Cute game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/1N8pCHp9YZg), if you’d like to take a look :)
Haha, the prince art remonds me of my daughters book King Baby. Digging the art style for sure. Give our game a go if you have some time. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/belaruse-panic
Excellent idea of gameplay and nice realization with a smart level design ! The graphics are really cute and the audio is also good ! I did enjoy this game a lot. The only frustrating thing for me was the bee acceleration that sent me a lot of times in the red flashy things when I had to do really precise moves. But I managed to get to the end of the game ! Good work on it !
Haven't played this since it's windows only.
That said: The graphics sparkle with charm! And the gameplay reminds me of the water level in the first TMNT-game for the NES.
Oh my! So well put together. The art style is beautiful and conveys cuteness and humor!
I did have to throw the spoilt little basta...prince into the first evil bush on first meeting. The level design was a lot of fun as well, and worked the core mechanic really well into the different levels.
I don't really have anything constructive I can say, on what to improve as it's a really polished and feels very complete. I don't have my controller with me at the moment, but I'll defo be playing this with a controller plugged in.
Really good job!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW i really like it!!!!! the mechanic the graphics and the sound/music!!!!! sooo funny throw the little prince around! i dont know if was my pc or my bad hands but i cant jump-throw-pick mid air like the video in the hen part
This must be the cutest game in the entire jam!
LOL! Nice game! I definitely love a sound design. Arts are really cool too. Core game mechanic is interesting. Well done!
Btw, your chicken reminds me of the chicken object from GTA:SA!
Incredible! I love the whole package so much. The art and the music are so well done and fit together perfectly. The crying noise of the baby was actually hilarious, and the chickens were really hard to get through (BUT I DID IT WOOHOO!). Also, little things, like the chicken heads glowing red before they attacked (and being red during the "Hitbox" duration) made the game feel really fair and well done. Also, the fact that the platforms were spaced very nicely according to the throw-range of the player made it very satisfying to throw the baby and have him land perfectly. The difficulty curve of the levels felt perfect too. By the time I got to the onslaught of chickens, I was ready. Great job!
Lovely art style!
This is something!! One of the best games around. The story is so much fun. The music brought me back to a Rayman world. The crying prince is funny, the entire concept is beautiful and well developed. There are little details (like chicken heads mentioned above) that help the player a lot without taking away the challenge. Awesome job!!
I encountered a problem playing on my 1280x1024 monitor. All text boxes are below the screen, i can only see the very top of the characters and can't read anything. Music and sound effects are top notch and i liked the graphics and gameplay, too. Very cool and peaceful game!
Really cute game. This really feels more like a Jam Game than a Compo Game. A lot of production value.
Man, I hate those chickens though.
Such a well done polished game.
Loved the cute graphics and the prince story was a nice gameplay mechanic. Hard to come up with any improvement feedback since it already feels like a complete game with gorgeous graphics and music that compliments it in setting the mood.
The graphics are so nice!!! This doesn't really feel like a jam game it's so polished. Great job!
Thanks everyone!
@rixud: Can't you pickup in the air at all? It shouldn't be too hard to do. It can be kinda tricky to pickup in mid-air and then go into a glide though if you're thinking of that. Did you play on keyboard or gamepad? Some keyboards have key press limits that can mess you up and not register some presses.
@zorg: Yeah, it's made for 16:9, you can press F4 for window mode if that helps!
Probably the nicest graphics I've seen on a game so far. The music is charming and the crying sound effect is funny. I did find it a bit difficult to catch the prince mid-air, but I might just be bad at platformers. Overall a really cute and polished game.
Really liked this, lots of fun and so cute!
Cute little platformer. The only major frustration I had was that multi-jumping seemed a bit bugged at times: rapidly pressing jump would sometimes cause you to lose momentum instead of gaining it. This was particularly annoying when you had to quickly throw the prince to a high spot and retrieve him before he got hit. Otherwise though, its a nice solid entry.
Liked this game very much, nice mechanics, graphics and sound. I needed ~10 tries to clear the game, some places reminded me old games by their difficulty, but it's only an advantage.
When I was playing I thought it's a Jam game, really amazing that it was done in 2 days by you alone.
@photon: The height of each jump depends on how long you hold down the jump button. It's supposed to give you more control (low jump/high jump) but it does require some timing.
That is adorable, like an indie baby mario or bbc game. Mechanics are well implemented, level design is clever, I like how there a multiple routes based on how pro your movement skill is with the toss and double jump. Top scores for you.
Whoa, a actual fun escort mission :astonished: I loved bzz-ing around in this game and that spoiled prince is cute as heck!
Interesting game, very strange though haha. Alot of effort must have gone into the art so great work on that!
