Very pretty game, you can see exactly what the developer was going for here, couldn't find the library though.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD42 → Anxiety

Very pretty game, you can see exactly what the developer was going for here, couldn't find the library though.
Interesting concept, rather cerebral. I enjoyed the graphics and the attention to details like seeing the town occupants' eyes in the inky blackness. Nice job.
Bless those kitties. When it got hard to navigate I thought "I wish there were animals to reverse the effect" and there they were. Fantastic job!
Very effective audiovisuals. I could imagine a larger game built around the anxiety/space metaphor like this.
This game is a fantastic little mood study. I really liked the art style, how the character left footsteps behind, and the text constantly cluttering the blackness. I think that this perfectly exhibited the feeling of the world closing in on you and making it hard to focus and remember where you are or what is happening. This is a great little game, well done!
Wow this was cool. :O I think it captured the mindset of social anxiety really well. I liked the heart beat sound a lot and also how the people's eyes waver are still visible in the darkness.
this game was pretty fun, the feels when i left the park for the first time. though after a while all i heard was a buzzing sound while i was playing the "how many guys can i push into the park" game. and i did notice alot of your z indexes were buggy, like the building was higher then the dudes and stuff. but other then that i got the point of the game, was nicely presented in a understanding way.
Portrayed the mood perfectly.
Wow great job. Nailed the atmosphere. I almost felt myself getting anxiety. Definitely a unique take on the theme.
Great game, art and mood.
Reminds of undertale but the mood here is a lot darker, Loved the atmosphere you achieved here
@jcmonkey Dude, you really dive deep in the test ^^
Great atmosphere amazing what people can make in 48 hours
Good game. I liked how the atmosphere was transferred due to sounds and text.
This genuinely made me feel pretty anxious. Very simple but effective sound effects!
Aaah, loved it! I have a concept for a game that tries to have the Player experience a mental dishorder through gameplay, so playing this really was inspiring!
I have only one real complain, but I'm still trying to decide if I'm correct in thinking it or not: At one point through my first playthrough I wanted to have a Game Over to start over. It would have definetly helped the Gameplay, but I'm not sure if thematically it made sense, since the "danger" is not actually there narratively-speaking, so having a Game Over would have ruined the message a bit, maybe.
An idea that came to my mind while wirting the comment was to have a "restart" button bound to the letter "S", and that when pressed implied that the girl decided to suicide. Definetly heavy, I know, but I feel that the game wants to be heavy so maybe it would have been a good extra mechanic. As always though, the time was thight, so maybe you thought about this but didn't have the time to get it in.
Really appreciated the game, good job <3
Cool use of text overlays. Sometimes it was a little distracting "My Feet HDKDJKS" (same), but it was pretty effective overall. Would have liked to see inside the library to know it's nice beyond just the end message, but the ending was still pretty good. Good job!
The idea is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Game allows to feel what's in that girl's mind. Maybe too short, but anyway, one of my favourite games for now at current Ludum Dare.
"My game is worthly", I see it! I have little bug with fog - https://imgur.com/a/0alxFll .
Interesting concept. The game is very well done. Good luck with your entry!
Thank you all for your constructive messages
@simone-cicchetti : Yep, i voluntarily removed the death condition exactly for the reasons you explained, but i have never thought about suicide. ! Interesting idea here. You pushed the concept even further, the game you are preparing will be intense !
@marcel-oyuela-bonzani : Its a bug i didn't have time to solve, but hey, it helps to build up the mood
@erendelous : Thanks, very encouraging
@team-on : Thanks for the feedback. I had the bug in the HTML version, and it seems that when i solved it, it appeared in the DL one :( Bravo for finding the little easter egg
great mood ! the graphics feels good and the game is overall good (at least for me)
Cool take on the theme! Great atmosphere. Never did find the library, though. Maybe that's the point.
Easy 5 stars for mood!
I loved the style, how text is continuosly spawning in black spaces eating all the visual. Also, the lack of a lose condition is beneficial, because you can have an immersive experience in a simulation of a panic attack.
maybe some post processing with grain and camera shake will improve the beautiful mood you created.
Pretty solid entry, one of the best I played at moment.
Take a look to my entry if you want, I really need tips and feedbacks to improve myself
Thanks for creating this little gem!

Wow, that was unsettling, to say the least. Great job.
Wow, the atmosphere is super cool! Very interesting.
Nice game, enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!
Huh, very heavy theme but the overall simplicity quite well depicts the issue od anxiety imo. Very good for a serious game genre!
Ok, I found it a bit disturbing, but can relate to some of the things the text described, from how I felt in the past. The sounds added to the effect and it's a interesting take on the theme, and I liked the pixelated female character she was cute, keep up the good work! c:
@yukey0 Hey thanks for your comment. If this game is too disturbing, you should try Save-Me-a-Seat, its about anxiety but in a much cooler way ^^
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/save-me-a-seat
Really interesting little game; just playing it felt very stressful, which I guess is exactly as intended.
