I really liked this game. In the last phase I was very surprised and I almost died :D I will definitely play it again and try to beat my time

I really liked this game. In the last phase I was very surprised and I almost died :D I will definitely play it again and try to beat my time
Super cool and fun game. Super eazy to gett into. Love the combination off 2 and 3d graphics
This is one of the best games I've played in this jam. I love the art style so much. The control feels really nice and tight. The shared health bar is an interesting concept. My only complaint is that the 3rd phase can be easily beaten by holding up, right and spamming roll and fire. Overall really good game.
This was a really fun game! Took me 3 tries, and a total of 5 minutes and 51 seconds (on the third try) to beat. The only feedback I have is the music got a little repetitive after a bit, and I didn't really like how the side roll also moved you back a little. I didn't notice it at first, but on the third phase I started to notice it, and it got a little annoying, not too annoying but it was there. Overall, solid game!
Here from the Making Games Together Server. Pretty cool entry. I love the art style especially. Consistent, clear, and appealing. Each stage offered a different challenge and the final form did well at being a test of all the skills.
Phase 3 was to hard for me hahaha. Nice Gam though.I felt with phase 1 and 2 I was able to come up with a strat to defeat it every time, but phase 3 was a little to dark souls for me and I'm not skilled enough for that.
So difficult but so satisfying. The difference between my times on my first and second playthrough were huge as I learned the timing and got into the flow. Got down below 2 minutes but I could easily see myself getting a lot lower with practice. Great job on this Piggy!
This game was secretly made by the creators of Cuphead lol. Jokes aside, it really reminds me of a game called "Titan Souls". I only wish there was a way to change the controls you know? Like left mouse to shoot, right mouse to dodge, WASD to move. Also, the last phase was really hard. Good stuff!
over all fairly good... the last phase that i got to was rather frustrating... as you could only land a few hits per [fairly long] cycle and any mistake would undo all your progress.
I fell off the map in like... 10 seconds..
QUite Difficult, haven't actually beaten it but I can tell I was pretty close.
That ending was spoopy. Good job!
I'm a sucker for billboarded sprites so I loved the graphics. A good example of simple graphic can be turned into something great.
The inputs was a bit diffcult. I wish it was possible to shoot with the mouse and keep the keyboard for the movement.
Unfortunatly the game did freeze for me a few times :(
Great concept and difficulty! This is one I would definitely play more with more content.
This is so super cool!! Reall nice game! reminds a bit of titan souls, except it's not that punishing haha. Really great and polished, the music was a bit annoying from time to time, but not that much. Also it needs a bit more speed for the player IMO... Solid entty, amazing job!
This was a good game, I managed to learn all the patterns my second go.
I enjoyed that! The graphics are really destinct, the idea of sharing a healthbar with the boss is brilliant and while to controlls take a tad getting used to the soules-esque combat does give that feeling of accomplishment ocne you have the dodge timings down =)
I enjoyed this quite a bit! I was definitely stuck in a loop on the last phase until I figured out a winning strategy :) It looked nice, and was definitely a satisfying boss battle. Good work!
The controls are absolutely super tight. They are responsive- and the abundance of actions on screen are kinda perfect. Enough to be low-end paying attention, but not so much as to be hella distracting.
Colors are perfect. SFX are easy to listen to- no complaint.
I would love to see many levels not just the 3.
Excellent jam entry.
very nice work! perhaps a little repetitive, but really fun!
The controls are really nice in this game, it took me a moment to grasp them but then they were almost second nature. I liked the back and forth health system. The music felt a little bit repetitive and a lighter sound on the bow fire would make it a little less sharp on the ears. A good game overall.
I did find a bug where I think I rolled backwards at the edge of the map and also got crushed by the fist and ended up falling through the level very slowly
The art style instantly grabbed me! Interesting attack patterns!
Phase 3 was more like a war of attrition, since he could only really be damaged during one of this three attacks. My fingers started to hurt and then I died :( I did enjoy that it was very lenient in taking damage in order to find a winning strategy / pattern (loop, dare I say?) to use against the boss.
Maybe add some different colored tiles bordering on the stage so you know when you're about to back up to the edge of the map? I dodged backwards into an invisible wall a few times.
Nice work.
