LD38 — A Small World

Alchemist's Prison by Max Amaden 2017-05-07T16:42:41Z

This is great! The graphics are superb! I love all the potions, the ingredients, the flames, everything is perfect :)

In terms of gameplay I love the idea and what is in the game. I am however a bit sad there isn't more to do because i would love to be challenged with some challenges while brewing or some choices and something to do with my gold.

The mood is where this game really shines! The setting and talking customers combined with the graphics just works.

More Room! by Skosnowich 2017-05-07T15:39:21Z

This crashes on startup for me :( Win10 64-bit, java 8 update 101

Dream World by Mordokay 2017-05-14T10:09:08Z

One of the best entries ive seen so far!

- The audio and mood is super cool, its simple but brings so much to the game - I like the graphics and the low poly yet distinct style. Gives alot of depth to the game. Might be even better with a bit more balance color palette - The combination of tower defense & resource gathering is very nice, it induces a sort of stress in me which drives me to kill them aalll. I did manage to beat the game by putting a single turret at each spawner.

Thats about the only feedback I have on the huge amount of content in there.

My main suggestion to add would be to have a bit more player choice in where to place the turrets. Since the enemies come from everywhere and the turrets can be everywhere there is not really much decision making in the placing of the turrets. Some simple obstacles like mountains on the map would make some chokes for the enemies and really add Alot to the towerdefense aspect of the game!

Great Entry!

Cell Division by steve 2017-05-14T10:37:14Z

This is sooooooo preeeety. I love the way it looks, the way its polished. The graphics are great. I like the concept of the game, i think it is pretty cool. With the amount of gameplay in there i played for about 2 mins before running out of things to do so thats still pretty sweet. But the amount of gameplay did seem a bit limited for a game. The value of generators seemed unclear.

The audio, yet simple, is Bleep Bloop perfect!

You should really add a targeting reticule, as now it is fairly impossible to shoot. I saw your comment about relative cursor, so maybe just draw a line in your shooting direction, like in alien swarm

ChronoCombat by omarshehata 2017-05-14T10:23:26Z

You did two things: 1 You choice a innovative concept and 2 you made a multiplayer game.

I salute you! Respect.

Sadly i did not really manage to kill myself. You are mising some key elements in this game which would make it very captive to play. Maybe - A way to replay the scene you can see what happened. It plays back SOOO fast i dont even know whats happening. - A world with some more recognizable landmarks. You make something where the camera changes alot so you need recognizable points in the world. - Maybe a movement trail to see where the player was or get some clues

I eagerly await your next LD entry :)

Astro-Bastard Drunken Rampage by Zarkith 2017-05-14T13:40:16Z

I love the name and concept of the game. The character and animations are very nice, impressive! I spent some time stomping the planet, but there is not much of a challenge/choice/variety to it, making it more a game to watch than to actually play. Some ideas: - stompy sounds and destroy sounds would really make it more EVIL - some kind of choice, for example need to destroy fast enough otherwise die etc

He has a beer hat, so yeah, clear win

The Clearing by masterkrepta 2017-05-04T18:44:13Z

Its a start, but it definitely needs some love. I suggest to focus on improving some basics. These are my main suggestions:

- The camera movement is really not ok this way, half of the time you cant even see your character and the turn around movement makes it hard to walk. Try to first get the basic movement to be smooth before continuing - Secondly: Focus on making it FUN! Having to walk home everytime with a broken camera to see monkeys and wait for them to go is not particularly fun. Try starting from an existing game concept and work from there.

I wish you the best of luck in your next endeavour

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-02T07:25:22Z

Simple yet fun, played it twice!

Lalao by ysty 2017-05-14T16:11:34Z

A story game! Great story! Good that you mentioned there to be a single ending otherwise i wouldve been thoroughly annoyed at clicking the fragments :)

The game is good, it has immersion, nice story, bit of interactivity. Albeit very sort i found it worth my time.

I only missed a bit of background music, that wouldve finished it for me.

Great entry!

NekomimiAtsume by parkdraws 2017-05-01T15:07:14Z

Its pretty!

