LD38 — A Small World

The Village by Gipzo 2017-05-03T20:11:42Z

This was a really pleasant experience! Upgrading buildings and watching travelers pass by the little village felt cool but I really loved being able to just throw a bunch of gold at people! :moneybag::moneybag::moneybag:

A Bloody Small World by blinry 2017-05-03T11:59:23Z

A bloody charming entry with a unique concept! :sparkling_heart: As previously mentioned the somewhat automatic steering really helped with otherwise potential annoyances and that popping sound when delivering oxygen was very satisfying indeed!

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-05-01T17:18:58Z

This was a very clever and fun entry. I definitely enjoyed it and kept on clicking to see what future entailed my little planet.. great job! :new_moon_with_face:

Cowmets by NickZangus 2017-05-02T11:57:09Z

Really cool and more importantly fun idea for a game. I loved being a Space Cowboy chasing down those rare Cowmets! I also like the fact that you have a fully functional gameplay loop, heck even an intro! :cow:

Star Traveller by SecondDimension 2017-05-02T20:48:00Z

Interesting point-and-click game. I thought you handled the puzzles very well as they felt intuitive and self explanatory. I liked the atmosphere of the game and hope that little Star Traveller has a long life ahead of him/her/it!

AS Mall World by Sean S. LeBlanc 2017-05-20T13:48:51Z

A neat Vaporwave-like game with experimental gameplay. The :dollar: money shooting mechanic :dollar: was very rewarding, I ended up spending a lot of money on fashionable wares before I decided to exit the mall. Loving the abscense of violence in this entry :ok_hand:

Orchardstra by CyberStarLight 2017-05-12T11:37:12Z

I had no idea what I was doing when playing this but it felt great! Creative stuff! :hammer:

RETROHACKER 1993 by Flatgub 2017-05-02T07:16:28Z

Loving the concept of this! I think the aesthetic is well handled and feels very nostalgic as well. I really think this game has a lot of potential if you ever plan on expanding on it! :eye: :computer:

Little Lands by Mr_Field 2017-05-12T11:28:17Z

This was a just a really coherent and polished entry overall! You managed to make a complete feeling game for this Ludum Dare and I really enjoyed playing it too. I thought the slight grind felt totally worth it once I got that sweet ending. Really great job! :ok_hand::sparkles:

Flovala by larzan 2017-05-01T11:13:50Z

Ah, such a relaxing atmosphere. This reminds me of the game flOw from Thatgamecompany. Great job! :sparkles:

Party in Buntingville by hectigo 2017-05-05T11:11:21Z

Fun concept! The mechanics were simple and worked well with the narrative and I thought the graphics fit the tone of the game as well. Charming! :speaking_head:

Slice of Life by tweedle 2017-05-04T09:13:08Z

Damn this game is fresh! I really enjoyed the music and I thought the art was hilarious. Fun game, really well made, really cool win/lose states. Overall great job! :pizza:

The Adventure of Malvin by NOFUEL 2017-05-03T20:05:18Z

A fast paced and really cute platformer! I think if there's any critique I would give it is that you should have lerped the camera according to the direction the player object is moving so that it doesn't lag behind, that is to say when player object is moving the camera is always looking slightly ahead of the player object. Other than that I liked it! Oh and that slide was just too cute! :beetle:

Echoes by ghostbomb 2017-05-03T12:41:25Z

Lovely use of minimalism and I really liked the use of echolocation as main gameplay mechanic. I thought you found a good use for it in terms of puzzles in the limited amount of time you had. Just a really solid and enjoyable Ludum Dare entry, great job! :bat:

Annulus by Zarkonnen 2017-05-03T12:18:24Z

I enjoyed the science fiction mood of this game. As others have previously mentioned the camera & controls could have been improved upon but other than that it was still interesting to roam about this circular world. I played the bug fixed build but was still able to reproduce the "hold button to get infinite amounts of food"-bug however there were no babies to hold me down!