What you lost on the score for 'fun' you more than made up for in 'mood'.
It was very interesting, I can see it really hitting hard on people who suffer from anxiety. It was a little confusing, a lot of the gameplay had to be discovered and wasn't exactly clear. But the message the creator was going for is very clear, and the way it is portrayed is very well done.
Good game play idea and well done on the art. I like the text effect that kinda bugs out as its presented. Good job!

Wow! This really captured the theme on a visual, audio, and kind of meta level (with the game overlay comments). Great work!
Quite simple and interesting! I got to the end without anything bad happening, and had to try again to see if it was possible to die from those beings in the dark. The words going across her mind was a neat addition to the creepy factor.
Good luck! :)
I really love the art, from the design of the character to the colors! I would be very interested in seeing more of this world. The speed of the letters getting typed on screen also worked really well. One small thing I noticed was that you run into trees even when you're supposed to be walking behind them (so like at the top of the trees) -- I think you might want the collider to only be at the base of the tree, and there's a setting in Unity that automatically sets stuff "in front" of others based on their position in the Y direction. I don't know if that's something you just chose to not prioritize in this jam, it's definitely not a big deal. Overall it was definitely an impressive experience with a very strong mood. :)
@judy-kim thanks for playing my game and for the unity tip' It was my first time using box collider and rigid body ^^ if you read this message please tell me where is this option in Unity cause i dont find it :)
Can't really say anything new, others already said what I want. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
my first 5 star in mood! Seriously well done with that. I didn't find it particularly fun, but that definitely isn't the point. Love love loved the mechanics, and it was a wonderful take on the theme. You'll get a tweet from me on Twitter for that! Amazing work. Great job!
Small and quick game. Actually it feels more like designed experience.. There are sometimes these games that provoke thinking and the gameplay is kind of secondary.
Very original touch to the theme. Anxiety keeps overpowering the player making the world smaller. Ambient sounds add to the dramatic atmosphere nicely. Very moody game. There could be even more sounds coming from the environment to intensify the experience.
Love the footsteps the character leaves behind. I think more games should do this kind of tracking. Zombie eyes glowing in the dark is a nice touch too. I think the bubble that keeps shrinking should be more pixelated to fit in with overall pixel art aesthetics.
Good start for your game designing. Hope to see you in the LD Jam also! :)
@keppu thanks for your detailed review. also i like your profile picture
Very innovative. The art, the audio helps build the mood greatly. Very fitting entry. Was there ever a Library?
@mza thanks for the review. yes the library exist ^^
Nice entry, you really created a strong mood with your game.
Impressive mood in this entry! I liked the art as well. I don't know if there is any (did not play for me in that case) but I think some silent background music could even push the mood further. Have it increase with the sound FX when anxiety is increasing and maybe that feel would be even more intense. Very well delivered feelings. Good job!
A great gaming experience. I really love the way you convey the message in a simple way: just white text on top of black background. An excellent and creative way of utilizing negative space. This game scores really high for me. I even wonder how you implemented the triggers for the text, at first I thought they were triggered by people around her but when I go back to the camp, it was still going.. so I guess it is random after being triggered? Anyhow, great great work!
@tontonpizza Edit > File Settings > Graphics > Transparency Sort Axis > set it to X=0 Y=1 Z=0 to make Y the background :)
Wow, what a game. Well done conveying the feelings of anxiety. Short and well designed, thanks for the experience!
I just ran directly to the library. Not sure that was intended.... 5/5
Unique interpretation of the theme. Very nice atmosphere and mood. Great entry!
Wow, I just got paralyzed for like 1 minute when the people got around me and all the phrases started popping. I have no words to describe the feeling I got. Thank you so much for your entry.
Really good job at creating a very mood-based game. The audio really sold the anxiety-raising as the screen narrowed. I will say for me, it wasn't necessarily a 'fun' game, but that doesn't really detract from it being a really solid LD entry. Good job!
I can't I'm a big fan of the audio. I could have done without the constant buzzing/tinnitus. That said, the rest of the game is pretty solid. I especially enjoyed how NPCs eyes glow in the dark.
I really loved this! It was an excellent take on the theme and very well executed. Good job here
nice work.i like the art style
I know that girl! Very unusual thinking of theme and mood 10 of 5. And I also prefer my cats over most people ;)
Charming little game. I'm glad to see someone else worked on a narrative driven experience. Bonus points for the cat :)
Very innovative and simple idea!
