Giant Kitteh!! Nice concept, and I liked the fact that you could hide behind the bush to avoid the giant purple alien cat thing. Good job! :D I kept starving due to starvation. I wasn't sure how to turn the seeds into eatable food.

frodewin 2017-04-26 07:50

Thanks for the feedback! You need to water the seeds so they grow into plants and then eat the fruits. Press space on the crank of the well to get water and then walk over to the seeds and water them (space). When you are tired, go to your house's door and enter by pressing space. When a plant has fruits, harvest them with the down key. As you already found out, the bush can be used to hide with space key.

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/MygbzdcNT_8), if you’d like to take a look :)

unentokku 2017-04-26 11:51

Didn't realize the crank was a separate thing from the well until I saw you mention it, also maybe the cheese fruits just weren't ready or something but I couldn't figure out how to eat them(they were at the stage shown in title screen)

the-doctor090 2017-04-26 22:12

This was a cool game, I used to use scratch and I never could make this much.

ps. @jupiter-hadley add this game to your video https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/bitverse ;)

Nice, why do the music isn't playing when you're playing, it seems to be cool in the starting screen. Good little sounds. Also I think that the cheese/fruits takes too long to grow because I died because of the hunger several times. Except this, I think it's a good game done in 48h, good graphics, good idea. Maybe that the mouse (and the cat too) could run faster, it could have been more enjoyable.

simonhutchinson 2017-04-29 00:22

Nice. I grew a cheese tree, but I couldn't seem to eat any of the cheese!?

I like the overall feel though, and the sound design! Nice work in Scratch!

frodewin 2017-05-01 01:24

@simonhutchinson if the cheese tree is large enough you can harvest and eat with cursor down key.

Cute game! The sound effects in the game go really well with the game's graphics. The game was pretty straightforward, once I understood how to play it. That cat really loves to teleport, man. I like how the small world theme is approached here; the camera is focused in a close view of the mouse, and you can see that when you walk in a straight line, you end up right where you started. I like this perspective.

I managed to survive for 36 days, but the difficulty plateaued pretty early on in the game, and this made it more of an endless game of patience, which means dying of boredom to see how many days you survive. :P

Some issues:

- Pressing the C key twice results in this screen popping up: little mouse planet 01.png - If you press the C key again at that screen, it cycles through a bunch of numbers in the centre of the screen (with the Game Over text gone), from 0 to 9, before sending you back to the titlescreen. - Like I mentioned above, once I understood how everything worked, the game didn't really offer much difficulty. I think there are several ways to approach this (and if you wanted to continue working on the game more after this, the progression of difficulty in an endless game like this would be the best thing to focus on imo). For instance, sleeping in the house lowered my tired metre, but also restored my health. This was probably the thing that made the game too easy. Maybe over time, the speed of the cat could increase and more bushes could be added, etc. These are just things you could consider, but you definitely don't have to do exactly that.

The game, aside from those issues above, is solid. The titlescreen music, by the way, sounds like it was made in ORG Maker. I was surprised, when I looked at your game page, that this was not the case.

joekinglake 2017-05-01 09:18

Very cute game, enjoyed the concept and themeing of the game a lot!

lars-dk 2017-05-01 09:57

Interesting submission - really good for a compo entry!

Graphically the game has an interesting aesthetic. I liked the cute characters, although the animation was slightly jagged sometimes. UI was good but seriously, the controls were very weird and probably needed UI explanations of some sort.

The sound effects weren't great but I appreciate they were there. I LOVED the voices! Really nice touch though I would have liked if the cat's voice was set apart more somehow. The music in the title screen was ok. Probably could have used some gentle in-game music too.

The gameplay suited the small world theme well. It wasn't super-innovative but it did the genre justice and was really fun for a time, which is all I can really ask for. The water > food > survival mechanic was simple and it worked. It could have increased in complexity as the game progressed, to avoid repetition of the same challenge.

Overall I enjoyed the entry and congratulate you on an awesome job.

fedor 2017-05-01 14:01

Nice idea!! I like the mouse animations and sounds. I needed some time too understand how to play but after that it was really enjoyable. Probably you should add some explantions at start. Good work ;)

earthcollapse 2017-05-01 19:59

Nice take on the survival genre, and really amazing that this was made with scratch and in such a short time! :) The controls could be a bit clearer. I never figured out that I had to use the down key to eat the fruits. I only found out by reading your comments here :P

dragojt 2017-05-01 21:35

I've been eaten by a giant cat T_T

izunah 2017-05-01 23:17

I've only seen a little bit of Scratch and from the little that I've seen you've accomplished something pretty impressive. I enjoyed the game and the art is very cutsy, as well as the sound assets. My biggest gripe was the visual feedback I got, I wish I could tell / reinforce that I am doing the right actions when watering plants. My logical reasoning is that the more I water the faster they grow(do they grow when not being watered?)

Great job, I cannot imagine the degree of difficulty it was undertaking this.

supermsp10 2017-05-01 23:35

Pretty simplistic art but it works well with your game. The sounds do the job. Maybe more of a story / objective is needed

wheerd 2017-05-02 06:34

This game is a nice little gem. I like the art style and the cute voice messages. The music is also nice. It took me quite a while to figure out how to use the well. Also I was not able to eat the cheese on the ground, so eventually I starved :pensive: Not sure if that is a bug or if I just did not figure out how to eat anything. The cat is also cool and makes the game more interesting. Very well done game!

davidthelazar 2017-05-02 13:46

Nice little game. I was genuinely startled when the cat would appear and I had to run away. I would suggest adding a quick screen showing the controls. I starved my first time because I didn't know what to push to harvest the cheese/fruit. Since spacebar did everything else, I had assumed that was what I needed to push.

