LD46 — Keep it alive

Hextayin' Alive by alareo 2020-04-22T12:53:44Z

Thank you all! We really appreciate your comments, as they'll help us to improve our future designs.

Almost all of you agree on the need of more explanation at the start of the game. That's right, we would have liked to add some kind of tutorial, but we run out of time. We mistakenly thought that getting the hang of the rules by trial-and-error would be easier. Maybe the simplicity of the gameplay confused us. :shrug_tone4:

@pie75 Yeah, to make an endless game was an early decision as soon as we knowed the theme (keep -the game- alive). I'm glad you like it and you find it original!

Also to @supercool-guy: yes, you get the point! Maintaining balance leads to an endless game. In regards to running out of viruses, in our hexagonal world they are the only way of increasing death rate. They are needed to avoid an exponential growth of the population that would end any free space in the world. Maybe an idea a little bit Malthusian ^^U but we liked the concept of a game about the balance of an ecosystem.

@hgcummings Thanks! We agree that a lot of depth is hidden under simple mechanics. I am especially proud of this achieve. And yes, the game would definitely have benefited from having different scenarios and configurations.

@the-jahn Using a smaller grid was an idea we thought about. I think it would lead to a more strategic and less arcade-wise game. We'll experiment.

Thank you again! And continue playing. We'll love to know about your experiences with the game.

Flame's Rhythm by Irene Godoy del Pozo 2020-04-25T19:08:49Z

Art and sound creates an impressive atmosphere, but the mechanics are unclear and there is no feedback, so it's hard to have fun with the game. I agree with @luismb55 suggestions. Well done anyway!

Missing Pieces by Abu Sabiq Mahdi 2020-04-21T12:58:12Z

Nice! Great art, and the ambience is incredible. I didn't find it really fun, though.

Viva La Revolution! by WilhelmStein 2020-04-25T19:39:18Z

I agree with those who say that the game is hard to understand at first. More (or more visible) feedback about your resources would have been welcome. Awesome game, anyway!

Mumei by Abid 2020-04-21T20:22:57Z

The game is very polished to be first time in a jam. I absolutely love the sound and the art. Not the most original game, but the concept of keeping alive your sidekick is interesting. Thank you for the game!

Survivalgo by despdair2 2020-04-21T20:30:10Z

Well done! It is simple, but pretty and effective. As a comment, it would have been better if you kept the reset and run buttons away.

I like the idea! but the game is terribly difficult to beat XD

The Eye of Glower-On by UkuleleFury 2021-10-04T13:03:17Z

It's fun once you get it :D Like the idea!

Better Tomorrows by DzejPi 2021-10-05T12:15:45Z

Love the mood of this game. I wasted all the resources from the forest at the beginning, so I couldn't get the 100 bucks at the end :_) I completely bought that the ecological message was intended!

Unstable Adventures of the Space Engineer by Sceef 2021-10-04T13:38:13Z

Gamplay is smooth and simple. The musical atmosphere is great, but it makes it feel like a sci-fi horror game, which conflicts with the funny art of the protagonist. It is true that it lacks some variety, as it soon gets repetitive, and maybe it needs a bit more polishing, but it is a good job for your first jam! Keep going!
