LD38 — A Small World

World Jump by stefvanschie 2017-05-04T14:38:07Z

It works on a Mac! That's always good ;) as @diegoctorguet said, the obstacles are sometimes impossible to pass. The player animation for running seems to be really fast too - it was running at ~60fps so it could just be that the animation was made for 30fps? It didn't take away from the experience though. I enjoy endless runners, and enjoyed this. Good job!

Abaddon by Geckoo1337 2017-05-05T11:49:18Z

I quite like the effect, and the options at the beginning were nice to see. Have a go at [my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/pixelworld) and tell me what you think!

My Purpose by Maldo19 2017-05-04T15:16:05Z

Found it really difficult to navigate back to the home planet. The rest of it worked well, though, and I really liked the audio. Except for the buzzing during the intro text.

Petri World by raincole 2017-05-02T15:39:14Z

Well done, plays really well with no obvious bugs, that's always a plus ;) nice and simple, quite relaxing. My only complaint would be that there's not a lot of interaction - like @spinaljack said!

PixelWorld by Dom Harris 2017-05-05T09:21:58Z

Thanks for the feedback :D @jupiter-hadley I've subscribed and am in the process of watching all the videos I've missed. I love indie games, so having a place to discover good ones is great :) it was also interesting to watch someone else play the game...

@dick-claus multiplayer is on the way! Currently developing that with a friend in my free time.

@philomory I agree, I'm really unhappy with how it plays on a keyboard. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after playing with the controller, though.

@kaisean-games I love the yellow one, it was originally a bug but a brief time of massive destruction was a lot of fun. I really struggled with representing the enemies, I'd had a few early testers say the same. I think I'll have to rethink them.

@maldo19 real enemies were planned, and lava was originally going to take the place of a common hazard, but unfortunately I didn't have time to implement either :( Unbreakable parts is actually a great way to get around players getting stuck, thank you! The map does regenerate when your score is ~5000, which does help with that somewhat, but unbreakable parts should work quite well :)

Bamboo Life by candlesan 2017-05-04T15:03:40Z

I don't really have too much patience with games like this so I didn't play too long, but what I played was enjoyable! Could do with some sound though, in my opinion.

RSV Resourcer by Brandon Diaz 2017-05-04T15:11:30Z

Quite fun once it got started, but IMO it took a little long to do so! I can see why it was necessary, though. Without the intro I'd have had no idea what I was doing ;) looks great, I like the voiceover, and the gameplay was quite satisfying in its own way.

A Giant Hitch by GenericToast 2017-05-04T14:45:21Z

Interesting take on the theme, well put together and nicely animated. Fun once you got the hang of movement, and the minigames were well implemented but in my opinion lasted a little too long. Good job :D

_Save_ by iamteekay 2017-05-05T11:53:44Z

A lot of fun, and I liked the style. Great job for your first entry, and in 15 hours too! My game is [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/pixelworld) if you want to give it a try :) I've followed you on Twitter too!

Small Planets by Tom Raudys 2017-05-05T11:51:53Z

nice game, love the visual style :D it has been said before, but congrats on getting so much done in the time you had!

LD42 — Running out of space

Deadpan Gulch by dwemthy 2018-08-13T19:44:46Z

interesting take on the theme, which is always nice  and nice to see something turn based, too. I loved the character animation, and there were no obvious bugs or anything! The duels were a little easy, though - or maybe I just have incredibly good reflexes? They were easy, but a really nice change of pace and I appreciated them. Overall, really good job! You should be pleased with that

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-13T06:52:08Z

@tinamil I'm sorry to hear that! Unfortunately I haven't found the cause of the audio glitch, so I couldn't fix it :sob: does the jump feel weird because you get an extra one or is it just weird in general? If I put out another version (separate from the compo game) that made it a bit easier, would you come back to it? Thanks for the feedback!

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-13T14:34:14Z

@lefinno @fmproductions @drunkardwolf thanks for the awesome reviews! @talios I'm glad you found the difficulty to be alright, and thank you for the kind review  and I'm happy to hear the post mortem was interesting! I do love a good write-up.

