Really good atmosphere! The camera was a bit awkward to find some of the doors. I enjoyed it.

Really good atmosphere! The camera was a bit awkward to find some of the doors. I enjoyed it.
This really captures how horrible it was to be a little child getting lost, even your own home is suddenly huge and mysterious. Moving around and seeing stuff was a bit awkward, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it made me feel more like the little protagonist. I especially liked the getting-too-scared-feature!
Moving felt a little awkward but this is exactly the kind of horror game that I love to play. You captured the atmosphere really well!
Nice atmosphere, even though I don't like the voxel looks it's still really well done.
Camera and movement can be a little temperamental. I didn't finish it since I got stuck, so I'm not sure if there's an ending? I'll try it again tomorrow though, because I quite liked it so far. Playing as a child who's scared of the dark brings back memories :D
I'm not usually a fan of horror but I like this one. I love voxels so I adore the art style. I think the atmospheric music really brings the horror aspects out. The match system was also well done, it kind of acted as check points for your exploration.
The camera's point of view was a bit rough but it was manageable.
Well done, I enjoyed the game and never felt stuck even when trying to figure out the next segment.
Pretty creepy! I thought it was a little dark on my monitor, so might have been good to have a little adjustment. I couldn't figure out how to light the second candle, but definitely has a good atmosphere, sound, and graphics.
Awesome. You want to rock the Mood category, aren't you? The only problem I had - game freezed for a second when showing the pickup texts and to the moment it goes back to normal the text is gone. And I pretty much want to know what did I pick. But the game in general is really cool and atmospheric, the top 25 material.
Very cool! Got a definite Silent Hill vibe from the music which was VERY well done. I'm not a huge fan of the voxel style personally, but I was surprised to find I couldn't put down the game until I had solved the puzzle! Well done!
A very enjoyable little experience, with some great atmosphere to capture the mood of being alone, small and afraid. Great mechanics with the candles to make rooms safe, and I also really enjoyed the frightened rush back to her room when she was too scared.
As others have mentioned - the controls and camera could be improved. Maybe the character herself should be smaller as well... she almost filled the width of the corridors, making her feel a little too big at times.
Did reach the end, but didn't fully get the story - what DID happen to the parents? And, why was I leaving bloody footprints on the floor (I guess those were mine... at first they scared me  ).
Either way - this was a great little horror game, and I genuinely felt the need to complete it.
Very atmospheric, love the sound effects, though the girl sometimes did seem to run away at nothing, but I guess that's by choice.
@schiapu the girl has a stress meter (you'll hear a louder heartbeat). It goes up while in the dark and down when in light. Once it reaches a critical point she runs back to the last light touched.
@pschichtel - Linux version of my game is now available. Sorry about that ;)
Nice. I would just stay in my room if I were that little girl.
Overall great feel. I like the kind of incongruence between the voxel graphics and the live voiceacting.
I loved the atmosphere of the game, it took a little bit of time but I was able to navigate around the house, solve the puzzle and leave the house. I did almost give up after hitting the buttons as I couldn't find where to go, but I found the door I missed after a couple passes.
My only real gripe was the child getting scared and running to a candle, this is neat the first few times but it started happening at seemingly random; I assume it has to do with the ambient light around because she would gasp quite often if I turned and my flashlight was near or passed into the wall.
Overall I enjoyed the horror theme, the art was alright and most of it meshed well. I really liked the look of the main character. Good job guys.
Very cool idea... like the mood! Creepy! Had trouble seeing on my monitor which always resulted in me running to hide in my room which gets a little old after a while. Would like to see this expanded.
Very nice atmosphere/mood/feel/adjective. Lighting and camera made it hard to see, but I can forgive that.
Cool mood :) Maybe some little probleme with the view and the camera ! But it's ok. it's creepy and go design. Good job !
I love it. Great atmosphere, sound and art. Camera is a bit clumsy, sometimes I had a hard time to find door because of it. But overall its a great game and I really need teddy bear now, because it's dark...
Great atmosphere in this game, very creepy, mainly because of the good background music and SFX. The art style is very cool, the game looks great, though I'd make the girl a bit smaller. The physics could be tweaked a bit, but it wasnt a big issue. I thought the girl running back when too scared was a fun mechanic, though I would have liked a counter of how many matches we have.
Great atmosphere! It really catches the feeling of being a child scared of dark! :O Also, the music and the voxel art are very nice :) Personally the only thing I don't like is the point of view of the camera, a bit uncomfortable for me.
Overall, nice work. I really liked the atmosphere and the visuals.
Like people are saying, the movement felt a bit clunky. Instead of having ground movement be independent of looking around, I'd have the mouse control direction and then keys control forward and backward. That way it has more of a two joystick feel. But great job!
Really enjoyed this one! My only real complaints are that the camera angle feels a bit restrictive, and the running away mechanic started to get really annoying. Besides that it was great! The voxel art looks really good, and it genuinely startled me more than once. Good work!
Scary, interesting and fun. The best part is the story and the simple game mechanics. The worst is the weird camera angle. But overall a very well made LD game.
Running away mechanic was somewhat annoying.. biggest issue I had with it was figuring out what was actually triggering it.
I am not much into horror type games personally, so that probably impacted my enjoyment of the game.
Graphics were quite nice given the time frame.
I found it odd that there was a lit candle in a child's room. Maybe that is more common in other parts of the world then where I live... but I wouldn't personally have open flame around my kids unsupervised.