Hey @badpiggy , I think this was quite a nice and simple game! I will give my feedback based on my personal experiences with action/boss-rush/bullet-hell games. Lets go with the positives first:
1) Nice, simple, and cohesive art style altogether. Blending together the sound AND art altogether very well here. Nothing else to do but to sing praise at how cohesive it is!
2) As a whole, the controls are simple and with the boss phases, give the controls themselves depth. After all, the viability of a skill is dependent on the enemies that you fight.
3) The fact that the player slows down while attacking is a criticism that is highly subjective. And I'm quite frankly in a mixed bag here. On one end, it really throws off the player's movement especially during the second phase. On the other, it maintain a form of offense-defensive playstyle that will soon become prevalent in the game. More on this below for you to take it however you will.
Some of my other thoughts:
1) The second phase of the boss is not particularly interesting - as bullet hell goes (especially since you advertised your game as such). I think it could make do with more interesting patterns, or interesting rhythms, both.
It can be somewhat off-putting playing the second phase but overall, I'm not too turned off by it.
2) Player movement feels a bit clunky. And this is something I do not entirely have an answer for. It's something I just want to make notice.
Regardless, very nice! Enjoyable from start to finish.
Solid entry. As mentioned in my chat, the perspective on the graphics was really effective in making the Titan very titanic.
I ran into a bug where my game locked up in a loop in phase 3 with the Titan fist smashing me but not causing damage and my controls not working. I wasn't able to reproduce, but you can see it in the VOD.
I didn't love the long boss invulnerable segment in phase 3, but it's a common feature of boss fights and probably a matter of taste.
Loved it, gameplay is very snappy and fair, and the sprites convey everything they need to with so few pixels
Fun game, the only thing I would change is the movement speed, feels a little bit slow. Other than that super fun, not quite sure how it fits the theme but I might be missing something. Solid entry overall!
The topic of shared player/boss-healthbars was discussed on Reddit a few days (weeks?) ago. You created a pretty good implementation of this, showing that it does not necessarily lengthen the fights infinitely.
The last stage was a bit frustrating for me on first try though, with neither the boss able to finish me off nor me remotely able to kill him. On second try I succeeded easily.
Took me some time, but I managed to kill the boss. Great entry, really fun to play. Timing the dodge right was quite difficult.
Overall a really nice game.
Very Nice!Good job! Nice balance difficulty!
It was really cool how you mixed 2D sprites and 3D movement! The game was challenging, but a proper boss fight should be just that!
Very good, one of my favorites :) I dig the looks, and the gameplay was *really* fun.
Man this game is hella tough! I love all the movement, but the only thing that sucks a little is that you slow down when you shoot, I think it would be much more fast-paced when you could actually keep walking while shooting. I died in the final phase, which kinda sucked, but it all looked and felt really cool. Good job with this one man!
Nice game feel but theme is not realy here except retry for kill boss faster. The game stay realy cool !
I like the mixture of pixel art and 3d! as well as the player sharing health with the boss. Interesting choice!
+cool artstyle
+great concept of fighting a big boss
+cool that it has different stages
-SFX could be better
-difficulty could be easier to let the player enjoy the full game.
Great work!
Felt a tad too HP spongey for my taste, but I do appreciate what was done here. The art is also quite good, too.
The 2D sprites in a 3D environment are awesome! Nice concept. The different stages of the boss are nice, but too bad there isn't more content.
A decent bossfight, I love bossfights and this one is very good, thank you.
Wow! Really great boss fight! The 2.5D Atmosphere is really nice! The boss has some cool attacks too! Here is some feedback:
- The graphics aren't amazing, but they do their job for the game jam, very well!
- The sounds are ok for a game jam! Great job
- It wasn't hard neither easy, which is perfect! Until I got in the last form, that was somewhat hard and boring, since you could only attack him when he was in his last attack
But overall, 4,1/5 Game for me! Amazing entry and goodluck!
newrecord.PNG Do I hold the new record now? Haha. Awesome game jam game! Love the mechanics on this one. Always being locked on to the boss is a great way to weave in the stuck in a loop theme!
Nice game, very fun and challenging ! cvb.png
Really hard and fun game!
Didn't exactly get how it fit the theme tho.
Couldn't beat the final form. Maybe a more forgiving roll move could make it more satisfying to control, but I'm nitpicking, it's a pretty good entry.
I beat it in 3:36. Not too difficult, but also not too easy. It was a pretty enjoyable game!
