LD38 — A Small World

Sky Roads by BloodJohn 2017-04-24T22:24:14Z

I really enjoy the art in this project. Overall it's calm and relaxed. I like it, although the puzzles could be a tiny bit more challenging. I've fixed the link on my page, thank you for pointing out my mistake

More Room! by Skosnowich 2017-05-19T14:42:27Z

Graphics don't show it at first but the game is deep and very polished. I enjoyed it immensely especially the tutorial, which is a rare sight on LD. Main mechanics are well executed, nothing to complain. The concept of increasing the scale of operations was a nice surprise for me, great. The game shows you are ambitious and have done a good job.

Where is mommy? by jQnas 2017-05-19T15:48:33Z

Incredible game. The music sets the mood perfectly. The game itself brings me back to my childhood like no other, the dread and fear of the dark, oh! When the girl ran away for the first time I didn't realize why it had triggered and it made the experience even more frightening! Having figured out why my heart starts beating so loudly and that buttons area labeled it was a smooth ride to the end. Maybe even too smooth, as I was no longer afraid.

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-19T14:08:47Z

Very confusing at first due to the lack of tutorial. UI could use some work but other than that it captured my interest well. Graphics are cute, audio pleasant although the flood sound effect was a bit too loud. I would like to see it developed further.

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-02T08:26:48Z

I find this game really intriguing, mostly because of combination of fighting and resource management. The randomness might have been a bit too "random", I think that more trees spawning near the center of the screen would help the balance. Graphics were pleasant, sounds enjoyable, I wish there was some music in the background.

It's A Small World by danman9914 2017-05-02T09:39:52Z

Ah the twist! While the ending was not really my favorite, the idea itself was mind-blowing.

Fantastic story, absolutely adorable art, great animations, cute speech bubbles and so much more. It's incredible how much was done in 48 hours. The way the buildings and other objects tipped when on the edge of the screen gave it so much charm.

My only nitpick is that the music was a bit repetitive.

SmallWorlds by xoidberg 2017-05-19T11:23:57Z

Fun, demanding and with fluid controls. Got to 620k on my best run. Asteroids should be little bit less punishing, I often died just because I hit one by accident and were not able to reach the closest planet. Music was a bit repetitive, but it's not a big issue.

Unlucky Planet by Siridakis 2017-05-19T21:37:22Z

Great game, keeps one interested! However gets boring after you get all the upgrades and can just spin in one direction and jump constantly to get over 3k every time. Lovely graphics, a bit repetitive music but good sounds.

TARJECTORIES by csanyk 2017-05-19T12:10:54Z

I spend too much time playing this game, I think it means I like it! Could use some music to go along with it. I found your post mortem very enjoyable to read. Having worked on a similar project in the past, I know how fun it is to play with gravity and multiple planets.

There are some little improvements I think could be made. The UI is too far away from the action, I need to move my eyes so far to check relevant info like power and time. Maybe place it under the turret? Levels with two planets are introduced too late, they are way more fun than single planet levels and I should at least know that I can expect the start (even a screenshot on the page would do). One level with three planets for the final would be awesome.

The game is still absurdly fun as it is. Loved it!

Defense Against the Giants by mango-malarkey 2017-05-19T14:01:55Z

Very fun tower defense game! Love the graphic style, impressive textures for a compo entry! In my experience enemies were well balanced. I found an exploit, where after alt-tab the time between waves was infinite and I was able to spam goldmines to get infinite money. Without the exploit mines and runes seem quite useless, runes range is to small to really help with the quick guys. And as previously noted, reaching high enough wave causes wave counter to count up every frame.

Game lacks polish but is fun anyway and very pretty.

Inner Circle by Dev FF 2017-05-19T11:36:01Z

Interesting idea but definitely needs more work. Catching friends was very difficult, they moved way too fast. I liked how one has to balance time they spend with different people and finding new friends. It also sows how short life is and that we should live it the best way. Love the end message.

Lonely Moon by manou 2017-05-19T13:06:50Z

Good looking game, it sets an atmosphere very well. I tried to complete it several times, always run out of oxygen needing just 1 or 2 seconds more to make it. The time limits should be a bit lower. Great graphics, very impressive for a compo entry. Have you really done the textures and models yourself?! They look so professional.

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-19T16:21:14Z

Interesting where The Little Prince has taken you. I adore the graphics style. The puzzles were a bit over-complicated in my opinion. The sound effects were adorable, wish there was more.

