Very enjoyable game , just did a short initial play video of it which I will upload soon.
Video review and play of game https://youtu.be/-EYXs31kKlM?t=17m
Cool will take a look in a bit
I like the concept even though it is a familiar one, and I though the game was well executed and offers some replay value due to the different difficulty modes, and the core game mechanic. Graphics were also well done, esp liked the particle FX and glow FX.
Video review here at 0:00 https://youtu.be/4xvWzFL3Kp8
Love the meta joke of this, done a video of my playing it too will be online shortly, brill!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EYXs31kKlM&t=2s video review of this here - I really enjoyed it one of the funniest
funny concept, however I couldn't complete it as the last cats seemed to be walled off in an area that was impossible to access and I think it needed some sound FX for fire to really make me panic more. The end was quite funny but you had a few spelling mistakes and I think you could add more to this to make it more polished. Cheers, done a video review of this too will post up shortly. (Doing a few initial play reviews)
Had a look at it here at 18:10 https://youtu.be/4xvWzFL3Kp8
Hello done a video review of your game https://youtu.be/Jo5VgMO3sR8
@illabom No worries, enjoying seeing how creative everyone has got with the theme, and I enjoyed your game. Keep doing it.
Just played this, It's a very funny idea and an original one too - I thought the graphics were really nicely done and the FX for the various drugs and of the various drugs provided many belly laughs hahah, it's a solid short game with some replayability too.
The game mechanic is simple but provides some variation and randomness so it is a game I imagine you can just flit on for a bit when you want some amusement. If I had a criticism I would say some of the spelling is off on some of the text, though I think at times this was intentional given the players state. Overall a really enjoyable little game with some amusing scenarios and outcomes from your drunken / high / trippy decisions
Ahhh you are not native English speakers, it didn't distract too much and the mistakes were pretty minor to be honest (I make a few of my own still often haha) but yes I enjoyed your game and think it was very fun and interesting. Almost a kind of mix of a so-called 'serious game' and an amusing one.
ahaha really enjoyed that, top score of 2028 on the 2nd round, funny concept and well made.
Vid and review of playing it here https://youtu.be/-EYXs31kKlM?t=10m28s
@davidvallee42 No worries, all I noticed were a few graphical clipping issues once but it didn't ruin the experience. Fun game, in the vein of The Sims etc, liked the randomness of who came in too ahha , really funny concept.
A fun game, just wish it had a multiplayer mode! I.e so you can play your mates online too! But yeah gonna save this one and see if my housemate wants to play it sometime. I enjoyed the graphics - well done. 8-bit Retro style, and the concept was an amusing one I'm sure to anyone who's ever been in a band hahaha
Hello I just played this for 15 minutes in Chrome and I really enjoyed it, reminded me of classic Bullfrog Titles like Theme Park and Dungeon Keeper, albeit with a lighter mood than the latter.
I thought the graphical style was slick and well presented and the UI / UX was smooth, and felt seamless and light. I felt it had a deceptively simple game mechanic on first play, and it has real replay value, I found myself wanting to play it more and explore more of what the mechanic delivers when you develop the town to a certain level.
It was surprisingly easy to lose relatively fast on the first play I found but once I understood what the game was about it became very intuitive and enjoyable. A really slick and fun game which I would play again.
Ok so just played a few mins on this, and I will start with some positive before I offer some constructive crit - I think the concept for this, is great and a very interesting one, not often explored in games, which is good, and a mark of an interesting mind at play.
However with the game I struggled to get far, there is no audio as far as I can tell which it would benefit from to increase atmosphere, some of the spelling is off (but you are young I think so I don't want to be toooo harsh with that, you should of seen my spelling when I was younger and even now sometimes! haha), the game also crashes for me to the main menu when I die / fall.
I don't want to be harsh but I think you could improve this but I think this is a good idea that could be developed much further. The initial bath area could also be made to have more features such as mirrors etc.
Excellent, keep at it, every game is a learning process and you're always going to find things to fix, I found it tough today though enjoyable as well, nice one!
Press E to move to start moving around , that might be the different resolution for titles, should be able to fix that today.
Are the other title pages loading correctly? hmmmm
hmm not sure what would cause that, are all the game files unzipped into the same directory. Weird , will look into it
I have fixed the titles issue, just missed adding in those image files in that dir. Only had 6 hours on this so invariably one or two oversights.