@gizmolo yes. You currently hold the new record for the game XD. Great job XD
@badpiggy lets goooo!! That was only my 2nd attempt too :)
Your game was played on my stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/ursagames/videos ) on 10/7. Thank you for sharing your game with us! You can find the timestamp of when your game was played here: https://tinyurl.com/yy4oycvv
Really interesting visual design. I would love to emulate this style in a future project at some point. Really great work here, I enjoyed this entry a lot!
The highest rating I have given so far! The fight feels like a genuine boss fight in a game that I would play. The graphics, though simple, is amazing! It is engaging and really fun to play. Although short and sweet, full of surprises. I am rooting for this as the jam winner! my only suggestion would be to lower the volume of the pew pew as it overpowers everything else! Good luck man this is amazing
Oh this is great! Making you choose between moving and shooting is a choice I can respect, but the movement felt a little too clunky to be quite right for it (imo, of course). Because of it, I found myself getting stuck in "death loops" on the last phase, where unless I more or less spammed the dodge roll I'd eat multiple hits after taking one.
Not necessarily a problem, but you know. It felt like a massive difficulty spike from 2-3, but I'm not gonna pretend like I'm good at video games.
Very fun. I ended up unable to win because I glitched through the ground plane. On the upside, this also meant that the titan couldn't kill me; on the downside, I was *really* stuck then.Untitled.png
So basically soulslike shooter. Sold ! I really loved it wow it felt really tight. I really wish this could be a boss fight of a really beautiful game. really enjoyed you should be super proud of yourself ! Good job :)
Hey. I recorded a video about the Ludum Dare jam and included your game in it. At first, I had some bugs. I fixed them by playing the game on chrome. :D If you want to cut your game out of the video, let me know. However, if you like the video, I make similar videos every day. I will be happy if you subscribe. Anyway, I enjoyed playing your game. https://youtu.be/EMxUWdulrFE
Great game and I really like the graphic style for this one. A good challenge as the playing field is limited. You did a great job badpiggy!
Wow, very cool and intense boss fight! And I used 6 mins 37 seconds to defeat it... ^_^
Hey, I played your game on stream if you're interested the VOD is posted here.

Hey, BadPiggy, thanks for submitting yours to the stream, I enjoyed it! Here's the vod if you wanna rewatch; https://www.twitch.tv/videos/765076622
nicee gameee
Fun! However, I think the controls aren't responsive enough for the final stage to be cleared without an hour or so of gaming.
I had a lot of fun with this game, very Dark Souls-esque with just the right amount of difficulty. The art style is quirky but pretty nice, the only thing that could use some improvement is the music.
Good job on this entry, it's unique and has really tight gameplay!
This was really fun to play, and very suitable for speedrunning! Got down to 57 seconds!
The only thing that I felt was slightly annoying at first is that you had to roll multiple times to get away from the initial fists. Other than that I think you got the attack patterns right, not too advanced to have to practice forever, and not too easy to beat on the first try.
Getting stuck in corners was also a bit annoying, so maybe the arena could be circle shaped instead? Or have many different shapes, and be able to roll diagonally instead of just up/down/left/right.
It's a good balance for a gamejam game.
Great job!
really very good job on this entry. it was very interesting to play and it felt really polished!
I really enjoyed the graphics
Actually pretty cool :) Reminded me a lot of some of the boss fights in Titan Souls. The different stages of the fight were well designed and mixed the game play up enough to keep me engaged until the end. The health/damage mechanic was a nice fresh addition, good call! The controls were ok, but I didn't really like how you implemented the dodge. Especially in the first phase, I often did a good timed dodge, but there didn't seem to be any invincibility frames to keep me safe from the actual attack while dodging so I changed tactics and found the angle at which the fists won't hit me most of the time. I think the dodge could've been a little more reliable and therefore more felxible to use. The sound effects got annoying pretty quickly, especially the standard laser/phaser sound effect of my own attack. Something a little less stingy would've been better. It was pretty loud as well. The wart was very reduced and basic but at least coherent in it's own right :) so good job on that!
All in all, a cool entry. Played it to the end (but with a shitty performance, a second try would be a lot faster!)
