I didn't really want to push further.

I like the voxel art style you have going on, and the take on the theme is fine, moving around and watching the planet rotate was cool, but the camera movement was jarring sometimes as it seems to have forced rotations at different points on the islands.

I would have liked to have finished the game but the wave island dragged on far too long for my personal taste.

Edit: Forgot to mention, would have been nice to have had an indicator to tell how much your fireball has charge up, or a sound effect to give a general idea the force it was going to come out at.

Tetripolis by kasarun 2017-05-01T16:27:55Z

Wow! This was quite the unique concept, and I really enjoyed this idea. Congratulations on accomplishing all this is 48 hours. I didn't have any issues with the game as I playing it. The only thing I would have liked is if the score stayed visible on the tiles as you tested out different layout; however I could see why that may have been a design decision not too. I was able to get 2 coins on levels 1-5, however I didn't dive into the hard levels; definitely saving this to come back and play more later on.

Good job!

Tetripolis by kasarun 2017-05-02T22:18:00Z

@kasarun My scores are 1658, 1639, 2314, 1456, 1958. I'll be honest I focus more on fitting my pieces in than trying to optimally put buildings in, so I could probably nab a few three stars if I played a couple rounds.

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-17T01:28:37Z

Enjoyed my time with the game, I thought the game ended when I finished Lisbon, and didn't notice until looping a couple times that it goes on (forever?.) I found myself wishing that you could speed up by just holding the up arrow. The sound was quite loud, and scared me a little bit when I first crashed, resulting in me having to turn my volume down quite low to make the sound not so intrusive.

Whale Fall by theslate 2017-05-01T17:57:21Z

Early on I found it quite hard to get higher, but it seemed like once your reached a certain point, a ton of the whales would flood down. Although the game is quite simple, I was driven with the desire to see where the whales were coming from. I was not expecting the little twist at the end, and it definitely summed up the experience.

Defend the Earth by Scrumplesplunge 2017-05-01T16:45:53Z

Really fun shooter, it took a bit of time to get the feel for the controls, but after I did, I really enjoyed the way it handled.

Immediately I was grabbed by your font, it feels very hand drawn in paint and I surprisingly enjoyed that quite a lot. I love the mechanic of knocking the enemy shots away with your own, and basically overpowering them with your barrage of rounds; I found the game quite frantic as I raced around trying to draw the enemy fire away from the planet. My only real criticism is the gunfire, it does feel a little repetitive after awhile, especially when you spam the left mouse button like I was.

Overall, Good job!

A Small World (how original) by lilkrit 2017-05-17T01:41:45Z

Simple game but quite fun, I didn't really have an big gripes with the game, it played well and I had fun. The few things I can think of are that it would have been nice if the game didn't let you heal your monuments more than max. I found the game a bit too easy with your mana regenerating too fast; resulting in what could have been a strategic game, lacking strategy. This could be a really cool concept if fleshed out into a more complete game.

Small World by JimmyBG 2017-05-01T23:29:24Z

This is definitely the most unique experience I've had in the jam so far. It's a gorgeous looking game, but the controls on keyboard are atrocious. I quickly switched over to a controller where it was far easier to handle. I had issues with the camera, and it quickly became hard to gauge where a block was in relation to you and whether or not you could make the jump. I feel like the game could be a little less punishing in that aspect. As another commented I think the game lacks perspective which would help determine your position in relation to the other blocks. I hope you choose to pursue and expand this title cause it would make for a fun little game.

Polar Conflict by Jaenis 2017-05-01T22:32:41Z

Scrolling shooters like these are some of my favorite games, I got some Super Stardust vibes from this game; which really made me wish there was a bit more enemy variety going on(and maybe a different model for enemies as opposed to yourself to help differentiate.) Even though the controls felt a bit floaty, after a little bit it handles well enough. I found the enemies a bit unrelenting and dangerous; you definitely wanted to avoid head on confrontations. I also quite enjoyed the music, and feel it fit very well with the title; a solid pick.

Tiny Hadron Collider by clegamecoop 2017-05-01T18:55:54Z

This would definitely be a good game for a mobile device. I unfortunately don't have a working android device to test your build out on there however. The game takes a bit of getting used to, and its important to learn how to properly place the wells to affect your speed. Once you get used to it however, it does feel very rewarding. I also enjoyed the art style, simplistic yet sharp.

Little Scout by Tex Killer 2017-05-05T02:39:26Z

I was so sad when the game ended after jumping up on the spring. This was a really neat mechanic and I would have loved to have seen more of it. I really enjoyed the music and thought the art was relatively cohesive. Thanks for the game; if you ever expand the game I would love to play more.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Running the Marathon by gamepopper 2017-08-01T18:15:57Z

I liked the art style, and I wish I could learn from you to keep it simple. While not overly complex its simple, straight forward, and doesn't need to be explained. I did find the sounds to be repetitive though, but decent job overall.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Diver by TimBeaudet 2018-12-05T02:03:02Z

I really felt the game lacked some atmosphere that could have been gained by even a couple sound effects. I didn't understand what I had to do and I would have loved to have seen even just some text telling you how to play the game initially (use the arrows). Once I hit a bunch of random keys and found the arrows keys controlled movement I took the to ocean, collected 5 coins and won the game... not sure how I won but I did.

