LD38 — A Small World

Quantum by rwoeltjes 2017-05-04T20:29:16Z

This is such a great idea! You only see you enemies when you look at them - I've never seen this done before and it works well. Your chosen theme of quantum really fits the jam theme. I feel like this gameplay mechanic would lend itself well to a horror survival game... The camera view is great, and the controls handle very well. The gameplay is a little repetitive, especially seeing as I found a way to put my self in a corner and enemies could only come at me from a certain angle (see pic) making it very easy to survive. Cheeky of me, I know! Quantum.png

Uncharted Dreams - Fate of the Miniatures by Franklins Ghost 2017-05-04T20:09:00Z

Like others have said above already - really nice atmosphere thanks to the art and animation. Wish there was a bit more interactivity and/or a puzzle or two to solve!

Hi Pluto! by nekoballs 2017-05-08T20:32:56Z

I didn't understand at first what I was supposed to do - I intuitively thought I was meant to avoid the asteroids (I've watched too many natural disaster movies, clearly). But once I understood the asteroids were there to help me, I really enjoyed this game! It involves just enough skill to be able to keep bouncing without it becoming to difficult, and the procedurally generated asteroids keep it from becoming repetitive. I really like the idea of other planets coming into view as you progress - this keeps it from becoming dull. The game could do with some engaging SFX and maybe some music (it's too quiet at the mo). I love the wackiness of the idea too - not seen anything like this before :)

BAD RNG by internetpaulicy 2017-05-14T21:19:24Z

The graphics on this are cool - retro style! I like the idea of playing it within an arcade machine (fits the tone) but the angle of the screen made me feel a bit disconnected from the action. Some power-ups would be awesome. I wasn't sure how to progress - something to do with the worm-holes maybe..? Controlled really well. The mushrooms made the centipede's movements unpredictable and made the gameplay challenging without being difficult.

World Battles by Thinkofname 2017-05-11T19:29:18Z

I like the idea of "setting up" guns before a battle, although it's very hard to plan ahead when the enemies are so swift and mobile! A reduction in difficulty at the beginning would be so helpful, just so I can get used to the controls. The tutorial faded away too quickly so I couldn't remember all the buttons.

Death's Knocking by This_Gooch 2017-05-04T20:16:11Z

That horror laugh when you die is priceless, lol! Nice, panicky (as @piscythe said, above) atmosphere. It's quite hard to do anything once death appears in your vision - maybe this can be tweaked a bit to give the player more of a chance? At the moment it feels that you simply need luck to survive.

Conquery - Conquer The World! by Tanay 2017-05-08T20:46:53Z

This game is addictive! The balance of difficulty is just right (I haven't completed it yet, but I want to play more!). The captured planets didn't fire sometimes, even when an enemy was in range (sometimes it looked as if a bullet was being fired, but the bullet wasn't reaching the enemy..?). I'd love to see keyboard controls too, mouse doesn't feel comfortable enough. I know you don't want to be rated on music, but you chose the track well. The music really adds to the atmosphere despite the simple aesthetics.

Beware The Idiots by Gris 2017-05-01T09:51:35Z

Your title screen is hilarious - loved it! In fact the humour/tone of the game is great. I liked the game itself - nice and intuitive point and click mechanic to do everything. And having the retry and back buttons on the egg is nice design. Even though the barriers are a great idea, I didn’t find them that useful - the sperm are too clever! Also, what are the barriers in relation to this ‘small world’ - maybe a specific type of contraception..?

The New Kid by Saurabh 2017-05-01T11:12:40Z

Great idea for a game! Have you read Dataclysm by Christian Rudder? The layout of your game reminds me of a cool diagram from that book :) The setup (making friends at first few weeks of school) fits the game very well, and I like the simple clean UI. The 'friends' could be given more personality, but I understand this would take time. I like the gameplay, but it felt like I was simply gambling at times - I simply clicked on the dot with the highest percentage most of the time, as this felt like the most logical way forward. If there was more strategy to the game, I would find it a lot more engaging. I also noticed a bug where there were two separate social groups in one level (though this may be intentional, I'm not sure - see image)Social game.png

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-04T20:44:02Z

Presentation is amazing, gameplay is very different to anything I've played before. Music really cool The controls are a little fidgety - it's hard to sometimes click on the microbe I want to click on. And navigating around the space felt a bit difficult. I'm really impressed by the fact that it is a 'complete' game experience (ie it has music, title screen, help etc) - a great accomplishment considering it was made during a jam!

Tiny Hadron Collider by clegamecoop 2017-05-08T20:22:13Z

Great gameplay concept, objective is very clear and intuitive. I played on desktop, so controlling the particle was quite challenging!

Agoraphobia by Kodiqi 2017-05-01T10:10:58Z

The best thing about this game is that after one play through, I immediately knew exactly what I had to do without a tutorial. This is because the game had really clear, simple design :) The tone is very fitting, a really interesting way to view agorophobia. It's oppressive, without putting me off. It would be great to have some way to keep track of progress (high score? Time? Nicer house?). The gameplay was a bit repetitive, so if you add some levelling up or new gameplay elements as the game progresses, I'd love to play the next iteration :)