@chonglee Try running in Admin mode, did you get any message when it crashed?
Wanting to compile a list of bugs to fix, cheers
@dlaha I have fixed that minor issue now, literally forgot that dir for the images - have to resize for each resolution. Will be updated version asap on Itch.io
@dlaha Fixed the title issue, sorry for the oversight... Titles should work now.
@chong-lee You have to press E to start the game
Yeah there's an AI bug in the engine and didn't have the time to program an AI engine in 6 hours hahah but in line to be fixed next, either from the engine update or if I get time to find the bug in the scripts. Cheers for looking regardless
@mowztouch did you enjoy the setting or idea though? AI will be fixed soon
@poorwill yeah it's an issue with the engine that is due to be changed in the next update - due soon
Lesson learned - Unreal Engine next ledum Dare hahaha. GameGuru is alright though for a really last minute entry. Enjoyed this, might well expand on the concept at a future point.
Cheers @illabom late to the party so did this in 6 hours. Am planning on fixing the bugs over the next few weeks, the AI might be fixed with the engine update that is due soon, so should be able to get a fresh exe up in a week hopefully. Basically seems GG team broke some of the AI engine with last update. Found out at last minute, facepalm ensued!!
Taking a look at your game @illabom
Ahhh thanks @furet yes the dying in water is a weird feature of the engine I used, and one that is penned to be changed in a future update I think... Glad you enjoyed it, I would of added some more sounds and probably triggered more a more interesting variety if I had more time, but did started Ludum Dare about 13 hours before the deadline so just ran out of time on a lot of things.
@furet My background apart from programming / web development is in level and terrain design for Unreal and GG so most of my efforts went into that, glad you enjoyed it, cheers
Cool, yeah spent most of last night till 4am trying to fix the AI for real, not sure why they freeze randomly and it's gutting. Aiming to get a 1.2 release out with a fix for the AI, might have a go at it again today. I think the AI issue is something to do with the pathfinding or the fact that zombies are grouped together somehow but it is still a mystery. Apparently according to the GG forums, Zombies have dodgy AI scripts or are prone to errors, so I should of chosen a different set of enemies! ahh well what can you do... Yeah I put a few crossbows in the map to add some diversity to gameplay
@neecko cheers I am currently redesigning the game to include different enemies and with multiple levels. I made the game in 6 hours so the enemies were selected relatively randomly, the next version will have different enemies and the mushrooms will be tied in with your health too - to give the player an extra incentive to collect them too beyond just finding them all.
I enjoyed this game a lot, for something made in 72 hours it was seriously impressive! Loved the paradoxical layour and simple puzzles, only thing I would say is it needs more sound / music. I livestreamed it before on Twitch will share on here shortly :) One of my faves so far
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297110828 should be watchable on this link- last game I play
Quite fast paced and fun following a Retro Action RPG formula of maze and shoot and pick up items, graphics are simple and stylised and do the job - somewhere between minecraft and aforementioned classic RPG, gameplay is simple and fast paced shoot and grab items / find keys etc. However I found when I found the exit the game didn't provide any kind of ending apart from a message saying you found the exit which was a bit underwhelming.
Still it was fun for what it is.
@dom-harris Played it here on this stream https://youtu.be/S_05me6a-_U
I really loved this, couldn't get past 10 but didn't want to stop trying, streamed it on twitch will send link once its up on YouTube
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297110828 streaming playing it here
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/297110828 Live streamed playing this earlier - just before the last game I play, I like the game but wish it had sound. However it had some really nice graphical elements, and followed the theme well, seemed quite ambitious in scope.
@bitofgold Pizza Machine hahaah it's a sample from Short Circuit in fact I think of a character going "it's a machine" thanks for feedback :) I didn't really have time to think of things like that doing the dev process as it's such as quick working cycle but sometimes the small things can count, the robot models were an asset pack I bought as I was working on my own on this one and lack decent 3D Modelling skills to do it justice.
@knmec Cheers for feedback, I did try and make the Mazes as challenging as possible but didn't have a great deal of time to build them, however I will probably rework them given more time, add more detail make them less bland as it were, make them look more authentically 'robot' too. I did tweak the visuals a lot but also didn't want to get lost doing it so that I ran out of dev time
Thanks for the comments everyone. Don't forget to rate! Not at the twenty point quite yet.