Really creative idea and gorgeous art! Great job :)
This is really adorable. Controls felt good. The levels had nice design. Great job.
Really liked it :) cute potato prince, the smile on the fairy's face if she accidentally kills the prince >:D. I'm always so impressed with the compo games and what people can accomplish on their own in so little time. Nice job!
Lovely, probably the best audio track I've encountered in this LD so far. It's very nice idea too, quite unusual for a 2d platformer, and it's amazing how complete this feels!
Cute game and a wonderful theme! I love the game and despite major frustration I played it to the end.
The biggest problem I have with this game is the control. The animation of the throw/pickup is too long, resulting in a game that feel like an experimental MMO Platformer, where everything you do is delayed 300ms. The girl doesn't throw when I tell her to throw, she does so 300ms later. This is really frustrating because it give the feeling that I am handicapped against the game.
Another problem I have with the control is when I press jump continuously (without prince) the bee doesn't fly up, she ends up hovering up and down. So in order to actually fly up I have to hold .3s, release, hold .3s, release.
It's fun to overcome hard challenges with a powerful, responsive character, it's never fun to overcome mediocre challenges with a slow, confusing character.
Overall it's a nice game, but the control really could be redesigned to be less frustrating.
Your game looks and sounds fantastic. The music is really good, and presentation wise the game is top notch.
There were some minor problems though. Controller support did not work at all, and unfortunately the keyboard mappings were not really intuitive for me. A reaction based game should not use the space bar because it's harder to push. Also using J and space was only comfortable to reach if I used the thumb for pressing space which was a bit awkward. The other issue may be due to my 16:10 screen, and caused the help text to be cut off halfway so I had to guess what the buttons were.
I enjoyed the game mechanics in general but the execution was a bit lacking in some respects. The maggot prince often didn't go where he was supposed to and those damn chickens made the whole ordeal a bit frustrating. I gave up at the stage with two platforms on top of each other with a chicken right next to them. I generally like difficult games, and yours certainly is, but a tough game need to get its controls perfect.
In summary, the game is really pretty and the soundtrack among the strongest I have seen so far, unfortunately the mechanics could use a little polishing. All in all you did a great job!
Thanks for the feedback :)!
@avavt I see what you mean with the animations. The pickup is probably not that much of a problem but the throw definitely is and should really be more instant since it's so much about timing. I got so used to the delay I didn't really think about it but for someone just picking up the game I can see the frustration. For the jumping, I still think you should be able to control the jump height depending on how long you hold the button (in contrast to flappy bird flight) but maybe the "stop" when you release is too sudden?
@cerno-b What controller did you use? I've only tested on an xbox controller. Also, since the screen got cut off maybe you didn't realize you need to switch to controller input with (F8)? I'm so used to (space) as jump but in hindsight I probably would have mapped the controls differently or at least given an alternative maybe (J)(K) since there is really only two buttons used in the game.
I used a PS3 controller but never had any problems with games that were designed for XBox controllers. And I did switch to controller, but none of the controller's buttons worked. I even made double sure that Windows recognized the controller, but it didn't work.
@silkworm-sweatshop for the jump, I think I know why I wasn't satisfied:
- I just feel that the difference between holding and pressing is too small. Take mario for example: when you hold the jump button, you can jump to almost 5x the height you do when you press (both higher jump and longer jump time). In the game, the amount of time I can keep holding to go up is too small (I would guess around 0.3s or something). So holding is not different enough from pressing. It actually take conscious "manual" control to keep the hold-press-hold-press sequence in order to maximize jump height.
- Slamming the button continuously doesn't make the bee fly up, she actually stay at the same general height. This does not fit well with the *character* - which is a bee. See, unlike a normal character, the bee is a winged insect. The jump behavior - which is similar to "flapping her wing" - does not go with a bee. A bee's wings flap continuously all the time. There's no "burst of speed" like a bird's.
But still, it's all just my personal experience with the game. Other people might have different opinion on that mechanic :D
nice game , nice sound nice graphic , i like it..
funny, pretty looking game. Simple but well done mechanics. Good, solid entry.
Really nice gameplay and visuals :) Quite challenging too, I gave up in the chicken level ^^'
One of the must cute and fun compo entries i have seen so far. The platforms sections later in the game is really challenging! Great job, really enjoyed it!
This game was pretty good. I thought that the game mechanic of repeatedly jumping was way too difficult, but that's just me. All of the graphics were cute except for the thorn bushes. Their repeated flashing was just annoying for me and hard on my eyes. The character animation was really smooth though.
Great graphics and gameplay, ditto about the bushes, maybe flash slower and flash red to show danger?
This is one of the smoothest and definitely the cutiest game I've seen on this LD! :O