@jefvel what was your strat to get that timing man? My God XD. I can't even get anywhere close to that. You have the fastest time in the game now dude XD. Congrats and thank you for the feedback
Eyy I remember your game from GMTK Jam, good to see ya here too. This was a blast to play, I have a soft spot for boss fights especially in jam games, and this was a fun unique take. That last phase was pretty brutal, but good fun! Good stuff
@badpiggy I got it down to 48 seconds! here's a recording of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTphNkghsls
It's a fun game
@jefvel it appears you have mastered the game dude. Great job. Thanks a lot for showing your strat btw XD. Shows I might have to re-think some things about the game's design XD.
Ha! Nicely done! This is one of the most fun entries I played this LD. I'd love it if you could move and shoot at the same time, but we can't have it all, can we. Great job!
Quite an interesting battle concept! Sounds are very well chosen that emphasize the dynamics of the battle. A good strafe system, but it seems to me that the rolls and speed of the character are rather slow to have time to dodge. Overall, I liked it very much, thanks for the great game!
Really well made! love the hardcore gameplay :)
Nice 2D on 3D style! I've got a bit of that in my own game, but you've done it better in my opinion. Also I don't get to play a lot of neat boss fights in the jams, so I'm happy to play something so interesting. Great stuff!
2nd compleation 2:17, I'm happy with that for today and work on it more tomorrow. I like the game and love the graphics, I just don't see the theme that much, I guess that the boss attacks are a loop and you need to find the rythm.
More Ludum Dare games have bossfights. And this was one tough bossfight. The idea of the loop is a bit questionable, but hey, we only had 3 days. This game is so much fun. I'm bookmarking this game to my browser.
Very fun! First completion was only 3 mins, but I'll share my playthrough thoughts anyways.
Phase 1: I tried to be gutsy and play the boss up front, just cuz I like to do that sort of stuff. Only later did I realize the hand has travel time, so when you move further back you can squeeze in more shots before having to roll. It's possible that might optimize your times @jefvel but I don't have the skill to prove it.
Phase 2: A simple circle strafe did the trick here, I don't remember how much or how often I rolled.
Phase 3: Just a much less efficient version of what he does in that speedrun. I didn't realize you could pop in some shots when the dual cannons are going on!
I really enjoyed the game. The phases are distinct and make you think in different ways. The thing that caught my eye with this game was the gif of you just nonstop rolling around lol. It was funny and intriguing. Great job on the jam!
While trying out the controls at the start (I like games that let me test the controls and move the player before game begins), I accidentally started when I pressed the shoot button first (since I was just reading down the list) - I think maybe I would prefer either a start button or put the "z to shoot" line at the very bottom with the arrows for moment and "x to dodge" above that.
Since I didnt read the summary, it took me a second to understand the health bar mechanic at the top, I really like the idea of the player vs enemy health bar. I liked the different boss phases, I found myself constantly dodge rolling by the final level and it was very difficult to find a moment get some shots in without take damage myself. Spoiler: I didnt finish the third phase since I could barely break a 20%/80% health ratio lol
Art style was simple but I enjoyed the simple color palette, 2D/3D combo, and animations. It was nice to have the shadows for the hands to see if I was going to be in the smash radius.
Music loop was a bit short and felt repetitive as I progressed, wished there were volume controls so I could just the audio & sound effects. I originally thought at the tid bit at the end of the music loop was to warn me (audio feedback) that I was in the smash radius of the hands, but when it moved to the next phase I realized it was just part of the background music
Great entry, sorry I wasnt able to play this live on Stream D:
Very very very very cool
Incredible gameplay! Good job!
Super fun game! At first I was worried it would be a bit repetitive but it definitely ramped up in difficulty after the first stage. Awesome entry!
Fun game, a bit too short, I love the mix of 2D/3D, the shared health point is a very cool idea. Great work !
I really like the visual and how you use it to create a dark atmosphere. You also set up a very interesting camera angle that made the character feels super small and overhung by the skeleton. The music was good and fit the game and gives it an arcade feel, but maybe I would have preferred something more in line with the atmosphere, not sure tho.
I liked how you handled the gameplay, the fact that you can attack only if not moving and the auto aiming. You could also make so that if you not move you attack, without having to press. Movement and attacks in general feel smooth and fast enough.
I also liked that you share the hp with the boss, so being hurt it's not about how much can I sustain but how long this will last. It gave me more reasons somehow to not get hit because I would have lost progress! But also gave me the chance to get back up again if hit. It made the game more original overall, instead of the usual different hp bars with potion to heal and stuff.