@keppu ah I'll try that, thanks for the tip. I've had a few pointers about the dashing, I'm going to try a few changes and see where I get. Would you be interested in playing a bug fix release? Though I guess if you're not into platformers you might not be  I love that people enjoy the art and audio. I'm way more of a programmer, so it actually makes me really happy that I can do pixel art well enough to outshine the programming side! I'm not really a gameplay programmer, though, which I think has let me down slightly. I clearly need to up my game there

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-13T14:37:43Z

@sharks yeah the WebGL one is hella broken  thanks for giving the mac version a shot, I really appreciate it.

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-13T18:56:03Z

@keppu thanks for that, I fixed the audio glitch by adding silence to the end!

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-13T20:06:58Z

@tinynerd ahh I'm glad you liked it! Yeah there are a couple of minor issues like that  turns out platformers are hard to do in 48h  haha yes, it does seem that way, but I promise I make other games too  though I guess my GGJ game was also a platformer... Okay they might be a bit of a comfort zone

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-14T09:15:29Z

@good-guy-nils I'm glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback! I haven't quite worked out why you sometimes get an extra jump, so I guess it's staying there. I'll make it so the animation plays again when you jump again, though, that's a good point!

@triplefox thanks for the feedback  and I'll look into fixing that, but if you have to mash dash and jump to do it, it's not high up on my priority list  I've had my eye on your game for a while, will be playing it during my lunch break

Slime Escape by Dom Harris 2018-08-22T11:51:00Z

@arron-fowler @erikiene yeah unfortunately there was a bug with the jump audio, it's webgl only though as I put in the description. Fixed in the post-jam version, too!

And there were collectibles planned, where you are in that screenshot is where one of them was supposed to be :slight_frown:

Grid Locked by DrunkardWolf 2018-08-13T11:52:58Z

ahh great job! I love the take on the theme, and even though it's just capsules and spheres the toon shader makes a great impact on the whole look and feel. Good job, great use of time.

Gameplay is goo, I tested a version for you that didn't have a cursor and the cursor make it much easier to work out where your bullets are going!

Audio is nice and punchy.

The only thing I think I'd say was missing would be a leaderboard  excellent job, I'm impressed!

S.P.A.C.E. Module Collectors by AdroitConceptions 2018-08-13T18:19:51Z

Great job for the amount of time you had for it! I love the animation, the particle effects with bullets are excellent and I definitely had fun with it. Controls with an Xbox controller are a bit janky - RB to shoot is a little odd, and I experienced a little bit of drift but I assume that's just down to dead zones  the voiceover was a neat addition!

I will say that the menu needs a little love, though

Blocks by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-08-24T14:49:13Z

Great job for 5 hours, and a neat take on the theme  as everyone else has said, collisions and jumping are a bit odd, but for 5 hours that's fine

Gunning Out Of Space by ytaha 2018-08-14T11:29:15Z

that is a really really strong contender. Congrats! I love the fact that you get less accurate the faster you click, it ties into the running out of space mechanic incredibly well. Shooting is really satisfying, the art is great and the audio works really well. Jeez, I actually can't find a flaw in this. What the hell  I've got this saved and I'll be playing it again when I've got a bit more time

We Need Space! by BigJigglyProductions__ 2018-08-13T19:56:35Z

neat little game, always love seeing proc gen in jams! Good job  the art is lovely, too. And it's one of the more unique takes on the theme!

Void Knight vs PEST by Memel06 2018-08-13T19:18:27Z

Mouse movement feels a bit weird, and I died seemingly for no reason (but I suspect I was close to an enemy and its attack hit me in the same frame it spawned). Nice take on the theme, and I did enjoy the art style, except the main menu was very cluttered and it wasn't immediately obvious that you needed to exit through the giant purple blob! Other than that, it was a great contribution. Good job

Bunny Bazooka by MZA 2018-08-14T13:01:04Z

Enjoyed the mechanics of it, it's a neat little game! I agree with Handle that the tutorial is really clever, good job with that. Audio makes the bazooka really satisfying  I personally don't like the blur in the background, it gives me a bit of a headache to look at

Space Hauler by Keppu 2018-08-13T19:12:26Z

Aha it's an excellent take on the theme! I like the art, too. I find the controls a bit awkward, but that's fine - I'm pretty sure that's how it should be in space  great job! One of my favorites so far, if only because it's a unique take on the theme xD

Space Hauler by Keppu 2018-08-14T06:45:47Z

@keppu it's the physics of them, it's intentional though and makes sense in the game  no need to change them, it just makes it a little more difficult!

