I really like the atmosphere. The music fits perfect and the lasershoot feels very powerful. Great game! :)

drestuff 2017-05-01 10:04

This game has a cohesive art style to it and the base concept is very sound. I also like that you packaged it into a short but complete experience. Great job! :ok_hand:

cambryx 2017-05-01 10:08

Really nice game @yvez. I had a lot of fun playing it. The graphics and the music create a strong atmosphere. Good job, especially for a first ludum dare entry.

If you want you can check out our game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/42-mikronikus

It is our second ludum dare entry. Have fun playing it :)

dev-dennis 2017-05-01 10:27

Hey,

Best game I played so far at LD38.

It's really fun and challenging, which is for me important. I was entertained all the way through. Besides that it introduces kinda a new gameplay mechanic with the cube rotating. Really cool! The style and sound design is great as well. Really nicely done. Gratz.

yves 2017-05-01 10:42

Thanks all for the kind words :)

undefinist 2017-05-01 13:27

Great concept! I like that the levels always stayed the same size. The art style is really beautiful, and the music is so, so gooood. Sometimes I can't see where to go very well though! Overall though this is a really splendid entry!

tommyflower 2017-05-02 07:59

Great game! A beautiful surprise. No need for a more complex art when you have such an addictive gameplay, outstanding music and sound fx and useful things like lifes(so few did that) :D One of my favourites so far.

zicboy 2017-05-02 15:13

Great game! I enjoyed it thoroughly. Best game I've played so far for LD38

somethinboutgames 2017-05-02 18:48

This is freaking awesome!! Reminds me of fez' mechanics which is really nice, plus the music, the sound effects, the graphics and the combat are all amazing! Only some kind of health powerup/save stations are missing to turn this into a thoroughly enjoyable full game! Great job

gamepopper 2017-05-02 20:48

The way the level moves is really trippy in a good way. This is a brilliant way to display the world of a platform game. I felt the boss was too easy, since it doesn't move around as much, but this is definitely one of my favourites!

fouralex 2017-05-03 15:32

An interesting concept with amazing graphics : I enjoyed playing your game!

stanislav 2017-05-03 17:06

Great job! Nice concept and art-style.

chris-delta 2017-05-03 18:28

Very Cool! I loved the high-contrast in the art style, and how it made the Square thing apparent, but subtle. The whole thing left me wanting more.

luis-antonio 2017-05-03 22:24

I bugged trying to finish this game rsrsrsrsr, but the graphics are beatyful and the sound well..noizy! 9.5/10

navot 2017-05-04 17:18

Really cool game! The game is really fun, the laser feels really powerful and satisfying! I also really liked the music. One minor thing is that it isn't immediately obvious what the blocks you shoot and turn red do. However, apart from that, the game feels really nice, the world turning mechanic is cool, and it has a really consistent visual style, which looks good. Really impressive work!

simple-blue 2017-05-05 04:21

That was awesome. I was amazed by the circular world. Didn't even realize I could fire until I died and say that I had to fire to revive. It's that I learned I could fire, but I in the future when you continue to make this game awesome is tell the user that they can fire. Keep up the great work!

codechomper 2017-05-05 23:10

No Way you built that so quick!!! <-- It is so good!!!! I love how you worked with the depth of field when rotating. I am still trying to wrap my mind around how you made this. Very cool game great job!

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-07 09:16

Firstly - the sound effects are excellent - they really fit the game perfectly. I also love the art style. If you are able to spend more time developing it then I would suggest having the white sections fade-in rather than pop-in as it's a bit sudden (but that's a minor thing). The scale of what you've achieved in such a short time is incredible! Excellent game.

officialcodenmore 2017-05-08 00:43

I enjoyed the art style quite a bit, and I thought the gameplay was quite fun!

porcus-pie 2017-05-09 04:02

I really liked this game. It looked fantastic and sounded great as well. And to top it all off the game play was also really quite fun and satisfying. You managed to make each bullet have an impact, which felt really good. The sound effects also contributed to giving this a really action packed atmosphere. I have one or two minor compliants however, and thats about it. Because the player's character is black, with a tiny bit of red, it made it really hard in some moments to actually see where the character was. The only other thing would be that the boss battle was rather unexpected and quite easy. But all around great game, great concept, and great presentation

bunnery 2017-05-09 10:09

Love the look of the game - simple and minimalist - but very stylish! I really liked how the music ramps up the tension as you go along. It's fun to play - nicely done!

