I like the concept of this game, would love to see a finished polished version! keep it up!

justinsix 2018-08-12 23:26

@tophats64-games Thanks so much for checking it out! I definitely think I'll be working more on it in the coming weeks, I have so much more I want to do with the game. Let me know if you have any specific things you'd like to see added/changed to make it better!

laytanl 2018-08-12 23:32

Considering all your disclaimers i thought it would be a very bad game, but it is quite the opposite. I liked the feel of the game alot and played till the end! It could use some music, and it does not have anything to do with the theme but overall great job!

rk3omega 2018-08-12 23:37

Fun game, especially on level 2 I believe it was when things started shooting at me and I had to dodge them. However the instructions were only on screen for a split second, so I wasn't able to read them, and I couldn't seem to progress after I got the double range power up.

alexey-akulovich 2018-08-12 23:37

Funny game! But powerup above the player and it is not impossible to take it. Selection_030.png

justinsix 2018-08-12 23:40

Yeah you have to shoot it to activate it. @alexey-akulovich theres also a weird bug where only half the time the power up works and activates and spawns the portal to the next room @rk3omega It's already on my list to change the way the moving to the next level works, so in future versions the tutorial text will be on screen longer

justinsix 2018-08-12 23:42

Thank you so much for the feedback and playing it guys :D

Well it's no bookworm adventure deluxe, but don't be so hard on yourself this game is great and i can't wait to seeing more games that you make!

panda 2018-08-13 02:10

Tbere's a surprising amount of content in there! Good job! Love the programmer graphics.

alexander-tan 2018-08-13 08:45

nice concept, would love the controls to be abit faster but overall quite fun

justinsix 2018-08-13 08:50

thanks for playing, how specifically would you suggest I make the controls faster? Do you mean the movement or the shooting? @alexander-tan

ravenflame 2018-08-13 09:45

I liked it. It could be a bit faster and less particle effects as the game crawled for me. Congratulations on finishing you first game (I think that's that case from the description).

lefinno 2018-08-13 10:16

Nice game! The concept and gameplay is great, the controls are decent, the only thing is the angles of shooting could be more, maybe in eight sides? Also, the graphics seems to be a bit rushed, it would be a nice touch to give the enemy a simple crawling animation.

seannewman22 2018-08-13 10:41

Not a bad game overall man, great job for your first game jam! Only critique I can give is to keep working at it and adding more content and mechanics so that its a fully fleshed out game. Good job!

justinsix 2018-08-13 10:48

@seannewman22 Thanks :) I definitely want to flesh it out and make it a more complete and unique game... will still be free though :)

2018-08-13 11:02

This is a cool game considered it was for a 3 day jam. Core mechanics are there. it wasn't clear to me that I had to pick up the green slimes to regenerate. The turrets added an predicted angle and that wouldn't be that bad if the character movement wasn't so terribly slow, so you don't really have the possibility to dodge the projectiles most of the time. And I despise gradual acceleration and deceleration in those kind of games, it feels like you are sliding on the floor. The difficulty curve was good though and I liked the inclusion of an update mechanic.

dom-harris 2018-08-13 11:31

@justinsix it was a neat concept, but like it's been said before the movement is a bit slow and the acceleration/deceleration makes it feel like you're on ice, which is frustrating! The controls need to last longer, maybe put them on the floor of the first room, like Isaac does? The enemies were great, good job with that! The spikes on the floor weren't immediately obvious to me, I get that it's programmer art but a little more contrast would be good - maybe make them on a black/darker background so it looks like it's a pit? Music is good, well done for getting that in! The floor of the rooms makes them look walled off, it took me a while to work out that I could just walk over it - I was waiting for it to let me through!

I'd definitely play a finished version, though! Good job

krapht 2018-08-13 12:41

It felt a little sluggish. Not sure if intended or glitch but there was one time where I was reduced to an absolute craw until I picked up health, then I was moving normal speed again. I suspect Bug because it never happened again.

justinsix 2018-08-13 16:20

Thanks so much for the feedback guys :) I really feel like I have a direction to take the game in future updates and am excited to keep developing it

kaboosh 2018-08-13 16:46

The music and audio were really good, i really liked the artstyle it's cute and simple.

adroitconceptions 2018-08-13 18:13

Good entry. music stops after the first track finishes, should set it to a loop. character controls are sluggish... mostly not an issue except for the really fast moving enemies... you basically can't do anything to dodge them. Floor is confusing - it looks like it is separate rooms.

sinnis 2018-08-14 08:05

Good job ! Even if there are some technicals issues (some freezes on my side), you seem to know well the core mecanics of that type of game, and the fun seems to be here (I didn't try hard due to the freeze). And your sprite are sooooo cute ! Especially the vortex to change level.

stefan-jovanovic 2018-08-16 13:00

Good game overall, and it is really nice for your first Ludum Dare! Keep up the good work!

rjhelms 2018-08-21 02:17

Not bad at all for your first go around! I feel like the controls are a bit "floaty" - a lot of the joy of a game like this comes from making the movement feel really good and snappy, though that's often a lot easier said than done. Just something to experiment with!
