Super ! Très énergique ! Rétro à souhait !
Mais j'ai pas encore battu le 1er boss...
@veryeviltomato Sorry! I have literally no idea how that happened (more specifically, how i did not notice) - I had uploaded the EXE instead of including the data folder. I have amended the hosted files to have a ZIP that includes both now. Sorry again.
@james-dunlap Thanks for your feedback. You will not always get a response, that is one of the points of the game - some times, you are just simply out of range. The idea is that your child will not stay in a single spot and will move around if they deem it safe to do so. It really all depends on if you have disturbed....things....and those...things have passed through the right areas. Also, the forest is designed to be intentionally disorienting (the world in general really too).
The one speaker issue - you know, that is probably how i exported the audio. I do like your idea of using positional sound as a potential update, but we finished what we could in the time, and the one speaker issue (since it was not intended to indicate direction) is not game breaking, so i will have to leave it til post-jam.
The opts-outs, i will admit, i am not clear on this, in terms of rules, the sound effects were all made by us but the background music was not, so i was not sure if we OK to stay in. So i will do the fairer thing and just opt us out of sound.
I can guarantee you that the escape pod is fixable. There are a number of references, in the instructions, the panel itself to give you a clue on this.
Thanks again for the feedback, hopefully these comments help and you will give it another go and see if you can complete!
@hampst Thank you for your feedback! :)
We had actually gone for an intentionally simple art style - we had an unexpected drop from the team at the 11th hour, so one of our coders jumped in to take that on, and we wanted something that, if needed, others could easily replicate throughout development.
I absolutely take your points mentioned - During development, we had discussions about a better way to handle the terror encounters, we did want a more interactive process there, but in the end, time bested us. Once you get used to the areas and the exit points, you can escape, but we didnt want to make it TOO easy, we probably erred a little TOO much on the difficult in the end. Good point on the font and readability, something we will keep in mind for next time!
Thanks again.
@meronsoda Yea that is a good point. The instructional side of the game we definitely want improvement on - it ended up being one of the last things we plugged in, so needed to be "quick and dirty". Our vision for it was something more akin to a proper tutorial. Thanks for all your input/feedback.
@ryte2byte Thank you for your feedback! :) Honesty is the best policy on these jams and i completely agree with you on the movement hot-spots. I was super upset that we did not get a chance to make that more intuitive - we all sat down afterwards to chat about the million-and-one ways we could have made that better. The hot-spots on the wires SHOULD be the ends (exposed wire sections).
Thanks again!
Yay, another horror game :) You did a great job on this - the mood and atmosphere were perfect! Graphics were really good, the sounds and music matched perfectly. My only small criticism is the look/move controls felt a little janky. But thats a small thing in an otherwise great game.
Well done.
Great job on your entry. I really enjoyed playing this. I am a big fan of strategy games (and Risk in particular actually!) so it is always nice to see these kinds of entries.
**Things i thought were done well:**
- Tutorial. It is nice to see tutorials in a game, because most do not bother, so congrats on this. - World movement, this worked smoothly and consistently. - The real-time/turn based mesh - reminded me a little of the ATB system in FF7 a little bit, and i enjoy that.
**Things i thought could use improvement:**
- Island interaction felt a little clunky at times, but it worked, and in a 72 hour game jam, how much can we ask for! - The island to world ratio felt like it could have been designed a touch better to make viewing what was going on a bit better - or perhaps a text log to show when things had happened?
Overall, a really great, fun entry, congratulations and keep it up!
This is a superb entry. Genuinely (i seriously mean this) the best game i have played in this Jam so far. The graphics, the sounds, the music, the gameplay - its all there and it feels VERY polished.
Great innovation and use of the theme, you have put together a really great game here and it deserves more ratings than it has. Dont bother with the web version - go straight to download and enjoy!
Really excellent job. Well done.
Beautiful game my friend! The art, the music, the feel - it was really quite perfect. It is a very simple little game but executed well. Would love to see this extended further (i did only play the Jam version for this review - will check out the post-Jam version next).
Great job!
Great job on the entry! I only managed 57% on my first play-through but once i got the hang of it, it was much better. I enjoyed the game, it was an interesting concept and use of the theme - i think you did a great job.
**Things i thought were done well:** General mechanics, enemy spawning, pathing of ants/beetles, ease of play. **Things i thought could use improvement:** Acid attack is difficult to aim/know where to hit and could possibly be an Area-Effect attack (not a big deal though). Looking around felt clunky, which made adjusting the camera to attack close up beetles difficult.