Dusk Spirits by Tinamil 2018-08-13T11:47:38Z

Played on chrome, the audio and visuals are really nice. I love the way it looks. Unfortunately I'm awful at this sort of game, and when I got to the boss I got smashed into a wall, pinned there, and then my browser froze  I'm on Chrome on a mac.

Other than that, I feel like the controls could use a _lot_ of work - it feels really slow to me. I didn't beat the boss because of the crash, didn't want to try again because I lost about 5 minutes of my lunch break to it, didn't want to waste time that could be used playing other games! I'll give it another go with the windows build when I get home.

Plasma Destruction Legion by Zombie Virals 2018-08-14T14:37:01Z

I sucked with the slippery controls, sorry  other than that though it's a really fun game, I enjoyed it  I'd suggest maybe making the acceleration/deceleration a little quicker, it was hard to move around. Loved the art, though the ring is a little glaring. Decent inclusion of the theme, but it's been done so much before so unfortunately can't rate you too high there :frowning2:

Bergy Bits by HailBurns 2018-08-13T19:30:21Z

oh wow, I adore those penguins. The animation is absolutely lovely, well done! It's a neat little game, too  so fun to shove other penguins off the edge. It fits the theme, but doesn't really do a huge amount with it, but I'll forgive those penguins

Anxiety by TontonPizza 2018-08-14T11:35:10Z

my first 5 star in mood! Seriously well done with that. I didn't find it particularly fun, but that definitely isn't the point. Love love loved the mechanics, and it was a wonderful take on the theme. You'll get a tweet from me on Twitter for that! Amazing work. Great job!

Shoot O' Space by TinyNerd 2018-08-13T19:01:26Z

Decent enough, the movement controls felt a bit weird though. I have no idea what the blue and red ball were doing, and a lot of the time I died to enemies that I couldn't see coming. Graphics are decent, I'm a sucker for bloom xD though bad choice of font  I'm a bit of a font nerd though so maybe other people don't notice so much. Shame about the interpretation of the theme, I've already played about a thousand variations of "the map is shrinking" so low points on the theme from me. Sorry! It's better when people do unique things with it

Shoot O' Space by TinyNerd 2018-08-13T20:03:17Z

@tinynerd ahh that makes sense, thanks for the clarification! I'll play it again when you update it, ping me if you do!

Sinking by Bungalow 2018-08-14T12:33:56Z

Neat little game, I really like it! We had similar ideas I think  it's not too difficult but there is definitely some challenge there, and I love the fx and mechanics for the wall jump - great job! Art style is nice, too. More bits of the level that used the wall jump would have been excellent. In my opinion, movement was far too slow. Other than that, though, great job! oh and you really should add sound. You say you're no sound designer, but just use randomly generated audio! It works a treat, and adds so much to the experience.

Sinking by Bungalow 2018-08-14T13:59:09Z

@bungalow ahh I haven't played hollow knight yet! Mine was heavily based on the Ginso Tree escape in Ori and the Blind Forest, but then I realised it was almost exactly the same and switched my slow time/dash in any direction for the simpler left/right dash I've got now

Sinking by Bungalow 2018-08-14T14:25:18Z

@bungalow ahhhh I'd highly recommend it, it's beautiful! Celeste is awesome, too. My game is essentially a cross between the two. Haha yes exactly! But I did want to be a little bit creative  Really, you think my game looks better than yours?! I loved the art style you went with!

Headspace by Jaydek 2018-08-14T11:45:12Z

I really liked the use of the theme, but otherwise it was a little boring  the art was nice, I especially loved the clouds. Someone else mentioned the similarity to a certain tutorial, but the use of the theme was good and it set a nice mood. Good job

Progression || Degeneration by JustinSix 2018-08-13T11:31:55Z

@justinsix it was a neat concept, but like it's been said before the movement is a bit slow and the acceleration/deceleration makes it feel like you're on ice, which is frustrating! The controls need to last longer, maybe put them on the floor of the first room, like Isaac does? The enemies were great, good job with that! The spikes on the floor weren't immediately obvious to me, I get that it's programmer art but a little more contrast would be good - maybe make them on a black/darker background so it looks like it's a pit? Music is good, well done for getting that in! The floor of the rooms makes them look walled off, it took me a while to work out that I could just walk over it - I was waiting for it to let me through!