Terrartisan by ladybenko 2017-05-02T11:23:01Z

Lovely concept and nice music. I had good fun solving the puzzles (especially the fourth one), I wish there was more. It took me some time to figure out what the numbers at the bottom mean, they could have a better description.

It's a fun toy!

Little Mouse Planet by Frodewin 2017-05-19T14:25:59Z

Looks nice, the cat is so gruesome! I enjoy the concept, although even after figuring out how everything works I still didn't manage to survive first wave of hunger and died of starvation. The cat is a scary addition, I like how it gives a lot of "horror" to this peaceful game.

Conquer Earth by Lars DK 2017-04-29T14:57:15Z

Thank you for your feedback on my game.

After playing few rounds of Conquer Earth I must say I really enjoyed the experience. Combination of board game and card game mechanics worked great. The gameplay was a bit slow however. I found myself repeatedly clicking "Mine" to get resources a lot. The RNG was unfair, sometimes placing all the starting weapons on the other side of the map. More distinctions between weapons wouldn't hurt either, but we all know how precious the time is during LD.

It would be great if it supported multiplayer, as the AI definitely has it flaws and I can see myself playing the game with friends.

The sleek design suits the game, it keeps the screen clear. The character art is... "unique". Music and sounds are very pleasant to listen to.

Hope to see you next time during LD39!

kumo. by Turbo Hermit 2017-05-02T17:19:52Z

Oh! So relaxing. Slow revolutions of the Sun, calm growth of the grass, peaceful notes hitting my ears with every flower grown, lovely! I can only nitpick, maybe too much. Why does the Sun pass underneath my flowers? Why does sound of the rain go so quickly from one side to the other when the cloud crosses the middle. And what am I supposed to do after I finish? I ask because I need more! I liked it so much.

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-02T09:19:57Z

What a beautiful experience it was! As others have said the gorgeous graphics and peaceful music create a wonderful atmosphere, which makes one want to come back to this game. The only cons are real nitpicks, like uneven audio levels between stages or flipped wing of the butterfly. I could also add that I was quite confused when the game changed into a sidescroller as I was not expecting it at all!

Played the game twice, completing it 100% on the second attempt. I wish I could save my lovely winged friend.

Leucos by Harry Alissavakis 2017-05-02T10:15:32Z

A solid game! The art is very well designed and suits the theme so well. Everything was sharp and easily distinguishable, a big plus for me. Audio was pleasant with nice music. Good pacing and sharp controls made it very enjoyable to play. I had some problems with jittery movement mid-jump and the fact that to get any power-ups I had to leave the target completely undefended.

MicroCHIP by Tony Godfrey 2017-05-19T21:48:38Z

Great graphics and especially the animations, I would love to see some on the character model as well. Game is polished although a bit bland. Maybe one gameplay mechanic would give it enough depth to make the game truly stand out. The sounds were enjoyable.

The idea itself is very interesting, I wish there was more depth, because I can see potential in this game.

Strangeness by philomory 2017-05-19T21:07:40Z

First of all, thank you for your incredibly insightful comment on my game.

Having played your I am very pleasantly surprised. The graphics give a rather poor first impression. I liked the puzzles and a steeper than usual learning curve. The ability to throw rocks at enemies gave the game depth while being simple itself, good design! My complaint would regard the level design. On few levels there are extra keys which are absolutely unnecessary (played bug-fixed version) and only confuse the player, distracting from the actual puzzle. This aspect should be improved. Other than that and music being a bit repetitive, it's a great entry!

Leafcutters by gimbalock 2017-05-19T15:23:30Z

Not a big fan of management sims myself but your game managed to keep me interested for longer than I'd like to admit, congratulations! It shows such a great potential, it's a real shame you didn't manage to expand it but it's still impressive for a compo entry. I could basically copy what @cerno-b said, I agree with his points. I also wish the game was a more demanding and with a proper lose condition.

Would like to see it developed further!

My Very Own World by SpaceSparkle 2017-04-24T22:06:08Z

I forgot to make it public on itch.io :P

My Very Own World by SpaceSparkle 2017-04-29T12:13:42Z

@lars-dk Thank you very much for your thorough review.

