Love the concept, trying to just keep little Henry on screen can be a challenge! This is really well made and fun game!

breno-m 2017-05-01 16:43

The music and simple graphics are perfect for mobile. Good use of the theme. Level of difficulty is balanced. The menu seemed a bit unresponsive, though (no button animation nor music).

izunah 2017-05-01 18:55

This would definitely be a good game for a mobile device. I unfortunately don't have a working android device to test your build out on there however. The game takes a bit of getting used to, and its important to learn how to properly place the wells to affect your speed. Once you get used to it however, it does feel very rewarding. I also enjoyed the art style, simplistic yet sharp.

jorbits 2017-05-01 19:55

I didn't really get the movement, I just startet spamming where I want to go and it worked. The first time I collected a speed boost it startled me really hard, I didn't expect such a loud noise ^^. I like the simple and clean look of the game.

You were trying to play my game. I don't have a mac so idk, but someone said you have to make a file an executable.

ropedog 2017-05-02 00:41

Nicely done! This game is all about trying to contain your momentum, and attempting to move slightly without slamming into other objects. It actually gets pretty tough to maintain control! I wasn't entirely sure what the different pickups did, but once I picked up a blue one I couldn't be killed by anything (except for the wall). Cool idea, and perfect for this jam!

davidthelazar 2017-05-02 00:47

Nice simple game. A couple times I was confused about what was going on, but once I got the hang of it it was a neat little arcade game. Nice job. I agree with @breno-m and @izunah, this would be perfect on mobile

laylow 2017-05-02 00:49

Love the simple design, intuitive controls, and music. Great game

tanay 2017-05-02 05:49

I like how the core game mechanics are different than normal. The graphics are polished well too. Just a small thing which I observed: the spikes only rotate anti-clockwise, maybe you could make them rotate randomly?

Overall, this is a well polished, complete game. Very enjoyable, I've rated it.

cosmic-adventure-squad 2017-05-02 06:05

Nicely polished, I enjoyed the music. Gameplay was a little difficult; took a couple tries before I got the hang of the pull of the gravity wells. I wish hitting the walls didn't result in a game over though, or there were spikes on the wall to indicate that. But that's just a small nitpick! Good work.

wheerd 2017-05-02 07:03

The mechanics of this game are very cool, but they are difficult to grasp. I find it hard to correctly predict the trajectory. Otherwise, the game is very solid and polished. The music is good and the graphics do their job. This is actually the first mobile title that I've encountered so far. I can imagine that working very well, but I tested it only on PC. I would definitely play it on my phone though, if you publish it on the android market

realitycheck 2017-05-02 10:23

Great idea and a well made game. It was difficult, and addictive (may have to get this for my phone). Music was great, and set the mood well. The simplistic graphics worked as well.

Does have the ability to make one rage... which I like about games

khorm 2017-05-02 18:29

Would have like to test this out on a phone, but the game felt very clean and finished. Enjoyed the music and the difficulty scaling looked really spot on.

flaterectomy 2017-05-02 20:42

A nifty concept, but I am not good enough at it to last very long. The graphics are simple in a good and polished way, and the music and sound ties together with it quite well. It feels like something you could easily expand into a full game.

candlesan 2017-05-06 21:45

I liked the basic concept. I could also imagine playing this on a phone and how the touch interface really lends itself well to that environment. I found the movement to actually be a bit counter-intuitive with "gravity wells" because the farther I tapped the stronger the gravitational force whereas I would expect the gravitational force to actually be weaker when I tap far away form myself. I really liked the effect and visuals when I touched a goal object. Nice little color change and sound effect with that.

miggyg 2017-05-07 01:45

Very cool concept! The game felt very polished and I feel was just the right amount of difficulty to keep me hitting the retry button. Possible with a few more power ups (a shield maybe?) and a collectible coins, this could be a very successful game! Great work!

potatolain 2017-05-07 01:51

Pretty fun little game. No android device so I had to play with a mouse - I feel like it has to be a lot more fun with touch.

fiery-squirrel 2017-05-07 02:27

Very nice mechanics and controls, I think that this game with some polish would make a great mobile game. I have some comments about what I think could be improved. Add more feedback, when colliding or collecting an item, particles, colors, movement, etc, let the player know very clearly that he is doing bad or good. I have a question, are the spikes supposed to harm you? I collided many times against them and besides the physical reaction, nothing else happened. I think that if the are only obstacles, the spiky shape might confuse your players, and if they should harm you, a feedback showing how many hits you have would be nice. The whole mood of the game and sounds are very nice too, good job!

peachtreeoath 2017-05-07 05:41

Interesting use of gravity mechanics, I haven't seen it done in a dodging game like that before. The game ramps up quite fast I must say, so it takes several tries before players get to see more of the mechanics. Your art style is clean and polished and the custom made tutorial you put on this LD page is a nice touch I rarely see in other games.

gamechoy 2017-05-07 14:44

A very polished and simple idea. It takes a while to get used to, especially on pc, but after that it's a great little app. My only qualm is that the goal of the game is to avoid the particles, but whenever you hit them it doesn't seem that have any consequences. Maybe it's a glitch or it's intentional, but there should be more of a reason not to hit them. Other than that the music was nice and it had a very polished feel to it, nice work!

clegamecoop 2017-05-07 16:15

@candlesan, it took me a little bit to confirm, but I think you're correct. The intention was for a traditional gravity affect which means the further away, the less of a pull. It's a little more than that, though, because you're in constant motion, so as soon as you place the well, it's affect is moving away from you where as when you place it in front of you, it's getting closer and closer. Regardless, nice catch!