Some development news - I managed to port this across for my android phone last night so further devlopment will include refining and perfecting it then hopefully realeasing it as an app on playstore.

Managed to beat it! Cool little game, live streamed playing it on twitch will link up in a bit, good fit for the theme, and I liked the audio is it somehow generative?? It seemed sort of random like it was generative and not a theme song looping
@chocolat-endive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQWieHbyFmQ the vid is here, you are first game streamed :)

The graphics and FX of this game were really well done and helped create an atmosphere for the game, in terms of the gameplay itself I liked how it started with some mysterious voice talking to you and encountering some strange visual effects as you move close, however the main gameplay could of been better, you had to slay 30 characters in a square room but it could be better as they don't attack, you just run around and attack until all are dead. However the author states this is a demo and its a good start of something. The player model is particularly impressive. The enemies could be made into something else I think. The sound FX were minimal but effective. The controls were ok but I had to refer to the starting guide to understand how to swing my sword. This could be made more simple - I think a simple right mouse click would suffice for this. But good effort and great graphics!
Ok just downloaded and played this game, and good things first it looks really really nice - a dark oppressive atmosphere with some reflective surfaces and interesting 3d environment as well as very good use of typography to further emphasis the Mayan feeling, in the intro. However the gameplay let me a bit stumped, I clicked on two doors in the first room and then saw some smoke and then a black screen then nothing more, and this is as far as I can get after trying the first level a few times, so I am a little confused as to what I am supposed to do next. The sound FX are also worth mentioning they are creepy and suitably Mayan. Visually it blends the new and the old in an interesting way and you can see how it could be a great game if there is more time to develop the gameplay.
ahhh I missed there was an inventory, will replay it now I know this!
Ok so I replayed it and it does get more interesting when you have access to the inventory, going further through the game also showed how important sound design is to the game and it does create a spooky atmosphere with all the reverb noise etc
Played it here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/344558693##
This looks really nice will check it out shortly. I also did a narrative game using unreal - vampire cyberpunk game callef nourish nosferatu.
@capnat The freeze screen?
@capnat You mean the interaction for chatting?
@spacemonkey ahhh cheers mate, yes worked a lot on trying to give it atmosphere despite using asset packs (working alone so in the scope of what I wanted to make didn't really have much choice). Yup had to write the dialogue super fast but tried to put a bit of sardonic humour into it. I'm just about to stream for a bit playing some games so will check out your entry.
@johnnyginard Thank you very much!
@firesplash-entertainment yes I want to work on that more myself, but making things work took over as is often the case haha, thanks for playing

This was very slick, I liked the flash animation myself, I thought it worked, I managed to get a score of 12520 before being killed by a swarm of the enemies. Sound and music is also quite atmospheric - music especially is good - sort of dark techno vibes (and looks from the time-lapse like you composed it yourself). The overall mood was quite cyberpunk, and the graphics are well composed and consistent given the time limit.
Really solid effort. The gameplay is fun enough though perhaps a bit repetitive, was there any purpose to being able to aim up and down?? But apart from that, well done!
The god on the right is a real mardarse hahaha took me a while to get him to even be meh ahah, seems like his is the harder to please god. I like the idea of this but feel it could be given more controls, more actions etc and it would become more interesting as a game later on in its development if you choose to do more on it. Graphics wise the player looks fairly good, and the gods as emoji's is quite clever but the ground looked a bit glithy when I played it. Sound wise the ohhhhhahh of the gods is good, but it would be good to get different sounds based on different emotions from the gods. Overall I like the idea. Maybe you could give the player hints at good actions and made it somehow 'coded'? Like you see a quarter of the movements they approve of but not all.
I really like the graphics on this one, really interesting lo-fi look, sound fx were also sort of retro, only thing is I am not exactly sure how it fits the theme of stuck in a loop but I didn't play it till the end so maybe it becomes more apparent as you play - a pretty original entry though for the graphics style especially
cheers yeah the collisions are a bit hit and miss at the min but hopefully will improve them later , its a jam entry though not a compo only finished it off this morning haha
Yup I need to sort the bounding boxes a bit so that collisions are smoother for bug catching (I messed a lot with tweaking this but it was hard to get right) Thanks for feedback so far , appreciate it. I might patch it in the next few days if I get a chance
It's done with playcanvas game engine which has a cloud based editor for creating enviroments etc, for the scripts themselves - I cut corners in a few places (the fps controller is basically a copy of the playcanvas tutorial one for example) and re-used some scripts with modifications that I had written before for side projects in playcanvas as well as referring to other projects to remember how to do something in playcanvas, but I did do all the coding, design etc myself yep.
