Nice Relaxing Game

chupachu 2017-04-24 02:13

quality game :D

jorbits 2017-05-02 09:27

I liked playing this game. It was fun for quit a while and I got a very efficient farm. farm.PNG

fingamer 2017-05-02 09:37

Very casual and relaxing game! I ended up playing it a lot longer than I had thought. Very good for killing time and such. It's impressive that you got something like this done during a weekend! Very well done!

ysty 2017-05-02 09:37

I really liked the progression, there ended up being a lot of stuff to get for a compo game, and the look was really good. A nice serene game. :)

oxrock 2017-05-02 09:39

Cute game, I like that the panda poops out more flooring :joy:

A bit repetitive for me personally but I can see the appeal for some certainly. Nice compo game.

kasarun 2017-05-02 09:40

Wow, best game played so far for this game jam. Really fun and complete. It would have been nice to be able to move the map because when we reach the screen limits and we want to place new things, we also click on the buttons and create objects that we don't want by mistake.Panda.png

micahcowan 2017-05-02 09:58

This is a straight up amazing game for 48 hour, solo compo! It's a complete and enjoyable level. I really got into automating as much as possible to speed up the bamboo growing process and win me that trophy. Has a "factorio but for gardening" feel!

I'd love to see this developed into a full game. If you ever do, please let me know! micah@addictivecode.org

generictoast 2017-05-02 10:06

Extremely fun and entertaining. I spent more time playing this game than other entries so far. The 'quests' kept me hooked on finding out what item i could unlock next and the automation with the koalas and the blowguns helped the game not feel tedious and repetitive as i did not have to collect the bamboo manually. The models and user interface look really nice too. Combined with the sound effects this makes for a really great game.

croze 2017-05-02 23:53

This game was absolutely fantastic. I really hope you continue developing it post-mortem, you really have something going here. I have zero complaints, 5 stars all around. Untitled.png

simonhutchinson 2017-05-02 23:56

I win!

This was great. Why are games like this so oddly compelling (maybe I should have been a farmer).

Plus, PANDAS and KOALAS together at last!

paulhocker 2017-05-03 03:23

this was very fun - i still have it running in the background so i can get the trophy - great game

jk5000 2017-05-03 07:35

A super relaxing game, that it is really hard stop playing. Well done.

nilead 2017-05-03 09:45

Woah. Impressed with the amount of stuff you end up being able to get here. Really long for a compo game. Reminds me of an old web game about having a garden. Was as relaxing as this one.

zarkonnen 2017-05-03 09:47

This is a really lovely and fun clicker game. When I saw the 1000 bamboo goal, I thought "wait, that's far too much, I can't be bothered". Then I did it anyway, and had fun. I think this has a lot of potential, especially if you can get some cute and juicy sound effects. Only complaint is that sometimes the map didn't zoom out quite enough, leaving tiles underneath the buttons at the top or bottom.

h2n0 2017-05-03 10:02

Really fun game, got into automating as much as I can. Maybe you could add some background music or ambient sounds.Panda.png

devastus 2017-05-04 10:34

This was actually a very enjoyable game, and it's an amazing feat to have done something so entertaining in 48 hours! I mean, balancing and the feel of progression are things that LD games are usually lacking due to understandable reasons regarding time, but somehow you've managed to hit quite a sweet spot.

If I have something to criticize, it would be the camera and how it sometimes doesn't seem to zoom out enough for you to do your expanding without pressing other buttons, which is a bit irritating.

Other than that though, it's a very good game. I'm impressed!

dom-harris 2017-05-04 15:03

I don't really have too much patience with games like this so I didn't play too long, but what I played was enjoyable! Could do with some sound though, in my opinion.

askania-m 2017-05-04 18:04

It's the most satisfying and amusing game for me on LD38. I did my best to transform the small world into a larger one :D Cute pandas and koalas, what may I wish more? :) However, it would be even better, if the shovel could be taken at once. Zooming is also preferable, it didn't function by me. Often it was necessary to change items, but usually a light click was not quite enough. Anyway, I liked it so much and it deserves the best future, great job!

Thanks everybody for the positive feedback so far

@askania-m @devastus @zarkonnen @kasarun I definitely agree about the camera. I worked on some of the camera logic up until the end and then accidentally introduced a bug at the 11th hour :( I'm sorry for any issues it caused for you playing.

@jorbits @kasarun @croze @paulhocker @h2n0 @askania-m thanks for sharing screenshots of your game session! Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside to see everybody enjoying the game. I know with Ludum Dare there are so many games to play and it's flattering to know you showed your interest by taking the time to really play the game but also share what you did with us here on ludum dare.

@askania-m and @croze in particular, you have some nuts bases :)

A lot of folks commented they were impressed to see how much was done. I appreciate this compliment. It's crazy that we can work hard for 48-hours and feel like there's still so much to do sometimes it's easy to just see the flaws in our own games. I stream all of my Compo Ludum Dare game jams on twitch so you can see the development of a game like this from beginning to end, if you're interested I'd appreciate the follow.

madmaw 2017-05-05 08:23

Very compelling entry, if there we a few more mechanics I could play it all day

lurumdurum 2017-05-05 09:34

Pretty good game! I ended up playing longer than I expected! :)

pkenney 2017-05-05 13:45

I enjoyed this, and I don't even play idle games! Maybe I should try some... because this was a cool experience.