I really appreciate the graphics who really highlights the subject. Great staging, the visual field who retracts onto itself and intrusive thoughts disturbing the game-reading creates
a nice immersion and perfectly set up the confused mind of the heroine.
Congrats!
Amazing game. Fantastic Experience. It explains what people with anxiety must feel like in their everyday life.
Holy cow that's amazing mood. The sound and the floating text really pulls it off
Every aspect of this lays on the mood of anxiety exquisitely. The most genius quality is how much easier it gets to find the library once you ease your mind with some quality kitty time.
I love this style and type of gameplay!
Well executed concept, atmosphere and overall experience.
Great take on social anxiety! Simple but great take on the theme too. I enjoyed it.
I really liked how you conveyed emotions and atmosphere through the game, good use of theme. Great game, keep it up :)
Amazing job at communicating the anxiety through the mechanics, the text and all the small details. I like those small additions like the footsteps or the yellow eyes on top of the fog. And the cat mechanic is cool too. It's only after my second playthrough that I got the use of the theme, and it's clever. Really good job here!
The mechanic works fine with the theme. I was very anxious, specially because of the text. The eyes in the darkness to mark the NPCs location was a good idea too.
I love the game. The way to express the anxiety related to introvert people. The atmosphere that you have created in the game is amazing. I could sense the anxiety trough the screen. Good job! I have read that is your first time using colliders and physics in Unity. I am not even a master in it, but I can give a couple of tips. In a 2D tree you can put the box collider only filling half of the tree; leaving the treetop without collider. If you write a script to put the order in layer based on the Y axis of the tree sprite and using the same system with the characacter sprite; then the character will be behind the tree when walking around. You can use this system for everything in 2D in sprite to give the sense of depth while playing in a top-down perspective game.
Anyways, Great game! Congratulations ^^!!
Very strong piece. Clever and truthful depiction of social anxiety. I feel that too sometimes. Thanks for your game.
@bichodust thanks for the tip. Judy Kim told me there is an option in unity for that :
"Edit > File Settings > Graphics > Transparency Sort Axis > set it to X=0 Y=1 Z=0 to make Y the background :)"
I have to try it and maybe i ll write my own script.
Brilliantly done in every aspect I liked this a lot. Do check out our game too maybe you'll like it.
@tontonpizza I really liked ur game man. I like ur take on the social anxiety issue here.
Mood of the game is amazing! At some point I was lost in the small town! Keep up the good work!
OH, WOW. This is terrific. This was a perfect fit for the theme. Very simple, yet complex. I also really like what you did with the text. Everything worked very well together. Fantastic job!
This looks really good. No audio sound ? Game scores high on mood also, even without sound/music
I did find the library really quick, and then it started over so i guess i was just lucky ? I also loved the text effects,it added to the mood a lot.
great job
@roidz thanks for your feedback. there are 2 sounds in the game you can't miss it. may be you are facing a bug. :'(
Given the title and theme of the game, I think it would be fair to point out that the first time I played through, I just constantly said "oh god" the whole time.
The second time, I actively sought out other people just to see what the game would do, which, even when it became apparent the answer was "nothing" -- I was expecting the character to break down and run back to start or something -- I still was super unnerved by the increasing red tint and decreasing circle as I kept the dude nearby to see if failure was an option.
This is a pretty accurate representation of anxiety as I have experienced it and social anxiety as has been described to me by those suffering from it.
The heartbeat and simulated tinnitus sound, btw, really ramped up the physical sensations of anxiety I experienced while playing.
Absolutely well done.
Took me a while to find library x)
I like aesthetics, animations on text, and narration !
Great job! :)
btw, maybe you could checkout our jam game ?! :)
Excellent job on passing the message of the social anxiety, both with the gameplay and the phrases on the screen.
Well I don't have anxiety problem but this feels like a pretty good approximation. Loved the animal thing! Great job!
nice work. The game is very short but you have a decent concept to work with and turn into a larger game. Some more work can be done audio-wise, like music that responds to the thoughts as well as things like whispers and laughter that creep in as anxiety increases.
short but excellent. It's interesting how everything (graphics, sound desing, gameplay) supports your message. that's some really good work!
excellent little game that actually made me think what it's like for people who suffer with this. Also had that Silent Hill vibe going on; the overall look and feel would be perfect for a horror game.
This game is really good example of how art should work. Every game part: gameplay, sound, graphics, etc. serve to one purpose - express your idea. Thats great, my heartbeat even increased when I played it. All this text messages and how hostile people are look...just Wow.
The first time I played (after the rating period ended), I had my sound turned down and I walked almost directly to the library. I thought it was a simple walk as night was coming on with an inner monologue. Now that I have read some comments and played again, I appreciate the narrowing field of view and the audio as a function of encountering people or cats. I am actually allergic to cats, but I understand that other people do not get anxious around them. Congratulations!