Overall a very good entry - be proud :)
Had a lot of fun playing this. Gave me a feeling of nostalgia of the games i would play as a kid. Arcade classic. As i tend to do - i jumped right into the game to get a feel for its UI, gameplay and intuitiveness before i go and read up a bit about it, as this gives me an idea of how much thought went into certain areas, and of course, being a classic - it was immediately intuitive.
**Things i thought worked well:**
- General gameplay - loved playing, and played a few times over, having a different experience each time, due to my next point. - Difficulty - this seemed to scale well. The disappearance of the safe area gave a sense of emergency and each time i played felt different in difficulty - if you die or let the enemies build up, it can get on top of you quick. - Enemy types - i liked this, the number of different types were perhaps a bit limited but for a game jam, cannot be expecting the world. - Music - Worked well, suitable.
**Things i thought could use improvement:**
- Not sure if it was a bug but on a follow-on play-through, i immediately had the spread-fire ability, didn't really think about it but made the game a whole lot easier in early game.
- Could use more variety on weapons/attacks. But again, for a game jam, a good job still
Overall, a great, fun game. Well done on your entry.
@Chronosv2 Absolutely, its a New Game Plus ;) As you say, not game breaking, and if i was that bothered, i could have just restarted the whole thing - not going to lie, i enjoyed the fact i had it from the start on that run through!
Ok, so - REALLY enjoyed this game :) Great and interesting implementation of the theme, and whilst the mechanics and UI were simple (i see this as a positive by the way), the gameplay was fun and innovative.
**Things i thought worked well:** Fog of War (this was great), ship respawning, pathing, graphics in general and the sponges as bases made me chuckle.
**Things i thought could use improvement:** Sounds levels - I actually liked the soothing tune in the background and the firing/moving noises were suitable but the levels were off in places. Given the short space of time these games are created in, it feels harsh to point out things like this (heaven knows i had similar issues in my own entry), but i like to be constructive. It felt somewhat easy to win BUT this would easily rectified with updates/expansions. The graphic on the firing seemed off - only looked like it was shooting 1 square, but was shooting 2.
All minor things and ultimately, even when noticing these things, i found myself still playing. Very impressed, great first entry into LD, great job guys :)
It is incredible how much fun i had playing this. Like one of the other comments (i do not read other comments until i have played the game to avoid warping my experiences), i was not really sure why the blocks were bouncing off each other at first, but when i realised - it amused me even more and i had even more fun.
I will admit to having a play-through where i just dropped houses from the highest point possible to watch to chaos, and i was smiling the whole time.
The gameplay is simple, the art is simple, the sounds are simple - and this all adds up to a decent and interesting game. Would be interested to see potential future upgrades, such as purchasing upgrades, changing the platform size/shape for different levels etc.
Really great entry, good job.
This is a very very good entry. Bash mechanics worked great - music and effects work very well and i love how grumpy the moon is :D
Took a while to get used to the timing of movement and bashing for dodging etc. but a really fun entry - well polished and great use of the theme.
Well done!
LOUD NOISES!! Hehehe. Had a lot of fun playing this, a simple concept and a simple game, very well executed. Loved the artwork. My only criticisms would be the volume of the sounds - i ended up muting it but i had my own problems with sound in my game so i know the woes! And the speed of general movement felt a bit slow and janky. But those are minor quibbles - for a game jam and the limitations that come with that, this is a great little puzzle game.
Great job!
P.S had an oddball error happen on level 2 where the level spawned and the rabbit pinged off screen. I could hear the noise of moving left and right but could get it to come back on screen. Restarted the game and all was fine, didnt happen again.
Really enjoyed playing this. It has a nice level of difficulty right off the bat and the game was very intuitive and fun to play. I managed to last more waves, the more i played, as you would expect, i wonder how many waves there are!
Music and sound effects fit well and i found the art style very cool. Extra brownie points for using crosshairs - a lot of games seem to neglect this.
If i felt anything could be improved - probably fonts for readability, incidentally something that was an issue in my own game!
Great entry, well done.
Brilliant Entry. You kept it simple and spent time making sure what you had was polished. The result is a fun, addictive little game. Like the music and effects too. General points:
- [+] Very intuitive, controls are nice and simple - [+] Loved the random world generator - it may seem like aesthetic fluff but its a nice touch. - [-] Enemy ships could use distinction, could get a touch crowded at times.
Congratulations on your entry, great job.
This is a really fun little game. Really short but well made, very polished.
The folder mechanic was really well done - added an extra dimension and stopped it being just a generic platformer. I think it could use some music to really make it pop, but the graphics were great and sound effects worked perfectly.
Great job, well done!