I'd definitely play a finished version, though! Good job

Padundle by LSD 2018-08-14T11:24:21Z

that's a really neat mechanic, I'm really impressed with that  looks awesome, too, and you've put in some effort to the menus and things as well - it's not just the default stuff. It's a bit challenging to get the hang of, but I really like it. Well done!

Doom Tower by Bensbuff 2018-08-13T19:36:23Z

Simple game, does the job quite well. I could fire as fast as I could click the mouse, so I was never under any threat  the only times I died were when I first loaded the game and got killed by a shuriken immediately, and when I explored what the edge does  overall the gameplay was very satisfying. Camera shake and decent SFX definitely go a long way! good job!

Exhaustion by Koala Squad 2018-08-14T11:41:16Z

@koala-squad great job! Lovely little game, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's an interesting take on the theme, but it definitely works. I think you need a way to access the next bit of tutorial text, I might just be a quick reader but it felt like I was waiting forever for it to start! Good job though

Alchemist Dungeon by hexkritor 2018-08-24T14:41:13Z

A really charming little game. I loved the graphics, and the use of the theme was pretty cool. Great job :) I'll have a go with the post-jam version later :D

Trumpet by jlelez 2018-08-14T12:47:49Z

Okay I love the graphics. The graphics are amazing  there are some neat mechanics there - it would be nice to see them fleshed out a bit  it was a fun little game, good job xD

Crate Chaos by TaliOS 2018-08-13T19:24:23Z

loved it, really well done! Great amount of challenge, there was an actual menu and the font was decent  neat take on the theme, and wasn't scoped too much so you polished it really well. Great job!

Space Saver by Lefinno 2018-08-13T11:39:58Z

Visually looks awesome, great job with that! And the sounds are amazing, though it would be nice if you varied them a little bit as it gets pretty repetitive. I love the idea, too, really neat take on the theme. I really don't think the controls are particularly intuitive, which is a shame. I'm also on a trackpad so scrolling was a pain

All in all it was a good game, I'll play it again when I'm on my home PC but good job

Return of the Sea by coolDude38 2018-08-13T12:15:50Z

Neat game! Once I figured out what I was doing...

I did unfortunately have a few issues :slight_frown: the text is very small, and I feel like you could've put a bit more effort into the UI as a whole.

There's a lot of text, which I'll admit I didn't read very much of! That made it much more confusing to actually play, so I had to go back and reread it, which I had to refresh the page to do.

I didn't seem to be able to place except on tiles where I’d already placed something, and something more to say when you can't click something!

The art is fine, it could really do with some audio though.

Well done

LD44 — Your life is currency

Blood Money by Dom Harris 2019-04-30T07:03:23Z

@ace17 the levels are completely random, that is intentional! It's procedurally generated 😊

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I'm working on a polish build now to address all the issues šŸ˜‚

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Time Break by Ivan Garcia Filho 2020-10-06T13:44:07Z

Visually, it looks great! I love the way different timelines pop in and out of existence. My only complaint would be that the actual gameplay suffers for being done in such a short period of time  platforming mechanics in a jam are a big enough ask as it is, and your combat is a little bit lacking. I would also have liked to see a menu :grimacing: however, for something that was done in a short period of time, those are **completely** excusable! Good job  oh and the music and sound effects fit the game really well :muscle:

Dangled by ansoneh 2020-10-06T09:07:26Z

love the audio, really great job on that! The gameplay is challenging but SO satisfying once you manage to pull it off. Well done

Loopomotive by Tamas Turi 2020-10-06T08:01:26Z

Really well executed game - good job  the audio is a really nice touch and fits well, though you should really opt out of that category given that you didn't make it  I've used that exact track in jams past :joy:

it's a nice, simple premise that you've polished almost to perfection. Great job! I particularly love the effort you've put in to the UI, it's something that people often miss out during jams.

