URLs are broken (but copy paste works) Looks like Unity output, care for a Linux build (do x86 + x86_64 Universal)?

internetpaulicy 2017-04-24 02:48

Thanks Jason. The links are good now.

Graphics are very well done, cool style! The audio fits the visual style, but it could have used some (simple) music. I was not sure what to do, because I couldn't shoot the large spiders, and there were markings on the floor that did nothing?

I really loved the camera angle, and the hybrid between 2D and 3D.

Well done!

peachtreeoath 2017-05-01 14:02

This is a fun variation of centipede. It looks and feels really good.

makenai 2017-05-01 23:54

Nice! I love reimagining the classics. I liked the touch that you are playing on an arcade cabinet but the spiders in the game are actual spiders from outside the game. Really polished graphics and fun variation on the game play.

batmanasb 2017-05-04 01:06

Very awesome graphics, love the mix of 2D and 3D. The audio is also top notch. But I kind of don't understand the game all too well. Pushing spiders back doesn't do much, and what happens when the creatures reach the bottom? Also, was I supposed to be breaking mushrooms... because the more that arise, the harder it seems to get!

frodewin 2017-05-11 23:34

Nice idea, the 3D view on the console add greatly to the athmosphere, as well as the spiders crawling on top of the screen which gives a great effect.

flaterectomy 2017-05-13 10:40

I never played centipede, so I had no clear idea what I was meant to do. Kill the centipede, kill the spiders... do something with the portals? The big spiders went in the portals and came out smaller and sometimes left again, sometimes came back.

The art looks good, I like the tilted 3D form of it, and the colour scheme feels solid as well. The audio was painful through my headset at times. An arcade game like this feels like it needs music though.

Even if I was confused as to my purpose in the grand scheme of things, it feels like a decent entry, though it seems to not deal with the theme very much. I guess it's the visuals that appealed to me the most.

I like this mix of 2D and 3D. This game is fun. Good work! :)

multiplexor 2017-05-13 11:41

Nice! 18600 was my topscore! :)

I love the 2D 3D graphics and the mechanics are quite clever! The game just keeps getting harder and harder by itself!

Great game, simple and fun! Keep up the great work! :D

nekusoul 2017-05-13 11:41

Very cool combination of 2D and 3D. The sound and graphics are also on point.

spacewarp 2017-05-13 17:55

I like the combination of 3D-spiders getting teleported in and 2D-graphics on the screen. The blurring-effect got a bit annoying, as did the controls.

kate-kligman 2017-05-14 05:57

Love these style of games, and the humor with the spider was great. The joystick at the bottom is a nice touch too. Great job!

btwj 2017-05-14 08:09

I'm not very good at arcade games, but this was fun. The 2D-3D hybrid graphics was pretty cool too. There could be a little more in-game instructions at the start, as it wasn't exactly clear whether the 3D spiders were meant to be shot, or what the mushrooms did. Otherwise, good job! :)

nimbus 2017-05-14 08:15

Cool idea with the spiders! It was a fun game, good job!

porcus-pie 2017-05-14 08:22

Nice work. The game felt really fun, and really satisfying to play, and it definitely did feel like a modern version of the classic arcade games. I love how the the game was designed to look and feel like you were playing it in a cabinet, which was fantastic, although the tilted screen did get annoying. I was a bit confused as how to play at first, but once I figured it out I had loads of fun. Great work

jaenis 2017-05-14 09:42

Great implementation! :D You are playing a game while you are playing a game, nice work :)

Also good game there, thanks!

wolderado 2017-05-14 11:28

Great combination of 3D and 2d. Gameplay was great ( despite a few bugs (pun intended) ) but goal isn't that clear. I didn't figure out what I'm supposed to do to gain coins. Should I destroy everything on the screen? I feel like mushrooms are quite useful so I didn't destroyed them. Anyway great game!

internetpaulicy 2017-05-14 17:44

@wolderado thanks for playing my game! Sorry it was confusing. Its just a score attack game so no worries about coins :)

damien-remars 2017-05-14 19:45

Cool!

skruffye 2017-05-14 20:09

Nice game. I liked the voxel feel and the level of polish was very clear, but I'm not sure how it was supposed to innovate on Centipede? It came across as largely just a clone, unless I missed something.

I wasn't really sure what the bombs were for seeing as how they didn't seem to damage the spiders at all.

Anyway, good job, keep it up!

-Skruffye

internetpaulicy 2017-05-14 20:39

@skruffye its true, it is totally a bit of a clone. I have always wanted to play around with centipede and took the opportunity. It is a small world of mushrooms and bugs.

shamps 2017-05-14 21:19

The graphics on this are cool - retro style! I like the idea of playing it within an arcade machine (fits the tone) but the angle of the screen made me feel a bit disconnected from the action. Some power-ups would be awesome. I wasn't sure how to progress - something to do with the worm-holes maybe..? Controlled really well. The mushrooms made the centipede's movements unpredictable and made the gameplay challenging without being difficult.

husky 2017-05-15 07:33

Wow, this is really neat! so many surprise things happened in this arcade, exciting and smooth! Good job :D

neontropics 2017-05-15 10:54

Hah, this was pretty great. Gameplay starts of simple but ramps up very nicely, I liked how the enemies split into multiple smaller ones when shot. Movement patterns reminded me of Space Invaders. I really like how you had both 3d and 2d enemies. Sound design is good as well, and I really liked the game over effect of everything exploding in order.

Very well done! Some cool chiptune-ish music would be awesome as well.

boorik 2017-05-16 15:32

Good arcade game. Efficient graphics and sounds.

piscythe 2017-05-18 19:39

I think the voxel art worked really well since this is a variant of a classic title. The bomb and spider mechanics were inventive, but they were also confusing for someone who didn't realize what was going on. The sounds were more or less exactly what they needed to be. I'm not sure what any of it had to do with a bad random number generator though. It's been a long time since I played the original, but the core mechanics from that are still solid. The difficulty curve seems well calibrated as well.

My score 28000/2nd attempt

internetpaulicy 2017-05-19 01:16

@piscythe I usually start with the name of the game before I do anything else. I had been watching a lot of old arcade games on youtube and I noticed that centipede actually had a lot of really interesting rng and procedural elements. I decided that I would try to make a version of centipede that all was messed up. I had also been watching a lot of metroid speed runs hearing them talk about good rng. Basically, I was compelled to call something bad rng and to make use of centipede. It does not make any sense in that there is no way that anyone could figure this out :)

28000 on the second try is pretty good

piscythe 2017-05-19 03:42

@internetpaulicy

That is basically the opposite of how I do things. I usually panic and try to find a name after I've already made the game. Your way sounds better.