Also, was odd that I couldn't pick up a candle.. seems like the first thing one would do if venturing out in the dark given that it seemed to be the primary light source.
was unclear by the voice over at bumping into the unlit candles if it meant, that if I had matches I could light it or if it was just a voice over pointing out the unlit candles.
We published a new post-jam version that integrates some of your feedback!
This was pretty fun! There was enough content for a second play-through.It FELT like there maybe enough for a third. With more time i'd love to see a loss state. I personally thought the retreat was a necessary event. The progress of lighting a room was a good idea. If it was associated with something to convey more of why she was running, that would be awesome.
Camera was a little steep I thought. It would be cool if the angle was infact the view of what the girl was afraid of.
Aside from that the mood was really well done. The LoFi aesthetic totally worked. Props on music and sound of course. The candles and matches were a tad odd to for such an young child but then again, I've never razed kids and candles are environmentally responsible.
Also, where tf is mommy
At first I played the WebGL Version but I had no sound. It wasn't really scary and more of a puzzle game. But than afterwards I downloaded it and it became much scarier with sound.
The sound design is really good. I only have one other complaint. The movement, the longer you walk without bumping into anything the faster you become, it feels more like driving a car than a walking girl.
OTher than that I enjoyed it
There were a few awesome moments in the game. I really enjoyed the concept of using light and shadow to show/hide objects. While there were no real scary monster/things, I played the game convinced that I will run into them, which made the pipes/some objects seem extra scary when my flash light scans through them. Another great moment was when the light revealed the footsteps I had (it took me a while to realize that was my footsteps though... I was thinking "WHOS FOLLOWING ME"). I just wished there were more light/hidden puzzles involved. Overall, really enjoyable experience. Nice song and zoom out animation at the end too!
That was great! I love the addition of the blacklight that revealed your footprints, and the final puzzle had me scratching my head for a little bit. The ending was about to scare the pants off of me, and I almost cried when there wasn't a jumpscare. I can't handle horror. You nailed it, guys. You just nailed it.
The atmosphere is really disturbing and surrounding. I like a lot this game ^^
Nice entry! I liked how she would get too scared and run back to the last room that had a light on. It was a bit to dark for me to see where I was going but I guess that is the point. I got lost and dizzy before I finished the game, I bookmarked it to have another go later. Great work!
Scary without jumps scares. Very well done. I don't find the ending satisfying, but that's me and mystery games. In the end of those my questions are always still unanswered.
Nice atmosphere, although I totally missed why the girl ran away scared ("GASP"), because I didn't notice anything myself (maybe there was some monster sound too quiet, so I didn't hear it?). I find the controls unconvenient for 3D game (expected forward, backward, strafe), it would be nice to see more area at once on the screen, and probably some kind of minimap would be useful, because I was completely lost after opening about 5 doors. Also the phrase "the candle is no match for me" sounds like bad English:-)
Wow, the mood of this game is one of the best I have seen on this LD. I loved it. I am not a fan of these "minecraft" graphics, but this was totally different. Great entry!
I enjoyed the great atmosphere. Graphics are nice and sound supports the atmosphere. Congrats, a very interesting, well done game. Did not finish it, but I enjoyed it a lot. And @pschichtel, thanks for the feedback on my game - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/nukeball
Ugh that was such a scary atmosphere, the heartbeats fit so perfectly! It really got me tense during the whole playthrough, didn't want anything to scare me :(
The controls feel a bit floaty, but the camera helps make the game more tense as you can't really see far.
Graphics work, but could use some more details (specially the character) as everything feels too "flat".
(I played the JAM version.)
I like the style of the game and I like the idea. However, as others have mentioned, the camera doesn't let you see some of the doors which is a little infuriating. I assume the little girl gets scared of the dark and that's why she runs back to her room. However, when I got to the room with the key and the unlit candle - I could only spend a few seconds in there before she would gasp and then run back. This became irritating and I didn't play any further. Instead I just watched your play-through. With a little play balancing and some tweaks to the camera this could be very good.
Great job capturing the feel of a scared little kid. First time I've rated a Ludum Dare game 5 stars for mood.
Uff, I didnt vote it until now, I dont know why. I already played it :I
Anyway, you guys did an amazing job here. I love the atmosphere and I anjoyed the exploration of the level. Nice graphics, sounds and music as well.
Just the camera angle was sometimes a bit frustrating. But whatever. Well done :)
I feel atmosphere here. Great music and design. Creepy but nice little game.

~~Great atmosphere, music, models, desi~~
Great game.
Very good atmosphere, good story, great job!
Super cute graphics yet it has a spooky atmosphere, really liked it! Got stuck in a corner once when i walked into a gap sideways and then rotated 90 degrees, other than that it ran great.
Yay, another horror game :) You did a great job on this - the mood and atmosphere were perfect! Graphics were really good, the sounds and music matched perfectly. My only small criticism is the look/move controls felt a little janky. But thats a small thing in an otherwise great game.
Well done.
Wow I am loving the horror element of this game! Also I couldn't make it to the end but I did listen to your song from your blog post - it's the little touches like this that make a game polished. Well done!
Incredible game. The music sets the mood perfectly. The game itself brings me back to my childhood like no other, the dread and fear of the dark, oh! When the girl ran away for the first time I didn't realize why it had triggered and it made the experience even more frightening! Having figured out why my heart starts beating so loudly and that buttons area labeled it was a smooth ride to the end. Maybe even too smooth, as I was no longer afraid.
This is funny and scary at the same time