Little Infinity by Kevin Barrios 2017-05-03T20:30:06Z

This was an overall lovely experience. The puzzle mechanic was both intuitive and fun and I quite liked the sound design as well! This idea could and should definitely be expanded on.. Great job, guys! :ok_hand: :sparkles:

Food Fight by Scornz 2017-05-03T18:54:45Z

This could have been a pretty boring top-down shooter but I think the addition of having to dodge environment objects at the beginning of each wave was a clever choice. I also really liked seeing a human clear the table at the end of the waves, it felt like it added to the lore of the game which really helps with atmosphere! All in all fun experience but could do with a power-up and maybe even different types of enemies

NekomimiAtsume by parkdraws 2017-05-04T07:33:12Z

You made a really great base for a game here. I think it has potential to be expanded on! It reminds me of all those Kairosoft games and I think this would fit that style of gameplay but perhaps more in the direction of a Tamagotchi or a Neko Atsume (hence the name, I guess? heh). Really cute!

Glass Houses by diptoman 2017-05-04T08:07:33Z

You really did a great job at conveying story and atmosphere in this game. It felt mysterious, scary and even oppressive at times.. and the ending felt freeing and bittersweet! Really cool entry! :sparkles:

The Spoiled Prince by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-05-03T08:38:16Z

Whoa, a actual fun escort mission :astonished: I loved bzz-ing around in this game and that spoiled prince is cute as heck!

NomNom by MaikelOrtega 2017-05-02T07:58:05Z

I think you guys did a good job of creating a cohesive experience for this Ludum Dare. I played this alone but I can definitely imagine that it would be fun to play with a friend. Cute game! :lemon: :grapes:

Noizy by yves 2017-05-01T10:04:05Z

This game has a cohesive art style to it and the base concept is very sound. I also like that you packaged it into a short but complete experience. Great job! :ok_hand:

Snowday by Jon Tiburzi 2017-05-04T13:47:54Z

I like the minimalism of this entry. I also think sound design was really well done, I could really feel the snow beneath my feet. I think as @palemachine said it would have been interesting with a few extra interactions scattered about, or maybe a run button, or an option to lay down in the snow. Other than that I feel the game really hits the intended mood. :snowman:

Colonize by JustinM 2017-05-02T06:55:02Z

I think the concept of this game fit the theme well. I also like that this was a complete experience. I'm not sure the chat does anything in this version but it would have been very cool to receive different types responses from the villagers :speaking_head: :busts_in_silhouette::busts_in_silhouette:

E.(a)T. by BrothersT 2017-05-03T08:58:09Z

Adorable characters and overall fun game! Very cool that you included online leaderboards as well! :satellite:

Stardust - A space adventure by shiitman 2017-05-03T17:17:04Z

I like that you went with hand-drawn graphics for this classic point & click adventure game. I also appreciate the fact that you included a menu with options such as sound/music. I will echo the the thoughts of maybe avoiding mixing assets of different resolutions and also the fact that since this game is all black & white it's important to create contrasts as to where the audience eyes should be drawn to. Other than this I enjoyed my little adventure as a space man as well as the banter with my sassy computer sidekick!

"Comme le monde est petit ! " Smalltalk Supermarket by dray 2017-05-02T15:47:41Z

Really neat take on this year's Ludum Dare theme! I thought the different characters were cute and with the background ambience it really felt like I was browsing around a small supermarket. I think some kid might have messed with the wheels on my cart though!

Microbe Mash by LeFayGames 2017-05-01T19:45:33Z

I like this puzzle mechanic of combining microbes for them to evolve, I think there could be a lot of ways to expand upon this mechanic. It's fun to see that we had such similar ideas yet they both ended up so different!

WRAP by lightblub 2017-05-01T11:02:31Z

A fun game with a rewarding wrapping mechanic. The minimalist art style works well, although it needs some colour adjustments. Music got repetitive and grating very quickly but all in all it was a neat experience!