Catapoultry by Eric777 2018-12-31T17:49:40Z

Simple but fun mechanics, had a good time played. Good job.

Puppyups by commanderstitch 2018-12-29T19:01:25Z

You were right, I didn't feel the theme, but that isn't always the most important thing. Making and finishing something is paramount; having two players was a nice addition to the game. I found the actual game screen to be overwhelming with the dogs everywhere, and I didn't managed to collect many as I kept grappling into the walls; wish I could have grappled in more than the four directions. Well done finishing the game!

Sunset Empire by Aggrathon 2018-12-30T00:38:23Z

Overall enjoyed the game, found it extremely easy, I lost a couple times from not paying any attention at all to piety. I'm not 100% the benefit I was getting from attacking the enemy places but it quickly happened that there just didn't seem to be a challenge at all. I think the art worked well for what you had to do; but was overwhelmed by the choices at my disposal.

Sacrifarm by martincohen 2018-12-05T02:23:50Z

Really simple, really straight-forward, really fun. I loved the art, the music, and the gameplay loop for the time I played it. I found it a little too easy, and would have loved to see a bit more of a challenge but overall I had a great time with this game, ended up playing it far longer than I had expected to when I first started. Great job!

We The Believers by kiv 2018-12-30T00:28:21Z

I had no idea what I was doing... sometimes people blew up, sometimes a giant Twitter appeared in the sky. Sometimes the sky even rotated around all funky. Interesting concept, would have like a bit more direction; and like a previous poster said would have been nice to drop both food and water so that you could satisfy both those needs at once; but I suppose that the price you need to pay for waiting till the last minute to keep your followers alive.

Dead Weight by block97 2018-12-29T19:56:10Z

Awesome idea, I really enjoyed this game a lot. I think the fog of war was a tad excessive, but it worked to create some really interesting puzzles with your eyes and body parts. A few times I was thinking to myself "how in the world do I solve this?" and thankfully the game is intuitive enough that you get an idea, and can try it, and it can work. You did an awesome job

Mary had a sacrificial lamb by Nikolaj 2018-12-04T03:52:06Z

I browsing on my phone looking for playable games. Came across yours, thought it didn't work until I saw your comment on landscape. Nice simple game, a bit too easy but kudos for making a game that also runs fine on mobile.

Price of Power by Hilvon 2018-12-29T19:34:28Z

I would have killed for a tutorial or a better explanation on the fly on how to play. I figured out how the sacrificing to play cards part of it all worked out but I never seemed to damage the opposing player and I couldn't figure out how to activate abilities even though I could afford them. Good job on the finishing the game though. Some sort of difficulty ramp up would have been nice as well.

Mindu's Hope by Bendev_Games 2018-12-05T00:31:25Z

I worried early on that the game was going to be too easy, then I quickly hit a wall that I personally couldn't overcome and I was like "This is what I wanted." Fun game, I love grappling mechanics, it took a bit to get used to the swinging but once you get it working for you it plays really well. I'm not sure how many levels there are in total or how close I was to beating it. While you sacrifice a lot of mindu's I didn't really feel punished at all for doing so; so I might have thrown a few hundred or so into the pit for fun.

Miserable Morene and the Raiders of the Gold Blum by Izunah 2018-12-05T01:01:07Z

@budark Yes, I did all the coding myself, my collaborators did the art and the music for the game, but the design was largely my own and the coding fully my own.

Eztli by lilkrit 2018-12-29T20:38:42Z

I would have liked to have a small tutorial for the controls of the games, maybe even a splash screen that was like "push this to pick up". Thankfully it defaulted to E like a regular game so it wasn't over difficult. Sound would have been great, but taking on a 3D first person game for a jam is a feat in and of itself, so I commend you for the effort.

Wolf Trouble by Bonelazy 2018-12-29T19:08:56Z

I thought the graphics and the idea of the game were great overall, however I highly disliked the shooting mechanic. I would have liked a more accurate shooting style that wasn't so bloom based. Or at the very least having no bloom at all with the first shot. I was really bad at decided whether to make more sheep or to make money; and as a result kept dieing on the 4th/5th nights. Great job on the game

Elektrix by GameWolves 2018-12-29T18:41:44Z

Liked the game, took a little bit to understand what I needed to do, so I re-read the description and looked at the screenshots and had an 'aha' moment. I enjoyed the art style, and like the management of moving away from the generator and coming back to it for energy. My biggest gripe was I wish it was easier to move the battery around. I think a 'tether' style mechanic would have been really nice, maybe trade off energy / speed to drag the battery around with you. But overall good job!

Fridge Raider by BytingGames 2018-12-29T18:19:36Z

Overall I thought this was a neat concept, I think I would have had a much better time if there was an easier way to distinguish between the salty and sweet foods. I had a really hard time 'killing' my student, as I'd go on a good streak of damaging him then be confused as to what other foods might harm him.

