OMG this game looks so good :D

houcine-chelbi 2017-04-30 12:00

Thanks :)

wtoa 2017-05-01 12:35

This game looks great! I also enjoyed the audio used here :)

houcine-chelbi 2017-05-01 12:46

@wtoa Thanks, Glad you like it :D

vivoubos 2017-05-01 17:45

Nice game, the concept is good, but it's really hard to save that tree ^^ There are too many objects and it's hard to hit them. My record is 9! Well done, and the music is good :) What do you use?

houcine-chelbi 2017-05-01 19:33

@vivoubos Thanks for the feedback :) I'm using Blender for modeling and Godot for creating the game.

goodbyesquare 2017-05-02 04:45

Firstly the art style is really cool! Once in the game the instructions are a little vague, though I put it together after a little bit that I'm meant to defend the tree from the floating enemies haha. The music is simple but very atmospheric though I wish there were some sound effects : (. Overall it was pretty damn challenging (hard to hit those floating enemies!) and pretty fun, good job :)

bionicalbarbiedoll 2017-05-03 01:50

I really like the art style, the way the character is literally just a bunch of crystals that held together by magic, I tried something similar not long ago, wasn't as successful, and his animations are also pretty tight.

The song really fits the overall ambient and it makes for an awesome atmosphere.

Great job dude!

simple-blue 2017-05-03 04:24

Fun game. It was cute being able to jump around the world. I was not expecting the health bar to be displayed using color instead of the bar shrinking. I did fairly well against the shards, but they kept coming. Nice job keep up the good work!

huynhem 2017-05-03 05:42

I like the game! It looks really well done. I experienced a few technical glitches though. I didn't see any of the HUD like health or counters of enemies I've killed. Overall, I thought the game was really well done for for a Jam and I like to imagine where it could go given more development time!

adroitconceptions 2017-05-05 00:23

linux build?

doppelgunner 2017-05-05 02:55

A nice game for 3 days but it feels unpolished. Improve your controls add camera, sound, screen effects to make the game more responsive and immersive.

morrilet 2017-05-05 20:20

I'm in the same boat as @doppelgunner on this one. This game could really use some effects. The concept was cool and the art was really good, but the I couldn't get past my issues with the camera. It's *really* close to the player, and I can't see where I'm going because of it. There are also a **lot** of enemies. Possibly too many to reasonably be expected to kill. Anyway, the concept was cool and the art/music were really nice. Good job.

adroitconceptions 2017-05-05 21:22

Thanks for the Linux build, I appreciate it!

Feed back -> I really liked the main character's model. Most of the animations worked well.

Would have been nice to have the tree more centered on the island so you could walk around it easier. some sound effects on on hit (dark orb on tree or sword on dark orb) would have rounded out the audio nicely. The attack animations were slow and paused a long time at the end of the attacks. I had a really hard time actually hitting the dark orbs with my sword. not sure if it was a hit box issue, perspective issue, or just the speed of the animations.

I would say, this could become a very playable and enjoyable game with some work.

it would be nice if the light of the tree slowly faded to black as it got hurt.

I would move the camera focal point to the top of the character's head (or there abouts), it would improve the framing and allow seeing around the character better.

nuebomundo 2017-05-06 02:14

I like how the character swings the sword, and the style of the character’s 3D model. I would have liked to have more things to attack. The purple diamonds weren’t fun to dispose of, due to the need of jumping constantly and moving the camera around just to hit them. It’s just too complicated of a method/routine for a basic enemy, and the bottomless surroundings didn’t help. But with some well thought level design, this can be a lot of fun! (It’s not the depth or the number of options, but what you do with them)

casualmaverick 2017-05-07 12:54

Beautiful looking and fun to play, but as others said I really had some issues with the enemies. I felt like there weren't necessarily too many but perhaps that they moved a bit too fast :)

If I may ask, how did you enjoy working with Godot 3D? I haven't used the engine since it was only 2D and I'm thinking about giving it another try.

bemmu 2017-05-07 12:56

I like the character model and the music. Everything worked smoothly, including the camera. I like the atmosphere.

When first jumping, I fell because I was surprised that he has no momentum at all. It also took me many deaths before I realized I can double-jump. I felt it was hard to hit the black things, especially as there was no sound effect to indicate whether I had hit it.

nk-x-x 2017-05-07 13:45

It's pretty impressive to see such an ambitious idea attempted for a solo jam game! The enemies I felt moved too fast, and some kind of lock on mechanic would definitely have helped make the game more playable. It would've been nice for the game to start off easier and have the difficulty ramp up over time, too. Still, the free camera and movement felt pretty solid for the time allowed!

grahhhhhhhhh 2017-05-07 13:49

I really enjoyed the character model, would've liked to see more polish on all of it. The difficulty was punishingly hard, but the audio and visuals were nice.

toonteamj 2017-05-07 21:46

The mechanics are well made, although the attack is too laggy for fighting swarms of enemies. The music sets the tone quite nicely.

houcine-chelbi 2017-05-08 00:12

Thank you every one for your feed back, It's something that i greatly appreciate!

@casualmaverick Godot is now much more improved than how it was before, there is almost no difference between working with it's 2D or 3D and it's feautures reduces alot of work in both dimensions, especially because it is an editor based engine.

I really like it and i think that it worth a try!

mhgamework 2017-05-14 16:02

I like the mini world you created and the mood it induces. The character look amazing.

The enemies are a bit basic and killing them is hard, unclear whether you killed them and not really satisfing. Am i missing something or are enemies often unreachable?

Good mood, theme and graphics, gameplay could use some work. Overall good job!

asturk 2017-05-14 16:20

Found the music in this game really beaultful and get very well with the concept of the game! The idea and mechanic is also really good, i just think the balancing in this game is still kinda hard and unpredictable, sometimes is just more easy stick to the tree and not use the platforms to chase these shards at all. But for the rest, its a really good and fun game, keep it up because it has potencial to become a very good actiopn / tower defense hybrid game in the future, great job!

Also, test my compo entry here too, need some more few ratings too now! thanks ;D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/anthills-multitask

aaranos 2017-05-14 16:44

I say this to all itch.io pages, recommend turning off donations. Also, please make it more obvious which is the LD entry so people don't rate based off a post-ludumdare version.

I found it difficult to actually defend the tree with it being attacked from all sides in such large numbers. Some delay in their spawn or speed might have made it easier, or a ranged weapon. I liked the art style and the music was nice in the background. As Tom Peter isn't listed under members of the team I can't really rate audio if it is just someone else's music.

mrchippy 2017-05-14 17:58

I really like the art and the animations were good. Everything was very nice looking. The enemies were a bit overwhelming. It would have been nice to have some sound other than the music and an indication of whether or not you hit an enemy. The tree health bar was interesting... The movement did feel very solid though.

mateus-trigueiro 2017-05-18 14:50

The concept is really interesting and the art looks cool, but the enemies are really small, so it's hard to defend such a big target from them. The only telltale sign that they are enemies is their color in contrast to the player's, because they are just a bunch of dark crystals. Although the controls are listed on your page, it's sometimes good to make them explicit in-game in some way (this is a mistake I've made as well).

I also think that the player's capacity of covering a larger area is somewhat compromised, which makes the enemies even more overwhelming since they are numerous and spawn from different directions. Maybe multi-jumps instead of double-jumping? Making the player slightly faster could also work. The movement and animation itself did have a solid feel though.

Keep at it and good luck with feedbacks!
