Great Art, a short tutorial would be a good addition

drestuff 2017-05-01 08:42

I did include a little how-to pause screen if you press the question mark icon in-game but perhaps you meant in the description? If so, that was a dumb of me not to include, so the description is updated with some more information as well. Thanks Dima!

yves 2017-05-01 10:17

Man your graphics really rock! <3 Totaly love that style :) I like that you limited the vision of the world so you have to constantly look arround check out where your microbes want to start the next fight.

wtoa 2017-05-01 11:08

Love your art direction, it really fits in well with the music that you are using! The overall level of polish was also very impressive for a game completed in about 72 hours!

I think the pathing of the microbes can be improved, I had instances where the microbes were just standing still but the best strategy I found was to separate both of them from one another by sectioning the map into pink and grays

drestuff 2017-05-01 11:22

@yves Thank you! I quite liked the limited vision as well. I hope it felt at least a little bit like you were looking down a microscope :microscope:

@wtoa Thanks! Ah yeah, it's not much of a game but I did try to make it as complete of an experience as possible at the very least. You're right, in hindsight I should probably have increased the line-of-sight range for the little microbes a bit more and been more creative with the pathing AI. I pretty much just slapped in a flocking system and called it a day

schizoid2k 2017-05-01 17:04

Pretty cool concept... looks easier than it really is. Enjoyable!

geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01 17:44

Great concept, great controls. Really intuitive too. Excellent game.

tbureck 2017-05-01 18:00

Lovely game! The gameplay is somewhat easy once you figure out the best strategy (see wtoa's comment), but the graphics and music are playing together very well. Overall probably one of the best games I've played so far in this LD.

Ironically, in our game you need to bring microbes together. It's a small, crazy world!

justinm 2017-05-01 20:15

Extremely well put together game with cohesive design and concept.

tommyflower 2017-05-01 20:23

Cool concept. Easy controls. I loved zooming the microscope and the colour scheme is really nice. Good job!

jorgegamedev 2017-05-01 20:42

Whow! This entry really has a lot of polish to it! I loved the overall small details of even being able to move the cells/microbes around on the tittle screen. I played two rounds of the game and was able to get a perfect colony on the second run, doing the exact same strategy that @wtoa mentioned above, and sectioning the map into two separate corners. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Overall it's really a great and solid entry, but the one thing I didn't understand in terms of gameplay was the purpose of feeding healthy bacteria to the microbes. Did it make them distracted for a moment or was it for some other purpose? I wasn't really able to find what exactly they did, especially after using the separation strategy.

I also really like the music and how it fits with the game, as well as the simple graphics of it. Everything is simple in nature, yet effective. Congrats!

flatgub 2017-05-01 20:52

This game was adorable and really well put together! It took a few tries to get perfect symbiosis but I enjoyed the playtime! Well done!

docgeraud 2017-05-01 21:13

This is so cute and polished, well done! I managed to have a near perfect colony on second run. It's the best game I've played so far. :]

lefaygames 2017-05-02 11:08

Really cute and polished game! But I also didn't really understand why I should feed the microbes. Do they gain health back after having met but not died during an encounter with the other color? Anyway, I really like the feel of the game!

drestuff 2017-05-02 11:33

I really appreciate the kind words, everyone! I'm especially happy to hear that it feels polished since that was one of the aspects that consumed most amount of time when I made this game.

Hehe yep, they do gain health when you feed them. I wanted to be a bit vague with this mechanic instead of having some sort of health bar, mostly for aesthetic reasons but I see now that it might have been a mistake on my part! :flushed:

nickzangus 2017-05-02 11:38

Great art and mood. It may be interesting to add more than two types of bacteria, each one with specific characteristics/behaviours (different dimension, speed, weakness...) to enrich the gameplay.

drestuff 2017-05-02 11:43

@nickzangus Thanks. Heh, there's actually disabled code in this game where I had up to 4 different types of bacteria. Your suggestion of different types of characteristics sounds very cool!

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2017-05-02 11:47

Pretty and fun ! rated

arcticmattekar 2017-05-02 12:40

Adorable art and interesting game play. I think this would make a good mobile game with touch controls.

failedstarfish 2017-05-02 19:12

Really liked the art and style. A very polished entry :)

marccio-silva 2017-05-02 19:35

Great game mechanic, very original approach to the 'small world' theme. Loved the art in general, the music was very fitting, and the UI was really polished (I love that). Awesome entry! Good job

merrak 2017-05-03 03:50

Great artwork! I agree with the above comment that this would make a good mobile game. It'd be easier to play with touch controls than with a mouse.

The microscope effect was a pretty creative take on 'small world'.

zarkonnen 2017-05-03 10:21

Very pretty, and a good take on the topic. I found it very tiring on my hands and basically impossible to keep them separated at all though.

blinry 2017-05-03 11:06

This must be the most stylistic LD game I've ever played. Really enjoyed the symbiosis :) of graphics, sound effects, animation, and juicyness of the interface. Great transitions! Great music! Hell, depth-of-field effects? :O Hats off!