Maybe the last stage is a bit of a spike in difficulty, and gives just a few windows of opportunity to hit him. Maybe making him vulnerable during the punch phase would have helped. It detracts a bit from the pacing.
The theme though is not there or I couldn't get it, maybe the end suggest that you are stuck in a loop of skeleton and have to beat them forever?
Anyway, I had fun beating this, great work!
I've a question, you have few ratings given but a lot of ratings received, besides making some posts here on the ludum dare, is there something else you did to gain visibility?
@toccio94 first of all, thank you for playing and for the feedback :). And as for your question about visibility, I posted in a lot of places like reddit and twitter. I think that helped a lot
Alright, time for a long "thank you" message

I personally just want to thank all of you for playing and providing feedback on my game :) I'll be making a post jam version of this game after the jam when I can and try and fix the bugs you guys mentioned.
I'll also be making an Android port of the post jam version of the game
Will I be expanding this game ? I probably will but if I don't, then I'll be making use of this setup for another project at the very least

Thank you all so much for playing :)
Loving this game. Especially the unique perspective, like I know it's third person but this small character makes something different. I would definitely pay for a full version of this game - some story and exploration or something. Little more sounds would be nice to implement and I'm loving it, really enjoyed playing
I really like the idea of a "shared healthbar" between you and your enemy, where you're constantly in a tug of war! It's also the perfect length for a LD game, I beat it in a little over 2 minutes. I like the design of the boss, and his attacks are really cool (especially the one where he shoots a copy of his face? That's pretty neat) and the attacks are well choreographed, so the player knows when to dodge out of the way. Great work all around!
Great submission, definitely in the top for the games i've played so far. I really like the idea of sharing the health with the boss. Essentially every game already does that, its either you die or the boss dies but you visualized it in a nice way. Also, by doing that, you made it possible that the boss fight lasts forever despite hitting the boss many times, very cool.
The sound effects were a little bland, perhaps some variation for the OnHit sounds but overall a great submission.
@badpiggy ohhh an android build! Nice!
I liked it! Quite cool boss fight, and a genre I like! The graphics are really nice and the gameplay works well, I liked the mechanic of health :) I suppose that's where the loop is, you're stuck in a fight loop until one of the 2 opponents can deal enough damage to the other ? the audio can become a bit annoying but I find it pretty nice nonetheless, and the controls are a little unusual but that may just be me, solid entry, you can be proud! Screenshot_1.png
I liked the challenge. Well done!
fantastic little game, well done! I must say, I suck at the timing :grimacing: I will say I found it quite frustrating, in that the timing has to be pretty accurate. Give me a little leeway please  also the audio is **very** grating and the mix isn't great - the sfx are much louder than the background music, and they hurt to listen to  that is a minor nitpick for a jam game though :joy: overall, great job, looking forward to a post-jam version!
Reminds me of the ios game 'bleak sword'; the final round is quite bullshit but i got it done in my second run. Well done!
This was really fun and the art style worked well for what it was. Feels very solid not much to critique here really!
Super fun! I really liked the 2d but in a 3d space twist. It added a lot to the overall mood and made the fight much better.
The gif caught my eye with it's shadow of the colossus-y sense of scale, it looks pretty cool. The mechanics are simple but solid. But the sounds are hard on the ears, they are too high and hurt my ears. The graphics are OK, but could use a bit more detail on the titan, it's like 8x8 when the player is 16x16 (actually player's sprite is awesome, I like it very much). In general the game comes together very well, it doesn't try to overstay it's welcome (which is a common issue with ludum dare games), well done!
Really simple idea, but the execution was well polished. The angle of everything and the decided movements restricted the gameplay but at least influenced the expected gamestyle as intended. The hardest part when when it was just the head alone, but after playing it on loop over and over, I finally found a strategy that allowed me to win.
If I was to add something, I would add jumping, but that would also require many more boss mechanics in return.
Cool game regardless! Love the 3D perspective!
I really enjoyed this mini boss rush! solid experience, reminded me a tiny bit to Titan Souls. Good entry although I did not see the theme being represented (maybe being stuck in a boss battle?). Good work!
It took me 3 mins and I am not proud of myself.
Really nice game though, enjoyed the little boss fight, well done
I really liked this mini boss fight ! It was a bit hard for me to dodge his attacks and shoot since you had to roll like 3 times to not get hit, but I really enjoyed the idea of the boss or the player getting stronger from landing attacks. Nice job ~