The controls were really tight, too, like if I hammered repeated clicks on something that kicked off a progress bar, you didn't ignore my inputs! You queued them up and I got what I asked for. Very important small touches like that count for a lot in my opinion. Also effective: the camera nudging out as I build in a nice way, and the really clear rotate-icons above the animals. This was all very smooth and well done. Even the two humble sound effects were very effective, and the rising pitch of the "grow faster" was nice.

The art is simple, but I appreciated that every bit of it was focused around *transparency*. For example when I read the description of the pool I was uncertain of exactly which squares it would impact. But when I placed one to test, you delivered the goods by having a small watery particle thing float up from the affected squares. That's just one example but I think you have graphical transparency through to every single game rule as far as I can tell - which is excellent.

I really have just nothing to complain about. The trophy came at the right time in the experience so I didn't feel like the game was asking too much of my time for an LD. The only thing I can even think of that stymied me slightly was my mental model of how the koala would work from reading the text. The word "travels" in the description made me think he would walk around, but this didn't matter as I knew I was unsure so I built him near a panda just in case, and it worked out.

Very strong entry with craftsmanship in all the details!

yyam 2017-05-05 15:15

Excellent game! Had a blast playing through it and getting the trophy :) Really nicely done with a lot of polish. I've followed you on Twitter!

mwcz 2017-05-05 16:34

Really nice job on this! I kept thinking "okay, time to go write the review", then going back to the game because it was so fun! The most impressive thing to me was how the game mechanics all worked together so well. I don't know you managed to tune them all so well in such a short time. This isn't a genre I'm usually drawn to, but I had a great time playing!

noddingtortoise 2017-05-05 17:53

Awesome game, I think this might be my favourite so far. Played until I got the trophy, then continued to play more, I think I could play this for hours :-D The graphics are really well done and fit the style well, and the gameplay is excellent and very well balanced. Though it would be nice if you could move the camera around. Overall an excellent game!

hbocao 2017-05-06 01:34

Dude, this is incredible for 48h!

Super fun to play and very addicting. I had a blast playing it because it felt that all the pieces were on its places. Add BG music and released it. Amazing entry.

smiling-cat-entertainment 2017-05-06 03:46

This is a great entry. The graphics are excellent, and the gameplay is excellent. Toward the end, I was thinking, "what's next, a monkey to run around and pick up the soil for me?" This game should definitely go further.

clegamecoop 2017-05-06 21:13

Lol, yeah, apparently there's a boundary on the bottom?? HAHA! Great job!! Literally played this for the past hour or more. Wish there was a unit to auto pickup the "soil". Then you could be in complete autonomy mode!Screen Shot 2017-05-06 at 5.09.22 PM.png

g12345 2017-05-06 22:13

I haven't played a clicker/idle game for a week now, and this one is certainly better than many I've played on Kongregate!

I must say the explanation of the things were not very clear, and I was glad I saw some screenshots here on this page to see how everything worked.

i also wanted to say that at the end my computer was lagging from about 50 soils with growing plants... not sure why it slows down so quickly...

inventroom 2017-05-07 07:54

Bamboo Idler! Here’s the quick rundown of my thoughts:

PROS - Well put-together idle/building game - Creative intepretation of the theme

CONS - Buttons at top can be clicked by accident when trying to build near the top

This is amazing! I was playing it assuming that it was a Jam entry, but when I realized that ONE person had made it in 48 hours, my mind was blown. The mechanics were spaced out evenly, and I was determined to play until the end. I could see this becoming a great mobile game. Amazing work!

rujo 2017-05-09 16:17

wow! that's a solid entry! incredibly polished to be made in such a small time! amazing job!!

toonteamj 2017-05-10 20:57

Your slow progress through the game does a good job of teaching the player how everything works. Its actually a little addictive.

pikopik 2017-05-10 20:59

reminded me intensely of a game I used to play as a kid and that's a good thing

xenosns 2017-05-11 15:07

Super cute and really fleshed out game, good job!

headmade 2017-05-13 00:46

Wow this game was surprisingly addicting. Optimizing the farm layout was fun.

For a compo game it has solid graphics and sound effects. I think for this kind of game it is ok to have no music. It was well made overall.

I would have liked the mouse wheel to switch through the items. Also it would be great if the game kept running in the background.

I did not get how the koalas work, I tried placing them facing bamboo. Only after looking at screenshots here in the comments I got it.

stuntddude 2017-05-14 21:51

I didn't get as creative with by farm as some other people did, but I still found this fun. It's got a lot of content for a jam game already, and I think it could easily be extended to have an even longer progression. I also thought it was very well paced. It didn't drag on for too long or introduce things too quickly. And it looks very cute and friendly, which definitely makes it approachable. Aside from the issue with the camera not zooming out quite enough, it's a good automation game.

creamybacon2 2017-05-15 02:27

I will tell you the truth, I don't like farm simulators, but... but... I had fun with yours! I think it was the pandas. Good job.

yami-no-tenshi-8 2017-05-18 10:36

Best pixel art tool ever !

Really enjoyed it, nice game, nice concept, and good pace ! Only bug I found is when you erase everything, you will not be able to place blocks anymore. Except that, really great work on this compo ! Congratulations !

Cute, fun game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lCZIZXfBmw