I appreciate your positive comments about artistic aspects of the game. I am well aware of the problems regarding the complexity of the combat system. I should have planned it more carefully from the beginning, because the system ended up being unnecessarily over-complicated. When designing the UI I realized there is no way to convey to the player how it really works. A tutorial wouldn't do the job either. Balance is also incorrect, as I found no time to completely playtest the game before the deadline.

You can exit to main menu at any time, just press Esc. Sometimes on web version you need to press it twice, as the site uses the same button to exit fullscreen.

Lessons for me: make the mechanics more clear to the player, invest more time in playtesting and make sure the game explanation actually explains anything.

NO STEP ON HYOOMINS by makenai 2017-05-02T17:02:55Z

It's incredible how fun such a simple idea can be. At first I was a bit disturbed by the graphics and amount of gore but decided to read your post-mortem and finally to give the game a try. The feeling of being a giant is real! I was so wary where I step. The fact that my feet block the sight only adds to the tension. While the sounds are not entirely yours they suit the atmosphere well. I admire how you executed the principals from "Game Jam Survival Guide", your game shows, that it's well thought out.

_Save_ by iamteekay 2017-05-19T12:51:03Z

I absolutely love the graphics! Game is fast and addictive. I like how the player is invincible, it gives a great feel.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Coffy by NickZangus 2017-08-02T15:02:18Z

Although it's far from innovative it's a very solid game. It's rare to something so polished during a jam, a welcome change. I absolutely love the music, it's terrific! I feel like the difficulty ramps up very quickly.

Fish-Boy by retr0verse 2017-08-02T11:57:18Z

Lovely graphics and nice atmosphere. Procedural games are quite rare at LD. I enjoyed the movement, it was fluid and precise enough to perform all the stunts. The speed at which you slide down walls could be increased. I wish that the fact that you can only stick to grass less walls was pointed out at the beginning. The game suffers a bit from repetition, I learned all possible "rooms"in 2 minutes and there was nothing that would surprise me anymore. Is there anything that makes the game harder with time?

Robbery Bob by Yvanor 2017-08-02T13:47:56Z

Solid gameplay, presentation and good take on theme. It amazed me how well executed the whole thing was and how much content you managed to fit into a compo entry. Although I am already a bit bored of pixel art it worked really well here.

Hallway Creep by slunkey 2017-08-02T13:56:08Z

The game needs a lot of work. Mostly ways to tell the players how they are doing, what is going on etc. It's a shame that the game wasn't developed further, because the concept is neat.

Running out of Power by milano23 2017-08-03T10:35:45Z

Not bad, although sliding puzzles are not my thing. It's nice that levels are randomly generated but it brings many problems. The difficulty is all over the place and not really increasing with time. Sometimes I even start a level that's already complete! The algorithm which generates the puzzles could use some work but other than that everything works very well.

To The Very End by MalicWanderer 2017-08-03T10:50:22Z

I liked the graphics and sound a lot! They created a great atmosphere. The idea of powering down various systems was neat but made the game brutally hard at the end. Aliens with blasters were very difficult for me, because they could shoot in 360 deg while I was limited to 8 cardinal directions.

Demonic Powers by gilborn 2017-08-02T14:11:25Z

I was simply amazed by how fun the game turned out to be. First impression was rather negative, I didn't enjoy the graphics at first but when I got into the core of the gameplay I wasn't paying attention anymore. "Shame!" must be the funniest sound I've heard so far during this LD. I love how interactive everything is. It was a good choice to spawn player inside, as it makes it easier to discover that one can punch down walls, brilliant! After I beat the game (took me few tries, perfect difficulty) I can notice there was a lot of effort put into this entry. Good music, great gameplay, fantastic "Shame"!

George The Robot by Entity 2017-08-02T18:18:11Z

Graphics and audio were awesome. George is so cute! As already mentioned the difficulty curve could use some work, 3rd level is way to difficult for it's place in the game. Restarting after a bluescreen isn't fun either especially with levels that could be failed by one wrong key press (super annoying when it's your first time on a given screen).

Electric Neon by kamikaziuk 2017-08-02T12:45:34Z

Strangely enough I think that the hardcore mode (I love it) is easier than normal. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: It encourages more careful driving. Got to about 80 points I think.

There are very few flaws in this entry, other than the inability to turn in reverse, no major problems. It's incredible how much you managed to create in 48 hours.

Charge UP: EXTREME! Limited Edition by drinix 2017-08-02T17:53:59Z

I wish I could play your game but straight after running the exe my screen turned black and I could not exit the program (had to restart my pc in the end). I do have the VC++ redist installed, but maybe not the newest.