Cute, fun game.

coderdozer 2017-05-02 20:57

That was pretty cool. Nice artwork. The cat design is great, wasn't expecting it to be so big, had me running real fast!

Nice job!

themonsterfromthedeep 2017-05-03 06:40

Nice game. Sound effects are some of the most interesting I've seen in a Ludum Dare game; I usually don't see actual recorded sounds. I think some of the animations could use extra frames - some of them look a bit choppy.

In regards to the gameplay, it appears that it's basically impossible to survive if you don't immediately start watering the first cheese. This seems a bit unfair, especially for players just starting out. Past that, the main problem is that the game is very repetitive - the only way to win is to water plants, sleep, hide from cat, repeat. I'm not entirely sure what new variety could be introduced, but that's definitely the main point to improve on.

Also, kudos for making successful rotary controls. Several other games have confusing controls because the player moves, not the world, but this game doesn't have that problem.

fiote 2017-05-04 01:51

The big cat scared me, lmao! For a Scratch game, that was pretty neat. Good job on it!

jakob-willforss 2017-05-06 06:44

I think the artwork was neat, it had its own style :) I wasn't able to figure out how to pick up and eat food, and think it could have benefitted by having a stronger sense of urgency - It was quite easy to avoid the cat and keep up with the other things. Nevertheless, I think it was a nice entry, and I would guess that some effort has gone into drawing and animating that cat!

erkberg 2017-05-06 07:18

What an adorable little game! Cute art style and especially sound effects. The music stopped when I started the game and never returned, which is a bit unfortunate. Also, the controls were a little weird. I tried to get water from the fountain in front of it at first, not realizing that it only workd on the right side. And I tried to harvest food with the space button and only two deaths later (I thought maybe the food was not big enough yet) realized that the down arrow was responsible for that. I kept playing for a bit though and really enjoyed my time with the game, good job overall!

papaver 2017-05-07 21:45

Cute game! I am bit confused how much water a plant needs, but it was fun to see them grow. I was suprised by the cat, that was nice. :) I was also surprised that the cat sometimes was in another location than I expected. The graphics are cute, but you could consider using the same line width in your drawings. The music was nice, and I would have liked it (or other music) in-game as well! I was also confused that I had to use the down arrow key to harvest the food. Congrats with your game. :D

vladik-plays 2017-05-08 17:46

Awesome idea. The sounds are hilarious ;D Nice job overall.

jin47 2017-05-09 13:47

Nice Idea. It took me some time to figure out what to do and not just trying to eat the cheese on the floor. Nice job on the audio and graphics! Good job!

jezzamon 2017-05-15 02:01

Cool to see scratch being used! I couldn't figure out how to eat food and so I starved the first two times I tried to play :( I had to look through the scratch editor to figure out what control I needed to press.

boorik 2017-05-15 07:03

Nice survival game! Great job with scratch, love everything : concept, art and sound.

budaniel 2017-05-16 05:26

That was fun, and the cat showing up the first time was a jump-in-my-seat moment. I slept for the first time, woke up and went to fill a watering can and suddenly **GIANT KILLER HOT PINK CAT OF DEATH!** I ended up nearly starving to death, though, because stuff was growing so slowly for me, but instead I chose the hero's death and charged headlong at **GIANT KILLER HOT PINK CAT OF DEATH**.

That ended just as one would expect.

madjackmcmad 2017-05-16 07:25

Why couldn't I eat the cheese :(

Mouse not smart enough to put food in mouth. Mouse starves in front of a pile of cheese. RIP mouse.

ithildin 2017-05-17 15:48

Nice idea! The voice of the mouse was cute, and I liked the graphics. The first time you meet the cat is quite memorable.

As for feedback, like others I also kept trying to eat the cheese seeds until I found out they weren't immediately edible and you had to take care of them. Some other actions weren't clear enough (for example, I managed to fill the watering can by accident, after I'd been trying to interact with the well unsuccessfully), so I ended up starving on my first playthrough.

Good job! It is interesting to find games developed in Scratch :)

pcmaster 2017-05-18 10:08

Hi! I died after 8 days. I watered the seeds, something grew, I watered them more and more but couldn't figure out how to eat the cheese. Same problem as people before me. Maybe we're not smart enough? :D And the pink/violet cat was, indeed, a killer! :D

gama-croma 2017-05-18 10:27

Very cute and work well, maybe some stuff grew too slow?

spacesparkle 2017-05-19 14:25

Looks nice, the cat is so gruesome! I enjoy the concept, although even after figuring out how everything works I still didn't manage to survive first wave of hunger and died of starvation. The cat is a scary addition, I like how it gives a lot of "horror" to this peaceful game.

joemid 2017-05-20 17:53

Cool! I picked up all the actions right away. Love this little planet and all of it's details! "I'm a bit tired!" Thanks and congrats!

kinjin 2017-05-20 18:36

Cute Scratch game with good concept and great artwork !

My cat was disturb when she was hearing the meow.

bebop 2017-08-02 21:41

cute game :)

johanhelsing 2019-05-01 08:10

Interesting spin and twist on the farming genre. At first I was getting really relaxed and ready to live a nice quiet life on the little planet. Then I heard that first freaking miao, and I was so scared. And the cat is SOO huge and PURPLE :) Love it!

cappie 2025-04-07 00:41

Hi, the game is wonderful, especially the concept, bravo. For your information, I died after 7 days because I wanted to water the big pink cat. It wasn't a great idea on my part. XD
