Super cool and fun game man.Good job.
Frenetic. Gorgeous. Skill required. Good work ++
Fun game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/GZJJwwdwpaQ), if you’d like to take a look :)
Really fun, and the presentation/graphics were fantastic. The sprites reminded me of Downwell, which I love.
Very fun little game. The screenshake is very important and works in favor of the game. It would really come to life more if it had some music.
I really like the idea of not protecting your ship but a small world. I will go into a bit more detail about this mechanic because I think there is room for improvement.
First of all, your ship is basically invincible, which was a bit confusing at first. I think it is a good idea to not have two things that could die, but I think it might have worked better if there was some way of being punished for getting hit, like being propelled across the screen or not being able to fire for a few seconds.
Next you chose to counterweight the power of the special weapons by allowing them to harm the planet. While I appreciate the thought, I think the weapons are not useful enough for such a big disadvantage, especially the laser which can decrease the planet's life quickly. The weapons feel great and it's fun to use them but they feel impractical after a while.
Finally, have you thought about getting rid of the energy bar and instead show the planet's life implicitly, e.g. by reducing its size or having chunks blasted off it when it's hit? I think it would avoid the initial confusion that it's not your life bar but the planet's.
From a replayability perspective, I think the game's difficulty should ramp up a bit faster to get that "one more round!" feeling. Maybe introduce the weapons bit by bit instead of all at the same time. Maybe play around with the idea of having rounds instead of a single continuous level.
Overall I think it's a very solid game with a few flaws. I really like minimalistic games like this and the feel of the game is spot-on. My suggestions for improvement would be to tweak the mechanics a bit more.
It looks like we had the same Idea for a game so It's a little weird to judge this entry but I'm going to do it either way.
I had a little problem with the hit stopping when breaking a lot of objects with the beam as it appeared like the game was lagging instead of the hit stop. I really liked the different powerups but I had a problem with them as they almost didn't change much the attack power between them, as they spawn a lot you often have to choose which one you want but as they are almost the same in attack power then that decision is meaningless. I really like the graphics too and the player feedback that they give is nice.
As it is, this is a fun game, it just needs a little more polishing. Good job!
Cool game! The controls were fun and the gameplay was simple, the audio and the graphics fit quite nicely. Good job!
Very cool. The Aesthetic is beautiful, the sounds are great, and the gameplay is fun. The laser is so fun, it felt great every time I grabbed the laser I felt so powerful. I wish there was some music to go with it. Well done!
Great feel and gameplay and i love the simple aesthetic!
Love black and white games - really gives it a cool retro feel. I enjoyed the fact that I couldn't die - gives you chance to concentrate on saving the planet. Fun and surprisingly addictive!
First of all, the art is very appealing. It makes me think of old arcade games, but with more screenshake. The contrast is very useful in helping to distinguish between sky and enemies. Next, the gameplay has a good feel to it, but the weapons aren't quite as powerful as they should be. It takes quite a few hits to kill something with the machine gun, which makes the gun feel a little under-powered. The mechanic with the planet's life was very nice though. It keeps the game centered in the small area. Overall, this is a very impressive game, especially for your first LD. Well done!
Nice minimal art style! The sound effects added an extra level of polish, but I definitely would have appreciated a bit of music to go along with it.
I did find that the balance was a bit off (I'm pretty sure more than 50% of the damage done to my planet was a result of stray laser beams). Making the player invincible was a cool way to put the focus on the world itself, though I think it would have been nice if colliding with objects directly still had some sort of reaction, e.g. pushing the player around or temporarily disabling them.
Overall, a great little entry!
Minor bug: when the planet finally did lose all of its health, the game froze up for a few seconds and the audio got stuck on a loop before it recovered and showed a game over screen.
Nice game ! I enjoyed it
A lot of fun, and I liked the style. Great job for your first entry, and in 15 hours too! My game is [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/pixelworld) if you want to give it a try :) I've followed you on Twitter too!
Damn I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I really love how powerful and awesome the weapons feel to use. The progression is not really even as in the beginning not a lot happens, and then just at once I felt over run. But the way you made this game feel and look is just amazing and I like it :)
Nice game! I really enjoyed the graphics and sounds. Finally I found a shooter game on this LD, good job!
Aww, I really wanted to play this! Looks hella cool! But does not run in wine (something about cabinet extraction failed)
Lovely arena shooter! I love the giant laser beam powerup, and the idea that you have to protect another entity in the arena while fending for yourself (which seems innovative for an arena shooter).
Nice game, the 1 bit graphics fit the game style pretty good. It feels like it could run on an old console
very good i like it, the mechanics very good upgrade nice and keep this great work up...
I not have Windows but game looks great. Good job!
You have a great concept here. The controls are solid and game play is fast paced and fun. I like the sounds effect and explosions. I love the way you used the sprites and the entire retro feel. The art is very well done. The power ups are a nice touch and they help a lot.
Sometimes it was troublesome having the laser at times as it drained the planet's health quite fast. I like that the ship is invincible, but at times it feels a bit off, like I can fly through whatever I want, it may be a good idea to punish the player (not for too long) for getting hit. I would suggest having the enemies come in waves as it give the player time to recoup, and you can introduce new enemies and such. This is just a suggestion though. It would be nice to have some music as well. :D
Great job! :)
Great game here. I'm amazed that you accomplished this in just 15 hours, good job!
Simple but addictive gameplay. I like it. My score was 2060.
The combat feels good, I like the graphics/aesthetic style and I like the concept of protecting the planet, even though it is a little stressful since the planet is so immobile and helpless! I think I would have prefered if the difficulty ramped up a little faster and that you wouldn't run out of ammo with the laser or missilegun, because if the scene would be even more chaotic or more "difficult", the destruction would feel awesome. Maybe there could be more types of weapons and some of them aren't as powerful, then you can pick them up by "mistake" in the heat of the moment and be forced to use a lesser weapon (a little bit like Downwell, where a powerup is tied to picking up a weapon which might be worse than your current weapon). There is a lot of different ways one can design these games!
Wow this was fun and fast paced! Quite impressed at the time it took you to create it. Well done.
Good and addictive gameplay.
I absolutely love the graphics! Game is fast and addictive. I like how the player is invincible, it gives a great feel.
Is this your own engine ???