@MiggyG, thanks! we want to try to keep it as accurate as possible to inform as well as entertain, but I'm sure WHEN we build out the full version, we'll have to come up with helpers of some kind!

@gamechoy & @fiery-squirrel, it could definitely be more visible, but every collision has an effect: your speed. As indicated in the tutorial screenshots (didn't get in the actual game) on the LD page, your goal is to reach the speed of light. Every collision slows you down a corresponding amount. So, spikes should indeed be avoided as they do harm you. We were trying to stay consistent with particle physics. So, since the goal is the speed of light, your health is actually your speed! Hope this clarifies a lil bit for you! Thx!

@peachtreeoath, thanks so much! Yeah, I agree, it can definitely use some balancing.

Thanks to everyone! We had a great time making this and it seems like we should definitely keep going! =)

aeveis 2017-05-07 21:08

Cool game! I liked the art and the music fit really well. Overall some notes to the gameplay: - It feels a bit weird to me that you died if you go offscreen but not if you hit the spikes. It makes sense in your design that your speed is your health, but then dying offscreen feels too harsh. Maybe if you bounced off and lost speed, or if the camera just followed the player x-wise? - The orbital lines on your ld page look pretty helpful for navigating, it would be super cool if you could get something like that in the game, since controlling something with acceleration can be pretty hard. - The color change (I guess phase change) was really cool, but at first I thought I had to collect the newer blue spikes since they're a similar color to the first collectible. - I thought collecting the green circle would also have a phase change but the game just went faster. Perhaps if there was something there like speed lines or a speed+ notification to know that I'm going faster (and same when I'm slowing down) - Maybe just a speed bar or something so player knows how fast they need to go to the next phase change, perhaps? - To me it looks like the spikes are random, which can make the controls pretty hard as the player doesn't know what to expect. Maybe random set patterns would be better? Mostly a design choice.

Good job! Best of luck if you continue to work on it!

jin47 2017-05-08 09:45

Nice game. I enjoyed you took the time to build a android apk ! I am not sure the gravity is strong enough because I often ended spamming a point on the screen and finished game over vfor being too impatient. However the concept is really nice and I enjoyed it !Good job!

nekoballs 2017-05-08 14:57

Nice game! It was very hard at first until i got used to the controls. Loved the music track!

fatpenguin 2017-05-08 17:40

Really nice game. Unfortunately, I could only play it on desktop - I think this must be quite fine to play on a mobile device :) good job

shamps 2017-05-08 20:22

Great gameplay concept, objective is very clear and intuitive. I played on desktop, so controlling the particle was quite challenging!

rick 2017-05-09 01:13

I'm afraid I really didn't get the mechanics of the game. It's either a balancing thing or me just not getting how gravity works

A little more visual feedback on the particles would be cool and the sounds are sometimes a little loud compared to the music. Nothing a little polish can fix though. Because of me not really getting the hang of it, I didn't enjoy it as much, sorry.

sgstair 2017-05-10 11:41

Simple, but nice looking game, sound design makes for a really nice atmosphere. I'll echo what others have said, the control system took me a while to figure out, but once I did it wasn't too hard to proceed normally. I would love to see the gameplay expanded on, it already feels pretty good to play but gets boring pretty quickly.

I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139973818 - Time 2:19:45

clegamecoop 2017-05-10 21:41

@Rick & @sgstair, apologies. It looks like the header bar (seen in the screenshots above) is getting cut off on the HTML version. That indicates your current speed as well as your current level, which MAY have helped clarify the goals of the game. Also, the screenshots above are the tutorial which didn't get into the JAM version of the game, but help spell out the gameplay a little better than our pun-filled description.

@sgstair, thanks so much for streaming! Quite cool to see you TRY to figure it out live. =) To clarify, the goal is to reach the speed of light (i.e. 0.999C), the small pellets speed you up, hitting enemies slows you down. Go fast enough, get launched into the next "level" of different enemies, etc.

sgstair 2017-05-11 00:39

@clegamecoop, yeah I got the sense that I had missed the overall goal after reading more of the comments here, an indicator may have helped me work it out, I guessed it was no harm to run into things occasionally and the survival time was the ultimate metric. My hope with the stream was that seeing my experience would be useful feedback in its own way, so I'm glad you liked it.

jakob-willforss 2017-05-13 08:03

Top-tier soundscape and general mood! Relaxing and enjoyable. Got a bit repetitive after a while, and was a bit unsure what the kill condition was (ending up outside screen? any downside with colliding with obstacles?). I really think you have something nice going here through, well suited for mobile. Good luck with its future developments!

boorik 2017-05-16 23:44

Really great game. It will make a solid mobile game. Only one complaint is losing by clicking out of screen. But anyway great game!!

nightshadow0 2017-05-17 20:59

This is an interesting concept. The controls are decidedly not intuitive (at least to me), but i made it through for quite a while. It could be a little more challenging, i appreciate that it's not too hard due to the nature of the controls, but i got myself stuck in a loop where i caught a particle then got hit just enough to slow down to where i was before i caught another particle, and that lasted long enough for me to get bored and close the game. Solid entry, nice work!