Sheepy by FROG5TAR 2018-12-30T01:05:32Z

I highly disliked the perspective for the game with the dragging and dropping of the sheep, I found it quite difficult to know where my sheep was going to go once I dropped him. I almost would have preferred the shepherd picking up the sheep and carrying it to the current setup. On a more positive note however I really enjoyed the art style of the game, and it fit the theme quite well; great job.

Odie Brought Mom Flowers by Psychedelia 2018-12-29T19:22:20Z

My mom really enjoyed the dead flowers I brought her.

Volcano Island by Arvejeitor 2018-12-05T00:59:42Z

Enjoyed the game quite a bit, once I caught onto the pattern mechanic it made the game a lot easier, just boiled down to a memory game. I found the graphics very quaint and fitting; I think while the sound isn't being rated on that the music and sound fit very well with your art and the game. My only real gripe with the game is it seems the redheads are rarer than other spawns and there was a lot of downtime waiting for the spawns. I kind of wish the game prioritized the people in your 'queue' as it were. Good job with the game, I'm glad I checked it out.

Duof by island-jam-2-group-3 2018-12-29T18:28:58Z

Game played fine, I wish there was a bit more definition in the background or some land marks when you are not near the edge so you can 'tell' you are moving around. I had a little chuckle when your mechanic was similar to my games, as a result the mechanics came very fluidly. For awhile I thought I'd never die in the game but slowly but surely my life drained and I got a game over. Great job with the game.

Don't Take my Stuff! by OrionDark7 2018-12-29T19:26:29Z

Game ran fine, but then it started to lag uncontrollably up to the point of just not moving at all. In the background cmd window it kept spamming something about sRGB profiles.

Dwarf Climbers by Sky 2018-12-05T02:14:20Z

I mentioned this in the comment of another title as well, but I personally dislike the donation popup for downloading of a Ludum Dare title to play and review. Anyways...

When I saw you had to control two dwarves at once, I was thinking "Oh man, this is going to hurt." But turns it felt great, I had no problems navigating both dwarves around and the controls reacted well and were fluid. I was immediately disappointed that obstacle didn't block your string, I really feel that would have taken the game over the top (no pun intended); as in it's current state it's pretty easy, and I didn't really see any sacrifices being made, besides maybe giving up a gold patch here and there. I liked the graphics a lot but there was weird artifacting going on with what I presume to a missing texture for the unclimbable parts of the mountain.

Overall had a good time, played it a couple times to beat my highscore, best I did was a 57, but I never really went horizontal much if at all. Good job.

Escape from Arex by Hare Software 2018-12-29T17:42:23Z

I enjoyed the game quite a bit and liked the graphics a lot. I found it a bit short, and I also found it quite difficult, I think a laser sight would have gone a long way, the drone fight sequence felt awfully punishing after the first room. Overall thought it was well done, good job on the game.

Wanted to get this out the way first: Just a personal issue, but I didn't like the fact that you have to go through the donation screen to download the game. I really feel like that should be disabled on a jam game, but anyway, on to my comment..

Once I got in the game, I had a ton of fun, the game feels really well polished and is genuinely fun to play. The game however I found to be too easy, until it wasn't; you rapidly approach a part where you are moving so quickly it becomes incredibly hard to dodge obstacles let alone process what is happening. I thought the game was visually pleasing, and the music I enjoyed a lot; I think you guys did a great job.

The Shrining by Hunter Towe 2018-12-29T20:30:33Z

Interesting game for sure, I enjoyed it the first time through but didn't really want to do all that walking around again in order to try for the other endings. I think the highlight of the game was the story for sure, good job with the game.

SmallCult by AlexKishchinskiy 2018-12-05T00:21:53Z

I clicked on the tutorial button but I wasn't sure I actually got a tutorial because it felt like I just hopped into the game; and it didn't explain really how to do anything. I got the gist of what was going on, very reigns like; I managed to get all my god to max support but my people lived in extreme fear and I lost... ah well such is the life of a cult ruler. Interesting game, I think it fits the theme well, but I would have liked more to do than just make offering, especially since you offered an expansion screen with lots of stuff to potentially click on.

CaveSlime by YiNian 2018-12-29T18:01:58Z

I didn't like the controls at first but sort of got used to them after a little bit. I liked the idea of a lot but I didn't end up finishing it because some of the parts got a little bit frustrating due to the collisions in the game. I think the game fits the theme fantastically and for your first entry I think you did a great job overall.

Shine by Jackson_makes_games 2018-12-30T01:13:06Z

I found the progression of the game to be brutally slow, I was worried it wasn't ever going to get challenging; and it never really did until in wave 5 when I got utterly swarmed by 4 shield red balls; I'm not sure if that's an intended death or a bug that spawned a massive amount of enemies. I liked the concept a lot, and while simple thought it was executed well; good job.

Blast Ant Omega by 302_Dave 2018-12-30T00:59:50Z

Really enjoyed this a lot, definitely one of my favorite games this Ludum Dare; I'm glad I downloaded and installed Java to play it. I liked the art as well as the music a lot; my only real gripe was the game was extremely easy for quite a long time. The first challenge that I came across was racing the two green ants to kill them to 1. save the brown ants, and 2. kill the ant on the block to open the path. Fantastic game for sure.