Hard to say anything bad about this entry, because there is literally nothing wrong with it - it has a simple premise and executes it incredibly well. The further you get, the more subtle the difference between the potential culprits get and the addition of more people and items, which adds a nice little curve. The music and sounds suit perfectly and the whole game was easy and fun to play!
Great job!
Just to add in - thanks for all the kind comments so far! Really appreciate the feedback.
Really good game. Reminds me of Supermarket Sweep, if it was hosted by a maniac. Really rather fun!
**What i liked:** Customisation was a nice addition, manic fun, music, humour. Always like a leaderboard ;)
**What i liked less:** The controls were somewhat difficult to grasp BUT i do understand the mechanic you were going for here. "Pooling" of computer characters and the amount of times a head-on collision meant MY blood on the floor :(
Overall, great entry, well done!
Really enjoyed this game :) Quite a difficult little game too which is exactly what i like to play. A game with a "simple" requirement and the controls were easy and intuitive.
-**What i liked:** The simplicity, the fun and the difficulty
-**What i liked less:** Perhaps the music/sounds, though this was a problem in our own game too, but i am being picky really.
Overall, great job on your entry, well done.
Interesting little game that fit the theme well of course. I had fun playing this game. As per the previous comment, it could use some polish but that is what these Jams are about - sometimes there just isnt time for polish!
**What i liked:** Simplicity and fun of the game, easy controls, easy to understand.
**What i liked less:** The sounds and music were overbearing a little but you provided the ability to mute those so not a big deal.
Well done on your entry!
@owl-and-jackalope Thanks for your comments - you are absolutely right on the performance issues on the web version, it is the reason i put a warning on the game listing - to be be perfectly honest, we VERY nearly didn't even post the web version because of the performance issues, and i am still considering removing it. thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to check out our entry!
@chaosed0 Thanks so much for playing and your comments, much appreciated. If we had more time, for sure there would have been a lot more cues and clues about where to head. Glad you enjoyed playing though!
Really great little game here. What i really liked about it for a start, was the story element - so many games in Ludum Dare (ours included) forgo any story element, in an attempt to just get a functional game, nothing wrong with that but games like this are a nice treat.
Great Graphics and audio - the controls could be a smidge clunky at times, but a great example of what LD is all about. Well done and congratulations on your entry.
Big Fan of this game. Graphics were tops, the audio was.....amusing. I havent laughed quite so much as i did in that moment you complete the first level to hear "do do do doooooo" hahahahah, loved it! Only criticism (and i hate to call it that), would be the controls but its a MINOR issue and actually, is just a difficulty curve to get around. Great job and congratulations.
I managed 6:03 before ascending. I didnt realise it was going to get to a point where he just started firing at random himself but makes sense when you have maxed power out. Really enjoyed this entry - pretty much a perfect type of entry for a game jam, and a great achievement, well done!
Pros: Simple, Fun, Bug-free, sense of achievement Cons: Maybe more sounds and music, but imo not necessary. Could be slightly faster paced, but it gets going.
Great entry and super job!
Really enjoyed this. Really easy to understand and pick up and a nice little bit of strategy to actually succeed. The music was a touch loud, but its a minor thing in an otherwise super cool little game.
Congrats on your game!
I really enjoyed this one - simple graphics, well executed and great themeing. Took me a beat to get going, but once i did, i was hooked - i like having to figure things out myself!
Great entry, congrats!
Took me a beat to figure out that the resolution was preventing from seeing a couple of important things (like the end turn button!), but once i understood the game - which to be fair, is quite intuitive, this was actually a fun little game. Could it use polish? Sure. Were the graphics basic? Sure - but you made a game, in a few days, and you know what - be proud of that achievement. Well done!
Pros: Made think a little about the combinations ahead of time, liked the variation, fit the theme. Cons: Clunky UI, no sounds.
Great effort!
Enjoyed this game for its simplicity and visual appeal - this feels very polished and a great achievement.
Pros: Super UI, Balanced sounds and music (which is surprisingly rare, sounds usually come last for people), Fun gameplays.
Cons: The replayability is hurt a little by the confines of the game and its repetitiveness but its a minor easy and you kept it simple, which in a jam - is key!
This was a super clean and super well-made little game. I jumped right in without reading any instructions and it was immediately intuitive (something my games massively suffer from), and this for me is a testament to the simplicity of the concept and the skill with which you executed it.
The graphics were very very clean and the gameplay like butter - great entry, great job!
Have to say, this made me laugh the most so far of all the games tested. I GOT TO PET THAT DAWG! :joy:
Great entry, lots of fun, even if a super simple text quest/adventure book/Stanley Parableto the simplest form possible - well done!
