I've never been more at peace sacrificing chickens to a volcano god before. What a wonderful game. As someone who also featured chickens this jam, I commend you :chicken:

Great game! The gameplay felt good and the art style complimented the gameplay well. A timer system would've added some challenge but overall it was a great game

samuel-fine 2018-12-04 23:10

Thanks for not hurting the chickens! My 5-year-old thought the game was hilarious.

Nice graphics, chill music, wind in the wings of your chickens. Simple, polished and very fun to play. Great job!

i give it a high score in mood

@dazzumbledor - Thanks! Once we got the music in, we decided to lean hard on the "super chill" vibe, I'm glad it came across. We were even going to add the occasional "Jack Handey" quote onscreen, but ran out of time.

@sthor726 - We thought about adding a timer, but decided it would break the 'relaxation' mood.

@samuel-fine - Wouldn't dream of it! And a laughing child is the best payoff we could think of!

It was hard to start off but when you get to understand how it works the game becomes so enjoyable. Love it.

This is a very funny game! The graphics are enjoyable and I liked chickens' 'quacks' a lot :D

Nice little game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Lq0vHUPYciI

Like a relaxing version of angry birds, not a bad idea! The volcano could have some animations depending on how you hit it with the chickens perhaps

Very cute and relaxing, would've loved a bit more variety!

Nice job!

After spending a few minutes just playing with the physics for fun, spamming the action key to see how far / near I could throw the chickens, I won. o/ This kind of small & fun game is always a pleasure to test in LDs, it reminded me a mix between the Yeti Sports Games and Angry Birds. I didn't encounter any bug a problem and the control is correct.

The music is nice and relaxing and the sound effects are also well made.

As for the graphics, I liked the cartoonish vibe from them. Having one side of the Volcano God bigger than the other is a nice touch. It helps the player without being a big helping hand thrown at his face. I suppose the lava disappearing as you feed him is a way to symbolize that he's less and less angry. :p Or the chicken like to sip a good bowl of lava in the morning.^^

Adding a limit of chickens you can throw would be a bit too Angry Birds like, but since the lava goes down for each chicken that make it in his rocky stomach, maybe making the lava go up when you miss could make the game a bit more challenging.

This game is great! 10/10 would play this while sitting in the bathroom again. It was actually pretty fun once I got the hang of it. The beginning was a little infuriating though. Good game!

eric777 2018-12-10 17:59

@ogma Thank you very much!! I think that's the most detailed feedback we've had in any prior LD! Also, I really like the idea of having the lava rise over time to add difficulty. That's an excellent idea.

@ryfi Thanks!!!!! Yeah, it's definitely super casual. We updated it after LD with touch screen support and I have it perpetually running on a shelf in my office. Every time I walk by I toss in another chicken. The beginning is indeed a little hard to tell what's happening with the trebuchet. Hopefully not too hard.

Nice game! Very fun to play. Loved the physics of the catapult.

And welcome to the Volcano's brotherhood. My game has a volcano too! xD

Deceptively simple, this is a polished and fun physics game. Like, Angry Birds Classic grows up and joins Mensa :) And with a nod to the physics joke about spherical chickens in a vacuum? Minus the vacuum? (Chicken bounce motion and sound suggest spherical wooden balls to me :) )

It's quite tricky at first to figure out how to land a chicken in the volcano, but once you get it you can have regular hits.

A great game mechanic, good graphics, music and sounds. Minor point: I noticed an ongoing background noise that might be the creaking of the trebuchet plus possibly the rolling of (spherical?) chickens - this sound continues when there is (apparent) stasis on screen. I don't know if this is intended? Or (I just thought of this) maybe it's the rumbling of the volcano?

A nice addition might be to display a count of the number of chickens that went astray (some are visible but some are catpoultried off-screen...)

Thanks for a great game, I love it!

And welcome to the chicken brotherhood, there are 25 of us!

I did it! After so many freaking chickens, the blank staring Volcano God has been appeased! This fills me with much satisfaction. This game has so much charm to it. I love the little sounds that the Chickens make every time you launch them as well as the subtle mood of everything to this game. Well done on this :D

aurel 2018-12-31 17:39

That was... surprisingly relaxing.

I was a bit disappointed to see a chicken sacrifice (we were a goat-based team)! The controls were smooth once I got the hang of it and I found it to be really nice and enjoyable. Clearly, short of adding obstacles or more levels, this was a great first step to something and could turn out to be really fun if you kept at it and added more.

If I was disappointed when I won, it's because I wanted more :)

izunah 2018-12-31 17:49

Simple but fun mechanics, had a good time played. Good job.

Always a pleasure to see what the chicken-leaning teams come up with.

The game is a bit on the safe side in terms of a jam entry, but that works in its favor in terms of polish. I managed to get 12 chickens in before the game restarted.