I can't find anything to complain about :grimacing:

Stuck in a Loop by AdroitConceptions 2020-10-06T12:30:15Z

you know what, I spent way longer here than I was expecting to :joy: it's really satisfying, and looks great. I think a few other people have mentioned it - but the ball being smooth while the loop is faceted *slightly* detracts from the overall look and feel, but that's the only issue I have with it

Caterpillar Cowboy by eldogg 2020-10-06T11:18:55Z

okay I don't think I've ever given straight 5 stars to any jam game but that... That is perfection. I can find no faults. As soon as I thought "I wish I could become a butterfly and fly around", that wish was granted. Next time I should wish for something more useful like a new house  tl;dr this game is magical and you should play it

Catch the Loops by drnoir 2020-10-06T10:35:50Z

I agree with the other comments on here, but it's a really neat concept and fits the theme really well! Well done  the audio really adds to the game, and the looping bugs are a neat visualisation of infinite loops :joy: well done

.determinant point by Dmitry Kaidash 2020-10-06T08:45:09Z

Nice interpretation of the theme! I'd agree with the above comment about the soundtrack being a tad repetitive, but other than that it's a great little game and you should be proud

Looper by Maytch 2020-10-06T12:39:36Z

I'm impressed that you managed to get decent-feeling platformer controls done in such a short period of time, well done! The general concept is good, the use of the theme is interesting and it's well executed. I found the music a little boring and repetitive, but that's personal taste I think  the sound effects were great, though

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-06T09:43:57Z

really enjoyed that. The graphics are top notch, really can't find anything to complain about! And the audio is just :ok_hand: loved it. Well done

The Titan's grave by BadPiggy 2020-10-17T15:57:47Z

fantastic little game, well done! I must say, I suck at the timing :grimacing: I will say I found it quite frustrating, in that the timing has to be pretty accurate. Give me a little leeway please  also the audio is **very** grating and the mix isn't great - the sfx are much louder than the background music, and they hurt to listen to  that is a minor nitpick for a jam game though :joy: overall, great job, looking forward to a post-jam version!

Hamster Survival Racing by Carson Bentley 2020-10-06T08:50:42Z

ha neat little game - incredibly difficult, though :joy: I can't beat that other hamster :grimacing: maybe I take a leaf out of some of the other commenters books and kill the competition

My one complaint would be that the background music is a bit repetitive. Other than that, it's a wonderful little game, congrats!

Back And Forth by Kisk 2020-10-06T09:00:53Z

So much polish! I'm really impressed with this (also "f to pay respects" was pretty funny :joy:) it's a nice little puzzle game and really well polished. The graphics are wonderful, and the sound effects are really good. There's a good amount of juice, too. Well done!!

The Death Loop by droei 2020-10-06T14:07:01Z

it's a great concept, and I had fun with it  like JLK said, if you're not using the mouse for anything else, don't make me click the mouse to advance dialog  I think it would be a brilliant game with a bit more time spent on the actual platforming mechanics - I always advise against platforming for game jams, because it's super difficult to get right :grimacing: for reference, Celeste has 1500 lines of code **just** for movement. There's a lot of complexity in good platforming! That said, it's a great take on the theme and it was definitely fun to play. Well done!

Neverending Duck War by Angelee 2020-10-06T12:28:20Z

Presentation is on point, I can't fault it. Deagle did a great job on sound - that quack is :fire: though minor gripe: you should vary the pitch ever so slightly. Other than that, though, it really is a wonderful little game to play and you should be very proud!!

Time Saver by Daniikk1012 2020-10-06T08:28:24Z

Really nice little game - looks great, and the mechanic is cool (good thing I read the comments first or I wouldn't have known how to kill multiple enemies )

my one major suggestion is that you make it really obvious how the game plays. I'm not sure how you'd do that, but overall it was a neat take on the theme and you should be proud!

Looped by Leo Red 2020-10-06T10:46:30Z

overall it's a nice little game, well done! As other people have mentioned, WASD movement would be awesome, as would being able to hold to shoot. Check out some of Vlambeer's talks on GDC, I think they would improve this game about 1000x for basically no effort! this one in particular is good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJdEqssNZ-U

Oops Loops by Samshine 2020-10-06T10:38:56Z

That is delightful, really appreciated the photographs. Neat little game, though could've done with some background music! Maybe a few puzzles, too
