Sadly I have some problems with game. I'm unable to move, only menu is working. And in "about" section I see only clean page: about.png

drnoir 2017-12-05 13:21

Press E to move to start moving around , that might be the different resolution for titles, should be able to fix that today.

drnoir 2017-12-05 13:21

Are the other title pages loading correctly? hmmmm

wolfo 2017-12-05 13:32

http://puu.sh/yzQVj/1bada95068.png Can't start the game.

drnoir 2017-12-05 13:38

hmm not sure what would cause that, are all the game files unzipped into the same directory. Weird , will look into it

chong-lee 2017-12-05 23:30

For me it crashed after the main menu. I couldn't walk for a while and then it stopped responding.

drnoir 2017-12-05 23:40

I have fixed the titles issue, just missed adding in those image files in that dir. Only had 6 hours on this so invariably one or two oversights.

drnoir 2017-12-05 23:41

@chonglee Try running in Admin mode, did you get any message when it crashed?

drnoir 2017-12-05 23:41

Wanting to compile a list of bugs to fix, cheers

drnoir 2017-12-05 23:42

@dlaha I have fixed that minor issue now, literally forgot that dir for the images - have to resize for each resolution. Will be updated version asap on Itch.io

drnoir 2017-12-06 00:00

@dlaha Fixed the title issue, sorry for the oversight... Titles should work now.

chong-lee 2017-12-06 00:17

Tried it again and had the same problem. After the loading screen comes when it changes to fps mode, the animations play, but I can't do anything. After that something kills me.

drnoir 2017-12-06 00:35

@chong-lee You have to press E to start the game

poorwill 2017-12-06 00:52

There's some balancing yet to be done with the enemies (or the sprint). While sprinting, you can actually avoid every enemy while collecting shrooms and since actually hitting enemies requires you to be dangerously close and almost certainly get hit - quickly running around and snatching the shrooms seemed to be the better option. I died by jumping in the water, thinking there were probably shrooms under water.

mowztouch 2017-12-06 01:02

Almost all zombies were not moving. So it was easy. x)

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:05

Yeah there's an AI bug in the engine and didn't have the time to program an AI engine in 6 hours hahah but in line to be fixed next, either from the engine update or if I get time to find the bug in the scripts. Cheers for looking regardless

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:19

@mowztouch did you enjoy the setting or idea though? AI will be fixed soon

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:20

@poorwill yeah it's an issue with the engine that is due to be changed in the next update - due soon

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:20

Lesson learned - Unreal Engine next ledum Dare hahaha. GameGuru is alright though for a really last minute entry. Enjoyed this, might well expand on the concept at a future point.

illabom 2017-12-06 01:33

a little buggy and graphics could use some polishing but overall very good!

Check out my game if you would like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/virus-detected

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:37

Cheers @illabom late to the party so did this in 6 hours. Am planning on fixing the bugs over the next few weeks, the AI might be fixed with the engine update that is due soon, so should be able to get a fresh exe up in a week hopefully. Basically seems GG team broke some of the AI engine with last update. Found out at last minute, facepalm ensued!!

drnoir 2017-12-06 01:37

Taking a look at your game @illabom

furet 2017-12-06 04:28

Nice environment and colors. I ran around avoiding zombies and just collecting mushrooms. The first weapon occupies a lot of screen space, so I was glad to find the bow and arrow- I could see better and it was more fun to use. I searched everywhere for the last shroom and figured it's in one of the ponds, so I stepped in... and died! There were some nice nature sounds and music, but they started and stopped at odd times.

drnoir 2017-12-06 04:36

Ahhh thanks @furet yes the dying in water is a weird feature of the engine I used, and one that is penned to be changed in a future update I think... Glad you enjoyed it, I would of added some more sounds and probably triggered more a more interesting variety if I had more time, but did started Ludum Dare about 13 hours before the deadline so just ran out of time on a lot of things.

drnoir 2017-12-06 04:37

@furet My background apart from programming / web development is in level and terrain design for Unreal and GG so most of my efforts went into that, glad you enjoyed it, cheers

traak 2017-12-06 17:12

Well, zombies were stuck, so i found the game a bit borring, but when i found the bow, it became the best game ever! Really!

drnoir 2017-12-06 17:48

Cool, yeah spent most of last night till 4am trying to fix the AI for real, not sure why they freeze randomly and it's gutting. Aiming to get a 1.2 release out with a fix for the AI, might have a go at it again today. I think the AI issue is something to do with the pathfinding or the fact that zombies are grouped together somehow but it is still a mystery. Apparently according to the GG forums, Zombies have dodgy AI scripts or are prone to errors, so I should of chosen a different set of enemies! ahh well what can you do... Yeah I put a few crossbows in the map to add some diversity to gameplay

davidvallee42 2017-12-06 18:56

This is nice for a game made in solo AI bugs sometimes yes but not everytimes and i can't say when this is append.

i will look at your game on the next gamejam ;)

neecko 2017-12-10 20:24

I liked your environmental design, but I wasn't sure why I was collecting mushrooms in a medieval forest with zombies. This would be a terrible trip environment ;). I spent more time avoiding zombies than actually fighting them, though the combat was done well. Overall nice job. Mushrooms should give you some cool visuals.

drnoir 2017-12-11 03:34

@neecko cheers I am currently redesigning the game to include different enemies and with multiple levels. I made the game in 6 hours so the enemies were selected relatively randomly, the next version will have different enemies and the mushrooms will be tied in with your health too - to give the player an extra incentive to collect them too beyond just finding them all.

tuzepoito 2017-12-26 15:04

First, I liked the setting and the oppressing atmosphere of the game. As you have stated yourself, it is not obvious that you need to press E to start the game so I got stuck on that for a while. Then the zombies tried to gang up on me, and it was not very easy to attack them since even when I got close they seemed unaffected. Then I think there was a bug which caused all enemies to stand completely still and not attacking, making the game much easier but it kindof killed the thrill. I tried restarting the game but the same problem happened again. Of course, when I got the bow I didn't see much use for it since the enemies did not attack. I eventually completed the game like this even if sometimes it was a bit difficult to keep track of the mushrooms collected, the mushroom count would randomly appear and disappear. By the way, I am not sure how this fits with the theme of the contest.

I also thought the game was quite slow and the loading took a long time even though there isn't so much content.

All in all it's a strange take on a nicey mushroom hunt in the forest. I think the game needs serious optimization on the game engine side.