Interstellar Botanist by saiodin 2017-05-02T21:59:53Z

This entry is great, i had a lot of fun playing! I only wish i knew better how the differences in plants worked.

Ascension by drkr 2017-05-14T11:23:06Z

Overall i liked this, i played about 50 secs which i feel is a bit short, but it felt and played like a game

- Graphics: Great, looks and feels polished and immersive, right amount of detail for this kind of game - Gameplay: Very basic shooter, definitly annoying hitbox problem. The level design was ok i think, but the levels were a bit simple. Since you had the text system made i was hoping for some more story because this sounded like an easy win? - Audio: Ok but minimal, the shooting sound wouldve gotten very annoying in minute 2

The sky island is SOOOO nice but sadly nothing to do there :( Overall a good entry but some missed opportunities.

A small World à la No Man's sky by lavwa 2017-05-03T08:40:49Z

Very nice! Alot of smart small choices make a full game :) Would rather fund this in early access than no man's sky.

drone by atmospherium 2017-05-14T10:48:42Z

minute 1: Super psyched about seeing the modal scales in a procedural audio game minute 2: Trying to decide which pattern I like best minute 4: Attempting to predict how each scale will sound before clicking it minute 5: Wondering how you are displaying the scales on screen minute 6: Discovered you can click the notes, randomly bashing the notes everywhere

I think you are definitely on to something here, its very captivating as is. Its probably not really a "game" but it definitly is a Toy, and toys are the things use use to make games!

Great! you got some 5ves from me :)

Binary Glitch by JOrbits 2017-05-14T14:26:09Z

Great concept! I played it several times, it felt really good and challenging. I love how so much is achieved with so little in this game. The destruction of the terrain is really nifty, and the multicolored enemies make it a real challeng.

Combine that with the music and you got yourself some dude grooving behind his pc shooting enemies and dodging like hell!

Small World Fighters by noddingTortoise 2017-05-14T16:06:14Z

A bit boring too play alone. Simple mechanic, nice low resolution pixel art but a bit simple overall. Could use some more gameplay.

Keep it up!

slovenly shopper by jelch 2017-05-02T07:35:27Z

Cool idea and hilarious interpretation of the theme

RoboLand by slovakyan 2017-05-14T15:01:37Z

Solid idea. The water is very pretty. Whilst playing i did find the graphics somewhat unfinished, 3 levels was not really alot and they were trivial. I missed a bit of audio etc.

I also checked out your post jam entry in which you address alot of these problems, I wish i couldve rated that.

Send me an email when you have progressed on it because i would like to play it when it is in a further stage!

Spike Spire by Acuity 2017-05-14T10:16:17Z

Its a very simple game, but its playable. I very much like the jumping around the edges puzzle which was a new idea to me.

The game is REAAAAAALLLY hard. I am a reasonable patient person, but i already predicted i would ragequit this game after a minute.

My suggesting is to think about making it fun for your player instead of making it challenging. Add a very basic checkpoint mechanism. Make sure you player want to Keep playing and play it to the end!

Good luck!

Exit.. space left by HomineLudens 2017-05-01T16:56:56Z

I like the atmosphere and fill of the theme! Collecting gems feels a bit frustrating but still playable.

Globey's Revenge by gamesplusjames 2017-05-03T07:44:45Z

Very pretty, very polished and very fun. Feels like a finished game and i like it!

Say Something by Houcine Chelbi 2017-05-14T16:02:54Z

I like the mini world you created and the mood it induces. The character look amazing.

The enemies are a bit basic and killing them is hard, unclear whether you killed them and not really satisfing. Am i missing something or are enemies often unreachable?

Good mood, theme and graphics, gameplay could use some work. Overall good job!

Mind The Gap (First Ludum Dare) by Izunah 2017-05-01T16:52:40Z

Unique mechanic!

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-01T15:11:17Z

I like the black and white artstyle, good work!