The sound is from the opengameart site - SciFi FX library I think. I will look to tweaking the game later on, but now its the working week and I have work to do, so either one day this week or the weekend.
Released a patch which should improve the collision issues
Thanks @namidasai I am planning to build on this post jam, thanks for your comment
This is an interesting interpretation of the theme, influenced somewhat by the Egyptian concept of the weighing of the heart I guess? I liked the replayability with different audience members but not sure if there ever is an ending of some sort or perfect combination that unlocks and ending. Graphics are consistent in style and for what they are quite nice especially the characters - would of been good to perhaps have portraits for the crowd members as well I think. Overall an interesting spin on the theme.
haha this was fun and I like the nod to the myth of Sisyphus in the title - gameplay was intuitive took me a little while to figure out the concept but it was pretty easy to figure out after a few mins what was going on. I overall think it fits the theme very well, graphics are functional , perhaps would of been better with more background and fx / sound but overall a fun little game.
A fun arcade style game , would of benefited from sound effects I think as well, but overall pretty good, the graphics with the glow style enhance the otherwise simple style and give it that retro arcade style.
Interesting contemporary spin in a fantasy context , good art style. Funny content as well, I like the satirical nature of the 'newts', I've only played it once so far but be interesting to see how replyable it is after a amount of time, though it seems the developers have a lot of 'newts' the game draws from. I think an interesting take on the theme too.
Fun arcade style game, with some replayability (I wanted to find out if I could 'beat it'), matches the theme well, graphics are simple but ok enough though I think if you wanted to further it it would benefit from some characterisation, also personal preference but I think this is a game which would benefit from some music or more sound effects, the sound effects as they are are fine, classic arcade game sounds, Overall though a nice simple game which is easy to play and hard to beat.
This is a really nice concept - thinking three dimensionally in 2d, I like the art style too, and the way it manages to introduce you to the game mechanics gradually, I really like the mechanic of spacebar and then teleporting to the opposite side, means you have to think laterally to beat it, so far I have managed to grab I think 4 of the spaceship parts. The galaxy that swirls lightly in the background is a good visual effect too. Overall a really solid entry.
The gameplay is hard but it is well executed and a very original idea, also I like how the music helped ramp the tension up, once I played it a few times I started to get the knack of it, streamed it on my twitch. https://www.twitch.tv/noirvortex
Hahaha loved it, streamed playing it on twitch. Love metal.
Played it on twitch here, enjoyed it! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/253784053
@jfraser314 cheers, I presume you mean Mistress of the Wastes? hahah Yeah you are right, I should of modded the music a bit. It is meant to be tongue in cheek, though with a certain creepy element. Having some trouble getting on streams, apparently a bit too rated M for a lot of them hahaha
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes there are some UI/ audio fixes I need to do, I had to rush that part at the end of the compo so had to leave it preety much half done hahaha. But will fix it up in a later version and indeed make the end point a bit more intuitive as many people have made that mistake.
Yes the sound element needs fixing, thanks for your comments everyone who's added more today. I will see to fix the sound issues, I know why it happening but I didn't have time to fix it before I submitted for the compo - just need to force stop the audio in the blueprint, but I was juggling too much else at the same time haha. Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad people are freaked out by the concept and like the 3D environment as I did put a lot of effort and thought into that within the timeframe. Yes Unreal files can often be larger and given more time I would have had more time to compress it down and trim baggage that wasn't required but as it was was withing minutes for submission (had a last minute random packaging error from a plugin which I wasn't even using)
Some of the audio distortion is intentional - but the overlapping sounds is something that needs to be resolved. The mistress of the wastes and the random turtleneck guy are distorted and randomised on purpose, that is why he is random and she is just a demon so given the old demonic weird pitching. The idea was maximum disorientation was the reason really haha but the overlapping sounds are making the game experience less polished so intend to fix that.
@Indie Gaming Ahhh wicked nice surprise to see that this afternoon, Thanks for playing, it's interesting to see how people approach the game differently, think I need to implement better signposting for the player but didn't have time to fix audio issues in the 48 hours build timeframe. Regardless thanks very much for playing! Will subscribe on YouTube,
