If space raiders was on LSD this would be the resulting trip. I recommend giving this a try.
Movement is a tad janky but other than that it's a good submission! Great job :thumbsup:

The graphics are really good on this. But the music is honestly a bit annoying after a minute.
The game play is nice though.
Nice job :)
Really liked the graphical style.
God! it's really though! But it's funny to play :)
Graphics are on point! The gameplay is fun, I managed to get to 12 points a couple times but always died straight after that.
A nice submission, functional beautiful and to the point.
Nice, unique game. I liked the art style.
* Theme - another variation on the shrinking map :( * the enemy movement is so fast that it is hard to react to... your often hit in the time it takes to see, move mouse, click on the screen.
@adroitconceptions Thanks for your feedback.
I love the art / glowing effect! It's really hard, I can' get past 22 or 23.
Decent enough, the movement controls felt a bit weird though. I have no idea what the blue and red ball were doing, and a lot of the time I died to enemies that I couldn't see coming. Graphics are decent, I'm a sucker for bloom xD though bad choice of font :wink: I'm a bit of a font nerd though so maybe other people don't notice so much. Shame about the interpretation of the theme, I've already played about a thousand variations of "the map is shrinking" so low points on the theme from me. Sorry! It's better when people do unique things with it :sweat_smile:
@chocolat-endive The original game was actually very very hard. Harder than this one. After some play testing, I altered the game quick a bit.
@bigjigglyproductions Thanks a lot.
@dom-harris Thanks for at least leaving some quality feedback. First of all, the blue and red balls are actually planets that you cannot touch. Yes, a lot of games have "The map is shrinking" elements. I agree, I actually never thought that many people would interpret the idea. :wink: A lot of people have been complaining about the enemy spawn system, so expect a quick update right after the deadline! :smile:
Edit: Messed up the emoji codes
@tinynerd ahh that makes sense, thanks for the clarification! I'll play it again when you update it, ping me if you do!
I like the space invaders style of art and gameplay but I personally think the music is kind of repetitive and annoying and it dosen't really fit but other than that you represented the theme pretty well. I just released my game it would be appreciated if you took a look: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/crumble-1
@dom-harris @chocolat-endive @adroitconceptions I updated the game to make it a tad bit easier. :smiley:
Like the idea, but the music gets old quite quickly. The gameplay itself is ok, but not much is keeping me play furter, some feeling of progression is missing. I like the colors and the art, it gives a good retro feel! Keep it up.
Really fun arcade-inspired shooter! I found the easiest way to get 20 points was to spaz my cursor around and shoot randomly, that way I would kill the enemies before they got into my area and I would save space. The controls took a bit to get used to but were really fun once I got them. Excellent work!
Nice graphics, though it was made too hard for me by the enemies going too fast. Don't forget that to to doge and enemy I have to 1) move my mouse to point in a direction which is safe 2) press spacebar once I've done that and 3) get far enough away to not get killed. That all takes time!
@markD Yes, there isn't really any sense of progression right now... But, at some point in time, I'll probably release a v0.3 where points are used to exchange for more ships or something like that, ya know: UPGRADES. :smiley: Thanks!
@hyprgloo Yes... but at some point, you have to get out of your comfort zone! :cruise_ship: Glad you enjoyed it! :smiley:
Love the controls but tbh the music isn't really good imo.
But it's still a great game!
@kassjak yes.... I am not really a master in composing great music.... :v:
@divinenephron I actually tweaked the difficulty a lot and fixed the enemy spawn system in version 0.2. But thanks for playing, I really do appreciate it!
I like the art and the controls. However I died a lot by ennemies I coudn't see coming ... but hey ... this is a jam ;)
@sinnis Hi there! Thanks a lot. :smiley: Even though this game is for a jam, it doesn't mean I am stopping right there, I will also be fixing and adding new stuff to the game over time, and I am a person that wants to listen and fix stuff the community wants me to fix. So how did you not see the enemies come? Were they too fast? How can I solve the problem for you? :v:
Enemies are fine for me, controls too :) I just didn't like planets, because I can't see if there is some enemy hiding behind it or not. The background music was really repetitive, but still better than nothing :) When I make background music I try to make it at least 1 minute long (you can repeat some specific parts of the track and it helps you to stretch it to one minute). However, I really liked your graphics, the colors are just great!
@maoap Thanks! Yeah, I am working on an update (version 0.3) where I will get rid of the planets, and do much more, like add collectible ships, aaaaannnnndddd: better music, like pretty much everyone wanted. :smiley:
@tinynerd Great to know; looking forward to it :)
Really nice! I love the simple and bright visuals. Gameplay is fun, even though the movement is a little floaty and some hit boxes are a little off. Great work! :)
@megalink Thanks a lot! Well, the movement has to be floaty: It is in space. Or.... Am I understanding it wrong? What do you meant with "floaty"? Thanks! :smiley:
@tinynerd We've finished Part 1 of our Play and Rate video for Ludum Dare 42, and we've added it per your response. Check it out! https://youtu.be/vuUp1EYEiuA (The video may be uploading for a little while. If so, check back after a day or so)
Got 45 points, a very fun game, the sound effect goes with the theme, I don't know if I can move at all, at some point the ship actually moved a bit and I tried to do that again with AWSD and arrow keys but failed. I think the dead enemies clutter the view too much, maybe you can clean that a bit after each round, because they are red and the enemies are red as well so its hard to see. Otherwise, a very fun game, it is pretty visible that my skills get better and the high score is a nice touch.
A great concept. Though some balancing may be required. Some of the colliders were a bit too big for the models they were attached to. You might also want to add some sound to movement. Your graphics portray rocket boosters of some sort but your audio doesn't reflect that. Hope this helps :slight_smile:
@nam-nguyen The tutorial in on the main menu, maybe you missed it. It is **space** to thrust forward. :v:
@king-kujito Thanks, yes your feedback will be valuable for us, thanks!
:smile: Well done in completing a game! I loved the visuals and the concept. This is a really good use of the theme. However the player is a bit zoomed in imo, which makes it harder than it needs to be and makes death feel unfair instead of deserved.
@capitals Zoomed in?
@tinynerd Yeah, if the camera was a bit further out so you could see more of the map and the player is smaller