Veggie Power by SpaceSparkle 2017-08-02T15:09:31Z

@gilborn Thank you so much for pointing out this bug. I thought I had all bugs related to restarting ironed out, but it turns out I was wrong.

Mountaintop Groovy Robot Laser Battle by Jeremy Ryan 2017-08-02T14:48:30Z

Lovely graphics and a great concept. Despite having few years of musical experience playing this game proved to be much more difficult than I thought. After a while I got the hang of jumping, shooting and blocking but regenerating energy rarely worked. Is the calibration really necessary? I feel like despite pressing keys exactly on beat it sometimes does not react. If so why not calibrate with WASD, which usually has a different response than space? Music is very catchy, it's mostly because of it I gave this game like a dozen restarts. It just makes me want to come back for more! I would just tweak the solo a bit to accentuate the beat more. I easily get lost during it having to kill monsters at the same time.

Flashlight by BelowParallel_Ian 2017-08-03T10:19:49Z

Quite interesting for a platformer. I only wish the movement was less floaty, especially in mid-air. Everything seems well executed but definitely could use more work (music to give some atmosphere would be great).

MoonBall by CurseTats 2017-08-03T11:56:04Z

I like the music and graphics, they create nice atmosphere. Physics and level design could use some work. When controlling a ball it's strange that you would get stuck on a smallest bump. Some parts of levels are one-way streets so if you make a wrong move you have no chance of fixing your mistake. I can see potential in this project if these issues are fixed.

Energy Switch by Cshow 2017-08-02T18:07:24Z

I like the concept of getting energy from blocks to later use it elsewhere, a lot could be done with this idea. Sadly the possibilities where left unexplored and platforming took their place. This is my biggest gripe, because there is so much that could be done. I had no bigger problem with the controls, but they could be a bit sharper. Level 4 needs a "sign" to point player to the left, it took me few tries to realize where I should go.

EnergyBoy - Open World Tower Defense by Daniel Kartafla 2017-08-02T11:33:03Z

I wish there was more work put into the game. Whole concept is quite fun and it follows the theme very well but there are numerous problems. First of all the placement of buildings is rather unintuitive as it seems to be based on an offset grid. If that's the case, what do I need the cursor for? Second of all there are some bugs with enemy AI, they often march off into the distance in a random direction. It would also be good, if their spawn point was marked on the map. With these issues fixed and some minor balancing it would be a solid game.

The Power of Nature by razveck 2017-08-02T12:33:14Z

The concept is very original and likable. I had fun playing the game and managed to survived for about 10 minutes. I wish there was a timer or some kind of high score. A table of how many units you have would also be handy. There seems to be a lot of AI optimizations that could be done. The red minion definitely needs a rework, because he is rather useless. The simple graphics work well for the game. From artistic perspective the only thing missing would be some chilling music in the background.

Funkotron 5k by Jannes Nagel 2017-08-02T18:34:02Z

Wow! Everything from voice acting in the beginning, through blasting beats during the game, all the way to the smooth ending was a blast. I liked how the game simply closes itself in the end. The music was absolutely top notch as well as animations. The monster seemed a bit out of place though, stylistically it sticks out a lot. And the IK on its legs is hilarious. You managed to make me have FUN through the whole experience, that's the most important.

Character Building by Badly Drawn Rod 2017-08-02T20:17:50Z

Lesson I learned by playing this game: life is random so do random things. I tried about 5 times to win and finally went with purely random answers and won. Oh you surely made me fear family life!

Great game. You managed to squeeze a lot of content into it, although the consequences were a bit too random for my liking. I enjoyed the simple music as well.

Space Rescue. My first Jam game by Joskineide 2017-08-03T11:01:21Z

Really great entry. Game seems very polished and level design is well thought out. Graphics are nice and clean, everything stands out well, although players astronaut could be more different than others. Simple sound gives a bit of atmosphere. I especially liked how movement feels. Maybe it's not the most realistic (high drag in space, bumpy screen borders) but works great in game.

How about putting a WebGL version for people to play? It's a great strength of Unity.

TITAN, Defend Earth before it's too late by MichaelTWG 2017-08-03T10:12:43Z

Very unique idea for a game. I feel like the jumps are a bit too aggressive but other than that everything works really well together!