Look up by Vodzik 2017-05-14T14:20:30Z

Its a bit simple, hard to see the asteroids coming. I pressed down key for 3 mins and then stopped the game. My suggestion would be to think about the challenge you want the player to be solving and then build all sorts of feedback mechanisms in the game to help the player. EG a drop indcator on the floor to dodge, a 3 sec speedup button, etc

Planet Taxi by Marin0104 2017-05-14T15:59:49Z

Very pretty game, cool concept of making the taxi driver game. I liked the planned with all the locations too discover. The driving i found a bit tooo hard, especially because turing around is so slow and you dont know what direction to go. The camera induces dizziness, we have the exact same problem in our game :)

Overall i liked it! Good entry!

Lift Off! by AlextheDev 2017-05-14T14:16:43Z

What was good: I like the concept, its a basic rpg concept but it can work if executed correctly. The menus were insanely pretty. I like the crafting screen where you could upgrade parts, this was very well done.

Could merit improvement: Allthough cool in concept, if you would watch someone play your game they are doing 2 things 90% of the time: 1: holding the e key and waiting, while watching a very non polish animation / character 2: Walking the planet, with a very shaky and glitchy camera My suggestion is to thing on what your player will actually be doing and ensure that is fun to do. This is often only 10% extra effort (like a sound, or maybe just walk around the planet and mine randomly spaning orbs which are resources). This gives the player something to do instead of just holding a key and watching.

I hope this is usefull, Keep up the good work!

Set Sails by Erik Brunnstrom 2017-05-04T18:32:16Z

The graphics in this entry are amazing. Nice post effects, very nice models and colors. The ambient sets the mood in such a way that this is probably the most relaxing game on this site :)

The gold! GOOOOOLD!!!!! I will steal this for my next entry.

Sadly i did not fully grasp the way the mechanics worked. The boats move people around? when do they pay and howmuch? Not being able to remove things is also fairly annoying, since I could not anticipate what i was supposed to do and which harbours were going to be added. This greatly reduced the amount of choices i can make as a player, which is one of the key things in management games.

I like the 3d-ui style, but i was a bit annoyed by how the camera zoomed in and out, maybe just a sidebar with 3 buttons and tooltips wouldve been better.

That said, i did have a lot of fun watching the bots move around :)

Ascension: A God's Test by MatHype 2017-05-14T14:50:29Z

This game looks good and i like the idea behind it. A good goodgame can go a long way. I had some fun figuring out the elements and the resource generation. The quests are a nice touch it helps to explorer the game. I did have alot of difficulty staying in the game because it was so hard to see what was going on.

I dont understand why after each turn the game is replaced with a black screen. This makes it insanely hard to see what resources change. I think just removing this screen will make the game ALOT more enganging.

The lava was very annoying and i did not understand how to counteract it.

I think this game is about a day away from being something very awesome, but it needs some extra love. Good job!

The Wonky Wizard by MHGameWork 2017-05-12T19:22:05Z

@max-amaden Thanks! you have to kill the dummy enemies first, then you can move!

The Blocklings by michaelb 2017-05-07T15:36:58Z

I like the mood in this game, the music and the story introduction. It immediately gives a certain depth to the game I can appreciate.

I like the idea of the hand drawn graphics, but i feel it collides a bit with the block based look and was somewhat hard to read. I would suggest picking one artstyle and a bit less colors.

Force of Nature by spelos 2017-05-14T16:26:19Z

Very cool entry. I dont know where you got your ideas but they are surely innovative. The artstyle is very pretty, the animations are great!

I like the mood this game sets by having the survivors on the island. You as the force of nature are somewhat ineffective yet influencing the game.

It did feel somewhat lacking in the gameplay department, as a player you have to figure out what each buttons does, but from there on its just mashing them and waiting for cooldowns. A bit more choice/challenge and input feedback would help alot.

Nonetheless, Great entry!

Its a small world by SuperMsp10 2017-05-02T07:32:33Z

I like the idea, but i had some trouble knowing where to go.

Polar Conflict by Jaenis 2017-05-14T10:59:19Z

This is cool. Its very simple, but also very polished. The gameplay mechanics are perfectly balanced, i had fun flying around and skidding across the planet shooting this.

I did feel a bit dizzy after a while, which is funny because we have the same problem in our game with the planet :)