Unfortunately, what I didn't really enjoy was the gameplay itself. Dragging them apart felt like a chore, and not like fun. I think the bacteria are maybe a little too small to click and drag? Or moved too fast?

Anyway, thanks for making it, I'll take it as an inspiration and will definitely show it around!

unidaystudio 2017-05-03 14:34

Simple game, fun to play. Great audio, awesome art. I've nothing to complain.

Good job!

askania-m 2017-05-03 15:38

Cool game! I liked playing it. The controls of the mouse are a little hard, but concept, music and graphics are very good! Thank you for creating it so quickly, great!

drestuff 2017-05-03 16:54

@askania-m Hah yeah, I should probably have spent more time on properly implementing mouse controls for camera movement

gipzo 2017-05-03 19:45

Awesome graphics, pretty simple gameplay, but very adorable :)

namrog84 2017-05-03 21:18

I think I really enjoyed every single thing about this.

diptoman 2017-05-03 21:42

All these tweens are life for my eyes! Everything in here was gorgeous (and I cannot stress enough about the tweens :P ). It is a bit confusing on the gameplay side (that, or it was too easy to the point where I thought I was doing something wrong so nothing was happening hahah). Got x9 x10 on my best try! Good stuff!

kurt-roembke 2017-05-03 22:00

Style is really all encompassing. Sound, music, graphics. All work together really well.

huminaboz 2017-05-04 01:41

Fantastic and cute sound/visual/innovation. Yes, innovation can be cute. Maybe a little zoom option on what you're clicking on when you're zoomed out. It can be hard to switch between zoomed in and out at the speed it moves.

parkdraws 2017-05-04 01:49

Love the microbe emotes, ha ha. ( ´ ▽ ` )

hdteav 2017-05-04 07:31

Love the clean look and minimal aesthetic. Well done

I found a bug by the way. If you drag microbes out of view fast, they disappear.

drestuff 2017-05-04 08:14

@hdteav It's feature.. I promise :lying_face::sweat_drops:

ghostbomb 2017-05-04 11:55

Apparently the best way to have different colored microbes live in harmony is to segregate them to different corners of the map. I'm... not sure how I feel about that.

Jokes aside the art style and general feel of the game super well polished and stylish, with all sorts of cute details. Nice job.

dray 2017-05-04 12:18

Really cool game! I love all the details in animations, music, particles. and the gameplay work really well, maybe i would like it a bit more fast paced with weaker bacteries and a smaller round time. I managed to win on my first try. Cool game thanks :)

drestuff 2017-05-04 12:26

@ghostbomb Well dang, I knew someone was going to make that analogy. Funny story, I started out making this game where you had three different colours and you had to crush one of the colours for the other two to live in harmony and that did not feel right so I changed everything... and here we are and yet we still have to segregate the two different colours. So sad! But hey, at least it's not a game where the player actively kills stuff :sob:

those-30-ninjas 2017-05-04 14:37

Really lovely style, Love the color scheme. Gameplay didn't really hold my interest for long. Good music lots of polish really nice job guys.

shiitman 2017-05-04 14:48

Great game, I totally like the concept and implementation. A little bit to much clicking, it would be nice to have more strategic elements. It would be interesting to see more kinds of bacteria and their interactions in post-jam.

silkworm-sweatshop 2017-05-04 16:30

Simple graphics but the style and amount of polish makes it look and feel really really good. If I have any criticism it would be that after the initial separation period, once you got them in two separate camps there was not much of a challenge left.

shamps 2017-05-04 20:44

Presentation is amazing, gameplay is very different to anything I've played before. Music really cool The controls are a little fidgety - it's hard to sometimes click on the microbe I want to click on. And navigating around the space felt a bit difficult. I'm really impressed by the fact that it is a 'complete' game experience (ie it has music, title screen, help etc) - a great accomplishment considering it was made during a jam!

foya 2017-05-04 22:50

I can't play because that's so slowwww on my computers... :/ However the art and atmosphere look catchy and polished ( I really like the color palette!), and the concept seems interesting. I wish I'll be able to play maybe later!

Keep up the good work!

hectigo 2017-05-07 18:07

Great level of polish for a jam game, but didn't find the gameplay too engaging - moved red microbes to one side and green ones to the other and that was it. Still a fun take on the theme.

blackrose 2017-05-07 19:42

Love your art style! the graphics are so cute ^^ Its a entertaining game and its so fun

nofuel 2017-05-13 20:45

Really cool Idea! great sound and atmosphere with a cute design that fits perfectly! All in all a very good and well published game. Love the 3d effect!

harry-alissavakis 2017-05-19 12:43

Daaayum, this is a really well made and polished game! I really liked the art-style, I'm usually a sucker for this kind of colors! It is somewhat difficult to click on the microbes you want, but other than that, it's a really good concept, the music is very entertaining and fitting and overall this is a fantastic entry! Great job! :D
