That audio glitch on the WebGL version was painful. The jump feels weird, like I'm getting a jump from landing whenever I just go near a platform rather than landing on it. Also, after I died 4 times in a row going through the second portal because I always was going right after hitting the portal and that immediately walks me off the ledge on the other side, I gave up.
@tinamil I'm sorry to hear that! Unfortunately I haven't found the cause of the audio glitch, so I couldn't fix it :sob: does the jump feel weird because you get an extra one or is it just weird in general? If I put out another version (separate from the compo game) that made it a bit easier, would you come back to it? Thanks for the feedback!

The art style is great, Love that cute little slime. The control is great, abit slippery and slimey, the double jump adds quite alot, maybe limiting the number double jumps and dashes will be better to the gameplay, It's great overall.

Overall a good experience, the leaderboard really motivated me to get a better time! It is very annoying that the timer isn't reset when you die, and the controls feel wonky still + the collision behaviour could be better. In general, the base of the game and the art is pretty good though, considered the time you used to make it.
Great game, played it in the GDU discord yesterday, but it feels a lot better now. Still quite difficult, but definitely a lot more manageable than it was. Art is still amazing. Definitely a game that you should continue working on :)

This is a pretty cool game ! I only had real trouble with one part (the long fall with the spike at the bottom) so I'd say the difficulty was all right ! Also your post mortem is super interesting ! It's a strong entry overall !

For the audio glitching, you could try setting small part in both end of the audio file to be silent. I've gotten over some similar audio issues in the past.
OK, lets review!
I'm not by default into platformers, so my review is therefore biased.
Difficult as hell, but we are in hell right? Dashing on the right spot is difficult to predict. I couldn't get too far with this came. I feel that the jump needs to be higher and more floaty, but that's just me who is bad at platformers. :)
Rising lava gives immediate goal of not getting horribly burned, tying this game with the theme.
Graphics are pretty as well as the animations and particles. Lighting adds surreal and dreamlike touch. I feel everything is kind of tasty and sugary.. Hmmm, yummy..
Music fits with the cutesy graphic style being as sugary and upbeat.
There's not much humor here so I leave that unrated.
Overall graphics, audio(-glitching) and graphics are the strong force here. Other areas need work.

OH GOSH. I played the WebGL version. MY EARS ARE FRIED. I'm gonna try the mac-osx version.

I enjoyed the game, some parts were a (little) hard but overall great game. I like the graphics sounds and the overall feeling of being rushed. Nice job.
@lefinno @fmproductions @drunkardwolf thanks for the awesome reviews! @talios I'm glad you found the difficulty to be alright, and thank you for the kind review  and I'm happy to hear the post mortem was interesting! I do love a good write-up.
@keppu ah I'll try that, thanks for the tip. I've had a few pointers about the dashing, I'm going to try a few changes and see where I get. Would you be interested in playing a bug fix release? Though I guess if you're not into platformers you might not be  I love that people enjoy the art and audio. I'm way more of a programmer, so it actually makes me really happy that I can do pixel art well enough to outshine the programming side! I'm not really a gameplay programmer, though, which I think has let me down slightly. I clearly need to up my game there
@sharks yeah the WebGL one is hella broken  thanks for giving the mac version a shot, I really appreciate it.

@dom-harris Np!
The art is great. the music is also nice. I like the leaderboard, managed beat the level in around 22 seconds. Overall good game.
the pixel art is cute but still very readable. the WebGL jump click sound hurts the ears hard. couldn't figure out how to jump after falling in the spot were you have to fall then dash left. jump, nor dash seemed to respond if I just fell.
@keppu thanks for that, I fixed the audio glitch by adding silence to the end!
Oh this game is really cool, i like when you assume the difficulty with no checkpoint

This is great! Fun and enjoyable experience overall. I think this game has some great potential. I do experience some sort of well, very minor bug where when walking, the animation stops and the slime will float a little bit. :v: But really, the gameplay is just great. Straight to the point and simple controls. I like the dashing feature; although not unique, still manages to separate the game from other generic platformers. Maybe next time, (After looking through your other game) as a tip: Try NOT to make another platformer. Or.. try playing around with 3D. After all, Ludum Dare is about going out of your comfort zone.
@tinynerd ahh I'm glad you liked it! Yeah there are a couple of minor issues like that  turns out platformers are hard to do in 48h  haha yes, it does seem that way, but I promise I make other games too  though I guess my GGJ game was also a platformer... Okay they might be a bit of a comfort zone

The art and music are both fantastic. The gameplay is a bit unforgiving, since it pretty much requires you to know what's coming next to beat it. And maybe the jump could've had a bit more float to it, but I got used to it after dying a few times. It also would've really benefited from a retry option that reset the timer, to make leaderboard climbing easier. Overall, great job, I really enjoyed it!

@dom-harris Glad you got the audio glitch worked out. Yeah, I'll test the bug fix release for sure.
I liked this game there is something weird with the jump I pretty like the fact that u get an extra one but it don't fit fine with the animation of jump. Overall I had fun playin your game :)
It's possible to clip into walls when I mash the dash and jump buttons. I really like speedrunning games though, I'm glad you did one!
@good-guy-nils I'm glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback! I haven't quite worked out why you sometimes get an extra jump, so I guess it's staying there. I'll make it so the animation plays again when you jump again, though, that's a good point!
@triplefox thanks for the feedback  and I'll look into fixing that, but if you have to mash dash and jump to do it, it's not high up on my priority list  I've had my eye on your game for a while, will be playing it during my lunch break
I am really bad with platformers xD Your game is really beatiful, I like the glowing portals and character. I found the dash hard to use on keyboard, but as I say my skills at this genre of games are about inexistent... But I kept trying until the end!