Shrink by Shamps 2017-05-05T07:06:31Z

Good use of combining Alice in Wonderland and a shrinking mechanic as main driving force. I think the voice-over story telling really helps with context and atmosphere! I also had slight issues with clipping but other than that I enjoyed it! :girl: :mouse:

Retro Rabbit by wtoa 2017-05-01T10:49:12Z

Loving the arcadey feel of this one! I must have totally flipped the game since I got -1950098. My rabbit got so huge he covered the whole planet :rabbit:

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-05-02T13:42:27Z

Fun local multiplayer game with interesting game mechanics! Title and title name is really good too! I played this one solo and still had a good time competing against the AI. The UI and grey energy pellets might need some adjustments to stand out, some people might have a hard time seeing them clearly.

Snail Fighter by Marccio Silva 2017-05-02T20:38:07Z

Really interesting mechanic to have bullets wrap around the screen. Tough as nails, I kept shooting myself in the back. Trust no one, not even yourself! :snail: :gun:

The Space Explorer by UnidayStudio 2017-05-03T15:29:30Z

A very solid Ludum Dare entry! I feel that the cut scenes really helped with the overall experience, they were definitively well worth the effort. Great work!

Planet Bash by killerkun 2017-05-05T10:53:58Z

Good graphics, I love the tilt shift! That's some well executed planet bashing!

Brainstorm 38 by DocGeraud 2017-05-01T17:32:27Z

Unique & lovely concept! I thought the game was well paced but could do with a tiny bit more polish. Still cool though!

Leucos by Harry Alissavakis 2017-05-02T09:45:41Z

Lovely idea and a nice use of time in terms of scope. Really cute characters! I thought the overall gameplay worked well and felt fun. I would have liked the camera to extend a bit to where your aim was in addition to it simply following the player character but it wasn't too much of an issue. Again, super cute.. Great job!

Giant Friend by fixedgerald 2017-05-02T09:09:29Z

Doshin the Giant but instead of helping people he completely and utterly destroy their lives. Oh Doshin, time changed you.. All kidding aside I think this feels like a mix between Doshin the Giant and Katamari Damacy. I think the arcade-y gameplay fits very well into the tone of the game. It could do with some polish though!

Down the Rabbit Hole by those-30-ninjas 2017-05-04T07:44:46Z

Mysterious narrative, hexagonal puzzle gameplay, cool pixel art.. What more is there to ask for?! This Ludum Dare entry felt very complete and polished. Great work! :tophat: :rabbit: :sparkles:

Skylands by huminaboz 2017-05-04T07:19:16Z

Finally I get to play a game with Mark's art and it was super cute! This was a lovely puzzle game and you even had time to make 8 levels. Music was good but the SFX was slightly grating. Really great job overall! :seedling: :sparkles:

AXL-5 by PUARSLIBURF 2017-05-02T16:05:40Z

Nice old school platformer/metroidvania with CGA colours. I enjoyed most parts except for perhaps some previously discussed parts of the last level. I appreciated the variable jump height too. Oh and let's not forget that genius swimming animation, so good! :ocean:

Space Diver by HDTeaV 2017-05-04T08:22:45Z

A simple mechanic but since it relies on gravity there's a lot of depth there which is always fun, sort of the "easy to learn, fun to master" notion. I thought it was really neat that you included a leaderboard as well :ok_hand:

This is the End: Small World by namrog84 2017-05-04T07:53:54Z

Man, I love these types of turn-based builders. I think you did a great job with this one and the sound effects made it super fun to play! Wee Bzz Bzz Wee Maooww Weee Bzz Bzz Prepare for blast-off! :sunglasses:

Batter Bros. by fanatrick 2017-05-04T09:33:40Z

A Lethal League-like game but with cuter art. I thought you did especially great work with the limited amount of time you had what with a fully functional CPU and even different modes of difficulty. I loved the absolute mayhem of having several balls on the playfield! :boom::baseball::baseball::baseball:

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-05T11:40:34Z

This was a really well realised Ludum Dare entry with a lovely message attached to it.. Well done! Hmm, I think I might go see how many CPS I can do in real life! :spoon:

Tiny Battle World by NickW 2017-05-02T08:13:44Z

Hoo boy, this game is fun! Cute pixel art (is that the pico8 palette I see? :eye:). If there's any feedback I could add it is the controls felt a bit sluggish, especially for an online multiplayer game that require precision inputs. The ability to chat with other players would also have been a lovely addition.

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-02T12:23:25Z

Innovative idea and a very unique atmosphere. I loved the sense of feeling like a huge creature when squishing those little bugger workers :construction_worker: I know there was not a whole lot of time for this jam but I would have liked more puzzle elements like the one at end which I thought was pretty neat!

S.A.V.E.🐣 by Noval33t 2017-05-01T15:29:09Z

Cute art with a great message. I like that you went with the WarioWare-style type of play for the game!

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-01T08:42:34Z

I did include a little how-to pause screen if you press the question mark icon in-game but perhaps you meant in the description? If so, that was a dumb of me not to include, so the description is updated with some more information as well. Thanks Dima!

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-01T11:22:51Z

@yves Thank you! I quite liked the limited vision as well. I hope it felt at least a little bit like you were looking down a microscope :microscope:

@wtoa Thanks! Ah yeah, it's not much of a game but I did try to make it as complete of an experience as possible at the very least. You're right, in hindsight I should probably have increased the line-of-sight range for the little microbes a bit more and been more creative with the pathing AI. I pretty much just slapped in a flocking system and called it a day

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-02T11:33:44Z

I really appreciate the kind words, everyone! I'm especially happy to hear that it feels polished since that was one of the aspects that consumed most amount of time when I made this game.

Hehe yep, they do gain health when you feed them. I wanted to be a bit vague with this mechanic instead of having some sort of health bar, mostly for aesthetic reasons but I see now that it might have been a mistake on my part! :flushed:

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-02T11:43:50Z

@nickzangus Thanks. Heh, there's actually disabled code in this game where I had up to 4 different types of bacteria. Your suggestion of different types of characteristics sounds very cool!

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-03T16:54:14Z

@askania-m Hah yeah, I should probably have spent more time on properly implementing mouse controls for camera movement

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-04T08:14:38Z

@hdteav It's feature.. I promise :lying_face::sweat_drops:

Symbios by drestuff 2017-05-04T12:26:16Z

@ghostbomb Well dang, I knew someone was going to make that analogy. Funny story, I started out making this game where you had three different colours and you had to crush one of the colours for the other two to live in harmony and that did not feel right so I changed everything... and here we are and yet we still have to segregate the two different colours. So sad! But hey, at least it's not a game where the player actively kills stuff :sob:

Aether Mine by merrak 2017-05-03T07:07:30Z

I enjoyed the mood of this game and ended up playing it way longer than I had expected. I think you succeeded in making a sort of mini sim city! I would have liked the build menu to always be present instead of having it pop-up and cover most of the game but other that :ok_hand: :sparkles:

Space Caves by adamgryu 2017-05-05T09:33:11Z

Lovely entry. I thought the shipped controlled well and I really like the idea of having to be wary of your surroundings and of your own bullets. I think this is a nice base of something can be expanded on and turned into a full game. :rocket::boom::sparkles:

Crumble Crust by Itzhak W 2017-05-01T09:07:12Z

I think the game & concept is definitely worth further development. Maybe expand on the idea a bit and turn it into a full-on mobile game release?

eiland by rubna 2017-05-01T08:37:49Z

Cute game! I like the trial & error puzzle exploration in this one :island: Although I'm not entirely sure if there's more to it other than the statue firing up that laser and flooding the island. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something!