elzach 2017-05-10 19:15

Very cool aesthetics. The enemy variety is pretty decent, the challenge adeaquat and the jump and laserbeam are both pretty satisfying to use. Would've benefited from controller support (which really isn't too hard to do in unity - just use input.buttonDown("Jump") and input.buttonDown("Fire1") instead of input.KeyCode.Enter and .Space and thus having it cusomizeable in the unity input settings and it working for keyboard aswell as gamepad)

But like I said, very enjoyable title - although I think the "kinda roguelike" is a misnomer, as I've played through the game several times and it's been the same every time, down to the enemy placement.

Nonetheless, awesome work!

cheers~

wischutz 2017-05-10 21:06

Great game, mate!

I really enjoy the 2D/3D world and the way of the challenges fit the game experience.

The music, sound and graphics work very well together.

Is the best entry that I saw until now.

Congratulations and keep the awesome work!

Cheers!

Amazing little game, that somehow reminded me about one old classic game called Tower Toppler. One thing I'm not quite sure is if the player should see other side of the level in the background. But it's not an issue. So far, my favourite entry in this LD.

If you like to check our game, you can find it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/our-cramped-little-world

doc-ill 2017-05-12 01:51

Very good job! I like what you were able to accomplish with a very simple color palette. One thing I would suggest would be to try to make the protagonist contrast more with the rest of the level, as I sometimes lost sight of him/her. With some more content (levels, enemies, and maybe even a player progression system) I could definitely see this being released as a full game!

occultone 2017-05-12 02:14

I played this on Livestream Today at the request of the Developer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zCqO_O0iIo

Great job! The game looked, felt, and sounded cohesive. You have a good core design concept and grasp of how you want it to play. I think the only thing I had trouble with was the spinning perspective versus projectile position, but otherwise really great!

mooncalf 2017-05-12 02:23

This was super. Great aesthetic and solid gameplay. Difficulty was on point. All I can offer are small nitpicks : I think allowing players to still jump for a split second after they fall off a ledge would help with feel. Jump cancel on button up for reduced height jumps always feels good to me in these kinds of games as well and allows greater depth of play.

Fantastic entry, thanks for making it for us!

bobsleigh 2017-05-12 23:21

That really was one the the best game I've played. Very neat concept: nice theming there! My only complaint is about the control: hitting space bar to jump and enter to shoot felt very unatural to me: why not w to jump and space to shoot?

Other than that, as I said, that was such a great entry. The graphics, while minimalist felt so polished. The black red and white made a retro feel and it was perfect. The choice of music was right on the spot: it made the game very engaging. And agin: I really love your idea with the rotating platformer. Well done!!

cerno-b 2017-05-13 10:36

The visuals of your game are awesome! There are some minor graphics glitches that may come with the 3D world you designed. Sometimes I was stuck in a block, but it was easy to get out of, so nothing game breaking.

Sound effects are simple but appropriate for the visual style. They have a heft to them, which is good for arcady games. The music was very nice and also fit the atmosphere well. Level progression is good, with a nice difficulty curve leading up to a boss, which felt nice and gave the game proper closure. I would say it's a bit on the easy side, as I may have preferred a tougher experience where each level is a challenge and the game would reset you to the beginning of that level, but the version you made was very enjoyable too.

My main complaint would be the controls. I think a game like yours should split up movement and action between both hands (as with a controller), therefore Space/Enter for jump/shoot is not ideal in my opinion. A/D/Enter/Shift or Left/Right/A/D might have worked better.

Overall a very enjoyable, complete and beautiful game.

**Edit:** One comment: If you don't mark your game as Windows-compatible on itch.io, it's not possible to download it with the itch.io client.

Oh hell that's a lot of people! Thank you all so much for your comments/thoughts and feedback. It really means a lot to me and some points are very very helpful. I've written all your feedback down and I'm sure the game will be a lot better once I went through that list.

Can't thank you guys enough :) I really appreciate that! This community is so lovely, wish I had started earlier doing LD's :D

powerspark 2017-05-17 01:27

Great game, great pseudo-3D concept. The colors were well organized to make everything visible while keeping the aesthetic :D I can only say that I got to the boss twice but died pretty easily, I just didn't get the timing down. I hope you consider checkpoints! Nice entry!

Really lovely game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ9fOEQeXAs