Great game! Sound effects are just right (although I also had the click/chirp at the end of the jump sound when I played, but nm) and the music fits well, even if it is a slightly short loop. The graphics are really nice and the controls are smooth. I'm terrible at platform games, so I can't do a speedrun, but I had fun playing. Top work!

Everyone's saying the jump is weird, so I am not repeating that, The pixel art is top notch, I like the audio, it was a really cool experience. I really like it.

I really like the graphics, audio matches too. Very well executed game! :D
die too many times for trying. there is a lot of trial and error. but, managed it after 9 deaths and 63 seconds, I have reached the top.
it is a fun platformer and I think you can do a lot more of it. maybe some different levels for the hardcore platforms under this game. instead only have a challenge mode. :P

It took me 30 deaths to realise that precision platformers are not for me. Concerning mechanics: I thought they were good. Perhaps start with an easier level to help the player get to grip with things. Cool game nevertheless.

Very Cute, Very fun. The jump sound got a little old but not to bad. Wish it would save at each portal. Some of the later jumps were difficult for me and starting over from scratch was a pain.
Loved the art style. The character feels great to control while moving and jumping, but I had some trouble using the dash. The hardest part for me was right after the third portal, but I managed to get better at it through some trial and error.
I liked the sound effects in the fixed version but unfortunately I had to rate it a bit lower because the fix was submitted later. Overall, a very enjoyable entry.
Great job! I love the art style! I do wish that it wasn't so madenningly impossible though. If you had a little slower of an approach to the harder sections, that would help a lot. The music is alright, along with the SFX. Overall, great job!
Cheers! - The Koala Squad
The game plays really smoothly, and it looks amazing. Unfortunatelly I could not get past the third level, I kept getting impaled by the spikes. The atmosphere was really good. (Edit: I just realized you can dash...)
I really really like this one.
Great entry!

Yeah, definitely has some SMB feels in the difficult platforming, but it was really enjoyable. The colour change on the slime makes a huge difference and helped clear up initial confusion about portals and really helped the visibility of the player out a lot in the scene.
The controls felt a little sticky at times, but with a bit of practice and some frustration, it's possible to not keep getting thrown out of a portal right into spikes every time :p

The game is amazing, especially the fact that it's a compo game. Deserves at least top ten in the end. The graphics are amazing, the controls feel great, but the animations didn't seem to play right away, but that is easily forgiven by the great gameplay and atmosphere! Awesome job!! :)

A really nice game! Spent some time getting 3rd place on both modes. The only complaint I have is that dash could be improved. You can't use it on the ground and can't cancel out of it with a jump. Adding those features would make movement MUCH smoother. Some of the collisions also seemed clunky but it's fine for a LD game. I really liked this game! Keep making more!
The theme wasn't too present though.
(Also you can triple jump but you description only says double jump)
Love your graphics. Your audio seemed awesome, but the glitch is pretty hard. It seems you spent many time on your level design, it's well done, but quite difficult at the start. Good Job !

I really liked the challenge of the game, but I seem to be really bad at it and it took me a long time to get the hang of the controls. The graphics, sounds and gameplay are great, the only improvements I'd like to see is to reset the timer when you die and a better explanation/usage for the dash as I didn't find myself usin it much.

Pretty basic platformer, I really liked that shader tho!

The slime always moves left even if no keys are pressed. Any ideas how to fix that? (UPD: It's a vjoy issue. fixed on my side.)
There is a place where you can sit and reset the jump/dash:

Nice Stuff! I can see the time and effort that went in here for a weekend! Thx!
So frustratingly fun! You really put a lot of work into this over the weekend, and after playing a couple test builds over the weekend, then playing the jam version, I am very impressed and proud of you. You made a game that actually caused me to rage quit(do to my own lack of skills at it). I'm determined to pick it up and get better at it today, but right now all I have to say is.. Congratulations!! I really don't have much to criticize about it honestly. If something comes to mind on my second go of it today, I will let you know :)

Simple idea with a nice execution. The levels are treacherous, which combined with no checkpoints makes the game a bit frustrating, since you can't re-try the moment you died on - you have to go all the way from the beginning. But I like that, it makes the game more of a hard-core challenge. The music is nice and the visuals create an enjoyable atmosphere.
I thought this was an interesting entry. I was compelled to get further each play and it certainly kept me gripped. The jump sound mad an unpleasent tweet each time it was used that ultimately stopped me playing. It became unbareable. Apart from that I thought it was great.

I'll start with the only negative - as with the above comment, I too was more and more annoyed by the jump sfx.
Now for the good stuff - amazing graphics, this is something that you would expect from a team of experienced devs who worked on the game for at least 3 months, not 3 days! I definitely enjoyed it being challenging. The only thing that left me sad was not finding hidden areas or easter eggs or something in places that look like they should contain such things due to being unnecessary and hard to get to (e.g. start of game, see screencap below). Great work, man! 2018-08-22 01_07_26-Clipboard.png
@arron-fowler @erikiene yeah unfortunately there was a bug with the jump audio, it's webgl only though as I put in the description. Fixed in the post-jam version, too!
And there were collectibles planned, where you are in that screenshot is where one of them was supposed to be :slight_frown:
Nice platformer game. Looking for new levels and modes in future
Really solid platformer! I loved the aesthetics. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 3:10 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299925225
